ode to plastic costumes

The cooler temperatures are putting me in a GREAT mood. I love this time of year. Just wanted to share a blast from the past.

Those 5 boys are my brothers and the plastic princess in the middle -- that would be me. I can totally remember the feeling of trying to breathe with that quality mask strapped to my face. You guys remember that?

Ahh. Good times.

Happy Fall everyone.

I loved plastic costumes too. What memories. Your brother, K, took my kids trick or treating two years ago with his kids. Nice, cause my husband was out of town. So which one is he?

Oh yes, I had Smurfette. I remember my mom saying, "Smile! SMILE!" and thinking, "I AM!!!" I think that was how she got her kicks and giggles...no smile appeared through the plastic mask...

Totally classic! I love this picture. The plastic costumes remind me of when you would stay out really late trick or treating and you would hit as many houses as you possible good. Dump the bag and go again. Ahhh, the good old days!

Cute picture. I just love this time of year and here in Yuma, we are finally getting some cooler temps. Just wanted to let you know that I made your Taco Soup recipe last night and it was sooo.. good! I think I would even make that recipe for our son (he's a chef in Phoenix), but maybe not let him see all the cans. Hee,hee!

Thanks, Becky, for being who you are. I am such a big fan.

Sincerely,

Wow what memories this picture brings back for me. I have been telling my 7 year old that costumes today are so different from when I was little. What memories I can still smell the great plastic smell when you opened the box. I recall trying to get it to fold back perfectly in the box. I also recall that by the end of the night that costume was coming apart. Kids costumes today while they really do have it all.

Hi Becky-I am just wondering if you have the originals for that Life Story book you did back in July? I'm so mad at myself. I didn't save it and thought I would just go in and copy it later and now the link is gone....Is there anyway you could post it again or send a link to my email: kathyg89@gmail.com??? I wanted to make them for Christmas Gifts and also use them for Girls Camp next summer-I'm incharge of the projects each year. Thanks a million!!! Kathy

I was only lucky enough to have one of these costumes once (my mother sewed every other year) and I was a Strawberry Shortcake character!!! Loved it.

The weather here in Ohio is incredible. It is very chilly and windy today but I am loving all the colors we are getting.

Becky, any chance of you posting a new layout?? You are so inspiring; I love your style. I picked up the November CK and was sad that next month will be your last sketch column (this was the only reason I bought the magazine). I am anxious to see what you create next.

OH MY GOSH! I have a picture of myself in that exact same princess costume!

Thanks for sharing this picture Becky. You just inspired me to do a page for the album about my childhood. My mom usually made our costumes, but we were an army family and sometimes we were moving or about to move and she just couldn't. Other than the princess costume, the only other time I wore a store bought costume I was...get this...a KILLER WASP! Ha! We had just moved, it was the day before Halloween, and that was the only costume left in the store on base! The picture from that Halloween is hysterical! My new little friends were dressed as Raggedy Ann, a princess, and a ballerina. And I'm standing next to them in my killer wasp costume! I was so mortified at the time, but now when I look at those pictures or tell the story I crack up! I've got to get the killer wasp pictures and story down on a scrapbook page. So, thanks for the inspiration Becky!

My favorite Halloween memory was how you'd dress up in the costume and then have to wear a WINTER COAT over it because it was cold in the Midwest. :) Jerry Seinfeld has a joke about how he was pretty sure Batman and Superman's mother didn't make them wear winter coats. :)

Hi Becky,

Just a couple of questions.
Firstly can you do another video showing us a little more of Crew's baby album. Especially showing the month by month layouts.
Secondly back in a 2007 blog (I think) you showed the entire mini album you had made for your son Porter. Do you have one of these for Claire and if you do would you mind sharing. I just loved the one you did for Porter. I used some ideas from it to make a mini album for my son who was 10 last year. It had photos from his first 10 years of life and we had it out on display at his 10th birthday party. I now have a daughter who is close to 10 and I would like to do one for her. Some ideas from your mini album for Claire would be great.
By the way love the new blog and I am waiting in anticipation for your new projects and ideas.
Thanks
Joanne

I am losing my mind trying to keep track of my kids' and my schedules!! Help!!! Thanks!

Hi Becky!
Love this fall season and all it brings with it- the costumes, leaves, weather (even if it is snowing right now where we live in Colorado!).
I know you have done some really fun projects with your kids classes at school before (like that kinder memory book- SO CUTE!). Have you ever done anything with gratitude journals for children? I'm trying to come up with an idea for 29 second graders (my daugher's class) with limited funds & time to make them in the classroom. Couldn't think of a better place to get a clever idea from you or your readers. HUGE thanks in advance. XOXO

Wondering if you will be doing another Christmas card kit this year. I bought your kit for the last two years and would like to keep the tradition going. And, how about another 12 days of Christmas? You don't have to give anything away - just fun video clips with good ideas that you seem to have plenty of up your sleeve. You are such an inspirations on so many levels!

Becky, I am SO glad to see your post. I was a fairly new subscriber so I'm not sure what's going on but I get the hint that you are starting a new blog elsewhere. I absolutely LOVE the journal ideas for kids and I would love to participate in the word docs that you have listed. However, they are no longer active... IS there anything that can be done to make them active again?

I cannot wait to see the rest of your amazing collection when you kick back up again :) Congrats!

I really hope you read all your messages because I am in desperate need of your help. We are having a RS Super Saturday Craft day this Saturday in our ward. We offered your Life Pages book as one of our items. (We absolutely love it!!!) Anyway I neglected to save the document when we first found it because I just assumed it would always be available on your blog. Unfortunately it is not available anymore. When I click on the link it comes up unavailable. Is there anyway you could email the adult version to me? I would be so very grateful.
