a simple valentine

The tradition of exchanging Valentines at school is one of my favorite childhood memories. I loved distributing them in everyone's brown paper sacks and couldn't wait to see all of the ones I received.

I loved the idea of Porter making each individual Valentine (he doesn't have that many classmates in his pre-school class) but I've been fighting a nasty cold for a while, and I'm all about simplifying right now.

So this is what we did. He colored a heart. I took a picture. (His rule was I was only allowed to take ONE picture, so lucky for me I got it in one shot! Sheesh!). Then I spent about two minutes with the image in Photoshop (a simple conversion to black & white and added a little text). And that's it! Printed a bunch and they're ready to go.

So if you need a last-minute Valentine idea, there you go. And Happy Valentines Day on Thursday, everyone!

What a great idea! My son had me do a similar thing so he could star in his own "baseball" card, but I never thought about using the idea for Valentines!

What a sweet picture..and I can't believe that you got that shot right off the bat!! :) How funny is it that they make their own rules..must be their way of controlling at least one thing in their lives right? Very sweet idea..and since I'm battling the sickies around here too...I may need to do this too. :)
Thanks for sharing. Mel :)

Cute Valentine...I'll keep this in mind for next year. Definately! Question for you or ANYONE! I recently saw a layout you had done where you compared Porter's and Claire's births. The pictures were in black and white and is was so cute. I found the pics of my four kids, made them black and white and now I don't know where I saw the layout! Can anyone help me! Becky? Thanks so much!!

Great idea Becky! Your picture turned out great despite being limited to just one shot. (I love that you use the word "Sheesh!" It's one of my favorite words! LOL)

Hi!
I just did a similar idea this past weekend with the new Pampered Chef Cranberry heart dish. I wanted to do some Valentine pictures of my son so, i had him go outside and hold up the heart dish and I started shooting pictures of him. The pictures turned out adorable!
Thank you Becky for getting my creative juices flowing! I have always been inspired by you!

I need some photography classes!!! ha.ha. Great picture--looks so creative. But you're Becky Higgins--we wouldn't expect anything less! I started feeling "ill" last week and so I got a script for a
Z-pak. I waited to see if I was going to start feeling better without it. No way! Had to take it afterall. But much better now. A lot of our patients are coming in saying it's lasted for a month. I don't have time for that! Neither do you! Take care!

I was totally inspired and took advantage of our snow day to make one with my kids. Of course they wanted rainbow colored ones, so ours is not as classy as yours. If you, want you can see what you inspired on my blog at amylynnphotography.blogspot.com.

Thanks for the great tip and it was inexpensive too!

Hey to "Ohio Rassmussens" -- I think I know what "compare & contrast" layout you're talking about b/c by coincidence I was flipping through Becky's Family History Scrapbooking book just last night and noticed it myself! (Well, it's either a coincidence, or I've got WAY too much time on my hands this week.) If we're thinking of the same layout, it's on page 147.

So cute Becky. Love that idea. How do you do that background blurry effect? Is that a camera technique?
I really love that.I'll keep this idea for next year. Happy Valentine's Day to you and to everyone here.

This was quick and easy and I took the pic late in the afternoon when the lighting was perfect. THANKS again for all of your great ideas!!!

I had to laugh about Porter only wanting the ONE shot taken. Very popular saying in my household. Why can't our family have a love of having their photos taken as much as we love taking them?? I always try to sneak a few extra when they are not looking, gives me a natural and relaxed look to.

Hope you feel better Becky, I have also been fighting a bad case of the flu here in Australia and it's averaging 35-39 degrees celsius YUK

I saw this idea in Feb CK, but couldn't convince either of my boys to go along with it. They wanted to do something boyish - enjoy them while they are young and still easy to convince to go along with mom's ideas. I think it is cool, but 1st and 3rd grade boys don't!! Yours turned out adorable! Nice job!

Try it out and let me know what you think.

I just got my KOTM and I'm so excited!! It's great and looks so fun and easy to put together. But my absolute favorite thing are the memobrablia pockets - those are worth their weight in gold. I love just sticking his little papers and things in a pocket where they can be seen, but not feeling like I have to do a layout for stuff like that.

Can't wait to buy another!
