favorite Christmas decoration
I wanted to share my favorite Christmas decoration this year ... floating ornaments.

We hung the ornaments from the ceiling, directly in-line and above our bar, using little screw eyelets & clear thread (found in the sewing section of any store that carries that stuff). If anyone happens to do this in their home as well, please share a picture. I would really LOVE to see it!

Now, answering a few more of your questions:
[ party invites ]
The program I used for Porter's party invitation (Dec. 3 post) is Adobe Photoshop, and it's the same program I use for all of my photo editing (and other creative things) too.
[ bag toppers ]
Also in reference to the Dec. 3 post ... That's just a simple text box in a Word document (or Pages, for those of you Mac users). The font is called Rockwell.
[ printing cards ]
I was asked about printing my hybrid or digital cards. For ME (everyone does their own thing), I am all about having them printed at Costco. I can upload them at costco.com and pick them up in an hour. Easy. And even though I print most of my pictures in a glossy finish (I like the more "crisp" look), I print my cards & invites & things that will be "handled" with a matte finish. If you wanted them to be thicker, you could certainly print them on thicker cardstock at home or at a local copy shop.
[ canadian site ]
Kay asked if she could share a great site in Canada that sells the albums that I use (Oct. 30 post). Absolutely! Go ahead, Kay, and post it here in these comments so all our Canadian friends can check it out. Thanks!
[ stuffing mix ]
For my chicken noodle casserole (May 21 post), I used the Pepperidge Farm "Herbed Seasons" stuffing mix. I'm sure any other kind would be great, too. That's just my preference.
[ e-mail me ]
And old friend from high school posted a comment because she wanted to contact me regarding an upcoming reunion. (Hi Lesley!) So ... If anyone needs to contact me personally, my e-mail is bhiggins@ckmedia.com. I do read every comment that is posted on my blog, but can't possibly respond to it all. I'm sure you understand. : )
[ the layouts-to-do list! ]
Here you go, girls!! It's SUPER simple. A Excel file to keep track of your layouts-to-do. Because I keep family albums, as well as albums for Porter & Claire, I keep track of all of the layouts I want to do in this one file. That way I can see, at a glance, everything.
layoutstodo.xls
This is how I use the running list: I note which album the layout would go in (my chronological books are numbered) or I put a "P" for Porter, a "C" for Claire. The date is the date of the event, or if it's a thematic/non-chronological type of layout, I put the approximate date of where it seems to fit best (ex - "Fall 2007"). The topic - well, it's just obvious what that is. : )
The next few spaces are where I put an "x" if that part of the layout is done ... photos are printed | the pages are done | the journaling is complete. Sometimes I do a bunch of photoshopping for several layouts and get them all printed, so I mark that box, indicating that I have the pictures ready but I still need to complete the page and write the journaling.
I hope this makes sense. I've been using this system for many years and it totally works for me. It's ever-changing, of course. Whenever I think of a fun topic that I want to scrapbook, I immediately add it to my list so I don't have to try to remember it. And of course I keep all of my "obvious-to-scrapbook" topics here, too (birthdays, trips, etc.).

What a great idea. I'll have to remember this for next year, as I am done decorating this year. And your kitchen looks awesome. Thanks for sharing - I always enjoy reading your blog.
Hi Becky! I totally LOVE the floating ornaments. What a cute idea!!
You're going to laugh at this random question, but...what are those super-cool things in your pantry that are holding your canned goods? That TOTALLY looks like something I NEED!! (And where can I find them?!) Thanks so much for always posting such cool info!
Hi Becky! I LOVE the floating ornaments! You are SO awesome! I am going to do it! The website in Canada that sells your albums is:
www.scrapbookaway.com
It is a small store run by someone who stays at home with her kids, and just wanted to supply people with stuff she can't find at her local stores (and at an awesome price!) I found out that if you are ever looking for anything, you just need to email her, and she will get it at a great price! AND shipping is free if you spend over $200!!!
Where did you get the clipboard for your calendar project? I downloaded it, and am looking for a great clipboard to mount it on!
Thanks for doing what you do, and inspiring me every day!
PS - I LOVE your new book!
OOOPS! Sorry, I also wanted to say I agree with ohio rasmussens comment about seeing Claire's scrapbook! That would be so awesome! Thanks!
Our hanging decorations aren't nearly as elegant as yours, but they're very special. My 13 yo dd makes them and hangs them randomly on the ceiling and I love it. You can check out our snowflakes as http://waldeewee.blogspot.com
The ornaments look fabulous. I also was amazed at all the can rollers in your pantry!
I love the floating ornaments. I started something similar as a room divider and my DH thought I was crazy. After seeing yours he thinks it's cool. ;)

Hi Becky, I was wondering if the 3 pictures in the background of the floating christmas ornaments were photos that you had taken. If so, what are they printed on? I LOVE taking photos when we travel and have been looking for a way to display them in our home. Thanks! On another note, I am planning on attending CKU in Chicago and was so sad to hear that you weren't going to be there. :o( I really LOVE your clean layouts. But I know that the other teachers will be just as great and am really looking forward to attending. :o) Have a great weekend!
Love the floating ornaments - wait, though...my husband would sooo balk at making holes in the ceiling - hmmmm...how could I do this another way?...now you have me thinking. I so want to copy your idea!
I love those floating ornaments too!! That is so cool. My dh would NEVER let me put holes in the ceiling, he barely lets me put holes in the walls! Thanks for sharing with us.
See!! The floating look is better!! My hubby used Christmasy yarn. Still pretty. Next year though mine will be floating ;)
p.s. don't tell my hubby aobut my comment I don't want to hurt his feelings ;)
KAY ~ thanks for the Canadian link!! No waiting for stuff to pass customs, no ridiculous high shipping prices since we are international. I see on the home page is you refer a friend you get a $5 coupon. I will order some stuff in the new year if you want me to name you as my referral just email me and I would be happy to do that for you. beach-baby-123@hotmail.com
Thanks for posting the spreadsheet! I need to start an organizational process that is not on scraps of paper and this looks like the ticket!
I'm a big fan of the floating ornaments. I did that for the past few years. Last year I hung red ornaments of different sizes. The year before I hung pinecones that we found in the neighborhood. I don't have pics though (that was pre-scrapbooking era). Yours looks great! I am digging your red and green pears also.
Becky
When I try opening your file it won't let me saying it's an invalid file. In the past I've had no problem opening one of your files. Any ideas?
By the way love your floating ornaments. I might have to try that next year
Laura
Oh happy day! I've been eager to see your spreadsheet since you mentioned it in your video and it is such a great organizing tool! Makes my "to-do's" seem less overwhelming when I have a list in progress. Thanks, Becky!! You are always passing on great stuff!!
Another question about your Chicken Noodle Casserole. I went back to the original recipe on May 21 and couldn't find what kind/how many noodles you use. I didn't see it listed in the recipe. I can't wait to make this for my family. Thanks!
The floating ornaments are really pretty! Something I could never do, a no no with the hubby and we have a drywall business! Ok this is how organized obsessed I am, I noticed your pantry! Where in the world did you get those great "thingys" to hold all your cans and what nots? My pantry is forever out on my counter/island because I am organizing and reorganizing. I had the girls over last night for game night and that door stayed closed!! Is there a store or website I can visit that you'd recommend for organizational tips and tools?
Thanks so much.
Andrea
Hi Becky, My daughter-in-law is expecting and I tried to explain to her the cute layout you did with the the picture of the same stuffed animal and your baby from birth to twelve months. I know I have it somewhere, but am not sure where. Will you remind me where to find it? dlcc10@yahoo.com
Hello Becky! I posted pictures on my blog of our version of the floating ornaments...
http://www.cutchens.com/joscelyneblog/2007/12/hanging-ornaments.html
Guess what! This is good news for you...I ordered your Sketches book for my husband to give me for Christmas and it said In Stock - then I only got the other book I ordered with a note by yours that it was OUT OF STOCK. I am glad to see it is so popular. I am just crossing my fingers that it will get here for Christmas, but if not the other book will keep me busy until yours gets here! So congrats on your book being so popular!
Oh Becky the ornaments are SO COOL!! LOVE how they look! My husband would have a canary if I even SUGGESTED the idea of putting holes in our ceiling for a SEASONAL decoration! **SIGH** Will have to live the dream through you! LOL!!
Thanks for the "layout-to-do-list"!
Sara
Hi Becky,
I love the look of your floating ornaments. I am going to keep this up, so I can show my hubby when he gets home. I know exactly where I want to put them. :-)
Thanks for all the downloads and tips. Hope you are having a great holiday season!!!

I, too, love your ornaments ... but it is your organization that amazes me! Wow - your album list, your pantry {from the ornaments photo} I'm just amazed that anyone can keep it up! That's so fantastic. Maybe I can learn something from you in the organization area.
OK, so I love the ornaments, too, but along with some other posts, my husband, too, would have a heart attack if I put little holes in the ceiling! But they look so cool!
When are you going to come out with a book on ORGANIZATION?? I would be the first to buy it! There is so much STUFF that comes into the house on a daily basis and I simply don't know what to do with it all!!
Hi Becky,
the hanging ornaments are such a wonderful festive idea!
For those of us whose husbands wont let us put holes in the ceilings 3M Hooks should work great. The little ones are clear and should hold the weight of the ornaments with no problem. You could always remove them at the end of the festive season and reuse them again next year.
Suzanne
Last year I made bead snowflakes (they were in Better Homes and Gardens). I hang them with the clear thread in front of my mirror hanging over my mantle. So it looks like there are twice as many! For those of you who don't want to make holes...I just use push pins and they hold fine. I don't think an ornament would be any heavier than these snowflakes.
Becky,
Thanks for posting your excel spreadsheet. One of my resolutions is to start scraping more and I hope by being a little more organized will help menext year.
By the way, I love the ornament idea.
Thanks,
Ululani
I've been using a basic "layouts to do" list for my girls books, but this is much more detailed, thanks for sharing!
Love the ornaments, my hubby wouldn't like the holes either, I may just have to try it when he is not looking! LOL!
Becky
I am unable to open the form also. Is there any other way to download it?
Thank you so much for posting your 'layouts to do' spreadsheet...I'm going to get so much use out of it!
And I think I'll try the hanging ornament idea...we have a rockin' holiday this Friday and it would look so great!
I love to crochet, and I really taught myself in order to make these crochet snowflake ornaments to go on my tree. I have a photo of my tree on my blog: http://catydid.multiply.com/journal
I also have pictures of each of the snowflakes individually in an online photo album: http://catydid.multiply.com/photos/album/42/My_Projects. Once I have enough snowflakes made, I want to hang them from the ceilings in my house like you did with those ornaments. I think they would look wonderful!
Becky, I have been hanging ornaments like this for a few years. I love the look. You can see pictures of how I did it this year on my blog:
http://ashleyschultz.blogspot.com/2007/12/our-gala-and-other-stuff.html
The pictures are about half way through the post.
Thanks for the link to the excel file. That's a great idea.
Love it Becky!! Thanks so much for the idea. Here's my attempt:

I would just like to say THANKS to Kay for sharing www.scrapbookaway.com I am from Sydney, Australia and havejust placed an order. Eden was amazing. I must have emailed her at least 10 times in the process. The albums and shipping to Australia is MUCH cheaper than purchasing here. As an example I just purchased Becky's book for $70 here. I could have got it in my order being shipped for $30.
Thanks again Kay and also the wondedrful Eden.
Hi
I have a site about decoration. All people writing their comments and sharing their ideas. www.dekorlatif.blogcu.com very interesting site.
