happy may

Happy May to you, devoted blog readers!

Took this photo in 2003 while visiting the beautiful Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island.

You know, those baskets are still hanging from my kitchen ceiling (see my Feb. 27 blog entry or click here) and with Easter well over, I'm not exactly sure what to hang for the next couple of months. I'd send an updated picture of my seasonal hangings if I had any! If you have any ideas, leave a comment.

[ something for the kids ]

It's May 1st, which means a new month and a new kit of the month! Click here to check it out. It's designed specifically with kids in mind and is full of fun projects for them to do over the summer.

[ winners ]

Lisa is super generous and wants to give away TEN of her books to my blog readers, so if you are one of these 10 people, shoot me an e-mail with your mailing address and put "I'm a winner" in the subject line. My e-mail address is bhiggins@ckmedia.com. THANK YOU, Lisa!

[ for the locals ]

For those of you who live in the Phoenix/Mesa area, I wanted to mention something going on this weekend -- a fundraiser for a great cause. Garrett is a great 20-year-old who had a tragic accident last year, leaving him paralyzed. Desert Devils Gymnastics will be hosting a fundraiser for Garrett (who was one of their coaches) on Saturday and all are invited to attend. They're raising money to help pay for the huge expense that we all hope will eventually lead to Garrett walking again. You can read all about Garrett's story here and this link will take you directly to info about the event on May 3rd in Mesa. Best wishes to you, Garrett!

Hi, Becky! :)

The KOTM is really cute!

What to hang...since Memorial Day is coming up and so is 4th of July, grab some Heidi Swapp clear stars (use the largest ones). Then paint them red, white and blue. You could paint stickles glitter paint on both sides so they sparkle. Punch a hole with your Crop-a-Dile and hang.

I'm thinking large flowers although I'm not sure how you would hang them.

Thanks for all the chances to win great books. And thanks to Lisa for giving 10 books to your readers.

I vote for hanging birds like someone suggested. Maybe keep the baskets up if you aren't sick of them and fill them with twigs and nest looking stuff. You could put the birds or butterflies on the outsides of the baskets.

Or you could just hang a picture of me! haha...kidding!

My suggestion for something to hang from your kitchen ceiling is either flags or something else red, white and blue with Memorial Day coming and then Fourth of July. I love all things patriotic so that's probably why I thought of this!

hope you are well becky. just a quick comment - i love entering your competitions, however it always seems that US citizens only win the prizes. as a devoted reader from austrlia (and i know there are others) it would be great if we could be considered for prizes also. just a thought! hope the pregnancy is progressing well....post a pic! love victoria

I love reading your blog! However, I would correct you and let you know Butchart Gardens in the very southern part of Vancouver Island. I live in British Columbia and all the scenery is just as beautiful. :)

For May/June, what about hanging something floral-y from your ceiling? An upside down cluster of gerber daisies or something else fresh and fun. Then in July you can do something with stars or flags or red white and blue.

Another idea for summer (since it's already hot in Phoenix!) is shovels and beach pails. I can't wait to see whatever you choose! (what a great way to get ideas, too!)

hi Becky!

I think large flowers cut from the circuit would be nice. You could use double sided paper or glue two of them together to have contrasting colors on both sides.
Happy May Day!

I was in Hobby Lobby and saw some great red, white, and blue stars. I thought to myself, those would be cool to hang like Becky did. Also, it'd be okay to leave them up from Memorial Day till July 4!

Hi Becky,

How about some small watering cans? I'm thinking the cute, metal kind. You could even paint them shadeds of different Spring colors.

Thanks for all your give aways. I love seeing how high your "comments" go.

Hi Becky,
My vote would be for birds, perhaps acrylic ones that you would embellish, I think your kids would love them! Also, I enjoyed the photo you posted of Butchart Gardens, it sounds like you and your Mom had a great time here in Victoria.

Wow you've gotten some great ideas for your ceiling decoration space. Maybe you should add dragonflies to the list.

That's so cool that Lisa donated 10 books. Congrats to all the winners. I'm hoping to score myself a copy of that amazing looking book. In the mean time I'm reading Photo Freedom & enjoying it & dreaming up the possible ways to make my LOM like Stacy Julian.

Gosh, the scrapbooking industry sure does have a lot of talent in it. School is almost over & I'll be doing the school kit pages with my 2 oldest soon. THanks for the fabulous kit you helped design.

I'm going to say something red, white and blue as well. That way you can leave it up for a few months and enjoy it longer! :)

Also, I never said congrats on your upcoming new addition to the family. Ours baby #3 arrives in 17days and not a minute too soon. :)

I just filled FOUR of the leather albums (you shared on yoru blog a while back) that i'm changing out and I LOVE them. So nice and clean looking. Thanks for the product ideas. :)

I've seen clear balls before like the ornaments. You could pop the tops off and fill them with dried flowers or something and tie some kind of ribbon on the top and then hang them.

If I remember reading your blog correctly, aren't you doing the June KOTM? If you are can we have a sneak peak like right now!!!

How about hanging some ribbons a la a may pole for the month of May? Lots of ribbons in varying widths and colors -- some with swirls, some with pretty ends, etc.

What about hanging gardening tools? You could either buy inexpensive adult ones or buy the cheap plastic kids kind. You could even add butterflies and/or flowers in there with them (as others have suggested). And then as the summer progresses, you can swap out some of the more "garden" items for beach items like sunglasses and plastic buckets (but keep the shovels and rakes). Good luck - can't wait to see what you come up with!
