Project 365 inspiration
Those of you who stay in touch with my blog once in a while know that I'll occasionally post some pictures from our family's Project 365. A picture a day. Sometimes it's a picture of the highlight of the day or a funny happening of the day. Sometimes it's something not so funny at all. And sometimes, it's really little. But I like to mix in the little stuff with the big stuff. For me, it's about trying the capture the whole essence of our family's existence. I try to get a variety of shots like that.
So here are a couple of the "little things" from just this week: Like the tomatoes we pulled from our own little garden. I journaled about how delicious they taste and how I've been eating a tomato sandwich every single day this week for lunch. A childhood favorite. Mmm. I think I need to photograph a tomato sandwich next time.

And I just hit the big semi-annual sale at Bath & Body, which is when I stock up on our favorite hand soaps. Just snapped the picture after I loaded them all in a bathroom closet for storage.

Soap. Little stuff. And it's a part of our life.
I try to get a variety of angles with my pictures. Like standing above the tomato bowl. Or getting down on the floor when I photograph the kids. (Crew is totally Mr. Army-crawl Baby now!)

I also aim for a balance of both close-up shots (such as the first 2 photos above) as well as shots that I don't zoom in at all. Like this. Because I had my point & shoot really accessible in my bag, I was able to easily grab it to take this wide-angle shot at the airport last week:

I love that I can see Porter being a trooper and taking a piece of luggage under his wing ... and how David (a.k.a. the best dad ever) was kind enough to put a very tired little 3-year-old on his shoulders while hauling some luggage.
And don't forget to make the effort to get out from behind the camera once in a while! Let someone else take the picture ...

Or give your arm a good stretch and take a good-ol'-fashioned self portrait. I did this one day while snuggling in the grass with Claire (we were waiting for Porter to finish a lesson).

I'm telling you ... it pays to have a little point & shoot handy at all times.
Anyway, hope this gets you thinking a little more about the pictures you're taking (whether or not you're doing Project 365).
PS - A few of you wanted to get in touch with my parents. If you are in Finland, e-mail me (bhiggins@ckmedia.com) and I'll put you in touch with them.

you continue to inspire me. loves!
I hope the sale isn't over at Bath & Body works!! That's the only hand soap I use in the bathrooms and kitchen! Headin' to the mall tomorrow...
i HEART tomato sandwiches!!! just thought i'd put that out there ;) Your basket reminds me of summer at my parents when we'd take in three of those baskets a week from their garden! :)
Hi Becky...
Wondering if you have something to inspire us with for Father's Day. A gift from the kids, a tribute of some sort, or a recipe?
Thanks for continuing to motivate our creative girl in all of us!
Denise
WHAT??? I can't believe you have that many tomatoes already. I am so jealous. I am not exaggerating when I say that tomatoes are my most favorite thing in the WHOLE WORLD!!! My tomato plants just have little tiny green tomatoes on them and I can't wait for them to grow bigger and turn green. I am green with envy that you are eating tomato sandwiches! I can't wait until my tomatoes are ready for that! YUM-O!
Hi all, This is my first time to post but I wanted to share what I have been doing with my picture of the day. I recently had surgery and I will be confined to bed for at least 3 weeks. I was worried about how I could keep up with the pictures since I knew my hubby would never do it. My first night at home my daughter came sneeking in with my camera and caught a picture of me in bed with my huge heavy cast. At first I wasn't too pleased but she left the camera with me. Since then I have been busy documenting my new view of home. I have pictures looking out my window, my dog laying by my bed, what I am watching on TV and even the ceiling. It has given me something fun to do each day and reminded me that this project is about our life this year so even if it isn't what I would like, it is life and an important part of our year. Thanks for keeping us informed and inspired.
Great ideas, as always. I finally got my first SLR yesterday and my husband's trying to convince me to put the point and shoot on ebay. I'm now going to hold my ground...I can't carry around the big camera and capture the little moments! Thanks for the reminder.
Great pics! I just went back and watched your Christmas videos from 2007! WHAT FUN!
soapymom- I love taking pictures of what I am watching on TV. I recently got cable after not having it for YEARS. I am obsessed with HGTV so all my photos for like 4 days straight were of shows I watched on TV because other than work and sleep I was watching a lot of HGTV. It was a true snapshot of what I was doing!
Great photos and thanks for the tips!
Have we told you lately how you absolutely ROCK! Thanks for the occassional reminder of what p365 is all about and that it's okay to just have the little things in your photos. :)
Have a great weekend!
I was just thinking last night about how we're almost halfway through P365 (and 2009, of course)!
I let myself get 3 weeks behind - getting pix printed & put into the album only; I've still been photographing and journaling - and it took me quite a while to choose my pix, upload them, edit them, etc. so I will NOT be getting behind again! ;->
'Just wanted to add a little HURRAY for those who have kept up - even a little!! - with this project. To those who have not, don't stop! A P103 is better than no Project, KWIM? Your family will cherish whatever it is that you are able to find the time & inspiration to put together.
That's what I think about every time that I work on my P365. I get a little giddy thinking how tickled my family will be one day, knowing that I took time out of every day to document our lives for the year.
Oh - and I will DEFINITELY be doing this again next year! :-)
Thanks for the guidance & tips, Becky!!
Melissa
Becky,
Tomatoes are one of my favorite foods too. Love them.
Thanks for the photo tips and ideas. I've gotten behind some on the photos and journaling, but will be catching up this week while on vacation. If I don't have a photo for a particular day I've been doing a little 4x6 layout with a quote. I'm loving this project. Thanks again for all the inspiration.
Will project 365 be available next year? I fall into the category of 'I thought my order was complete the day it went on sale, and there wasn't any record of my order'. I wished they would have made it available this year, but patiently waiting and hoping to purchase a kit next year.
I just ran upstairs and took a picture of the wall of my tween's bedroom - a Tinkerbell poster next to the New Moon movie poster.
I have numerous cameras, but about 3 months ago I bought a small Sony Cyber-Shot point and shoot, that is smaller than a deck of cards but not the tiny little cameras. Good zoom. It is always in my purse, hardly takes up room and I have used that more in that last few months than I would have guessed. I love that it is always ready, it takes awesome pictures, and was less than $160. So handy to be able to take a picture whenever. Love the point and shoot.
Becky - you are such a doll! I LOVE your hair - did you cut it a little shorter? If you get a minute, could you post a face front shot? I would love to bring it to my hairdresser! Thanks for the inspiration! Do you have any cute ideas for teacher gifts? Two weeks left for school! Thanks!
Oh and I just got a 20% off coupon too for Bath and body :) thanks for the inspiration... love it! and please keep it coming!

here is the link if anybody is interested in the 20% of $25 or more at Bath and Body ;) sale goes til sunday!
I am also keeping up with the project and loving it. My little one is only nine months old and it's amazing to see how much he's changed just since January. I know CK plans way ahead, and I'd just like to mention that I would absolutely buy the kit again if it is available next year. I wouldn't even mind if it was exactly the same colors and designs.
Thanks for sharing your picture ideas! I'm loving the Project 365 concept! Are there any plans for another version of it for next year? I'd love to do another one for our family and one for a baby we're expecting in November. It might be a bit more of a realistic way to scrapbook another baby's first year. Crossing my fingers for Project 365 to come out with a new version!
Is it possible to purchase the 365 kit anymore and where? Love it Love it Love it! Must have more!

Wondeful pictures! I'm inspired.
I started my 365 May 1st... my birthday is in May, so I thought it would be interesting (and not the norm) to document one birthday to the next one day at a time.
It has been really eye-opening to see the progress and patterns in my documenting... even just in one month. :)
I am thankful for my iPhone camera. It has saved me from trying to always get perfection in all photos instead of simply capturing the moment, as it is, in time. Shutterfly even has an iPhone app to easily upload photos right from your camera to get printed! They print great at 4x6... I was pleasantly surprised. It compliments my DSLR and gives it some variety with candids, too.
Thanks for sharing your photos, and thoughts (and for making the 365 kit to get us motivated). Love it.
I am just loving P-365 and am actually keeping up with it! Woo Hoo! I love all your ideas with the pictures and thanks for inspiring us. Will you be continuing this for next year?
thanks so much for sharing some of your P365 with the rest of us! you continue to inspire...& yes, I am loving this project right along with you! I'm a BIT behind on my album...but my journal & photos are ready...when I get a little free time ;0)
Totally off topic, but didn't you post somewhere the websites you used to do Crew's baby book for how much a stamp cost, popular songs, etc? I can't find it anywhere and am beginning to think I dreamed it. If you did post some websites to fill in those little cards in the baby kit, could you repost or point me to where they are. Thanks and I love all the inspiration you provide us.
Michele
thank you so much for your continued tips for project 365. i have a question for becky or anyone else that has suggestions: for those of us that were not able to get the kit, any ideas for monthly separators? thanks.

hi i came across your blog today when I saw a link to one of your craft posts in another blog. (forget which one, I've been following craft links all day!) and it looks like you have a great blog! I've put it on my reader and don't be surprise if I borrow an idea or two. thank you so much. :)
Hey Becky... love your idea of taking a picture everyday. hope you guys are well! Jodi (Bacorn)
Thanks for sharing all your ideas. I know you're a MAC user. I recently got one and am learning tips and tricks. What software do you use to be able to add text over your pictures?
Becky, can you shed some light on what's going on with the KOTM? There are alot of frustrated ladies out there, myself included. Cannot believe the comminication from Creating Keepsakes continues to be poor. Customer Service doesn't know anything, the blog is not updated, the kits are not offered on a monthly basis anymore, in fact, there's nothing coming out of them! It's so frustrating...Please help. Thanks.
I love my 365 project and everyone I show it too wants to do it too. When are they going to have more for sale? Since it's so popular you would think CK would make more. Do you know if they are ever going to be for sale again?? Please help your fans...we are addicted to 365 :)
