An Arizona summer isn’t complete without monsoon rain. When it comes, it really comes. And we can’t get enough of it.
Some of us are more content watching from inside. : )

Hi Becky,
Can you tell me what kind of camera lens you have? I just got my first good camera and it came with a 18-55mm lens. I want to save up for another one. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Rachael
Hi Rachel,
I have a Canon and only my kit lens 18-55 and I have taken some amazing photos. I was so surprised. I never shoot in Auto. I usually take photos on the Av setting to get the very close up and blurry back round. I too am looking for another lens and I can’t decide.
There is a GREAT web site out there called http://stopshootingauto.com/ She has exposure lessons in order and it has helped me so much.
Enjoy,
~Chrissy
hi to both of you! I also just got my first “real” camera and have the kitlens… my very next purchase will be a 50mm f/1.8. Its a $99 lens- so very affordable. AND it makes for the best bokkeh! (the blurry background), and because it opens so wide- it lets in a ton of light allowing for better indoor shots.
I know im not becky- sorry for jumping in and answering, but Im in the same boat and thought I would share what my research has shown me! good luck deciding!
Claire/Porter – waist to waist, Claire looks like she is going to be tall one.
Oh! Why didn’t I put on my swimsuit and run out in the rain today? They make it look like so much fun!
wonderful pics!
How cute! They do make playing in the rain look fun!
We’ve had heaps of rain lately here in Australia, but no running outside for us! We’re snuggled under the blankets because it’s been so cold!!
Can’t wait for summer!
Great rain pics ~ I need to learn how to be a bit more creative when I try to capture that! Thanks for the ideas! LOVE your blog!
How cool! Great photos, as usual!
Wow, gorgeous photos!
Awesome fun day.. kids often don’t get that rain!
Can see how much kids have grew!!
What a fun time, playing in the rain! Great pics.
Sing’in in the rain, reminds me of when I was little and I would go out and jump in the puddles and run in the rain. Why is it so hard for us grown ups to have that much fun.
What sweet pictures of your kiddos. When my son was little he’d always play in the rain. We also had this area in our driveway where the water would pile up and he would love to go splash in it. I miss those days. He’s 13 now and rather be in the house playing video games. Thanks for the flashback memory for me.
Love the rain pictures. We (Kentuckians) have had some huge rainfalls this summer. Last week one area in our county recieved 9 inches. There are great pictures of the flooding (I’m not sure great was the right word to use) in our local newspaper. I’d love to keep them for history’s sake. Do you keep news paper clippings and if so what or how to you use them in your Project Life scrapbook? I’m also doing the project life and would love to incorporate the pictures.
Thanks
I love the rain. But even more fun – a plasma car! We have one of those (in red)! Fun for the whole dang family. My son loved to ride on it with one of us before he was old enough to do it himself. Now he’s got it mastered. Guess it’s time to start giving the girl rides! (Wish we had some concrete so we could ride it out in the rain…but alas, only gravel right now.)
Born and raised in Tucson and have lived on the coast of CA for the last 5 years. Although I do love it here- I miss the monsoons more than anything! The warm air, the down pours. I remember playing in the rain just like your kids, when I was young. ahhh… those were the days!
Great pictures as usual. I’m always impressed with your photography. Do you photoshop all of your pictures and if so what filters/effects/techniques do you usually use?
Plasma scooters are so amazingly fun. We haven’t had rain in forever. We live in central Wa. the desert. Would love a bit of the wet.
Your children are growing up so fast. Thanks for sharing them and the rest of your family.
I totally love the monsoon weather too! I live in the high desert in California and we have only had one storm so far this summer. It didn’t last for long but my kids loved playing in the rain too. We often travel to Lake Havasu City and when a storm hits there we all sit on the porch watching the rain, lightening and listen to the crack of thunder that shakes the ground. Its truly my favorite time to be out there. The smell of the rain and the sound just brings a smile to my face! Thanks for sharing such fun pictures.
I LOVE the rain pics and TFS the camera info. I have a new Rebel and am intimidated to use it but am going to work with it this summer.
love these photos of your kids in the rain, great shots and the shoes are so cool too…we are in winter here in NZ but haven’t had much rain thank goodness
I LOVE monsoon season. I will have to make it back one year to photograph.
Becky – your photos are so great!
I remember playing in the rain as a kid growing up in Louisiana. I would be tempted to repeat that fond memory if we ever actually got any rain here in Yuma, AZ! May have to go to Scottsdale to experience it with my grandkids — ooh, that would be fun!
What awesome pics! I linked your rain photos today in the daily scrapbook news article at http://exm.nr/amCE4L
How lucky you are. I live in Las Vegas and they talk about Monsoon season but I have not really seen it in the 7 years I have lived here! And we could really use it! Yesterday it looked like it was going to storm but it never did. My kids and I were so disappointed. Your kids looked like they had a blast. I loved the pictures very creative shots. I will have to tuck that in the back of my mind to use sometime. : ) Enjoy
I have a quote that will go perfectly with the rain pictures. I do not know who the quote is from as I got it from a good friend. “Life is not about weathering the storms…it is about learning to dance in the rain.”
Wow! That does look fun. I think you’ve just had more rain in one day than we had all last month (in Maryland). Slightly jealous, and very excited for you.
What amazing photos. Thanks so much for the inspiration. As another Australian I too am snuggled up inside on our cold rainy days, but will certainly be looking for more photo opportunities.
Your BLOG is just soo inspiring. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to pass on your ideas to the rest of us.
Love it! Love it! Love it!
So typical over here! When it rains, we all have to go out and enjoy it:)
