album sale & texture
A thoughtful fellow blog-reader wanted to pass along a shopping tip to those of you who are looking to get some of those albums that I use (mentioned in my last post). RitzCamera.com has them on sale right now and you can click here to take you right to the albums. The ones I use are called "We R Memory Keepers 12x12 Faux Leather 3-Ring Binder". Thanks, Alexx!
Going back to home decor for a minute, I wanted to share a few areas of "texture" in our home. Adding texture can really make a difference. These textured balls sit in a hand-carved wood bowl we picked up in South Africa a few years ago. The balls are from Razmataz, which is a local store here in AZ.

This is a corner on our kitchen counter, and where we store our bread. Picked up this little number (the lid comes off, if you can't tell) at Razmataz as well.

And this is a gathering spot inside the garage door. We don't have a mud room, but we hang a few things on this pretty hook piece (got this so long ago, maybe from World Market? Not sure.). The textured star is from Real Deals.

I got a handful of those stars, in bigger sizes, for the boys' room too. (Crew's crib is tucked to the right; you just can't see it in this picture.) And they were really inexpensive -- $15 for the largest one.

Bedding from Target (not even sure it's available anymore though?)
Wall color is Cloud Burst (490F-5), Behr brand @ The Home Depot
Chairs & ottomans from Creative Leather
Bed from eBay (got it several years ago)
(I know someone's going to ask.) : )

Of course someone would ask :) We do love an inside-scoop on "how someone else does it" don't we? :)
I totally agree that a house needs texture. I have very textured walls, old house with plaster instead of sheetrock. I especially like how the stars are different textures, not just a cluster. So, if it's boys' room....where's the baby's corner? :) -You KNOW we love to see things!
Thank you...this is like a "Tour of Homes" with out leaving the house and paying money.....We should all post pictures...it is a wonderful way of home improvement.
Ok will you come decorate my house...
ahhh if only

Lovely! Thanks for sharing all these neat tidbits from your home. I love the big stars, too. We have one in our kitchen. For the longest time, I picked out little nick-knacky things for the home, but that smaller stuff just seemed to get lost in the shuffle. It took me far too long to realize the larger, bolder and more textured the element is, the better the impact in the room (and less cluttered, too.)
Your taste in decorating is inspiring!
Thanks for sharing all of the links to the beautiful items in your home!!
Thank you for sharing bits and pieces of your home. It's beautiful, and I love getting new ideas. Thank you!!
I love anything and everything you have shared with us Becky. Keep sharing, please. Is there anything you aren't good at? You rock!
Thanks for sharing your decorating ideas. I love the textured balls display. I actually have several, but have always kept the same ones together & just rotate monthly--now I will try mixing them up-love that look. Its just nice to see how other people put things together. Thanks again!
I love the container you have your bread stored in. I will have to keep a lookout for something like that. Thanks for sharing all these bits of your home! I'm off to look at Ritz for albums... :)
Love the looks into your beautiful home. Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great weekend.
Becky - your entire home is so beautiful! Seriously, we all love your amazing scrapbooking style, but hello!!!!! You also have a potential career in interior design! Like you have that extra time right? Kidding...
Your home is so welcoming and I just wanted to say thanks for sharing all the little places that make your home "you"...your personal style is really awesome and its inspiring that we can still care about our homes...even with our 3 kids!!! We have no excuses now!
Have a great day!

THANK YOU for posting about this sale!!! This is the cheapest I've seen these albums since I began purchasing them 2-3 years ago. And the best part was that shipping for 3 was the same as shipping for ONE. I just wish I could afford to stock up on even more. Again - THANKS!!!
Your boy's room is so darn cute! Love the color and your style is so clean and warm. The stars make it. We vacation near one of the Real Deal locations. Going to stop in next time we're close. Thanks for sharing these decorating tips.
I love that paint color. I have been searching and searching for a fun color to paint our loft/toyroom/office (its pretty big) and I just found it. It seems like I am always leaning towards greener colors-like sage or curry, but I really wanted to do something fun that stood out.
Thanks so much for the inspiration.
Thank you for sharing your home - love it all. I tool love the barn stars - I have a giant one in my living room, which is decorated with a patriotic theme.
THANK YOU FELLOW BLOGGER for the album link!!!! I use those albums also and have black and navy and green but need a new one. I had one from scrapbook.com in my cart and ready to go but couldn't bring myself to spend the money yesterday!!!! Now I know why!!!! Great price, thanks Becky, too, for passing it on!
Quick question - why do you prefer 3-ring binders to postbound ones? I'd love your insight! Thanks!
Becky, I've been loving the home-decor tips! I have 3 star-shaped glass votive holders on my bedside table- I love including stars in decorations and love those on the wall.
Side note: Cannot believe how big Claire is!! I remember seeing her at your class at CKU A-Chicago back in March/April 2006 and she was just a baby. Now she is definitely a "little girl," so cute holding her baby brother!
wondering if you would share with us what your table decoration is. I am looking at changing mine and am looking for some ideas.
Thank you
I love it all! Thanks for the links! I need one of those albums since I am using their 4x6 page protectors for the my 365! I love those stars but there isn't a store by me. :(
Since your home decorating is so great I want to ask your opinion, Becky. I want to paint my bedroom a nice color besides tan, cream, etc. The thing is we don't have a set color for our comforter sets, just whatever I like usually! Our curtains are burgundy even though those can be changed. Do you think it really matters that the room is a color that matches the bed clothes?? Thanks!
I love your home decor pictures. I really like your style. Thanks for sharing! :) The kids pic is too cute...Crew looks like he is just hangin' out with the siblings. It reminds me of our kids. Our Jake (6 mos.) loves to be with the older kiddos. :)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Becky, if you can answer, or maybe anyone else who knows. I have only ever used post binder type albums but after using the 3-ring binder for the Project 365 I am finding I like the idea. Could you please tell me about how many pages, on average with normal embellishment thickness, you can get in one of the 12X12 binders. Thanks so much.
Becky: Where did you get that cute purse hanging on your hook near the garage? Super Cute!
Just thought I would let everyone know that I have been doing project 365, but didn't get a kit. I am having a ball because I finally got over my fear of photoshop and my hp printer. I printed the free downloads and they are gorgeous!!! I used some slightly textured neutral colored cardstock. I am going to a crop today and will work on my project. Stay tuned to my blog for what I accomplished. www.threadsandscraps.blogspot.com.
Thank you for all the fun peeks into different areas of your home!
I'm not sure if this little Project 365 tip has been suggested yet or not but I was finding I wasn't getting many pictures of myself. It dawned on me one day when my kids and I were messing around with PhotoBooth on my Mac that was a easy way to get a fun photo! I posted some pics on my blog as well as some pictures of suggestions I've picked up here and the KOTM blog. Have I said I LOVE THIS KIT enough yet!
Love the kids all cuddled up together in the bedroom!
To answer the person who asked about how many pages a WE R Memory KEepers 3 ring album hold, I'd say at least 55-60. For those of you with the Project 265 album, the We R Memory binders are comparable in size. I love them because I am very 'concerned' with making sure my albums are chronological, but my creativity doesn't work that way. I love that I can do whatever layouts inspire me at the moment and back track and fill in pages as necessary.
Oops, I obviously meant Project 365. :)
Thank you so much, Erin, for your answer about the 3-ring albums. I'm gonna give it a try and go right to that website and order one or two. Since I ALWAYS do 2-page spreads I thought maybe they would look better in a postbound album because the pages are almost touching. But you know what - so what if they aren't! A 3-ring binder seems so much easier without having to put in spacers, extra posts, etc. to get them to lie flat, etc. I'm excited. Thanks again Erin.
Sue
Ok, Im going to ask you the question it seems alot of us are wondering. You have so many wonderful scrapbooking books out there, has you ever thought to dabble in the home decor? I personally love your style and would stand in line for 2 days just to buy that book. Please concider it Becky. You have nothing else to do right? :) You rock!
Sue, I know what you mean about wanting the pages to touch, because I also do only two page layouts. I found that the convenience and the amount of pages the 3 ring binder holds to be a fair trade off.
Becky,
In a future blog can you tell us what room in your house is your work space? It seems bigger than a typical office space in most houses, plus from pictures you've show doesn't look 'closed off' from the rest of your house. Was it what a lot of homes today are considering a 'media room'?
Erin
Hi Becky, Just wanted to share my Project 365 layouts and say thanks again for the downloads! You're a lifesaver!! http://heyhoewarren.blogspot.com/2009/02/project-365-heyhoewarren-style.html
Cheers, Lis.
Thanks for the sneak peek into your home Becky...love it...can you come decorate mine??
Question...I love the handbag you have hanging on the hook...I'm going through a brown/green phase right now and that handbag is darling...where is it from?
Tammy
I too scrapbook 12 x 12 2 page layouts and find it way easier to use 3 ring albums. Who cares that the pages don't touch... you can get way more in them and move stuff around alot easier too!
so i broke down & got in touch with my oober-organized side (that somehow got lost in the middle of medical school--go figure) & made a fancy page spreadsheet of my own :)
and although this has NOTHING to do with home decor, it has EVERYTHING to do with scrapbooking :)
thanks for the inspiration...my blog post about the wonders of having a spreadsheet is here: http://dailypieces.blogspot.com/2009/02/when-it-all-comes-together-my-insane.html
thanks again for the inspiration! you rock!
Becky--I hate to ask, but do you have any info on the backordered kits? Customer Service has no idea when they will be shipped.
I emailed Mr. Worner from your previous posting and received a note back that he is no longer employed with CK. It's a bit disappointing that the KOTM blog isn't updated to at least tell us "we're working on it".
Thanks for your help.
Julie
i loooooooooove all those stars in the boys room!!! Looks awesome!
So I really want to get the pattern for that cross stitch angel your momma did but I can't find it on the net.... is the company who designed it called Hand in Heart? I live in Canada (which always makes finding things HARDER!)
Hello, I just have a question that I've not been able to have answered anywhere else. Where has Kim McCary gone? I used to see her work in CK and later SS, but what gives? I always loved her work.
Thank you thank you for the link to the albums - I'd been waiting for a deal as a Canadian and this make s it affordable! I really appreciate it!
Your decor is awesome!
I, too, would love to know what room in your house you turned into your scrapbook/office. We are thinking of building a house and we've already started kicking around ideas as to where to put "my space". I don't want it in the basement b/c I feel I would never use it so am considering part of a sunroom?
Thanks!
Another question: Where did you get the black and white photos developed on the ledge in your office? I have trouble getting crisp, clear black and whites. Are they mounted on a board. Also, is the Project 365 not going to be available again?
Thanks,
Sharon
Hi Becky! Just had a random question for you...a couple times in CK I've seen your daughter playing with the cutest toy. It looks like a turtle with lots of little foam letters. I was wondering if they really do go together (sometimes kids put odd things together) and if so, if there's any way you remember the brand or where you got it. I love any educational toys and think my little girl would love it. Sorry this question is so out of the blue! Thanks.
I also HATE to bring this up with you, but you seem to be the only one who can get answers for us. If you have any information on the backorder status it would be greatly appreciated. Customer Service still says that we will be getting them in February, but also admit that they have not been given any additional information from CK. Obviously, if they haven't been shipped yet February is just a dream. I have emailed Mr. Worner's replacement twice with no response given and people have left many comments on the KOTM blog. Not sure where to turn for answers. I really don't want to wait much longer and if there is no end in sight I will start this project on my own, since I am now all ready 2 months behind on the organizational aspect of it. Which is the whole reason why I wanted the kit, to make it so easy and to keep up as I go so not to become backlogged.....
Beautiful home!--Just wondering is the color in your kitchen Oak Harbor as well?
Hello all! Becky mentioned Real Deals Home Decor, and I just wanted to tell you I have a friend who owns a Real Deals in Tucson, AZ. If you have not been to a Real Deals before, you HAVE to experience it! Beautiful decor at unbelievable prices. You can go to www.realdeals.com to find a location near you!
AN UPDATE OF SORTS>
Hi Julie - Thanks for your email. Since Mr. Worner is no longer with the company, I have taken over his role as fulfillment and customer service manager. First, I apologize that you’ve had to wait so long for your Project 365 Kit. I know the frustrations that many people have experienced regarding the Project 365, and I am doing the best I can to make sure the remaining kits are sent out as soon as possible. There have been many complications with obtaining the Project 365 kit, but we’re very close to a resolution. I have been told that we should be expecting the kits to arrive at our warehouse by Friday. Once we receive the kits, we will immediately ship the kits, charge credit cards, and email confirmations to our customers. Unfortunately, the KOTM team has experienced some difficulties regarding staffing, so they have not had an opportunity to communicate the update yet. I anticipate that they will be posting to the blog by Wednesday at the latest.
Thank you for your continued patience! We truly appreciate it.
Best regards,
Erika Holley
Thank you Jules for posting the update.
I love your home decor!
Hi Becky-
Could you tell me what color your using for Crew's baby album? I'd like to order an one but am having a hard time figuring out which color would look best with the baby kit. Thanks so much!
Thank you, Erika for the update. I am sure this is very frustrating for you as well.
Hi Becky, thanks for your GREAT blog, so COOL. Quick question can we still purchase Jan KOTM??? I live in Australia & was hoping to get one. Thanks Melanie xx
Hi Rhonda...I was able to purchase the Angel cross stitch by emailing Kathi@HeartToHandPatterns.com and filling an order for something else, then she emailed me to confirm and at that point I changed the order to the Angel one. If that sounds confusing or random, then you can call her number (714) 710-9443, and she'll give you those directions herself. Mine arrived and it's so sweet (I'm in Edmonton, Albera!). Good luck!
Hi again, Rhonda, I meant to include the website for the angel pattern: /www.hearttohandpatterns.com/index.aspx?CatId=0
can you post more pictures of your workspace. I'm reorganizing my office and want to see how i can incorporate something new!!
Becky, Please give it to us straight. Are backorders going to filled or not? After reading about CK's money problems on other sites and CK not even paying some of their contributors...I have to wonder. At first I wasn't upset about waiting for a kit..at least I got one, but now we can't get an answer about when they are coming. First it was the first week in Feb, then mid-feb, then Feb 27th. Is it never? I think we customers would just like to know and be done with it.
Thanks for listening...
All- This comment was posted on CK KOTM blog under post from 02.17.09 by "Cristin"...
In case anyone was wondering why there is such a lack of response... here's an answer: http://www.scrapbookupdate.com/scrapnancy/2009/02/trouble-at-ck-media.html
And as far as the management of CK and this website, check out the thread on CK's message board: http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/mb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=267051
Somewhere in that thread, it is addressed that there are very few, if any people, working on this blog. {End Comment}
Erin Lincoln, a talented online editor for CK posted she has not been paid by CK for her work. I hope that is not the case for Becky. I am grateful for the inspiration for Project 365 and will continue with it, with or without the kit. It's an innovative idea and I'm enjoying it. Thanks to those who posted alternative products to do the project and those who posted their layouts.
Hi Becky,
Thanks for sharing a part of your family with us. I am just worried....long time no post. Over a week with not hearing from you is far too long. Please come back... :-)

Hi Becky..I'm a follower of you blog and just LOVE everything you do from scrapbooking to decorating your home! I have a quick question for you. What kind of paint finish do you use in your home? We just moved and i'm in the process of picking out colors and painting.. but I'm just not sure what kind of sheen to go with.. OH the decisions :) Thanks and keep the GREAT stuff coming!
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
