per my mother’s request.

My mom, who continues to read my blog regularly from Finland (she is there serving a mission for our church with my dad) … has made a request. Mom has spoken and I’m an obedient child. And so, to please my mother, and perhaps to provide a little entertainment for you, I am sharing this picture.

Yes. That would be me. Completely encircled with my dolls and stuffed animals, which I arranged (and rearranged and rearranged) on my bed. Notice the wallpaper which is sure to give you a headache if you stare long enough. And that ginormous doll that was the center of all doll things in my life? That is Holly. My grandma made it for me. One of the coolest acts of love from my grandma. Ever. I loved Holly. And of course Grandma too.

The context of this random blast from the past? In case you missed it, I shared a picture of Claire with her playthings on her bed in this post. And that’s what reminded my mom (and me) about how I did the same thing in my youth.

I love making connections like this. I love when our kids do thing that remind us of our own childhood.

I remember that wallpaper and the chameleons down the hall. Love you for having these special photos. XO Beck.

Oh Becky….you had Cabbage Patch Kids at that age? Now I feel old; they didn’t come out until I was in high school (didn’t stop me from asking for one for Christmas, though!)

So glad I found my way to your world! Love the picture of you surrounded by your dolls. I was googling for ham rolls and I’ve been busy copying down nearly every recipe on your blog! Come visit me at GrannyMountain….

Oh, the late 70′s/early 80′s! Cabbage Patch and Care Bears were my favorites too. We also had Raggedy Ann and Andy (like your large one but not quite so big) and one year a Halloween costume my mom made that was complete with red yarn wig. What a flashback!

  7. AAAHHHH…..that is the ONE! Love, love, love that picture. ISO KIITOS PALJON for sharing that Becky. Can a daughter be any more adorable! And then to have a daughter of her own…..just like that! You are the BEST. What wonderful memories of the past. We love you……Mom (and Dad)

What a great memory to have now with your daughter. I had Cabbage Patch dolls too, begged for them and still have them. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I love making the connection between us as parents and our kids. Sometimes even my youngest child will pick up a habit that my girls had did at that age too and it’s so cool how it comes around again.

My sisters had a large Raggedy Ann and Andy on a chair in their bedroom which I could not play with, but what they did let me do was wear her clothes for one halloween!! My mom still has my very first Raggedy Ann (very raggedy now), Campbell’s soup kids, Holly Hobby and Christopher the Cabbage Patch kid. Thank you for bringing back those great memories :)

What a flashback! My parents have a very similar picture of me, sound asleep in bed, completely surrounded by all my dolls and stuffed animals. I must have been about 4 years old at the time! Must be a precursor to all the organizing we do in our adult lives.

Holy stinkin’ cute Beck! I LOVE it. That’s so funny how it is an exact match to Claire. Gotta love little girls.

There are some guidelines that will make your online toy shopping go a lot easier. While you will most likely find varied opinions, you’ll probably see an overall positive or negative consensus on a particular toy or brand.
