starting off a new week

Answering a few of your questions:

1. Razmataz (where we have purchased some things you see around our house) is a physical store, not a catalog. At least not that I'm aware of. It's a home furnishings chain around Arizona.

2. Several of you are asking about toy organization. Here's how we do it around here. (Keep in mind that what works for one person/family/house doesn't necessarily work for another.) We have an open (i.e. no door) play room off of the main family room. Games are in cupboards somewhere else, because it really bugs me when game pieces get all loose & mixed in with the toys. Books are all kept in this bookcase.

Here's a look at both sides of the play room.

See all those drawers? That's where the toys are. My kids love going through drawers to find random treasures and I soooo don't worry about what goes in what drawer. One less thing to stress about. And when the room is picked up (it's easy for the kids to just throw everything in drawers) ... it looks nice and not quite so toy-infested.

Both the bookcase and the other piece (where we store all the toys) happen to be from Razmataz.

3. I'm still getting questions about my paint color. The neutral paint in our home is called Oak Harbor from Dunn-Edwards and it is the color carried throughout all the main areas in our home. Hallways, kitchen, family room, play room, guest room, master bedroom, dining room. All Oak Harbor, eggshell finish. Just not the powder bath or the kids' bedrooms.

4. The cute homemade purse that you saw in my Feb. 20th post is made by Karlee Fuchs. She makes the most darling bags & purses and is one of the sweetest and most talented people I know. Go browse around her shop.

5. The tool caddy, as seen in my March CK cover story (organizational article) is from Pottery Barn Kids.

6. Where do I do my printing? I'm certain there are a lot of really great online printing services. I just happen to use Costco.com because I usually need my prints fast. So I upload and can pick them up at my local Costco in an hour. As for my black & white prints ... also Costco. The way I get them so "sharp" and "clean" is that I do my own photo editing (with Adobe Photoshop) before I turn the images over to be printed.

Lovely as always. I would need to spruce up for an hour before taking a shot of toys.

I would love to live by Razmataz. Maybe a visit with a truck?

Also, thanks for sharing your home with us. All the photos you display have inspired me to do more of that. What good are my photos doing in a box or more likely on my hard drive. I'm off to do some frame shopping.

Your toy storage tips are coming in right on time. We just found our we are expecting our 3rd, and we only have two bedrooms and the girls already share, so we are thinking that the playroom is going to have to become a bedroom, but that means we need to make my scraproom/office/everything room a toy room now too! So I will have to be super organized in there!

Becky,

I have to tell you that I just love that big picture in the center of Porter jumping over what looks like you and Claire. What an action shot!

Love the picture arrangement too and that you framed some of your children's artwork. Now that's a cool idea!

Your System
Hi Becky,

I too am a stay at home Mom who works from our home office. I often times find it challenging to balance everything - children, work, home keeping, family time; you get the idea. Do you have a system that works for you when balancing all the wonderful choas in your life? Also wondering when you carve out time to work on your personal scrapbooks. Thank you in advance for adding a bit more organization to my day.

Sincerely,
Denise Schulz

Thanks for all the oraganizational tips and cute displays of your home. I look forward to looking at your blog every day, excited for what I might find. Since you are answering questions, I'm just wondering if there might be another sketches book in the future?? I live and breath by your sketches and I am always excited for new ideas. I would so love another one to add to my Becky Higgin's collection. Your talent amazes me, thank you for making my scrap life easier. Also I know I've seen somewhere a layout you did about Porter and the phrases he was saying at the time. I can't seem to find it in all of my magazines...and that was a lot to look through, would you mind sharing where it was that I seen it? Thanks again, I hope your feeling better and can get back to being the amazing mom that you are. I know I don't know you personally, but I do feel a coneection to through scrapbooking and hope that I can meet you someday.

I have a question about your Costco prints. Do you have any problems with Costco cropping some of your prints? I don't know why, but sometimes a few of my prints from there are cropped. I do love their quick turn-around time and the cost of enlargements and wallets are so reasonable!

Becky,

Thank you for your kind and generous spirit - so willing to share on so many different fronts.

I wondered if you could give any advice on doing photo shoots - either with your own kids or family Christmas card photos. I'd love to hear any thoughts you have on setting it up to be successful. Thank you!

So you really just throw all the legos, dress ups and Polly Pockets in together? I would love to do that because it would be a lot quicker but my kids would get frustrated when they wanted to play legos and had to go through every drawer and dig them all out. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant?

Becky thanks for taking the time to answer our questions.

The one question I haven't seen answered yet is how you get your pictures lined up so perfectly in grid style? Like the pictures you posted of your bathroom.

I look forward to your reply to that.

Hi Becky

I just wanted to let you know that I finally received some prompt action regarding the 3 outstanding Baby kits I ordered back in October 2008. I emailed a terrific lady called Stephanie who cancelled the baby kits for me. It's been 5 months now and I am not prepared to wait any longer for them. As an international scrapbooker who lives in Australia I doubt I was going to receive those kits considering the trouble CK media appears to be in at this present time.

Hi Becky!
You are so sweet to open up your personal life to all of your blog friends! I thought of you when I made Easter eggs from yarn the other day b/c they would look great hanging over a counter like you do for the seasons. You may know about these, but you take multi-colored yarn, cut to 36 inch lengths and dip it in glue (just Elmer's or tacky glue) then wrap it haphazardly around a blown up balloon. You can blow it up to whatever size you want. Do as many pieces as you want. Let dry on wax paper overnight then pop the balloons and hang with string. They are so pretty. I did them with my four year old and he loved them. I just thought I would pass it along since you share so much with us!

Becky,
Thank you for being so open about your home and family with your fans. We all just love you so much. Love, love Real Deals! Amy is so nice and helpful at the Peoria, AZ location.

I have been scouring Craigslist, garage and estate sales looking for a hutch to hold my MIL's Milk Glass. I had not even considered Razmataz! I checked them out yesterday and still no luck. Oh well, will keep looking.

I can't tell you how helpful you have been to get me organized. I ran to Costco and bought two of the Cansolidators after this post: http://www.beckyhiggins.com/blog/2007/12/well-that-just-stinks.html
We didn't even have a pantry to put them in. When we finally got a pantry, they just didn't work out for me. But it is OK, hopefully soon someone else will be blessed by them via Craigslist. Here is the link if any of you local readers are interested: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/hsh/1066067496.html

Anyway, Becky thanks again for being our Real Mom martha Stewart!

Hi Becky,
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you for your sketches. I pull them out of my CK magazine every month and put them in a binder, organized by the number of photos in each sketch. Countless times those sketches have helped me move forward on a layout. You have been a tremendous inspiration to me, and have helped me grow so much as a scrapbooker. So thanks for sharing your creativity! I appreciate you everytime I sit down at my scrapbooking table.

Hi Becky,

THANK YOU for sharing some of your quick scrapbooking ideas in the latest issue of CK and including your chart online. LOVE IT! Took a couple of hours to organize some pictures the other day, browse through my stuff that is done, fill out the chart with stuff I want to do to "fill in the blanks" and it all feels much more do-able. Love the chart. Such a simple thing I guess but I wouldn't have thought of that on my own...should have. I am a list maker.

Hi Becky. I don't know if you'll get a chance to read or respond to this, but I thought I'd throw it out there because I'm really stuck... I attended a little enrichment class you did while I was in Cleveland and you were in Shaker Heights and there you said that you got your pictures printed at Costco because they had the best paper and ink you've found... But I just found out the other day that they don't print true digital size. A couple other places do, like Wal Mart, and I take a lot of care to frame my photos, and don't want them cropped... I learned a lot about picture taking from another enrichment you did just for our branch (East Cleveland Branch), so I know you frame your pictures a certain way too... do you crop them all to 4x6 size in PS? How do you get around Costco not printing true digital size? Thanks a lot and thanks for the classes you taught and everything I've learned from you.
