technology flashback

Well hello there, 15 years ago. Nice to see you.

I came across this picture of me (yes - that is spandex) and I just love the flood of memories that came back of working on that typewriter for so many projects and school papers. And of course we had the beloved dinosaur computer. My ever-devoted-blog-reading brother Kevin will have to chime in with what machine that was.

And of course I'm sitting with my legs folded up, which is exactly the position I am sitting in as I write this now. Some things never change.

But technology sure has. This was before iPods and instant-messaging and digital photography and e-mail and cell phones. Well, I think there were cell phones in the early nineties (?) but I am quite certain we didn't have one yet.

Anyway, just a shout-out to the good 'ol days. When my loungewear consisted of spandex pants and a baggy sweatshirt and a banana clip to hold my hair back. And before I got into scrapbooking. And before I organized my clothes in ROYGBIV order.

There's something to be said about comfy...just glad that we have more choices today. I love looking at old photos and seeing the details that we take forgranted, for example your dinosaur computer. Who would have ever thought about a "laptop" the size of an envelope? Thanks for sharing and bringing back some memories.

ahhhh...the good old days. I found my old typewriter a couple of days ago and the conversation went like this..."My typewriter. Wow!" then to my kids..."this is what I used instead of a computer." My 8 year old daughter says, "what is it?" I explained how it worked and what I did with it. Then my 11 year old son says "It's the keyboard of the computer just with out the screen and other cool stuff!" I guess that just sums it up. Funny stuff. Thanks for sharing.

LOL!! Becky this is a great picture. We totally had one of those MS-DOS computers in our house. Papers on the typewriter for me were done at the library. I can't even remember the last time I've been there now!! UGH! Makes me feel old. I'm only 26!!

Great picture! Thanks for sharing! I remember one of my first PCs had 104 MB on it and we never thought we'd fill up that hard drive! How times have changed...

Oh my! I remember that dinosaur... it was a PC clone 486 33 MHz with a turbo button that would boost it to 66 MHz. I believe it's about 1/3 of the power of my current iPhone. Aren't we lucky for technological advances? :-)

I have to correct my statement above. I ran some calculations, and that computer (in boost mode) is exactly 12.548% the power and speed (and quite possibly capacity!) of my iPhone. Ouch!

Tehehe .. . had to laugh at that. I graduated college in 94 and did all my apps for schools on a typewriter. I was one of a few people my freshman year of college who was sent to school with a "computer". I went with the Commodore 64 and it's word processing program! so funny to think how far we've come in the past 20 years.

Becky, what a great picture! That is such a fun flashback.

I'm having a big problem I hope you can help me with--back in March I pre-ordered 4 of your school kits, for my 4 children. Now it's almost June and they're almost shipping again--and NOW they tell me that I had to order each kit separately, that there was a max of one per order. First of all, I think that's stupid because what if you have more than one child? And then you have to pay shipping again for each kit. Second of all, I didn't see that rule anywhere on your blog (I just checked again) or on Lisa's blog or on the KOTM website or the CK website. I am so sad and disappointed--I really wanted one for each of my children, and would have placed 4 separate orders if I had known. Is there anything you can do to help me out??

Thank you!!!

Banana clips and spandex....I can say for sure that I never went down that route. But I did have a perm and wore my share of neon. ugh.

I did the ROYGBIV thing in my closet this week and I feel so much better now!!!

Ha ha! I just have to laugh because I, too, am sitting in that position right now at the computer and because I, too, organize my clothes in ROYGBIV order! Actually, I organize everything in that order....

So funny--did you have a dot matrix printer, too? The one w/the sides you'd have to tear off b/c they were perforated & had feed holes, and the paper was not separate sheets--just one long roll w/perforated sections like paper towels. That's what I had in college for the 1st few years. Might belong in a museum or something now.
