FAQs for Project Life #2

Q: Can you tell us more about the timing of when Project Life will actually ship?

A: It will realistically be around the first of the New Year, which means our chances of seeing those kits show up on our doorsteps before Christmas are slim to none. If you are giving Project Life as a gift this holiday season, I would suggest you print a picture of the product and make a card. Or ... even cuter ... roll the picture into a scroll, tie a pretty ribbon around it and put that in someone's stocking.

--

Q: Any way to save on the shipping costs?

A: I'm not a fan of the shipping costs either. Pretty reasonable for some areas and pretty crazy for other (international) areas. Unfortunately it is what it is. We will continue to look into our options. In the meantime, I highly recommending you finding out which of your local friends might want to combine their order with yours so that you can save on shipping that way.

--

Q: Are all of the page protectors in the Project Life kit divided?

A: Yes.

--

Q: Do you sell just the page protectors?

A: No. I designed these specifically for this product because the page protectors, the photos, the journaling blocks are work together very specifically and with purpose in Project Life. But never say never. If there's a lot of demand for just the page protectors, I'll definitely consider that for down the road.

--

Q: Where can I find envelopes for those free holiday cards that I downloaded on the Project Life page?

A: Remember, you can find anything on the Internet. Do a google search for envelopes. In years past, I have had a hard time finding envelopes that fit a 4" x 6" print really well but this year it's easy to find them at our local WalMart, for example. Finding 5" x 7" envelopes has always been easier because that's closer to a classic invitation size so even your local office supply store should carry those. If you have a great online source for 4" x 6" or 5" x 7" envelopes and would like to leave a recommendation in the comments, go right ahead. I'd love to know where everyone gets their envelopes.

--

Q: I love the beautiful home in the background of your introduction video with your friends.

A: Okay, so that wasn't really a question ... but I did get several similar comments and just wanted to say that was my friend Karolyn's house where we did that impromptu video (and very impromptu testimonials). We all stayed at her house for last weekend's girlfriends retreat that I mentioned. Since I was showing the kit to my friends for the first time anyway, that's how the idea came up to just film it with the purpose of sharing that on the website.

--

Q: Can you tell us more about the digital Project Life?

A: Making this into a digital product is something I have wanted to do for a long time (and you've been asking for it), so I'm really excited that the Project Life digital product is in the works. I can give you nitty-gritty details a little later, but right now we are still ironing out some details. You have to remember that having a product manufactured has a relatively long production time (which is why you can buy it now even though you wait several weeks to actually receive it), whereas a digital product can be turned around and created in a much shorter time frame. We plan on launching the digital Project Life some time in December. Of course you know this is the place to stay tuned for all the updates & information.

--

Q: The overall look of Project Life isn't really masculine but that's what I was hoping for. Do I have a choice?

A: Not this time. In a perfect world, I would have several designs to choose from for Project Life. I had a very small window of opportunity from the time that I resigned from CK to getting everything rolling with the manufacturing of this kit, so there was no time for designing multiple options. (Great idea for next time.) The graphic designer and I tried to come up with something that was versatile and pretty broad for how the kit can potentially be used (families, individuals, adults, children, etc.).

Q: Can we see example layouts of Project Life put to use?

A: Absolutely. I'm working on putting some together. We've just been completely focused on getting everything set up and launched properly so that you would have an easy time getting around on the site, learning about the product, and placing an order without problems. So yes, I'll get to the more fun stuff soon I hope.

--

Q: When you say "we this" and "we that", who are you referring to? I know you're not with CK anymore, so are you affiliated with another company now?

A: I will soon introduce you to the awesome folks who have made Project Life possible, but since it's getting super late and I super-dooper need some sleep ... I'll just quickly tell you that the Becky Higgins LLC "we" includes this amazing, hard-working husband of mine and me. That's it.

Fun anecdote: This picture was from last night. Project Life was launched and hit the ground running yesterday before I even announced anything. We were working like mad (with my brother, who is our web guy) to get the details refined and the shopping cart functioning smoothly. David and I already had tickets to the traveling tour So You Think You Can Dance so we peeled away from our computer monitors long enough to go enjoy the show & grab a bite to eat. It was a great date. Product launch and all.

Awesome Becky, thanks for doing such a fantastic job on Project Life. Your attention to ALL details is as always clear and concise which is what we love best. Also your personal attention to international customers is very much appreciated from me. Thanks for your valuable time.

I love the colors, I don't mind the shipping (nothing is cheap anymore) and I am beyond thrilled that this is out!!!! I ordered two and will be giving one as a gift to my sister who like my kit from last year. I will wrap up the picture and tell her to get started on Jan 1st. It will be like two gifts - one on Christmas day and one when it gets here.

Yippee!!!!

I know there are bugs to be worked out on your end but I am sooooo pumped for this!

Even with the price of shipping, if it is anything like the quantity and quality of the 365 product, it is of great value and well worth every penny! I know many who put together their own this past year and it wound up costing them much more and they didn't get many of the extras that we got.

I'd like to order at least 2 kits. Just wondering if google is the only way to pay? Not yet comfortable with google having my credit card permanently on file. Also, if PayPal will be an option that would be perfect.

I'm having problems ordering your kit. My computer freezes up when I try to check out with google. Do you have another option for payment? It seems to freeze up when I go to put in my zip code.

This is so impressive. I ordered three kits last night. I love the idea and the opportunity to change my photography to include the daily scenes.

Maybe I can help Marcia with the trouble she had. (see above) I noticed that the zip code block triggered an edit window so the zip code would match the state. If you didn't see that window pop up, you might have popups blocked. Check the settings for pop up blocker.

Becky, Love the quick responses and the photo of your "helpmate". It so helps when your husband is supportive, mine was remodeling my daycare yesterday.

You must have moments of "what can possibly go amiss", but by your posts you seem to have such clarity and drive to present "Project Life" with integrity. I am excited for you. After Project 365 you had me sold on your commitment to your fans and business ethics.

I like it that this is YOUR "baby".

Will you be able post when the first printing of this product has sold out and the next printing has begun? I have already purchased 2 but would consider an additional purchase. I am not ready to go digital scrapping. (Which I think is a wonderful solution for some of the fans who can't get "hard" copies)

Thanks.O

Ah, Becky, I see you have sort of already answered my question about the second printing in your previous blog FAQs for PL#1--sorry, my bad, for not reading thoroughly. Hope you sell out.

So are you going to take a photo of your Project Life and frame it with your first $ Dollar earned, like the ones up in businesses' walls. :o)

Just wanted to say that I'm SO excited you're thinking you'll possibly do this in following years with different design options. I'm hoping this is my new solution for my kids' individual albums that I otherwise can't keep up with!

I notice that last year's Project Life had all the journaling cards on the bottom strip. This year's has all the journaling cards on the middle strip. I know you've had requests for more page protectors (I hope they become part of your permanent line) and I, too, want to put in my request for a "Mix-It-Up" pack of page protectors that still hold the four 4 x 6 and four 3 x 4 inserts per page, but in different configurations. Some with the journaling along the top. Some with the 4 x 6 along the bottoms and sides and the journaling cards all in the top/middle area. Some with the 8 journaling cards in the four courners, 2 per corner. I think it would be fun to mix it up, and perhaps mix in an extra page on a week with a special event or vacation, while completing this project. Thanks for listening to our suggestions.

Becky, you've done it again! Project Life looks like another great BH product, and I plan to order! I did P365 this year with your wonderful kit. In the past I've also purchased your baby kit, school days kit, and the schood days add-on kit, so you can tell I'm a BH fan!! All of the kits are quality products!

Just want to put in my vote for you to please sell extra page protectors separately! (and maybe in the future some of the other kit components separately, too, i.e journaling cards??) I've thought that would be a good idea ever since the P365 kit first came out, and I see other people have asked to. That way, for those of us who have already bought numerous kits from you over the years, (and therefore now already own multiple date stamps, etc, for example!) :) in the future we could sort of "customize" our own kits by purchasing the parts we most want and need (and less of the things we don't need or don't think we would use). For instance, the album itself could be optional, since many of us may prefer to put the pages into our own style of album such as WeRMemory Keepers, etc. Then the separate compontents could be mixed and matched and we could sort of design what would work best for us -- but with all your cute designs of course! :) Does that make sense? I guess at the same time you could also still offer each new concept or project as a kit (as you do now) for those who are just getting started and want the complete package already put together.

I know nothing about the production-end of this for you, so I don't know if that's something that would be possible or not. Just a suggestion.

I noticed you mentioned in your last post that you would consider that for the page protectors for down the road, so hopefully you will feel that there is enough "demand" to consider offering those separately in the future I hope! Thanks Becky, for all of your inspiration!! And I look forward to seeing what's next for you!!! :)

I can't wait to see some samples of your layouts in the kit, Becky. I am having trouble figuring out how the arrows will work best with the journaling cards. Do you do Sun-Tues across the top and Wed-Sat all across the bottom and then have the journaling cards out of order so the arrows can point up or down? Or do you do Sun-Tues on the left page and Wed-Sat on the right page and then have to point the arrows diagonally? Does that make sense? I'm hoping there are enough clear and colored day name stickers to put on both pictures and journaling cards to make it easier to match up.

To Carrie . . .
I thought I'd just let you know that I used The Paper Gator from Around the Block as my corner rounder this whole year of Project 365. I print my own photos but often will do a week or more at one time. The Paper Gator can cut through a huge stack of paper up to a half inch or more like butter. So I would print a whole stack of photos on photo paper and four cuts on the whole stack and I'm done. I love it.

Even though these won't be shipping until after the first of the year, I'll want to start taking my pics on January 1. Should I be taking them horizontal like I've been doing for Project 365, or are these page protectors vertical??
I don't want to take start taking my pics and then realize on Feb 2 that they should have been taken the other way. LOL
Hugs!

It made me stop and appreciate the quality of the page protectors and the 3 ring binder.
this album has been flipped through constantly and there are no rips through the holes on the protectors and the rings close nicely and stay snug.
so looking forward to the new kit and just wanted to thank you for the amazing quality! Christine

Would love to get this, but I cannot justify paying over 25% of the cost of the product itself in shipping charges. I know you already addressed this, but thought I'd pipe in. I will watch to see if there is a reduction in the shipping charge (really do not feel it should be any more than 10% of the product). If so, I'm ready to pick up a kit!

Tina, see if you can get together with some friends and order a bunch together. With two, for example, the s&h is $18 (vs. $13 for one).

Considering how much just postage is these days, and compared with the extra costs people were paying on eBay for P365 kits, I think this is probably pretty reasonable!

For all you Canadian buyers....

the cost with shipping and exchange ended up being 72.00 canadian for everything.

Living where I do ... I can get the album (something similar for 25.00 plus tax....the page protectors as close as possible would be around 60.00 plus tax....) as you can tell...even with the shipping costs and the exchange rate....Project LIFE is soooo much a better deal.

Just thought I would let you know.

I am wondering if you will ever make hybrid page protectors for Project Life (like We R Memory Keeper sells which holds both horizontal and vertical page protectors). I love the project life concept but during my Project 369 whenever I had a vertical pic, which is often, I had to crop it in photoshop and place two vertical pics (each 3x4 inches) in a 4x6 document in photoshop to print as a 4x6 image. I thought it would be easier if I could incude my full size vertical 4x6 prints, plus what do people do without photoshop...only include horizontal prints? Also wondering, since I never got the porject 365 kit last year, is there anywhere to purchase the days of the weeks stickers separately? Thanks, Jill

Another q for you! Just saw a comment on another of your blog posts that mentioned someone got two of your school years kits when they were available...and I am SO hoping you (or CK) will bring those back? Or do another similar one?

Kits weren't on my radar back then so I didn't get a school days kit but would love to have one, having seen examples people have done.

Maybe an idea for other projects/kits to provide for us? (As if you need more ideas right now probably - you just need three each of you and David to do it all! :-)

Becky have pre-ordered your kit through KiwiScraps in NZ for $NZ85 I believe this to be a great deal now given I will be only paying this much for a years worth of awesome everyday memories. I do need to pay postage on top but after mulling it over a years worth of scrapbooking and really beautiful scrapbooking is a great deal, tahnks for making it available to us here once again!

I also have photoshop and couldn't get the cards (.png file) to open either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I was so excited to get started and now have no clue what to do. Thanks.

This is a random question, but I'm making my wedding invitations and I am looking for a place to possibly get JUST pink or green brads....does anyone know of a place I could order or buy those?? I have looked at all the local stores that sell scrapbooking supplies and cant find them!

As far as opening the cards, I used Microsoft Digital Image Pro and they opened with no problem.

As for the kit, I ordered 2 of them and I can't wait to get them! I think I am going to use it as a "gratitude" scrapbook. I want to take a picture everyday of something that I am grateful for. I think it will be a great pick-me-up on those days when things tend to lose perspective. I just wanted to offer the suggestion in case anyone else might like the idea.

I can not get any of the links on Project Life to work. The videos or the cards look like I have clicked them but they don't take me anywhere. I don't know if it's because I use Internet Explorer, but I would like to see what the project includes.

Sara Kate-
try justbrads.com in the search on their site put "bulk" that should give you a hit of 19 colors they have. They have Accent Depot in a pink and a Kelly Green.

uniquescrapbooking.com.au. but that is out of US but they have 5mm Renauld. But the postage might sink that deal.

Good luck. Odessa

i have to believe there would definitely be a market for selling components of the kit separately - especially the page protectors:) i know i would be thrilled to purchase those, too!

Thanks so much OdessaW, unfortunately those colors dont match :( We may have to pick a different way to attach our vellum to the picture on the invitation.

Sara Kate-How about ribbon? or Fastenator "Love" Staples, or fancy paper clips in a shape.

Im in Australia and have ordered my kit through Kiwiscraps. I think that the $92 including shipping that I am paying is very resonable for a kit weighing over 4kgs. I did Project 365 this year on my own using the digital images and I would have spent well over $100 on it. I had to buy the album & page protectors and then print out every journalling block also which adds up very quickly in cost and time. So I am happy to spend that much on a kit that includes so much more than what I got this year with some digital images.

Xpedx is a great place to get envelopes, they sell them by the box. We printed our wedding announcements from Snapfish and then got the envelopes at Xpedx and saved a ton of money. I also got some tiny envelopes there to write love notes to my hubby, they would also work great for scrapbook pages.

Awesome Becky,
I just ordered 2 Project Life Kits - one for me and one for my sis for Christmas. I'm really looking forward to getting to it in the new year. Thanks for all your hard work. All the best

Becky could you please share if you fit all of your 365 pages in the one album or if you split the year over two albums. I use the same albums as you and it seems really heavy and full with one complete year in it.
thanks :)
