I mentioned that I coached from the sidelines as my sister-in-law created her first floral arrangement. And I promised to share. So … Ta-daaaa!
Isn’t it so pretty? I’m so proud of Lauren! I tried to keep it for our home but that didn’t go over well with her. The flowers are mostly from Hobby Lobby. My friend Karolyn and I took Lauren there so we could guide her in choosing just the right combination of colors and textures. Too fun.
The pot is also from Hobby Lobby and this is how we bought it. We liked the shape, size, and texture, and style. But the color? Oh, you know that had to go buh-bye. Nothing of this nature is safe with me. I’m armed with spray paint and I will attack. And so I did attack. With some fresh white. Looks pretty opaque and quite “spray-painted” (go figure) at first.
No worries. I planned on taking advantage of that texture from the beginning. A little sandpaper did the trick and this is after I distressed the piece and added a clear top coat.

I think this look is my message to all things brown and blah. (Or maybe I don’t know how to be normal in front of a camera when my brother is behind the lens?)
If you still haven’t try spray-painting something, next week is going to be just the inspiration you need. Basic instruction and tips on spray-painting … and of course lots of pictures. Right here on my blog. Stay tuned.
PS – Got some questions about my apron in a recent post. That orange polka dot one and this black and white one were both from Home Goods or Marshall’s or Ross or TJ Maxx. Can’t remember exactly, but that at least helps narrow it down. Those stores almost always have darling aprons!

That is a beautiful arrangement! I love the expression on your face! What a great shot.
I LOVE it!! I really want to try an arrangement this summer, but don’t know where to begin! Could you give some tips? Maybe tips with photos, such as the selection of flowers you choose and step by step guide? I know I’m asking a lot and you have better things to do this summer….but it doesn’t hurt in asking
Thanks!!

Hi Becky!
What’s the trick to get your pictures on your blog extra big? Looks very cool.
Hi! This isn’t related to spray painting, but I wondered if you had an update on when/if Project Life will be available again (in addition to the site posting of “maybe” June). Thank you!
Gorgeous GORGEOUS!!!! I make that face a dozen times a day….at least!
Becky, you are adorable! Although I’ve been very anti silk flowers I am completely inspired to try this out myself, especially now that I know you got these at Hobby Lobby. The spray painting thing is great, I’ve tried it and think I sprayed too closed to the black frame because it dripped and bubbled. I’m looking forward to your how to session next week.
Oh, and although I do love me some bacon, (your last recipe post) I’d love to know a few recipes that you prepared for your family and friends recently.
Love it!!! Ps…your hair looks so cute. You are a babe!
Lauren, you go girl. Now I want to see where it is in your house. You know, since I can’t just run over anymore
I just love all your decorating stuff, Becky. Wish you could do my house for me. Sigh.
OK, now I know this is probably not the site to ask but maybe someone out there can help me. I use Google as my personal homepage and Becky’s Blog and Lisa Bearnson’s Blog are up front and center for me and really the only two I keep up on. But for some reason they were not updating properly for about a month so I removed them and then re-added them. Well, now Becky’s works fine but I can no longer add Lisa’s to my homepage. I just keep getting some error thing that says it’s not available. Does anyone else have this problem? So now I have to go to her site each day rather than having it to just click on when I see a new one there. Grrr. Thanks anyone who can help.
Okay you’ve convinced me to try spray painting. I look forward to future posts on this topic. Love that your brother captured some cool photos of you.
Your apron matches my couch! Too funny!
OK- so I’m still hoping you’ll do some blog entries about organization. (I’m an addict of all things organization, and I guess that you also enjoy organizing from your Container Store entries.) But I wanted to mention that you are great at spray-painting too. I’m thinking of spray-painting a basket turquoise (but I am afraid it will be matte when I want shiny or that the surface will chip or…I don’t know. Silly spray-painting fears. I feel inspired to try it, though. So thanks.) Love the entire floral display. Coco
So glad you posted a picture of you holding the pot. I thought it was smaller but like it better being pretty big. Lauren should be proud! And I love your apron. I bought a cute one with similar material from a girl who sells them on Etsy.
Becky–
You inspired me to spray paint, and I have the bug/obsession now!! I have done 2 projects and as soon as I get my next color (and finish cleaning the grout in my kitchen), I will begin project 3! Love spray paint. Love color. I look around my house and see all kinds of things I am going to change the color of! So much fun.
I am looking into painting some OLD lawn furniture, like from the 60′s. It’s in really good shape, just not sure if I need to do anything special since it will be outside in the Texas heat. Hoping to see something about outdoor items & spray painting next week. You mentioned there would be lots of spray painting info on your blog next week.
Thanks!!
~Michelle
I LOVE that photo of you! It’s totally different from your normal. Very cute. I need to bring some color in and get brave with the spray painting. I always ruin things I paint…
You totally inspire me!!!!!

Becky, I have seen glimpses of your kitchen in some of your posts and was wondering if you could show all of your kitchen. I like the way you mix styles and colors.
Thanks,
Michele
