sorry, kansas city.

Some of you are planning on attending the CKC in Kansas City this weekend. I was planning on being there too, and I was looking forward to meeting many of you!

However, I will not be there.

Actually, I'm coming to you live from the hospital. Our two-year old daughter, Claire, was hospitalized earlier this week for breathing difficulties/severe croup. Once she was discharged, I was still planning on coming to Kansas City. However, her symptoms worsened and she had to be readmitted. Though we are certain that Claire will be fine, I am so grateful for your support and understanding as I put my role as mother and caregiver first.

Those of you enrolled in one of my classes at the event should have received an e-mail from our events staff, which explains more. We really worked hard to come up with a good solution to the sudden changes. I am grateful for the thought they put into working this out; the team is truly awesome and I know you will enjoy the convention experience. So sorry I can't be there with you.

I'm so sorry Becky! I sooo understand how ugly croup can be. My son had it several times as a toddler and had to be rushed to the ER. Hang in there and little Claire will be in our prayers. :)

Becky,
I am so sorry that Claire is sick. There's nothing worse than a sick child. While I am TOTALLY BUMMED that you are not going to be here in KC this weekend (the weather is cold and rainy - you'll so miss it!), I totally understand that family comes first! Know that you guys are in my prayers. Take care,

It's so wonderful that you made the decision to stay home. I know it's hard to say no to work, but your priorities are in the right place. Everyone will understand, and if someone doesn't, too bad. Your family needs you, and you need to be with them.

My son used to get croup frequently when he was small. It is a very scary thing to hear those noises coming from your baby. God Bless her!
Blessings,
Susan

Our little Whitney just got bronchitis this weekend. It is the scariest feeling as a mom to worry that your child isn't able to breathe! I completely empathize and hope Claire recovers quickly.

Wishing little Claire a complete and speedy recovery. Breathing issues can be so scary, especially when it's you own sweet baby girl. I was scheduled for both the Sketches and backstage party. That said, I will miss meeting you at CKC-KC; but I completely understand the difficult decision you had to make by not attending. You definitely have made the right decision -- your little girl needs you! Family must always be your first priority. If you ever have another chance to come to Kansas City, please do -- us Mid-westerners are big fans and look forward to meeting you some other time. Prayers to you and your family.

Sorry to Hear about Claire! I know how you feel, my son is four and a half and since birth he never had colds, he had croup. It is less severe now, but there is nothing worse than being helpless and seeing your child struggle to breathe! I am so glad that you are able to be with your family. She is in our prayers!

I was sorry to hear that you weren't going to be in Kansas City, but I'm glad that you are by your daughter's side. I have a 16 month old and it was difficult enough leaving her for the weekend and she's healthy! I am sending good thoughts and prayers to your baby girl and your family. Also, it was very generous of you and CK to give us a copy of your book! Hope to take a class with you some other time!

My heart goes out to you and my prayers are with you. Those little ones are tough and end up fine, it's us mommies who worry so much that feel terrible when we finally get through it all! My 3 year old had a bad case of croup and 36 hours later you wouldn't have known he was ever sick! (He's 16 now!) Take care of yourself too mom!

Becky, love your blog...never written to you before, but wanted to tell you my thoughts and prayers are with you. My son had the same thing a few years ago and we spent the night at the hospital with him. /He had been brought there in an ambulance, and it was so scary. Seeing their tiny bodies breathing so hard is hard to watch. Take care of you, and give Claire lots of love. Wishing her a speedy recovery!
