KOTM update

After spending a week in Maryland with my family, I'm back. Every time I go there, I can't believe how pretty it is. Rolling hills, dense trees, and green, green, green. And when you live in the desert, the green looks even greener. We had a great trip. I always enjoy going back to my home town.

And now ... back to life. Porter started Kindergarten today (I know ... seems so early to start the school year!). I don't ever want this kid to outgrow sitting in my lap. I'm just soaking it all in every time he does.

Today's after school snack? He's a big fan of my Andes Mint cookies, so I'm about to get a batch in the oven (with a few extras for his teacher). The recipe can be found in my Recipes section here (May 9).

[ school expansion kit ]

You may have noticed there is a new kit of the month available; this happens the first of each month. This Photo Folders kit looks awesome and I'll fill you in more soon. In the meantime, it looks like this:

In case you're wondering, you CAN still purchase my School Expansion kit. Click on this link to do so. With school back in session, I'm excited to get some layouts done with the stuff in this kit.

[ golden tickets ]

If you haven't heard about the golden ticket thing going on, here's the scoop.

There are a bunch of these golden tickets randomly placed in the kit of the month for this month (August), as well as the upcoming September and October kits. If you receive a golden ticket in a kit that you order, you will win all sorts of prizes like all the latest & hottest CK books and the CKU in a Box kit. Plus, you'll be entered to win the ultimate prize - a trip for 2 to Utah for 3 days, 2 nights. You'll tour the CK office, spend an afternoon with Lisa Bearnson, get a sneak peak of upcoming kits we're working on, meet the editors, and even get all of the 2009 kits of the month for free!

Okay - off to get those cookies in the oven. Later.

My kids start school this Thursday! I also can't believe it is that time already. My youngest will start first grade and is very nervous about being at school all day long.

Thanks for the info about the "golden tickets". I would love to win!

My kids start their sr. and jr. years next week. It goes by so
fast. I remember when they started
Kindergarten, I was just as excited
as them, mainly because they were.
It only seems like 3 or 4 years ago--it really does go by fast.
The golden tickets sound fun. Cathy

It seems that once my daughter started in school the years just flew by, she is now entering her second year of college! Every now and then she will sit on my lap, not to cuddle but to be funny! Enjoy your time. On a different note do you think there will ever be a Kit of the Month that is a Cookbook? I would love to see that!
Love the Golden Ticket idea!

What a sweet photo. Time slips by so quickly. I have a son starting first grade and a son starting middle school! I never wanted summer to end! We just returned from Tennessee. Talk about GREEN! We did some hiking in the mountains....I LOVED it so much, I was sad to leave. Glad you had a good trip.

Becky,
Do you think you'll be able to use one expansion kit between two children. I bought 4 School Years Kits (4 girlies) but only 2 expansion kits. I can't purchase any more but I can't stop thinking about them and that I'll need them later. I'm also so bothered about having only two growth charts - who will get them? :0 ) I know I sound crazy but do you think these will be available again in the future? Do you think the 2 expansion kits will stretch for 2 kiddos?
thanks and I hope you're doing well,
Isabel

Becky,
I just finshed reading the Sept 08 issue of CK and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your column. I read many "scrapbooking" magazines and blogs, and am always very impressed and inspired by the ideas you put forth. My Mother passed away in January very suddenly (she was only 71) and as I read your column it struck me how much I would LOVE something like this about her...a snapshot of her life in her own words. It would be such a treasure, not only for me but for my two young daughters who will not really "know" their Grandma. I never scrap about myself as I guess I have seen it as being presumptuous (who is interested in hearing about the details of my life), but as I read your column I realized that something like that would be a treasure for my children one day. Thank you for inspiring me, and letting me look at it from a different perspective.

On another note, I did order 2 of your school year kits, and the expansion kit, and I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed putting albums together for my girls. My eldest daughter will be entering 4th grade this year, and I had packets of school pics and boxes of report cards, awards, etc of course sitting in drawers. The simplicity of the kit was such a motivator to dig out those pics and put them in an album, along with the great pockets for all the other "stuff". My youngest enters Kindergarten in a few weeks and I have her album all prepped and ready to go...I can't wait to start filling it. Again, I want to say thank you, for creating a product that is so inspiring and functional. I have so many friends that have seen it and are dying to get one for their own children, it's such a shame that they are not always available. I'm sure you could sell TONS of them...even my "non-scrapper" friends say they would start school albums for their kids if they had a kit like that!

Well, my note has become a novel...but I just wanted you to know that your work has really inspired me on many levels, and I do appreciate it.

Thank you!
Stefanie Warren

Becky - loved your article in CK Sep 07. I've downloaded the free kit and I'm working on putting it together. Loved the paper. Reading that it is KI Memories - which papers? Are they a collection? I've searched the web and can't be sure. I would greatly appreciate some additional info...

Thanks,

Becky,

I teach pre-k. I think it is almost always harder on the parents then it is the child to leave them at school for the first time. Hang in there :)

I've had mommies leave in tears and the child is happy and just fine! But, there is always the one who cries so hard they throw up because they are not wanting to leave mommy. That happened my first day back this year. He threw up on me! I was wearing sandles! Today was day 3. It was a much a better day! He didn't get me this time :)

I have a question for you about your process when you are getting ready to start a page. Do you crop/resize your pictures before you come up with a sketch? I have learned how to scrap via you and your articles and this is the last hurdle (I hope) that I need to overcome in order to branch out into my own styles and sketchs. Thank you!!!

Hope everything is ok! Just wanted to let you know that every recipe of yours that I have tried is FABULOUS! Feel free to post as many as you want. ;-) The Andes cookies are our new favorite treat and the Grilled Chicken Bruschetta...let's just say everyone in our ward is now cooking it! Thank you so much!

P.S. Just a thought...have you ever thought about creating digital layout templates? With our four kids (six and under) I am finding it hard to get scrapbooking done anymore...I never thought it would come to this. When I do, I only use your sketches but how cool and how much faster would it be if YOU were able to design digital ones we could plug our pictures into. I NEVER thought I would say that OR go to digital scrapbooking but with no time on my hands, I have to do something!! Just a thought...it's not like you don't have enough on your plate right now or anything! ;-) Good luck with baby number three! We are all missing you!
