a few notes for the weekend

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July and I wish to all who celebrate, a wonderful & safe weekend! Share your favorite 4th of July traditions, or what you're doing different this year, in the comments section. I'd love to hear.

Before the long weekend, a few notes:

1. If you haven't checked my Recipes section lately, there are a couple of new ones.

2. Some of you wanted to know what sheet protectors I recommend, that go well with those that I included in the original School Years kit. I love these from C-Line. If anyone knows of a great online resource to buy these, post a comment for others to know about.

3. Some of you have asked about the albums I recommend. Lots of great ones out there, like the 3-ring albums from American Crafts. I personally use the ones from We R Memory Keepers for our family albums and our kids' albums (which contain pages and memorabilia pockets from my school kit). If anyone wants to post a comment about the 3-ring album they recommend, or where online to buy them, go for it.

4. This is what the stamped image (on both sides, since it's double-sided) looks like. It's a cute little caption, really. One allows you to fill in the date (don't forget the circle the day of the month!) and the other one is perfect for stamping on artwork or papers that you want to note the student's name & date. It's so easy to forget who did what and when!

5. The page examples on the KOTM site will not be included in the school expansion pack. But we'll leave them up on the site, so refer to that for ideas. There will be a little pamphlet included in the kit, showing a few of my own examples.

Happy 4th of July! It's hard to believe it is already here. This weekend my family and I are joining some dear friends for a weekend of camping and boating. We will celebrate our freedom on the 4th by being thankful for the sacrifices of so many soldiers fighting overseas.

MN has beautiful weather on tap - it will be a wonderful weekend to celebrate!

I always do 4th of July crafts with my 2 small children and then we make some sort of patriotic dessert. Last year it was red and blue jello with a middle white layer, strawberries and blueberries on top in the pattern of a flag. This year I am making a patriotic trifle. So yummy!! My husband always grills. This year we are having ribeye steaks and baked potatoes. Then we will drive to watch the fireworks. It will be a wonderful family day.

I love the American Craft albums. I personally buy them at hobby lobby, if you're looking for online options maybe try http://www.craftsetc.com/ as that is HL online.

This year our 4th of July plans include traveling to Ohio to see lots of family & friends. Specifically on the 4th we're going to be in the town that I attended college for a huge hot air balloon show. So excited to share this with my 3 year old son.

Hope you get to relax a bit and enjoy the weekend!

You mentioned the C-Line Memory Book sheet protector. I use them myself and found them on line at www.prooffice360.com. They discount off of list and offer additional discounts for return customers. I have been very happy with their service.

Happy 4th of July everyone! We may drive about 45 minutes to see the fireworks at Mt. Rushmore tonight, it's such a spectacular site. If we don't manage to get there, we'll watch it on TV!

Happy 4th of July Weekend! Becky you look beautiful don't worry about being tired...we have all been there.

Albums: I have to say I used a variety of albums...but my most favorite right now is the Pioneer Albums extra large...they are perfect for the School Years Kit. They are also very inexpensive...costing around 13 to 19 for a 12 X 12 D Ring Album.

My new favorite size of Layouts are the 8 1/2 X 11 landscape albums...Becky I hope you create a kit in that size just like CKU in a box.

For the holidays...we are doing a neighborhood block party...not sure how..but we ended up with Ribs and Shrimp to bring.

Hope you and your family have a safe and Happy Holiday

Just want to say a super-special thanks for handling the questions and showing off the packet items. The pages from my kits needed that little extra something, though they are super already. I am SO excited! The stamps look even more cute up close! I can hardly wait. I'm going to be a mommy-stampin' maniac with those I can already tell!

Thanks again...and best wishes with the pregnancy.

Happy 4th Becky! You look lovely as usual. Hang in there. I'm actually making the Chicken and Paasta salad tom. Thank You for sharing the recipes. Thank You also for the video of the kit. I ordered my kit already but I showed the video to my neighbor who's brand new in scrapbooking and LOVED it. She ordered too. I also converted to WRMK 3 ring albums. LOVED IT! Not all albums yet as I have a lot. Just want to share where I get mine. It's cheapest at www.wolfcamera.com. Price for 12 x 12 is 22.79 with no tax and free s/h for orders $100 and above. Thanks for the person from this blog who suggested that. I used the protectors from Hobby Lobby, bought in bulk. Forgot how much it cost, but they're always on sale or offering coupons. Hobby Lobby sells the Am. Craft 3 ring albums. They're always on sale too. I bought couple of them for $10 each. Hope this helps.

I am totally doing something different this year...we are in Banff Canada. My husband 'made club' so he won a trip here for 4 days...the scenery is amazing...mountains everywhere. We are going to white water raft and do a sight see tour around Lake Louise. I also get to meet an online buddy I have 'known' for 9 years! No fireworks this year for us this year but this is fun (and the kids stayed home with grandparents!). Hope you have a great 4th!

Happy 4th of July everyone!!

I just converted all of my albums over to all the same albums. I went with the Making Memories post bound. Got a *great* deal on www.joann.com with free shipping. I *love* the D-ring books but I couldn't afford to get 10+ albums at $20-30 each. Even though the MM are post bound, they're great albums!

Oh, and the C-line page protectors can also be found at www.c-lineproducts.com.

Have a great holiday!!! Thanks for all the tips Becky! Your videos help explain *so* much!!!

Hi Becky,

Just wondering how you will be organizing/storing all of the contents from this kit. Will you be keeping everything together, or organizing everything in different areas based on how your home office is set up? Thanks for your feedback.

Hobby Lobby carries their own brand of 12x12 and 8.5x11 3-ring D-binders that have bigger spines. Thus, they hold more pages than WeRMemory Keepers or American Crafts. They are faux leather and cost $14.99, but you can use their 50% off specials and get them for $7.50! A steal! They come in black, burgundy, and blue.

I LOVE the stamps - can we purchase them separate or are they part of a kit? I always need a way to keep track of the dates and names of who did what art project. If they are part of a kit, which kit?

Thanks!

Can't wait to get my KOTM. The stamp is darling! I love that it is two sided-perfect.

Our favorite 4th of July tradition is spending the whole day with our family(BBQ, sparklers, matching 4th of July t shirts for the boys, watermelon, swimming, & firewroks @ the end of the day). I love the 4th of July.

I use the WE R Memory Keeper albums too! I have used both sizes & love that I can add pages easily.

I hope you & your family had a happy 7 safe 4th of July!

Becky,
Thanks for sharing your album recommendations!

I've had a burning question for a while now, and I'm reminded by the example you showed of Porter's layout with all the small pics ... many of your layouts show how to fit 10 or more pictures on by making them small. How do you print such small sizes without paying $$ for wallet sizes? I don't always want to crop so small, esp. of a close-up. Also, what about the funny bigger sizes, like 6x12"? Is there a developer you use that prints odd sizes, small and large?

TIA,
Hannah
P.S. One of the July 4th traditions I have with my kids is to play patriotic music all day long, downloaded from iTunes!

This year we did service at my parents. We had a BBQ and then helped roof the house, they can not afford to have poeple do it for them so this seemed like the best day. Plus we watched two diffrent fireworks shows from that point

Note to Hannah about smaller pic sizes - I just found out Target has "mini pics" at their photo centers. Look for it when you're getting ready to checkout at the photo kiosk. A friend of mine got 4X6 prints that had 2 2X3 pictures on them. She also thought you could get 4 mini pics done on one 4X6. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm getting ready to. ~wendy

Also for Hannah...If you order Pics from Costco you can order them with a THICK border and this makes the pic about wallet size without losing any of the picture and the cost is the same as a regular 4x6. Hope that helps a little.--Johanna

Hello Becky!
We celebrated the 4th with a pool party in our new pool. All my family came over and it was an excellent way to break in the pool and celebrate all our freedoms. Speaking of our new pool I just purchased a new album to create a "Pool" book to record all our parties and visitors. It is a cute blue American Crafts 8.5 x 11 D-ring album. I can't wait to start recording our new pool memories.

On a different note, I am wondering what is happening with the school kit envelopes that were misprinted. I ordered 2 kits and got 2 preschool envelopes that were misspelled. I did contact the woman you gave us via email and I haven't heard from her. Could you please let me know what step I should take next? Thanks! I hope your 4th of July was "Sparkley"!!!

My 9 year son was born on July 4th so it's a big deal at our house. local parade in the morning, party/swimming in the afternoon, supper of his choice (either cookout or out to eat) fireworks at night.

I too would like to purchase the rubber stamp in the school kit.

Leeza898, thanks for letting me know I can get the WRMK classic leather 3ring for such a great price.

Hannah, Becky answered that question a while back (she answered it for me!!!!). She uses photo editing software to put say 3x3 pic on a 4x6 canvas. It's then printed out at 4x6 size where she will trim it to the 3x3. So if she has two 3x3 squares, she can put two on a 4x6 and since it's printed on 4x6 size, there isn't an additional size for it. Hope that helps.

Amy Dow, Vivian at CK is complining a list of those affected and at this time they don't know exactly when the reprints will be in. (I have had some contact with her which is why I know this). Once they determine their course of action and timing, they will let us all know. SO if you were one of the kits affected, please let Vivian know. Hope this helps!

We had a block party Sat to celebrate the 4th which also felt like a big birthday party for me since my bday was yesterday. Lots of fun, just hanging out with our neighbors, eating great food and letting the kids play. Oh, and a great fireworks display after 10pm!

I love the expansion pack. Since I didn't get the original I was eager to sign up for this one. I have started using the Kodak picture machine at Wal Mart. I love all the different things it can do. It prints the 2 x 3 pics you are talking to, four on a sheet for 28 cents in my area. I wish I had one of those machines in my scrap room. I would so love it!

To Ada,

Regarding the red 12x12 classic leather albums from We R Memory Keepers. I contacted them directly via e-mail to get the scoop and they are on backorder, expected to be in the end of this week. They also said you could place an order at shopwer.com and they will ship them as they come in.
I love them, my daughter loves them since they are her favorite color. Thanks to Becky for sharing her love for these too.

Becky and everyone here,
Is there a website where we can post our School Year's Kit pages (and Expansion Pack)? It would be fun to see everyone's pages and a good source of inspiration for those of us needing it to get started. Maybe we could start a Yahoo group. Anyone interested?

You mentioned in your blog that the expansion kit ideas shown on the KOTM site won't be sent in the pack. For some reason, I can NEVER get any images on the Layout ideas section...are the exp. kit examples shown anywhere else?? I need all the inspiration/help I can get!
Thanks,
