my system

Melissa asked me a question about storing my printed photos before I scrapbook them. My pictures are digital, so I organize them on my computer and back them up on my hard drive. Once I print the pictures I know I'm going to scrapbook, these prints go in the actual scrapbook album that the completed pages go in.

For example, in our chronological albums, I load the album with page protectors and reserve each layout's "spot" with pictures, memorabilia, sketches, journaling notes, even paper I want to use. This all goes into the page protector and it stays there until I put it all together. The completed layout goes right back in those same page protectors.

So what you're seeing there are some Christmas pictures from friends that are waiting to be scrapbooked. Every year I scrapbook several layouts worth of all the pictures we get from loved ones at Christmas time, and this is one of those from last year. I'm reminded that I'd like to finish that layout soon ... like before the next Christmas. Yeah - that's a good goal.

Okay, so the reason I love this system is because I can keep everything organized and together and in order (I love order!), even if all the layouts aren't done. And I can still enjoy the pictures even if they're not yet scrapbooked. The albums that I use for our chronological albums (they're like our on-going family journals and I love chronology for this), are these black albums that I've purchased for years from Pebbles in My Pocket. I love the labels on the spine.

PS - I follow this same system for my theme/NON-chronological albums. These albums are all different colors, fabrics, sizes, and shapes.

Hi Becky,
So glad to see your blog up! :-)
I, too, enjoy sharing the gift of photography with parents of newborns. It's a gift to me to see their reactions. I also enjoy doing the same thing at weddings...NOT as the "official" photographer. I love the kinds of shots you can get when you're not worried about it being a "job."
Are you doing most of your own printing now or just for enlargements? (I'm trying to justify the price of a printer which has quality that I'm satisfied with.) :-)

Becky, it's great to see you've started a blog. I'll definitely add it to my favorites since I've always loved your scrapbook style.

While I've made the leap to become a digital/hybrid scrapbooking most of the time, I love your organizational system and will definitely have to try it for the paper pages I have supplies for but haven't had time to go and scrapbook. :-)

I an article you wrote about your system a few years back and have been organizing that way ever since. I love being able to scrap any page that inspires me but still stay in chronological order. My family can also look at the pictures before their scrapped and they don't see pictures from 2 years ago for the first time when I finally scrap that page. lol

Now if I could get them printed from digital faster I'll be all set.

I like those Albums with the labels. Are they true 12x12?? So many albums are 1/4 inch smaller and I hate having to trim of that little bit of my pages.

Hi Becky,

I'm thrilled to have stumbled across your blog. I was happy to settle in as a lurker but you don't seem to have an rss feed. Is there anyway you can fix that? Blogspot usually just has one...

Thanks for showing your organization system. It makes perfect sense to my highly unorganized mind!

Hi Becky. I just wanted to let you know that I am always drawn to your recipe layouts. You have a layout in the February 2007 issue of CK titled CHOCOLATE. Everytime I flip through that magazine I get a little hungry =) I was wondering if you could share the recipes for the brownies featured on this page. I LOVE brownies. The brownies with the white frosting look so tasty! I can't seem to find them on the internet because I don't know the exact name of brownies. I would REALLY appreciate the recipes and so will my family!! Thanks Becky! YOU ROCK!!!!!
P.S. Could you also share the recipe for your infamous Chicken Noodle Casserole used for the Christmaas Eve dinners? Thanks!!

Hi Becky!

I love that you are taking the time to share your life with us by blog.

I thought I would share my experience with others reading about your organizational system. I once tried inserting the pictures to be scrapped and paper in the page protector that would be their future home. I actually ended up with marks (indentations) where the pictures were being stored. I'm not sure if it was due to the amount of pictures(which really wasn't many) I had, the album, or some other issue. I just wanted others to be aware of this happening.

Becky! So thrilled you're blogging. I always adore seeing what creations you come up with. As with probably most of the scrapbooking world a few years ago, you're the reason I became so addicted to this wonderful hobby. Still to this day, your clean style is my favorite. And after reading about your life in CK, I only wish I lived closer to you so the organization would rub off some me. (I considered myself quite organized until I got married and had a baby ... those two create chaos faster than I can clean up!)HA
Anyway - just wanted to express my thanks for all your inspiration. I just adore the May kit you created from Ali's design. Can't wait to get my own soon!
One quick question if you don't mind: What kind of camera do you use?
Thanks for sharing...

I have copied all the ones out of "Our Family Scrapbooks" and I need more for a couple more Christmas'. :) If you ever get a chance to blog some more of your Christmas years, I would very much love and appreciate that! You have helped me stay caught up!

This is a wonderful idea and one I will be adapting. I currently switched to the Stampin Up 3-ring binders and I can see where this will definitely come in handy. Thank you for the tip!
