got my SLR back from the shop
Oh, how I've missed it! Couldn't wait to snap some pictures this morning. I didn't have to look very far for a willing subject. : )

In other news, the school year is wrapping up. Porter and all of his classmates have each completed a little scrapbook to keep. Kindergartners learn so much, so fast. Besides the reading & writing skills, I have been amazed with their handwriting improvement.

So each month of the school year, I went in and took pictures of each child involved in some special activity that month. And each month I brought in some cardstock and other supplies and they created a two-page layout with their handwriting, their coloring, and their picture of that month. Here's a look at a few of Porter's layouts.

I had them sign their name on each layout, each month, so that they could see their own improvement in one little project. The best part was just being in the classroom with those kids on a regular basis, and seeing Porter interact with his friends.

My nephew Luke is in Porter's class. I can't wait to see his book. I am sure it will be a treasure to him for years to come.
Adorable scrapbook!! My son is in Kingergarten this year too. I can't believe the school year is almost over. I would love to see more pics of this scrapbook so I can try to re-create it. (or even better a template I can download?) What a special book for your son to keep forever!
what a great idea:)
and what a beautiful boy you have!
You are such an awesome mom! That is great that you did that project with Porter and his class. I love to hear about the tons of ideas you always have.
Your little Crew sure is cute!
If only all of us could have a child in a class with one of Becky Higgin's kids. :)
That is so awesome! You are so creative!
Would you mind sharing the title page & ending page from this book? Also, I would love to see how you put together Porter's (or your daughter's) Kindergarten page from your School Kit. I ordered one for each of my kids!
Thanks.
What a great idea. I bet their mom's love you for that, and know I would.
Your children are going to love you saving all of these memories for them. You are amazing! Thanks for sharing!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! My first baby is headed to Kindergarten in August and I LOVE this idea. (though I may just be brave enough to do it with my own son, not the whole class - you're such a Supermom!)
I adapted an idea from your Family Albums book and took the album that you made for your husband's school years, made all the pages consistent and have spots to add highlights, a school picture and some other details about each year of my kids' school in a littler 8x8 album. I just made his 2 page spread for pre-school and love it. Thanks for all of your inspiration!
ARe you doing a single album for each child for each grade? Are those the we R memory keepers albums or are they mini albums? Thnaks for sharing--love the project?
I am a homeschooler but I totally love this idea. I am going to do it this fall with my own kindergartener. Thanks so much for sharing!
What a great scrapbook! Now that Porter is finishing kindergarten we hope to see what you do with his KOTM school years pages. ;-)
I did the same thing when I taught Kindergarten! It's true. Seeing how fast the develop in Kinder (just wait until 1st grade).
Oh Becky, he is too precious! How do you get any work done?
What a terrific album!
What a fabulous idea, Becky! What a great idea for the kids and their families! I am moving from teaching third grade to kdg. I was wondering these things...what size album did you use? Did you find them somewhere affordable, I will have about 40 kids between two classes but this would be great end of the year gift for each. I love the history of their handwriting, easily shows growth. Thanks for creating and sharing.
You are golden - that is the best idea ever! And take it from one who knows: it is priceless to spend time in your child's classroom, getting to know his buddies. All too soon they will be graduating and it's great to know them well and remember how they were as littles when you see them becoming young adults.
Thank you so much, Becky, for the investment of your time and talents in these precious lives. As an elementary asst. principal, I especially realize the value of your gift to them. Wonderful job!
This really turned out wonderfully! I am a K teacher and have wanted to do something like this, just hard to fit it in sometimes! Any problems with parents who don't want their kids pictures taken? Our parents have to sign a wavier and some refuse. I take as many pictures as I'm able to, but would love to do something more along these lines. You are a great inspiration!
That is an amazing thing you've done for Porter's class! Those kids will cherish that scrapbook forever. Way to go!
That is such a cool idea. I only recently stumbled upon your blog. Love it! I'll be back. Thanks so much for sharing.
What an amazing album for those kids to have! I wish Porter was in my son's class! :)
that is awesome! I volunteer one hour per week in my 3 kids' classes, and I agree, that it is awesome just to be in the classroom with the kids on a regular basis and see what my kid does and with who. thanks for sharing!
This is a very cool idea! Something for me to remember when my daughter is in school!
P.S. I hope that it's ok if I make an extra comment (a plug if you will)... I get lots of points for extra blog comments... I am trying to win this awesome scrapbook desk from The Original Scrap Box. Check out their site www.theoriginalscrapbox.com.

Thank You!
wow, I wish your kids could be in my kids' classes!! What a great idea, I'm sure the parents will treasure these albums.
I taught 5 year olds last year. I regularly took photos of them interacting with each other and doing their schoolwork. The deal was I would only take pictures of them if they looked like they were working!
Their mum's & dad's missed out of 6hours of their kids daily lives so I collected up all the photos at the end of the year to burn onto individual CDs for them to keep. I also created a dblepg CD case size scrap page with their 1st day photo, their self-portrait (scanned & shrunk) and some small pictures from their CD. I also managed to find some time somewhere to interview all the kids and included this too: ie fav colour, what does dad do, if they could change their name what would it be, etc. It was a great gift.
That is such a cute idea!
Great job!
What a great project!!!!!!!!!!
One to treasure!!!!!!!!!!!
This was a great idea. I would also like to know if you got those albums somewhere afordable and if there is a template to download.
What a cool idea! You're a good mom.
You're very amazing Becky... I struggle just to keep up with my regular scrapbooking... I only have two girls! How in the world do you keep up with all the other household stuff... cleaning, organizing, etc... not to mention all the outside things that need to be done this time of year! Man, I hardly get a chance to scrapbook in the spring and summer months, there's always so many other things that need to be done! You are really something!! A real inspiration to all moms in the world! Thanks for that!
That is awesome!!! How did you possibly get all the parents on board with that. The cost of the albums and supplies and photos... Man your good. I tried just to do a 5x7 and 1/2 the parents couldn't be bothered and didn't care. It was so sad!!! But my boy has a great little album anyways. What album did you use??
Oh what a wonderful idea. I will have to wait for grandchildren. I did not start to scrap book until my children were 17 and 21. I did go back and create an ablum of their school years k4-12th. They cherish their books today. I was lucky that I kept everything. I was able to scan the name tags from their cubbies and some of their drawings. Just don't stop when they go to middle school and high school. I noticed that I did not take as many pictures at those ages. Have fun.
Great idea. When my daughter was in SK her teacher presented us with a scrapbook of her entire year. I almost cried, what a life time treasure to hold on to. Life goes by way too quickly!! Thanks for sharing Becky!
So glad to see your camera back in action! Can you tell me what you used as a background in the photo?
Thanks!
Monica
Becky, What a great idea. I have wondered, as a senior, how I might be involved with the children in our local school. This is a perfect way to share both my knowledge and supplies. Thank you.
Wow...I wish my kids went to the same school as yours...what an awesome thing you did for his classroom.
LOVE the album idea! Thanks for sharing Becky!
