san francisco
That's where I've been this past week. I joined my favorite "techies" (David and my brother, Kevin) for Macworld conference & expo. This is the ad that has saturated the city:

And this is what surrounded me at the conference:

Thousands of Mac fanatics. Mostly guys, as you can imagine. So I was feeling a little out of place in my red sweater and plaid purse.

Or maybe this guy was feeling more out of place than me. Maybe.

Never thought I'd be found at a conference like this. All I have known are scrapbook conventions and CKUs. But you know what? I learned a few things about Macs. Got to play on the new MacBook Air. It's a pretty little machine. Holy cow - can you believe how thin it is?

And I got to see some demonstrations of the features that Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 has. Ultra cool. I'm so getting that.
We had so much fun going here, there, and everywhere in San Francisco. Fascinating city, and we haven't been able to spend this much time there before. Glad we did. And always, ALWAYS glad there are talented artists selling their work. : )

Side note: Some of you have asked where I get my jewelry. Honestly, much of it has come from street vendors in places that we have traveled.
Alrighty. So I'm back in town and have loads (of laundry, e-mails, work) to catch up on. Including many of your questions. I'll get to that. I really will.

Did you get to go to Paper Source? There is one on Fillmore Street and one off of Market (I think). My sister lives in the City and I absolutly love it!
You are so lucky! I'm a definite Mac Girl and would have loved to attend the conference! Yay for you!
That conference is all my husband has been talking about!! How fun!!
So Becky, will you tell us how you proof your photos? Do you use pse or the full blown ps to get your photos to look so great? Please tell us more of the features that you were impressed with pse6. I would love the step by step process that you use to organize your digital photos after you tweak them. Do you use your iphoto features or do you use photoshop to organize too?
Welcome home! I bet your little angels missed you guys!! Glad you had a chance to learn more about the Mac!
About your work space...where did you get the shelf that holds the variety of "floating" pictures.
We just got back from visiting San Francisco too! Of course, we live just an hour away, so it was a nice day filled with walking across the Golden Gate, eating in China Town, and driving through the city. We kept seeing those advertisements too! You are right, they are everywhere! My husband teased that it was me up there dancing with the shadows, and I teased back, saying "I can't believe they caught me dancing in my kitchen again!".
Aw well. maybe it was just funny for us. I posted some pictures of the Golden Gate on my blog. It was a beautiful day!
Love that you blogged this! I'm a new mac convert (got my iMac in November) and I'm anxiously waiting for them to release photoshop elements 6.0. I'm so jazzed that you saw it! I absolutely love this computer (obsessed is the word my husband would use) and I can't wait until I can do absolutely everything on it and never turn my dusty pc on again. Love all your pictures of the convention; they really captured what you saw. Welcome home!!
Oh darn, wish I would've gone. Just got a MacBook for my bday and love it! Easily adaptable from a pc, but look forward to learning some of the amazing features of the Mac. Did you buy a MacBook Air?
sounds like a lot of fun. i think steve jobs is a mad genius. san fran is one of my favorite cities. hoping to get back there soon.
thanks for sharing your experience :)
So fun! We are going to San Francisco too in 2 weekends. It'll be our first time. So excited! Can't wait to go to China town! Dim sum here I come! :o)
MacWorld is an amazing adventure (and SF is the best!), I loved your photo with the "tech" guys. That's my husband, so tech is all over our house.
Thanks for sharing your photos and experience!
Becky,
I'm loving my PSE 6. I bought it after reading so many ways that you use Photoshop both here and in CK, so thanks for the advice there. I would love to see a DVD of you showing how you use the software with your pictures. hint, hint!!!
Totally random question. I know one of things you've mention on your blog is your pasion to organize. I am currently looking to organize my "life" persay and am trying to get input on a good planner. Do you use a paper planner or digital? I need something to keep my family and all of their comings and goings in order.
Yeah PSE 6.0 for Macs! My husband loves Macs and got me converted. It is very cool that you got to go to that convention.
That sounds like a lot of fun! I'm hopefully about to be another Mac convert. I've been reading so much about them and am due for a new laptop...I think I'm going to bite the bullet soon and just do it. I actually blogged about it recently trying to get some more opinions, so any of you readers who have them, I'd love to hear what you have to say! :)
I second the request for info on how you plan your day - do you use an hourly planner, weekly, monthy, etc...I just started working part time and I have two little ones (6 and 3)...a lot to juggle!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
darn I wish I knew you were going to SF beforehand! My niece works at a way hip restaurant on Sutter St called Town Hall. Divine, I tell ya. Divine.
Check out Costco.com for Photoshop Elements 6... Its on sale for $49.99!!! (Not sure if thats the price for the MAC version(?) tho!)
LOVE your blog, even thought I'm not a scrappbooker!!! Your ideas ROCK!

Becky,
This is actually responding to your organizing sketches post b/c I didn't see how to leave a comment on that one.
I have a basic white 3 ring binder. I tear the "Becky's sketch" section out of the magazing and then organize it by the number of picture (similar to your creative sketches vol 1&2). The pages are placed into page protectors and then are placed in the binder accordingly.
It's really easy to organize quickly and is a great reference as well.
Hope that helps!
I'm also commenting on this entry because there does not seem to be an e-mail link anywhere on your site. Would love to share how I organize your sketches.
Funny, I do the same exact thing as tcc...just like your latest sketches book...
i'm brand new to macs..got the mac pro for christmas and was a little bummed to find out that mac only had pse 4 available. did you happen to learn that the 6.0 version is coming soon? i know you're a mac gal, but what version do you currently use? i still find myself going to my pc to edit pictures, but love the mac for everything else!!
Color me green! Been a Mac user since 1988! So glad to see another Mac lover - love the pics too!
My business partner's husband has his own computer company, so she's always the "bright light in the gray" LOL
