new CK cover & new layout

It's kind of weird NOT doing a video today! : ) Thank you for all your kind comments on my "12 Days of Christmas". I'm so glad that many of you got some good ideas out of it.

NEWS FLASH: Our designers have given CK a whole new look and it's HOT. This is what the January issue looks like, and you subscribers will be receiving your copy soon.

What do you think? I seriously LOVE it. Fresh. Current. Clean. Beautiful. Classic. Total YUM factor. If you go here, CK is going to give sneak peaks inside the new issue as well.

In other news ... I did a layout.

This is for Porter's album that is about his first portrait art (stick people). If the design looks familiar, it's very tightly based on my December sketch in the current issue of CK.

I scanned in a bunch of Porter's art, cropped them to the size I wanted (in Photoshop), and printed these as actual photos, like I would any other photos. Plus, I love having scans of his art so that he can always have them. Who knows what fun things we might do with all those scans of his art when he's older?

So as you're using those sketches (I get the impression many of you do), remember that you can use the same sketch over and over and over again. You can get a lot of mileage out of them.

Thanks for sharing Becky. I am actually working on an album right now for my son. Last year was his first year in preschool. I saved every single thing he did that year. I know, I know, I can't keep doing that for all his years in school. But, I thought it would be fun for his very first year and experience with school. I am making a layout for each month with a pocket where I can slip everything in for that particular month. I like your idea of scanning his pictures. My son loves to draw and I have them in a stack as well. I will have to get on the ball and scan them, so that I can resize them and use them all in a layout.

Thanks so much for the idea!!!! I know I have said this before, but YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!

Have a great week,
Tina

Hi Becky! I was so excited to listen to my voice mail & hear you telling me that I was the winner for Saturday - I just wish I had been here to talk to you myself. You have been such an inspiration to me - I use your layout ideas constantly. I am not artistic at all, but I have been told that my scrapbook pages are beautiful. I have all the books that you have out & keep them on my scrap table at all times. Thanks for helping me preserve my memories so beautifully! I can't wait to get my holiday card kit & all the "free goodies". Thanks so much.

Thanks so much for posting the new cover of CK. I dropped my subscription several years ago because I found I was only looking at your column and just decided it would make more sense to buy your books. I've now added CK to my Christmas list because it looks like CK might be getting a little more "Beckyfied".

Thanks for all the inspiration. Enjoyed your videos, especially seeing your son's album. WRMK faux leather albums are my favorite too!

Question (are u sick of these?):
you said 3-9 months per album; was that just in your family album? Are the kids really going to leave home with dozens of albums?

Thanks for sharing the new CK look---oy, change! No layout on the cover! I am so happy to hear Jessica Sprague will have a regular column though! Can't wait to see it!

Hi Becky

I love the idea of taking pictures of your children's drawings. Always hard to figure out what to do with them!
We have an "Art" scrapbook where my kids draw in every now and then.

Love the look of CK - can't wait to see the inside!

Becky ~
I apologize in advance if this gets posted twice - the internet ate my other comment.
Thanks so much for recording the twelve blog entries - I enjoyed them..
I am currently changing the format of my scrapbooks and love the ideas for organizing my layouts via the post-it notes and word document you showed us. I noticed you said you use C-Line page protectors. Is there a particular reason you chose this brand? Do you use the Memory Book line? I am looking for the best price on-line. Any input about this product line would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! amy

I finally got to see all the videos!!! All at once of course. I liked the longer one where the phone was ringing and the kids were there. It's not as quiet and peaceful at Chez Higgins as your previous videos led us to believe...LOL

I have a question. This is a seriously awesome LO. My own issue is..I like the real thing. The memorabilia. The sketch or brochure or whatever itself. So on here, did you scan and adjust his sketches? Or use the actual ones? Bc they are all so uniform.

It's a big thing right now, scanning. But i like the real thing. Yet designing using the real thing is very difficult. Any insights?

Hi, Becky! I have so enjoyed your video posts---I'm sad our "12 Days of Christmas" are past! Thanks for addressing so many of our questions.

I am writing because I am wondering if you know anything about any shipping delays with your card kits. I placed an order the second day they became available and, as of today, my kits still haven't left the CK warehouse. This is just a little stressful because I want to be able to assemble and address the cards in plenty of time for Christmas... And you know how busy life gets around the holidays. Can you tell us anything about this? Thanks a million!

Hi Becky! I just wanted to thank you for doing 12 Days of Christmas--it was so fun coming home from work and listening to some scrap talk. Also wanted to thank you for sharing some of your recipes. Chicken Pillows are new favorite in our house and my office agrees that Pretzel Hugs are at Halloween are better than any wrapped candy!

I had 2 questions. The first was several months ago I wrote you an email about seeing your mom and dad on the highway near where I live (I live near/work in Loudoun County, VA). I was just a'waving....and my husband looked at me and said, "Jennifer--they DON'T KNOW YOU. You see them in a magazine..." Oh. Yeah...that's right. ha ha ha Second question is, since you are a 2-page scrapbooker, do you ever find the the three rings distracting from a layout where you maybe cut the photo etc? Thanks again, Jenn

Hi Becky - thank you for the great idea on how to preserve your child's art. As the mom of one year old twins, I've already started saving stuff, and my husband will be relieved to see I found an efficient way to save their memories. I'm a first time visitor to your blog, and have written down so many great ideas. Thanks for sharing, this working mom appreciates the tips! Jill

Hi Becky,
I love the new look CK, but I love the fact that there will be 6 more sketches from you even more. Does this mean that there is another sketch book on the way?! I hope that will be a big YES.
I am so glad I got a chance to meet you in Sydney Australia when you came here a few years ago. Any chance of you coming back here? I will miss your videos. Thanks for all your tips and inspirations.

Loved the videos! Thanks so much for taking the time and thanks to your husband and porter for help with the video!

I couldn't believe it when you pulled out your layout 'to do' sheet especially after seeing that you put stickies on blank pages of your albums. But hearing how you describe yourself, it seems so you.

Thanks again for the videos!

Hi Becky

I have thoroughly enjoyed your blog since the beginning but have only just got a google account (mainly to comment here). I loved the videos they were inspiring and funny and I really looked forward to them. Nice to see your family too! Well done to Porter on his efforts as cameraman as well - maybe a future career behind the camera! I don't really have a question but I will comment that when it comes to scrapping products I wish I lived in the US - I live in Sydney and love it but you guys have such a large range and great prices. Anyway thanks for a great blog and by the way my mum is buying the new sketches book for me for Christmas - I can't wait to check it out! Cheers Jane

That new cover is groovy, girly and quite Yummmy. I don't subscribe but it's caught my eye for sure.. good marketing! Your 12 days were something I truly looked forward to. Your my first "Blog" but it inspired me so, I told my hubby (a chef) and he started one of his own. Who know you'd inspire beyond scrappers! Thanks.
I honestly think the scanning of art is my fav tip of the year. We have 5 kids and the paper work that comes home is unreal. Treasures end up not being treasured, simply because of space. I will take your tip and use it-OFTEN!
Thanks for havin fun with the 12 Days.
Merry Christmas!

I was so happy to see that someone else besides me puts sticky notes in her album! I would love to see your to do list template!

Ever since I had my son 16 months ago, I've gotten more & more behind. Now it's getting overwhelming!
So please post that list to help me out!
Thanks so much! Lindsay

Hello,
I just had a quick question. After you scan and scrapbook your sons art pictures do you then get rid of them or what?? I love your blog also, I am sad that I was not able to see the videos. I am still on dial-up, would that be why or am I just REALLY computer challenged??? :)

Loved all your ideas and videos. I am so glad other Mom's have the same kind of camera magnet children that I have! I wanted to share an idea, knowing your creativity you probably already do it but, I scan my kiddos artwork and make note cards as gift sets of to send as thank yous. THere is nothing like children's art. We have done sets by all the kids in classrooms as teacher or princple gifts, for church leaders and neighbors. Always a huge hit! Happy day!

I ordered my 3 nov kits back on the 3rd and it is still telling me that UPS has no info on my order. Have these not left the warehouse yet? Are these shipping? Just getting a little worried as I need to get my cards done and sent out here before too long.

Thanks,

You're an inspiration as always:) Do you ever get tired of hearing that? :D

I want to know how an unknown like me can go about getting published? It seems like a poor scrapper like me (next to NO $$ to spend on the latest products) has little or no chance of getting published. I know that magazines want to showcase the newest products, and the fun new "toys" out there, so am I wasting my time submitting page after page, or are there some tips I can use to better my chances?

I loved hearing your story of how you came into the "business" end of things on SIS. You really are just one of us!
