will these towels work?

About a week and a half ago, I blogged about kitchen towels and how I wasn’t finding really absorbent ones. You guys offered some great ideas and suggestions, both here and on Facebook and Twitter.

By the way, several of you mentioned the don’t-use-fabric-softener-when-laundering-your-towels tip. I agree. Using softener really does seem to hinder the absorbency.

Anyway, there was an overwhelming sense of loyalty to a particular brand of kitchen towels that convinced me to give them a try. Williams-Sonoma. Many of you have been using & loving these towels for many, many years. So I’m on my way to becoming convinced myself. We picked up these and these.

Today is Day One of using the towels and I have to say … things are looking good. These towels just may have a bright future in our kitchen.

    **learned this recently**
if you accidently wash the towel with fabric softener, or it's smelling a little yucky—boil it in water for about 20 minutes.
Especially if you are using microfiber cloths, it restores the fabric back to its original absorbency.
With the pricier towels, this would come in handy. Not sure I would bother with the cheapy ones though.

  14. Jody says:

Love the towels, but my real question is what is the turqoise background on these photos?

I'm off to try boiling my dodgy teatowels that don't dry… I'll see if that works :D cant' hurt to try things once!

Thanks for the towel update! I think I'll have to try those towels out. I'm really tired of buying kitchen towels that don't work. Pretty is great, but in a kitchen, things have to be functional. So glad they got such great reviews. :>

100% cotton should be absorbent but the last couple of years I have noticed that they don't absorb! Very frustrating so I will look into W&S.
    Thanks.
