photo ideas for today
A quick note: I am still getting asked if there will be a re-order on the Project 365 kits. We still don't know that answer. I promise that as soon as I do know, you guys (my blog readers) will be the first to know.
You will notice that I will be sharing more photo ideas here on my blog. If you're involved in Project 365, perhaps you'll be inspired for one of your daily shots. Even if you're not doing Project 365, you may get ideas for ways to capture your life on "film".
Here's idea #1 for today:

It is what it is. Cereal. Do you eat the same thing for breakfast each morning? Take a picture of it. This is part of your everyday life. How appropriate to include it somewhere in your 365!
Idea #2 for today comes from my friend, Nanci. She was driving down the road and it was such a gorgeous day that it made her think of her trip to Hawaii when she was 17 years old. Great memories. Why not put a photo from that trip and include it in her Project 365? She says, "It would be fun to throw a couple of reminiscent photos and journaling in our 365 if we find ourselves daydreaming of another time and place!" I could not agree with Nanci more. Who says your picture of the day has to be taken that day?

(That's a little flashback to my childhood slumber parties. My grandma made that giant doll for me.) If you have a picture of the "memory" that you think about on a particular day, scan it, print it to size, and include it in your 365 album. If you don't have a picture to accompany the memory, just write whatever you feel like writing about the memory and that can take the place of that day's picture spot.
So how cool is that? Your Project 365 is not only a representation of what happens in your life this year, but also includes some of your reminiscing of past happenings. I love that. Go Nanci.
Do you have a great photo idea that is sure to inspire others? E-mail the photo to me (bhiggins@ckmedia.com) with a brief explanation and I'll share a few of those here on my blog.

Dude. That is one big Raggedy Ann! What a great photo. I forgot to take a photo this past Sunday, so I took a photo of my son's Bible and Catechism book, since he's been working so hard in Sunday School lately! :-)
Thanks for the ideas!
How about photos of the newspaper ... especially with the historical inauguration coming up ... photographing a days headline is a great way to include current events.
Wow! That is why I keep checking this blog...all the great ideas from you and others. I've been doing a "Friday Photo Flashback" on my blog for a while now. Thanks for sharing Nanci's idea. On the occasional Friday I can include my flashback memory/picture in my 365 album.
P.S. Love the Dad's Rootbeer box in the background of your slumber party picture!
I actually thought of the cereal type picture since I took Lisa Cohen's class "Daily Essentials" at Big Picture Scrapbooking last month. I actually haven't taken any inspiring pictures yet, mostly since I'm making the family the focus of my P365.
I'm trying to take at least 2-3 pictures a day which include a person and a place/thing. Last night, I took a picture of the chicken roast we were having for dinner. Tomorrow is suppose to be one of the coldest here in the northeast so I'm going to take a picture of the temp reading as shown at the bank (inside my car!lol! I don't want my camera to break!)
I want both people and things in my photos to add visual interest in my 365 project. I don't want all pictures of people.
I love those slice of life shots like the cereal. I also had my husband take a picture of me and my daughter drinking cocoa and watching American Idol since that started this week.
I also want to be sure to get a picture of the newspaper on Wednesday for the historic inauguartion Tuesday....there are so many wonderful pics to take....I love this project and I love this kit! Thank you!
Oh my goodness! I LOVE the sleepover picture - how cute!! Great photo ideas! I love the idea to snap a pic of the newspapers on Tuesday!!
I got this idea from Shimelle's website: she did a 365 project last year and on the few days that she missed a photo she "faked a day." She made up the photo by taking a picture of an inanimate object that didn't shift places from the day before. I liked the idea. A great way to fill an empty space if I need to, and also a great way to get photos from around the house (or our town) that I might not think to include because they don't include people. :)
Last night, Ami, my neice called to tell me she had picked out her wedding dress for her August wedding yesterday. As we were talking I went online and printed out the photo of the dress that she bought from David's Bridal website. So we both have the same experience/image for yesterday's Project 365 slot. Her wedding gown.
We are having a lot of fun with this.
Like the ideas we're generating! I've taken a few 'foody' pics to break up my layouts. Because I am doing my projct 365 digitally, I'm also playing around with different layout options.
Just started a blog to share my layouts on. Feel free to take a look and let me know what you think so far.

I emailed my picture, which was of my four month old sitting on a scale. Other pictures I've used were of his closet with all of the baby clothes, one of the tv when we watched a movie as a family, and one of the computer -- photo of my blog.
I also used the front page of the album to put one picture of each of us right now (we are a family of three) I think I'll do the same thing at the end of the year to show how we've changed.
Hi Becky -
Thanks for all the wonderful ideas and for sticking with us through all that has happened! I also really like telisj's idea to document this historic freeze we are about to have and may have to steal her idea about photographing the temp reading from inside the car!

I just want to share my joy and excitement here! Today I took a picture of a positive pregnancy test!!!!!!!! I am so thrilled to have another baby. And to be able to chronicle every day of the pregnancy along with the rest of my crazy SAHM life will make this scrapbook so much more treasured. It will be like a combo P365and baby kit! What a day!
Congrats Becky (comment above....not Higgins!) on your pregnancy!! :)
My 2 year old who was supposed to be taking a nap, snagged the Desitin out of her diaper stacker and smeared it on like lotion, all over her face, legs and arms. When I went in to get her after the "nap" I had to bathe her and wash all the blankets in the crib. Snapped a photo of her white smeary body parts while she soaked in the tub. Precious...kind of.
Becky, you are such an inspiration to me and with inspiration from my daughter and husband who are flickr members and part of their 365 project, I have decided to do a 365 on my blog. I am totally caught up and am really loving it. By the way, folks, I was at Archiver's the other day and found two different methods for a project 365. Archiver's has their brand and I think the other was We are Memory Keepers. That's the one I think I am getting. Please visit my blog at www.threadsandscraps.blogspot.com. I even did the rearview mirror shot. That was difficult, but I so enjoy my life....
Is there any chance that the kit could become a purchasable download at all? I wouldn't mind paying to download it, especially the cards and words. I have downloaded the lot you posted here, and would love some more variety.
Maybe give that some thought, as it would be an easy option?
I took a picture at the post office this morning, asking first, of course. They thought I was crazy, but it was a main part of my day! We attended a funeral yesterday and didn't feel it was appropriate to take a picture, so the obituary/program photo will be the photo of our day.
I love all the ideas! I emailed a few pictures - some where
1) pancake batter (with bowl, mixer, pam, and batter box in the backgroud)
2) Freshly baked cookies
3) A board game that we love to play with our friends. (Go settlers of catan!)
4) And of course, the empty toilet paper roll - does anyone else have issues getting the family to refill the roll?!?! Is that too much to ask?! Just kidding!
Keep up all the gread ideas!
Some ideas I have for February, the month of love . . .
* foods we love - a week's worth of our very favorite meals
* places we love - shots of our favorite haunts around town
* things we love - not sure if I want pics of things or things we love doing, probabaly a mix of both
* people we love - neighbors, coworkers, and, of course, family
How perfect that Februrary has exactly 4 weeks!!
Any Canadians out there who have received their 365 order yet? I am waiting on pins and needles...
great ideas,,, thanks it all sound great. thanks ladies.
I just took a photo of the airline water crash on Fox News. I was so surprised at how well and clear it turned out. I am really enjoying this venture. Thanks Becky and all the ladies that reply on this blog, for all the inspiration!!
Nancy
does anyone know where i can get the special page protectors with the 4x6 photos on top and the small ones below. i would really like to buy some//////

*Tops of children's dressers* There was a LOT to talk about on my son's: His--music book (starts violin next week), a German toy (gift from Gma's recent trip), legos (toy he is into these days), a toy shared with his little bro (he's very patient), etc. Super-mini timecapsule. You get the idea.
*Yout family goals for 2009*
(pic of an activity, goal reward charts or other related items)
*Your medicine basket/cabinet*
(I am going to write how ours is unusually empty for this time of year and we are counting our blessings of good health)
Also, you don't have to use an actual picture. Today I went to lunch with my husband at our favorite place. Afterwards I was upset that I hadn't remembered to take a picture of it for today. Instead I went to our local paper and cut out the ad for the restaurant and used that in the place of the picture of the day.
went to ac moore today and saw the pebble inc. page protectors (they call the photo protectors) that are 6 4x6 slots per page. they were 9.99 for package of 25. the bottom two slots could be sewed in half to make 4 smaller slots or you could just glue two journaling block to 4x6 pattterned paer and then slip in. with their 40% off coupons not a bad deal
Becky,
I wanted to thank you for the download of the journaling cards and show you how I was able to use them with my digital 365 Project...

I'm hosting a blog challenge for Sugarplum Paperie regarding recording the memories from each meal of the day. It goes live tomorrow (1/16).
I am glad that you and others are posting your ideas.
I have been taking pictures and waiting for my P365 kit to come. I was sure it was coming because my account had been debited. But when I called today they said I won't be getting it. But no idea how long it will be before I get my money back. It would have been nice to be notified...
This makes me sad, because I live in the boonies, far from scrapbook stores, so now I need to figure something out. At least I can use your cards. :)
And as soon as I get my money back I can look for a new option. :(
Becky, I love your kit idea and I'm sorry it's turned out so badly.
I like the cereal picture and the memory picture idea. I have really enjoyed the project, even though I was not able to get the kit. Everyone has such great ideas. Today I took a picture of my soup, a new recipie.
Hope you get more kits in...If more are made, I'll definitely want one!
I know someone was taking a photo of their banks' temp but another version is to use a screen shot of websites like weatherbug or the weather channel. You don't even have to go out! :) Did mine last night when I couldn't sleep. So for those that don't have to go out you can still get some documentation of your temps outside.
Hi Becky,
I am an American who lives in Hong Kong and have been scrapbooking here for the past 8 years. I am a big fan of yours, particularly your sketches.
I was one of the international people who tried to call to order your 365 kit, but it was 10 p.m. at night and I gave up after 15 minutes. I was thrilled when you gave the files for the journaling cards as I cannot easily get scrapbooking supplies in Hong Kong. I have printed them through the end of March. I have to wait for a few months to get the photo sleeves as you cannot buy them here.
16 days into the project and I am loving it. I am taking photos of people that I would never have done before. I usually give a 1 minute explanation about how I am taking one photo a day of every day life as part of an on-line community and would they mind (and nobody does!).
A few observations:-
1. I am getting more photos of myself. Today's photo is of me and my hairdresser and I know my hair looks great! Photos of me is good because I have too few.
2. I am spending a lot more time downloading my photos and weeding through the bad ones, organizing them, etc. I just can't take one photo.
3. I haven't quite figured out which photos are best left in the 365 album with short journaling and which photos I should do a my usual 12x12 scrapbook page and journal more. Any advise on this would be truly appreciated.
Kindest regards,
Adrienne
I have a question...will you still event scrapbook this year, or just do project 365?
Too funny - My pic 2 days ago was the same cereal, Yogurt Burst Cheerios! They say great minds think alike!
I love reading these comments. You know, since I started this project I am taking very few pictures of people, mostly things. I guess Becky inspired me in a different way to be thankful for the little things in life and that is what I have looked for every day. Today, however, I will be doing people shots....wait and see....very fun.

I have thought through the days of the week where we are scheduled to do the same things every week. I have thought up different ways to capture and present our regularly scheduled events.
For instance, on Tuesdays, we attend a morning Bible Study. One week I took a photo of my son's class. One week it was my open Bible and workbook showing what book of the Bible we are studying. ANother week, it was a pic of a group of us who take the kids to Subway after Bible study. I also go to Weight Watchers on Tuesday afternoons. I will get a pic of my weigh-in one week, my tracker booklet the next, and maybe a plate of a new yummy ww recipe another day. And some Tuesdays, I'm sure something totally random will present itself. Like next Tuesday...I will definitely take a photo of the inauguration on TV.
WEdnesdays, we have violin lessons. I have thought up a few options of violin-related shots for some WEdnesdays, too.
I forgot to take a picture yesterday, but I did get an exciting e-mail yesterday from an old friend whom I haven't seen in years. She found me through Facebook & added me as "Friend" on there. SO, I'm going to take a picture of that e-mail for my picture of the day. :)
Good morning! :) My Jase rolled for the first time yesterday *sniffles* ahhh I really do pray every night that you will bring us lucky ones some good news about the project 365 kits. I just dont understand why there is a ?? about whether it is in the makings or not. I would think yes of course you guys would make a whole lot more due to many of us not being able to get one. I look at your blogs everyday in hope that you will bring us good news. No pressure though *hinthint* HAHA. I have not started taking pictures yet cuz I didnt want to be disappointed with possible bad news if you guys decide not to make some more but I SOOO would love to be a part of the project 365 family and share ideas with you guys. Your products are very reasonably priced. I loveee taking pictures more than anything so I really hope to hear good news soon. Til then stay warm!
We just cleared out some space in the backyard for a garden. My son, who is 3, really wants to plant some seeds and things. Once that gets started, I'm planning on taking a picture once a week so he can see the growth.
Becky,Thanks so much for putting together this kit. It is a lot of fun. Oh how it makes you look at the everyday as precious as it is. Our 2 yr old son died almost a year ago (Jan 31st). I wish I had done something like this when he was still here. I have planned to include a "retro" picture in some of my weeks so that I can include him in the book. I will use pictures of him that were taken during that same time of year. While we are still grieving him and he is on our minds all the time that is certainly something that is part of our days.
Becky my friend Joyce, got a phone call yesterday from Creating Keepsakes telling her that they won't be making any more kits. Please say it ain't so!!! This is just too disappointing. I did get my album and one for a daughter but I am so sad for all those out there that can't get one. I do appreciate your willingness to help and your kindness in giving us the free download.
I emailed a friend who is going to the inauguration next week. He is going to email me a picture that is going to be my Jan. 20 photo.
I love all the photo ideas. One I've been thinking about setting up is this - a still life of a box of tampons, ibuprofen, and lots and lots of chocolate! :) But so far I've been having way too many photos to chose from each day and haven't needed any "fillers" yet.
This isnt an idea for the daily photos but more for those of you who are using the 4x6 pockets. For the title and end pages because they are jsut one side and not a double layout, i have decide to put a photo of myself and one of each of my boys in the frint and then at the end of the year i will do the same and it will show how much or little we have changed over the year. i thought it was a good way of using this space.

Here are a few of mine.
I am a big snowman collector so I spent the week taking pictures of all my snowman. They turned out so cute.
I'm trying to include everyday "life" with mine so I took one of my laundry pile, messy kids rooms, cleaning, dinner, etc.
We have been redoing my daughter's room. Paint and all so I have been taking pictures of the updates. We read to our kids every night so the other night I took a picture of the books we read. And yes I'm not a big fan of being in front of the camera so I'm trying to take a few a me here and there. Love all the ideas that everyone shares. It gives other great ideas to the rest of us.
I love all the ideas you've shared! Here are a few that I've come up with for our family so far.
1. We are having weird weather so I took 5 days last week to document life in below zero temperatures. This week we are above freezing w/rain on top of ice. So I've done pictures of the thermometer and our yard. Talk about extremes!
2. For each family member's birthday...make them the star of that week with picts. showing favorite things and highlighting their personality. :)
3. The various things for our kids' school...sign w/school name, drop off/pick up line, lunch, homework etc.
I've had a lot of fun already and the kids are already looking at the album...repeatedly! :)
I like the idea of adding a special week of photos every now and then. So far my ideas include:
1. What we ate for dinner this week and maybe adding additional pics of me cooking and maybe the groceries.
2. Guest photographer weeks including my husband and my nephew this summer when he stays with us
3. Seven rooms in our house week.
4. Things that drive me nuts week (ie empty toilet paper roll, clothes on my husband's side of the bed, etc). Not sure how I will narrow this down to seven :)
5. To be fair a week of things that drive my husband crazy. Although, not sure how he will come up with seven!! :)
6. Seven days of what we wore to work
7. Spotlight on our immediate families
8. What we got in the mail week
I set a New Year's Resolution to take a photo a day to try to learn my camera better and try to see the beauty around me even when it's not all that nice outside. That was before I even knew about the 365 day project. I was a few days late on the kit. Becky, Thanks so much for the downloads and the wonderful examples! Some photo ideas I've used were: gauge in car that shows temp, gas price sign (one day before it went up 20 cents), picture of my husband on his birthday, laundry piled up on laundry day, blowing snow with cars off road, son building legos, American Idol (picture taken of tv), etc. I've printed the downloads, but I'm still trying to find the right page protectors to start. Unfortunately my only real scrapbook store about 30 miles away flooded in June last year. Any suggestions?? To see more ideas you can check out my blog at www.weloveiowa.blogspot.com
I took a picture of the box cover of the computer program I use for preparing my taxes and all the paper work I need to enter my tax information. That is real life!
