Napkins and fruit. Two essential things in our kitchen. This is how I did a quick makeover on a couple of our kitchen accessories. This napkin holder was a part of a set we got at Costco a while back. Thousands of families have the same one in their kitchen. (Oh Costco, we love you.) It was time to bid farewell to the black and give it a fresh coat of green. Key Lime, to be exact.

I found this at Home Goods recently. It holds our non-refrigerated fruit on top of our kitchen bar. The change is subtle. It was a weathered & worn white and now, after a little love from a metallic spray paint, it is silver.

You’ll notice I didn’t do any distressing on either one of these pieces. They both have a clean, glossy finish. The end.

after your first post (way back when) on this topic, I changed how I look at items. everything now seems to have potential. thanks for all the spray painting tips!!
Can I just say…. you are my hero for doing all of these spray paint projects! You alone completely inspired me a few months back to start this, which led to a huge re-do in my house. I now have color! And it makes me very happy! ;o)
The more you show of your kitchen, the more I want to see ALL of it! Is that a pink polka dotted barstool?
Ya think my husband would kill me if I spraypaint my chandelier lime green?
Tee hee..
I am loving all of the color in your house! One question….what made you switch from your previous classic style to a house full of color? I feel like I am surrounded by browns, blacks, maroons and greens but I’m unsure of how to make a complete change with all of the dark leather furniture that I have. Would love a complete tour!
I also love how your house is full of color! I love bright colors, but feel like I have to stick with one or two, per decorating “rules”. I would love to just start adding bright colors, any suggestions on the best way to do it, or should I just jump in?
So do you have to buy a particular kind of spray paint for it to end up glossy? (Or is that the finishing part that you mentioned in your tips and previous posts?) I think that you’ve won the title of Decorating Queen with all of your spraypainting projects, and they are inspiration, but can you show us more of your Organizational Queen ideas, favorite products, etc. Thanks for your artful inspiration.
This is so much fun to see. I am looking around my house to see what I can paint and going to visit Home Goods, TJ Max and Ross to see if I can find things to paint. Looking at metal in a whole new way. Thanks, Becky
Carol in Peoria….
You have inspired me to add pops of bright colors all over my house. We had to redo our house from top to bottom after hurricane Ike and in the main living areas I chose a tuscan yellow with brick red accents…I love it…but after seeing glimpses of your kitchen I realized that turquoise blue would be the perfect accent color. For your readers, figure out what bright color would accentuate your current scheme and go. for. it in small ways like pillows, scrapbook paper in a frame, flower pots, etc. Home Goods is my. best. friend…and I will be spray painting some items very soon!

Becky…what kind of wall paper do you have in your eating area…it looks like craft paper with a white design…although it wouldn’t work in our current home, I’d love to have the reference information for a future home!
These are great! I just drove by Home Goods yesteday (walosttrying to getsoewhere else). Now I can see I need t make arip into Home Goods. Love that fruit container!
We replaced napkins in our house with reusable towels. I figured since your post about the kitchen towels that maybe you were doing that instead of paper towels. ( I have reduced the number of rolls from around 1 every two days to 1 a months or so. I still use for bacon and gross things like dog messes.)
