treat bag toppers
Once upon a time our little family lived in Cleveland for 4 years. We knew our stay there would be temporary. This chapter in our family's story was a significant one. Out of that experience there came many things. Most importantly, 2 of our 3 children were born there. Another thing? We made some of the dearest friends in our life. Now we're all spread out ... and yet, still totally connected.
Hence the upcoming girlfriends retreat that my friend Karolyn and I are co-hosting next week. SO excited. Of course we have lots of projects planned (what is it about us women who don't know how to just slow down??) and fun excursions and yummy food and lots of just hanging out. Today I put the finishing touches on a quick little something that will be part of everyone's welcome.
And so on that note ... I'm sharing a quick idea on presenting treats. (Presentation is everything.) This is something I find myself doing over and over and over. For neighbor gifts, for birthday party favors, for baby showers, for anything. Bag toppers.

1. Buy or make your treats. I picked up Cerreta's (French Mint, of course!) at the local grocery store.

2. Use small zipper bags or any kind of bag (it doesn't have to seal at the top).
3. Make your toppers.

To make the toppers, you can do this in your regular word processing program. Just remember that your text is going to be toward the bottom because all the space above will be folded over to become the back of the topper. Then you fold it over (I like to use my Fiskars scoring blade first to make the folds perfect) and staple. How easy is that?

In case you are able to use this for something, here are the files. Hey, maybe it'll even inspire you to host your own girlfriends retreat ... even if it's with your local friends and only lasts for an evening. Two notes: First of all, I created this in Pages and it won't save as a Word file because of the strokes. Also, the total size of each square was 4" wide x 5" tall when I cut them, but that's not necessarily going to work for your bag size.

Those are cute. These are the types of things I either wait until the last minute (then don't have time to do) or I'm too lazy to think of it in the first place. My bday is next week, maybe I'll do something like that for my guests. Thanks for sharing!
Also, I'm glad you're blogging more lately. I love your ideas. :)
Very cute!!
Totally cute! And what a fun idea!!!
Sooo cute Becky!! I've had a macbook pro for almost 3 years and must investigate this "pages" ;)
Thank you so much for sharing, what a great idea.
Wish I could be a part of the girlfriends retreat! I am sure it is all girls I would love to see! Have a BLAST... and give them all hugs for me!
I totally used your bag-topper idea on fruit snacks for Cooper's birthday treat... you did it once for Porter. Thanks for all your creative ideas!
I have organized a "Scrap Chick Scrap Camp" for next month! This will be a cute little something to give all my fellow Scrap Chicks! Thanks for the idea!
So cute!!!!! As always! ;-) I would love to know some of the things you guys end up doing from your girlfriends retreat. It's been ten years since I had roommates at BYU and we haven't seen each other in about eight. It would be so fun to plan something like this. We are in Ohio for four more years until residency ends and I would love to see them all before that! ;-) Maybe you are the inspiration to plan a retreat!
So cute!!! Have so much fun and give everyone my love! xoxo
I love that you find time not only to stay in touch, but to get together with friends from your past. Have fun with your "Coterie". See, this is what I mean when I say you're organized. I can barely remember to text friends I see only when one of our kids has a birthday. And I don't think I'm alone in this...
Becckkkkyyy....I've been checking your blog EVERYDAY, often multiple times, hoping that you'll post something about a new Project 365 kit. C'mon, don't leave me hanging... :)
I would like to know what you used for the circle frame around the colored circles on your toppers. It looks like it could be very versatile.
Thanks for sharing,
Kathi
Just noticed, cute new picture on you blog page. Congratulations on cutting back your work schedule, spending time with your kids is soooooooo much more important.
I for one wish you were still here in Cleveland! I came to a workshop you did in Kirtland where the project was a 2 page spread all about ourselves...it was the first and last spread I've done about just me and I'm so glad I have it!
Thanks for sharing your creativity!
I love your post. I lived in Phoenix a for a while back in college and I had a summer job at a thrift store RIGHT across the street from the Cerretas candy factory. Ahhhhh, brings back memories. Have a great Halloween!

I remember when you lived in Cleveland which is only about an hour from me! I was in a scrapbook store near where you lived and she was talking about you living so close to the shop - it was exciting for me because I was (and still am!) one of your biggest fans at that time! Are you coming to Cleveland or are you meeting everyone somewhere else?
PS I am waiting anxiously to hear if there's going to be something like Project 365 coming out soon! I missed out on the last one due to the computer glitch!
Hey Becky...
This has nothing to do with those cute bag toppers...(great idea--i use them ALL THE TIME!)...
I know you are a busy lady...BUT I'm pretty sure you are going to L.O.V.E. the article on "memoirs" in the Costco Connection magazine this month. Have you seen it yet?? ...and I think your readers just might get inspired (like I did) to FINALLY get around to gathering that family history :)
Take a look...& I think you'll be glad you did...
AND just in case you can't find it, here is the online version of the magazine....

The articles are on p.29-35 :)
Enjoy!
Yummy, yummy Becky! Thank you for the treat and everything else, so fun. I had a BLAST!!! Loves
I think I'm going to use this idea for my neighbor gifts this year....did you print on heavier cardstock or just regular paper?
MMMmmm...I used to live in Phoeni and can't believe I forgot about the heavenly mint things from Ceretta's! :) YUM!!!
