text on photos

I often add text to my pictures in Photoshop before printing. A couple of recent examples:

Adding text in Photoshop is really simple. I'll show you what it looks like in my CS version. Not sure if it will be much different with the other versions of Photoshop, but if it is, I'm sure some of you will comment and share your own tips. : )

1. Open up your picture. Look down the left column in Photoshop.

2. Find the "T" icon (for Text). Select that.

3. Click anywhere on your picture. Start typing. There's your text! At the top of Photoshop, you'll see where you can change your font, size, color, and all that good stuff. Simply highlight your text (or the section of text you want to tweak) and make the changes. Add text in several places on your picture by clicking in a new spot and typing more.

Give it a try!

I'm new to photoshop, but I love the idea of adding text to the photo. Once that's done, can you still print them at Costco or other photo printing places?

Yes you can still print them at any photo printing place just make sure you save it as a JPEG not the photoshop version, because the file will be too big to upload.
i hope that helped!

PS. Becky i love the summer photo!!

I write the date (and usually something about the photo) on all my photos for my 365 project - I use Picnik.com. I find it very user friendly and it's free!! You can upgrade to a premier account for like $25/year. I love it!!

Darling pictures! They also have a really easy way to add text on Picasa-- a free photo editing, storing, and sharing site. Just thought I'd share for folks who don't have photoshop :)

BLESS YOU for this explanation. I've been lost in Photoshop and am so excited for Jessica Sprague's free class you announced this week. But step-by-step instructions like this are SO helpful in the short-term!!!

Hi Becky,

I just wanted to say thankyou so much for sharing your idea around the 365 project. I am up to date with all of my photos and journaling and I am absolutely loving the project. I have captured and journaled so many memories and moment and snapshots of our life I otherwise would not have bothered with. I will treasure this album and hope that you will be doing another kit next year so we can all participate in the project again next year.

Thankyou so much for your constant inspiration and encouragement throughout the year your ideas have helped to keep me on track.

WHO KNEW IT WAS THAT EASY?! I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT ADDING TEXT TO PICTURES A FEW TIMES, BUT ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WOULD BE TOO TIME-CONSUMING TO LEARN HOW! THANK YOU!

I do tons of this, too. Some folks might enjoy the "365" link on my blog that shows all my photos and lots of Word Art. Thanks for sharing this, Becky!

Becky-
Sometime I would love to know how you go about editing your pictures. I know that it varies by picture, but after years of seeing your family pictures I have always loved the coloring on them. Do you work on saturation, lighting, etc? I have elements so I know it is different but I am never sure of what to start editing first.

Anyway, I love all your 365 ideas...please keep sharing them. It helps to always see new ideas from people! I would love to see a couple LAYOUTS of your 365 pages done to see how it all looks together if you get a chance! Thank you! Your family is so cute!

Another thing that is really fun to do if you miss a day (or even if you don't) is to use a screen shot from your computer. This was my photo of the day for yesterday:

What a simple technique. I already know the perfect way to use this technique. As always, thanks for the great tip.
And by the way, after seeing your post with your color-coded family albums, I decided to do the same thing. What a great idea! I just recently started transitioning over my albums to the same albums you have and I'm thrilled. The quality of the albums is excellent...far better than I imagined.
Love the dance recital pics. :)

Just came by to say thanks for all your inspiration and ideas on project 365, I'm loving it, and love your sketches in CK too. I've just used the latest August issue sketch for my last week's 365 layout for our trip. It turned out wonderfully! You can see it on my blog here: simplyyin.blogspot.com

Thank you again!

Hi Becky --
Unrelated to this post but ....

I'm getting serious about switching a few of my done albums to the We R Memory Keepers and carrying on from there ...
I've seen the photos of yours all lined up .... but do you think you could clarify what color blue is Crew's and if your family albums are the "Real Red" ... seems to be a color discrepancy between your photos and the ones shown on their site. It's hard to tell what's the true color on their site.
Would just like to clarify that before I order what I think is the color I'm seeing .... :) .... thanks!

I tried adding text with Photoshop for my grandson's birth announcement and it ended up with a sawtooth edge on the letters. What did I do wrong?

I had to laugh when I saw that dance recital picture. My daughter wore the exact same costume a couple years ago for her recital. I thought was cute, but the tule around the face was incredibly bothersome!
