the halls are decked

In the spirit of spreading a little holiday cheer, congratulations to Shanon! The winner of Candice's online class is Shanon Gibson of Dornberg, Germany! Shanon, e-mail me and I'll hook you up (bhiggins@ckmedia.com).

Speaking of holiday cheer, my new favorite Christmas decorations are these frames scattered throughout our Christmas tree.

Got them on clearance after Christmas last year, at Pier 1 Imports. I put some favorite pictures in them and just love how it totally adds personality to the tree. You could do this with ANY type of picture frame! Just tie some ribbon or invisible thread or something to the back so you can hang them from tree branches.

The "floating" ornaments above our kitchen bar has changed a little bit this year. Same concept (see Dec. 7, 2007 post) but new ornaments. Again, took advantage of the after-Christmas sales last year and scored awesome deals on these, all from various stores.

Added note: I believe these are called eyelet screws and you can find them at your local hardware store.

We just screwed these into the ceiling, tied a piece of invisible thread to it (found at your local craft or sewing store) and hung the ornaments from there. When I change the "floating ornaments" for each season, I simply snip the thread right at the ornament, leaving the thread in place and then tie the new ornament to that existing thread. Make sense?

I know I have asked questions before and this might be silly....but can we see a picture of the actual "ceiling" spot. Space cadet me I can't picture how you are tacking them into the ceiling and I would LOVE to do this! (even printed pictures to show hubby!)

Love your tree and how it is so color coordinating! But where do you put all of the kids home-made and school-made ornaments? Do you have a separate tree for those?

I was wondering the same as Teresa. My tree looks totally kid like. I keep saying, one day, I'll have an adult tree! I also have trouble keeping the little hands away and off from the ornaments!
Love the floating ornaments idea! So cool! I am gonna do that for sure! I know those little munchkins of mine won't be able to reach "those" ornaments! LOL!

Don't forget to show us how you'll display your christmas cards, unless it's the same as last year, taping them up on the wall.

I got the 12 days of christmas class that Candice is offering. Very cute and neat and simple ideas! Cannot wait to start that. Thanks so much for sharing!

By the way....LOVE my baby kit! It has been a total lifesaver! I cannot believe how quick and simple it is and it looks great to boot! Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the picture of the eyelet screw. Not sure my hubby would let me do that, but I had been wondering how you did that after the post last year. :) I love that teal color ornament. Your decorations are always inspiring. Thank you for sharing!

Instead of eyelets, why not use the 3M hooks? These are clear, come in various sizes and you can remove them without damaging the paint/plaster finish.
Great idea - I am so lifting it.

Hi Becky-
Just wanted to share an idea.
I set aside 2 Christmas cards to go into my kids' school years pockets. I thought it would be neat to run across our xmas card for the year when looking thru their school treasures.

I got my CK mag yesterday and am happy to see there's a new kit coming out. I'm a little concerned about the amount of planning and organization this will take. I'm sure you've got a bunch of hints up your sleeve though - can't wait to hear your thoughts.

I love your idea with the Christmas balls - we stole it this year and have received so many compliments - thank you! We have a door frame around the opening between our living room and kitchen so I just stuck some clear tacks above the frame and looped clear fishing twine around them and attached the balls. The twine will stay with the balls when I take them off. I hope to vary the decorations with the season now too!

Hi Becky,
I just received your Scrapping Essentials DVD in which you mention printing in white on dark text (your display box) in Word. Can you share how you do this? I'd like to print white on some of my layouts and have been unable to achieve this. I know how to print white when I'm surrounding it by dark background, but that's not what I wish to do on my layouts - there I'd like to print white onto dark card stock, w/o background color.

Some of my favorite decorations are frame ornaments--I put my son's photo with santa in one every year.

I also love to take advantage of the after christmas sales.

Thank you so much for showing the picture! Printing it as we speak so I can show my hubby! I have been keeping my eye out for the perfect balls to buy to hang!

I think this calls for a weekend project this weekend!

Thanks,
