Project Life: Current FAQs & page examples
Oh my stars, this is long. But it's worth the read. I bet you're wondering about a couple of these same things regarding Project Life. Plus, example layouts at the end. Woo-hoo!

Q: When will I get my Project Life?
A: The kits have been in transit and are expected to arrive to the warehouse on Monday, December 28th. They will begin shipping some of the orders that day and the next day. So most of you will be receiving your Project Life kits next week (yay!).
NOTE: We have been notified that our bulk shipment was broken into two containers. The first will arrive on Monday, as I just mentioned. The second container will arrive Jan. 4th and will ship out immediately.
If you ordered on Nov. 28th or later AND your order number is #3338 or higher, you are in that second batch of shipments and your product is scheduled to ship that first week of January.
Clarification added: In reference to the Google Checkout numbers, which are really long numbers ... and to clear up any confusion ... if you ordered before Nov. 28th, you are in that first batch no matter what your number is. Note: The shorter 4-digit numbers are the Becky Higgins LLC order numbers. (The first few hundred orders don't have a BH LLC number, but don't need to worry. They are for sure in the first batch.)
We are sorry about this, as it was our understanding that all the kits were coming in one container. HOWEVER ... do not despair! If you wanted to begin your Project Life on January 1st, you can still totally get started on it without having the physical kit in front of you. I promise.
I'll be posting about that before the New Year.
--
Q: Project Life was supposed to be a Christmas gift. Now what?
A: We knew all along that the kits would probably arrive the very end of December, and we were upfront about the timing from the beginning (you had to go through a disclaimer window before placing your order). We tried to be very clear about this. In any case, here's a solution that I posted earlier, in case you missed it: Click HERE and you'll see a JPG all ready for you to print and put under the Christmas tree, notifying the recipient that they're getting Project Life & it is on its way soon!
--
Q: What if I need to make a change to my order?
A: All orders in the first batch are currently being processed. Should you need to change your quantity or cancel your order for any reason, you'll have to just ship it back when it arrives (or you may just want to sell it or give it as a gift so you don't have to pay the shipping).
--
Q: How will I know when my order ships?
A: You will receive a confirmation email when your order ships. Remember to check your junk/spam box in case the email goes there.
--
Q: More information on the digital Project Life please?
A: A digital version of Project Life has been in the works, as you likely already know. We're so close to being able to show you the digital product and this should be ready in time for the New Year. In the meantime, this is what you should know: The way the digital product will work is that you will be able to sign in to your account whenever you want and add your photos & journaling to your project-in-process. It's just like the physical product, except the digital template is already laid out for you.
Whenever your book is complete you can request that your book be printed & bound & shipped to you. For example, if you're doing a picture-a-day concept for a calendar year and starting January 1st, your book would be complete on December 31, 2010. Or perhaps you are doing your baby's first year and choose a handful or pictures per month. However you choose to use Project Life, it's ready to print when you're done adding your photos and journaling.
Just to clarify, the digital version of Project Life is not a digital "kit" where you download pieces & parts and put them together and print as you go. It's more like an online book that you'd put together through Shutterfly or iPhoto. The design will be the same look & feel as the physical Project Life kit. The printed book size will be a horizontal format, 11" wide and 8.5" tall.
More information coming soon.

Q: I noticed there are arrow stickers in the kit. How are they supposed to be used?
A: Those simple, classic arrow stickers are meant to direct your eye from the journaling block to the photo that it goes with. See below for how I used them on a layout.
--
Q: Does this kit only work for horizontal pictures?
A: The page protectors in Project Life are designed for 4" x 6" horizontal pictures and 3" x 4" vertical journaling blocks (which are included in the kit). However, this kit is yours and however you choose to use it is entirely up to you! So if you wanted to put a couple vertical images on one 4" x 6" horizontal print, then go for it. If you want to print small vertical pictures to go in the 3" x 4" pockets, great! Research shows that most people take the majority (or all) of their pictures horizontally, so that's why we made the page protectors the way we did.

Q: Will I be able to fit all of my Project Life pages in the one album, even with an entire year's worth of pictures from every single day?
A: Absolutely.
--
Q: One thing I've heard from other scrapbooking celebrities over the past several years is that scrapping your photos chronologically makes it more difficult to make connections and tell the stories behind the photos. What do you think about this? Will Project Life still get my stories told and show connections?
A: This is an excellent question. I can see why scrapbooking enthusiasts may have this concern. Here's my personal philosophy: Think about your friends, neighbors and family members who would like to scrapbook but they're not. Why aren't they? Lack of time, scrapbooking is too expensive, lack of interest in trying to "figure it all out"?
Valid excuses. Very valid.
This is exactly why I love Project Life. This is the solution to help people actually DO something with their pictures. With Project Life, you simply print your pictures and jot down a note or two about the pictures. That's it. No cutting & pasting & cropping & attaching brads & ribbon & measuring anything. None of that. Only the simplicity of slipping pictures into page protector pockets and writing short journaling blurbs on cards that are already designed & cut to size.
So back to your question. If Project Life is used for chronological purposes (that's how I personally choose to use it), then that means that I'm actually doing something with my pictures. If I have good intentions to create lovely "connections" type of layouts in a traditional scrapbook ... but I'm just not able to get to it because I'm so busy ... well then, nothing is being done at all.
I choose to do something with my pictures.
Additionally, I want to remind and reassure anyone reading this that Project Life is what you make of it. It doesn't have to be a chronological picture-a-day type of project. In fact, it can be all about connections! The title cards that you place in each layout are completely flexible for you to label however you want. As I have done this project in 2009, I have included several days' worth of "connection" type of photos, so while my album is a chronological sequence of daily pictures, it's a total mix of everything from events, mundane happenings, things sitting around the house, people that we love, and ... well ... even connections.
--
Q: Could you please show us some pages using Project Life? Please, I need some ideas!!!
A: You bet! Here are a few ways that one could use the Project Life kit to preserve & display photos:
1. Picture-a-day. I know this is something that many of you have done in 2009 and many of you aspire to do in 2010. Our family has been doing this. We're only 9 days away from completing an entire year's worth of memories in daily pictures and I am being completely honest with you ... this has been the most fun, most liberating, most complete way of telling our family's story. And we're doing it again in 2010 with Project Life. Of course.

2. Month-at-time. If taking a picture every single day seems daunting or just plain impossible in your world, Project Life is still a solution for you. Simply choose a handful of your favorite pictures from the month, do a little journaling to explain those highlights, and you're done "scrapbooking" for the month.

NOTE: You could even try taking daily pictures and when it gets too hectic and you fall behind, just do a monthly layout here & there so that you can keep going and keep preserving your photos. You can always get back on track with daily pictures when you're ready. It's all one, on-going story in the same scrapbook.
Isn't that cool? Okay, moving on.
3. Event-based layouts. Let's say you go on a trip for a couple days and you want the entire layout to be about that vacation. Or you have a birthday or wedding or some other event. Simple. You label your title card accordingly and do your pictures and journaling. Want to include more pictures? Then it goes on to the next layout and the next and however many layouts you want to do.

NOTE: Don't forget to get your kids involved. The journaling on the Disneyland layout was written by 13-year-old Kayla and 8-year-old brother Cameron. Maybe you know a youngster that would enjoy doing Project Life all on their own!
4. Baby's First Year. Expecting a baby soon? Have a friend who is expecting? I smell a great gift idea. Consider Project Life to hold baby's photos & highlights & milestones & memories. In this example, it's Avery's 6th month (isn't she gorgeous!?) so the layout highlights favorite photos and notes from just that month. And so it goes for every other month in baby's first year.

Whew! Okay, that was a lot. But hopefully it answered a lot of your questions.

I have to say I am a little disappointed about the digital Project Life kit. I was hoping for jpg files like you gave us with the Project 365 that I could print on my own and put in my own album. :(
Wow! Thanks for all the info. so excited to get my kit...Merry Christmas!
I am bummed as well about the digital version. I have loved the 365 kit from last year and was willing to pay for what I'd envisioned this kit would be. I ordered the physical kit for my sister, but I am sorry to say I won't be ordering the digital one for me.
I'll add my disappointment to the list on the digital kit. I don't want to print a photo book. I was eagerly awaiting word on the digital format and hoping for downloadable elements that I could play with and tweak to my satisfaction. Unfortunately, I won't be ordering.
I will say that I am THRILLED about the digital idea! This sounds great to me. I like the idea of putting it altogether and then having a book printed and bound for me. I'm more excited about it now than I was before. Hopefully others will be excited too. I know you are working long and hard on this.
Thanks for all you do!!!!
I cancelled my order for the physical kit because I was excited about trying the digital version. I am disappointed to hear about the format for the digital kit. I'm not sure what I'll do now. Reorder the physical kit? Try the picture book? Do something else?
I like photo books. I think the digital version will be great--now I just have to find out which one my husband got for me for Christmas!
With all respect to those who are disappointed in the digital format...but isn't the Project Life supposed to be a quick simple easy straightforward method of recording life?
While I'd personally enjoy digital elements I can tweak and mold into what I want, I see why this digital model is the method of choice for this project.
Keep in mind there are many many many people out there that just don't have the desire, knowledge, or time to learn how to manipulate the digital files, or invest in the physical materials. Drag n drop is about all they want or are comfortable doing. I know several people that won't scrapbook at all because they feel its so involved product wise or technologically. One person still seeks my assistance in just beginning a Shutterfly photo book. I enjoy every project and every moment of answering her questions and showing her how to do it.
So, please, nix the negativity and look at it from the perspective of opening these opportunities up to a vast number of new people who otherwise may just keep their photos on their cameras or in boxes.
Becky puts her heart and soul into everything she does and I'm saddened to see the negativity and entitlement in just the first posts here. She spent so much time monitoring this whole thing TWO days before Christmas when most of us are celebrating being off work for the rest of the week, year, etc, and welcoming our Christmas guests.
Embrace the simplicity of it all...
I was going to order another kit for my friend in Texas. But I'm thinking your digital might be the way to go for her. Having someone else put it into book form maybe a better route. My girl, Ami, did a digital wedding guest book done through a bookmaking
photo company and it was nicely made.
Will watch for what you show about it.
Like the examples. I have a combo of all of them in my Project 365, so I will really enjoy this time around the sun.
I ordered Nov. 14th, BUT my the last 4 digits are higher than 3338, but I did see that AND was upper case. So I will be pleasantly surprised with what shows up first.
::standing ovation:: for chris h!!! i agree!!! i am so very grateful that becky shares her wonderful ideas with us and then goes a step further to offer pre-made kits to us to make our lives eaiser!
::standing ovation:: for becky as well!!! thank you for all you do! i, for one, greatly appreciate it!!!
I agree with Chris H. Although I had envisaged the digital version being more like a 'kit', the simplicity of what is described is appealing. While I have done (and enjoy making) digital layouts with kits, they are all still just sitting on my computer (and take me longer to make than I really have time for). I think the drag and drop assembly concept will be quick and easy and will definitely be worth a try. I really like the idea of having a printed, bound book being sent to me when I'm done. And who knows, maybe next year Becky will add a digital kit version that I'll want to play around with.
I agree with Brenda. I thought it was going to be a digital "kit", but, on the other hand, was extremely overwhelmed by that fact as well. I kind of like the idea of drag and drop to begin with because I am a little scared to try digital scrapbooking. I did order the physical kit because I loved P365 so much (even though I am about 6 months behind with my journaling blocks).
Becky, don't be discouraged. I love what you do. You and Ali Edwards are the two reasons I kept my subscription to Creating Keepsakes. I pretty much enjoy everything you two come up with. Sadly, I am not nearly as creative, but I try to focus on a words and pictures approach. You both make that very easy to do. Thanks for all your hard work and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Sorry to say I am disappointed that the digital is not a kit, but the book. I live in B.C. Canada and I bet that is going to be 3x the price of the original.
I so want to buy one, or three actually. Can you please address how much it costs for duty to BC or even the other side of Canada. I'm sure someone has bought one and will get it soon. I'm willing to pay extra, because I've been waiting a year for this, but if its $20 or more dollars extra I might as well make my own :(
Thank you so much for helping everyone out. You are an amazing person, and I'm really looking forward to getting the kit if I can.
I have to say I'm THRILLED with the idea of the digital book! I'm pretty psyched about the physical book but I may have to get the digital one instead. It sounds super simple! I've been scrapbooking for about 12 years now & lately the paper type of scrapbooking hasn't been happening due to lack of time & space. But that digital photo book?? THAT I could easily work on here & there without the mess of paper. LOVE IT! And I can't wait to see it!!! ;-)
I love that you are making "scrapbooking" projects for people like me that have no time or talent to scrapbook, but yet still want to preserve the memories in a nicer way than the store bought photo albums.
The digital one sounds perfect for me. I was also wondering about the price of shipping a book to Canada. Also wondering how long Project Life is available to purchase? Will it be around in March still?
Thanks so much!
@Chris H...no negativity here. Expressing disappointment is not that same thing. I would like my albums to match and don't want to order a photo book. That doesn't mean that I don't respect and admire Becky and her work. As a customer, I wanted to give her my feedback as I have a right to do. I think it's great for people who want to do a photobook. It's just not what I was hoping for. Becky is running a business now and, as a customer, I was letting her know what I would like to buy. Asking for what I want is not an entitlement. It is simply asking for the product I was hoping to buy. Merry Christmas!
Becky,
Thanks for taking time in these very busy days to make this HUGE post!!! I ordered two kits on Nov. 14th., so I think I'll get them next week!!! I'm so excited about it, especially because I was not lucky enough to order the project 365 last year, and I can say that I just LOVED the concept of taking a daily picture and document our lives in that way. Don't worry about the digital part of this, just keep going and again, THANKS SO MUCH for all your work this year!!!!
Have a wonderful Christmas !!!
Karina
First of all thanks for all the examples. People stress too much about these things. My book for 2009 is one that I made up myself because I didn't get the project 365. So some weeks are just that a picture a day, others are only a few days or even just one from a week. Make the book whatever YOU want it to be. I did buy the project life and am looking forward to it. I was also looking forward to the digital too, but I am with those disappointed people. But I will live and I do have the physical one. I can figure out digital on my own. Thanks again for the great ideas!
Thanks Becky for the great info! I'll be waiting to hear more info on the digital kit - it sounds intriging. I didn't get the kit last year and have been blogging my daily photos and comments - hoping to get them printed into a "blog book" once the year has finished. I like the idea of a cohesive look though and will be interested in seeing the price comparison (yes - again asking those shipping questions as a fellow Canadian as well). Thanks for the inspiration and have a BLESSED Christmas!
I'm so excited for Project Life to show up at my door.
Yippe. My order number is in the 1,000 so I should have both kits soon. I printed a picture and wrapped it in a really BIG box for my sister to open Christmas morning. It has taken everything in me not to tell her!!! I know she will love it as she loved mine last year and asked me to tell her if a new kit came out this year. I sorta had to lie (hope that is ok) and say that I hadn't heard a word about a new kit. She was a bit disappointed in hearing that so I know Christmas morning she will be excited!!!!!
Thank you Becky for making the digital version available. I appreciate all your hard work, heart, and soul you put into your products. I know there are several craft companies that are doing digital versions of their products similar to yours in "book" format. You are such an inspiration to me. Thank you for helping me find a solution to getting my pictures off the computer, out of my sort box, and into albums. My kids love to look at their scrapbook and Project 365albums. My son is just learning to write his name and wants to put his "Name" sheet in the scrapbook! Awesome! Thank you again for ALL you do. Have a wonderful holiday, Lauren
I am so excited, I am in the first batch so hopefully will have the kit to start the new year!!!
I'm curious, will the digital kit be the same cost? I might do that version for my kids, also with the digital version will you be able to order multiple copies of the same book at the end or will you have to put the digital version together separately for each copy?
Once again, thank you for keeping us up to date with everything & for all of your hard work to get this all put together.
I love the description of the digital kit. I have PSE7 but never use it for scrapping. I have no idea how. I would love the simplistic idea Becky has! Thank! I can't wait to see it.
I love the digital book idea! I can see why some people might be disappointed that it won't consist of "elements" but I do think the concept will make it incredibly easy to keep up with. It is perfect for my lifestyle. Thank you!
I have been so good all year keeping up my Project 365. I was almost thinking a break from making sure I got a picture almost everyday would be nice. But now when I look back over the year I am so grateful I have it and so, of course, have ordered the new kit. What an easy way to capture the year (and how my grandson is growing) until I get around to more complete pages in another album for the big stuff (vacations, holidays, etc.) If I don't happen to take a picture one day, I just use something generic about my life (book I'm reading, garden, stuff that's non-specific for the day. It all works.) I think your digital format will be a huge help for people who don't know how to manipulate all those digital elements. I know it is way beyond me although I am blown away by what some people can do digitally. Way to go, Becky! You are the BEST. Thank you.
I'm also disappointed by the digital option. As others have said, I was looking forward to a traditional digital kit with layered templates, .png images and the like. I definitely won't be purchasing the option offered. Oh well. It's not like I can't make do with what I have.
I too cannot WAIT to get my Project Life kit to start recording my life in 2010! Thank you so much for all your inspiration and for posting the sample layouts. Thanks for designing a great product Becky!
By the way, I just tried your recipe for the Andes chocolate cookies...and they are a hit!!
Thank you for keeping us updated Becky~ I did project 365 last year, and my husband loved it so much, he said he will help me take pictures this year with Project life!
Thank you so much for the big update! I am so excited to get my hands on this!!! I have almost completed Project 365...and have loved every minute of it.
The sample layouts are excellent!
Thanks again!!
so excited...thanks for the visual support and the ideas. Blessings to you and yours this Christmas!
Thank you for the update, Becky, and I hope that this endeavor will turn out to be successful for you and your family. Unfortunately I also fall into the category of those disappointed by the digital option and as a result I will not be purchasing the product as I had planned to this year. The main thing that I dislike about the photobook format is the size. The compressed size means that the pictures and journaling will have to be significantly smaller than those in the non-digital format. I know there are many photobook companies that offer 12x12 formatting, and if you can offer the digital project in that size, then I would reconsider.
What happens if we're out-of-town when the packages come?

I too am disappointed with the digital version as I had hoped to mix and match pages in my album. I understand that an online book might be easier for some folks, but it would be nice if it was offered both ways.
And since I'm dreaming, I'm one of those odd folks who take mostly vertical pixs, maybe next year there could be pages for us vertical photographers.
Yipeee! After not getting your version of P365 I made my own this past year and have kept up with it. Only one more week to go! It's the album everyone reaches for and I love it. With Project Life I think I'll do the monthly layout with several favorite pictures of the month on one spread. I LOVE the concept and I am very excited about Project Life. Thanks for your concept and keeping us informed. Can't wait to get mine! rhonda~~~
I am also enthused about the digital project. I ONLY print books that are bound and do all of my "photo booking" via digital formats. This will be a lot quicker and I am excited.
Thank you,
Kim
Dear Becky very exicted about project life and thanks so much for helping me start to get up to date as life is getting so much busier as my kids get older. I was just wondering as I have order my project life from australia on 23rd of nov if I still get project life in the 28th dec batch as I havent received any updates from kiwiscrap website is that because your site includes us downunder or not if not how can i track my order! Great job and always keep inspiring us all to get our stories recorded Thanks
Merry Christmas Becky! Take a nice break with your family because you deserve it! Can't wait to get my kits in the mail. :)
Whoo Hoo! I am so excited to get my physical kit! It doesn't matter if I am in the first or second shipment, it still will be her soon. I for one am very intrigued by the digi kit idea. I am not an expert at digi so the idea of a finished photo book is so appealing to me that I might just go buy one of those too. Thanks Becky for both opportunities! You are WONDERFUL and I love how giving and sharing you are with your talents! Keep up the great work! Merry Christmas!
I am excited to hear that the project will ship soon... but I do have a question that i would love for you to answer, i have asked it earlier a couple of times...
got a little question for your Project Life (I asked this earlier)... I guess it came when on your video you were very concerned about putting the sticker on your photo. Is your kit Acid Free? It is just not safe for it to touch your photos? I have been working with your current P365 kit, and I am wondering the same thing now. Is last year's kit acid free and safe? I've been putting stickers on my pictures and pictures on the papers. After puttin so much time into this project, I wouldn't want it to start yellowing after a few years and have to try to fix it.
Becky you ROCK!!! I can't wait for my kit! Thanks for all the hard work putting this kit together. The digital kit sounds easy and quick I can't wait for the unveiling. Keep more great kits coming. Hope you and your family have a great holiday season!
i was thinking about ordering your kit.. but with shipping it costs me about $237 dollars. i almost fainted when i saw that number xD
I'm so excited too!! Will there be a Project Life website for people to post their pages so we can all get inspiration from each other? That would really be cool. Merry Christmas to you and your family Becky! May the new year bring you lots of inspiration to bring products to us! I love your stuff!

Becky - thank you SO MUCH for showing examples of the different ways you can use this. I have P365 from last year and I never used it because I started out taking daily pics but felt overwhelmed by that after the first month. Then I didn't know what to do with the kit! I LOVE the idea of a monthly highlight and I am thinking of scrapping the last few years in one of your kits this way and calling it done! I am so tired of my pictures not being printed and feeling so behind on my scrapping. I think monthly highlights is the way for me to go. For some reason, seeing your example made it click in my head. Thanks for always inspiring me. I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas. Much love. Tracie
6 more days and my P365 2009 album is done!! I love, love, love this album. I think the secret to my success in completing this kit is when I did get behind a little-- I had random pictures I took around the house and our town that I used to fill in my blank spots. I also set everything up right away and I bought an extra corner rounder (I rounded all my pic) and black pen that stayed with my P365. Thank you for such an awesome kit, I pray that you make them available year after year. Once people get over the feeling of doing this perfect and just enjoy the project they will never go back.
Can'w wait to get my kit! Even if I'm in the 2nd run! I hesitated, but went with my gut in what I felt was right for me! While I'm mostly a digital scrapper, I wanted simple and something physical to work on...something I could still somehow make my own and figured the kit was probably more for me! For those of you that are disappointed. There are a ton of options out there already...and if you are that type of scrapper, you've probably got most of it in your stash and can find it pretty easily. Keep in mind it's hard to please everyone and if the digital isn't what you expected...then maybe next year!
Ami's baby is due July 13...the Project Life will be waiting for that moment. You don't know how happy I am that she will be able to record this great time in her family's life.
Yes, Virgina there is a Becky Claus. Merry Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season. may your family have many blessings in the New Year.

What day will you start Becky? Are there enough page protectors to start the Monday before the 1st? (tomorrow)
this i so cool! I'd like to do something like this!
I just opened up my kit today:) I'm glad I came on here and saw what you said about horizontal pictures...I take almost all vertical pictures of my daughter actually, so I'll have to make a point to take a horizontal one of each moment I want to capture for the book. I've already picked out the picture for today, and of course, it's vertical:) I'll make it work!
