I’ve blogged about spray-painting here and here and here. Because I think it’s awesome. And easy. And frugal. And creative. Yet simple. And fun.
If you’ve never tried spray-painting, this just may be the time you give it a try. I’ve put a whole bunch tips & tricks into a document for your convenience. Share it with anyone that might be interested in giving it a try. Get a group of friends together for a spray-painting pow-wow and print copies for everyone. You have my permission to use and distribute this handout. Go for it. Spread the love. : )
Each day this week I’ll be sharing little pieces of inspiration to get the wheels a-spinnin’ in your head.

Hi Becky…thank you so much for doing this, but I can’t seem to print it off…please help! Thanks again!!

To Rebecca Kostiuk,
You have to click on the blue title again on the second screen. That worked for me. Hope that makes sense.
Whoops; it’s an orange title on that second screen, but you know what I meant hopefully.
Thank you so much…so sweet of you to take the time to help me!!
one more suggestion…when your done spraying your item, clean your spray can nozzle out…turn your spray can upside down and spray until nothing comes out the nozzle. You’ll be happy you did the next time you go to use it.
Some of the new cans spray upside down. Cleaning the nozzle out this way just wastes the paint. I learned the hard way. I sprayed for about ten seconds and it never stopped. I had to revert to reading the directions on the can and they said to just wipe the nozzle clean. It probably depends on the brand.
Becky-
I think it is soooo cool that you are so into spray painting!!! My biggest reason is purely selfish, personal validation! I have been a huge fan of spray paint for years and most of my friends think I am crazy! If I didn’t like the color of something I owned(no matter how much it originally cost) I would just spray paint it!! I have also used the frosted glass, stained glass spray, and stone spray. Right now I am getting ready for my sons graduation open house and there are at least 5-6 different cans waiting for use!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Is it ok to print copies of this and share them at a Relief Society activity? It’s a really great handout!
Here’s hoping I can get this to print!
Thanks! I’m looking forward to painting something!
I love your love of fonts and the fact that you tell your groupies the fonts you use! The handout is so handy and thoughtful. Thanks for continuing to inspire with your creativity. Gotta go find something to spray paint.
Becky, Any tips on spray painting graffiti?! (Just kidding- sorry- I’m suffering from lack of sleep and a bad sense of humor!) Truly, you had me thinking about spray painting a basket, and a friend once spray painted a basket, and the basket came out looking kinda glossy (which I loved) rather than matte (which wouldn’t have fit the occasion or the look we wanted), so this brings me to a question Master Spray painter: (Keeping in mind that I wish to spray-paint another woven basket) What is the top coat that you use? Is THAT what makes the spray painted item glossy? Or is the spray paint itself what leaves a glossy finish? What brand of primer and top coats do you suggest for this project? And I had no idea that primer was needed, so it is sounding like a pretty involved project. I just don’t want to go through all of the steps and have a matte look (instead of glossy)- so I was wondering how your items finishes? Thanks for the info and (once again) the inspiration. (And the tips to not spray paint your kids; that is always timely advice, especially with the age of my two little ones.) I love your blog; once again, I beg for more of your organization favorite products, tips, etc., etc. It is my latest favorite topic. (But I love the spray painting info too.) Coco
Becky–I have a large furniture-type item that is needing to be painted. It’s made of an “almost wood” product, so I have hesitated using regular paint on it for fear it won’t look great and the paint will scratch off. Would you recommend spray painting it??? ~Ondrea
