While visiting Tallinn, Estonia I became especially fond of the doors in that city. Each one seemed to be entirely different than the next. So much character. I found myself snapping pictures of a few of my favorite doors and then it became kind of a game. We would walk and discover and see and shop and walk and walk and walk … and when a door stood out to me, the camera went up to my face. As I was doing this, I saw in my mind’s eye the end result, which is this –
I’m putting this in a frame in our home office because it reminds me of a wonderful experience, and it’s a fun collection of color and texture that inspires me.
I am reminded of something I’ve heard from home decorators and organizers: Surround yourself with things that you love or things that you use. That’s all you need. The rest is unnecessary.
In the unlikely event that one of my readers may want this print too, I’m including it here in a few sizes. Just right-click on the size you want & save the image to your computer. Then upload it to your favorite online print shop.

Applying this concept to your own photography, can you find a collection of things on your next trip, in your town, or even in your home? I’d love to hear what you’ve done or what you plan to do.

Stunning. I am excited to try this myself and am wondering if there is a place I can use your print in my home now.
What beautiful doors! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to print out the photo!! You’re the best!!
Stunning. I would love to try this technique myself. I just wonder if I have have ever been anywhere interesting enough to find enough things like a door that would look so amazing. So now I wonder if there is place in my home I can use your print!
Those doors are so eclectic! I took a bunch of shots of doors in Italy last week but they were no where near as colorful. Cool.
Aren’t you awesome to put that out there for anyone to use?!?
Amazing idea to set pictures to be framed!!
I love this! It reminds me of a poster my grandparents had of all the pubs in Ireland. It looked just like this. Great eye for color. Cool idea! Thanks for sharing.
Can you share how you put the photos together in one? This is so enjoyable, thanks for sharing your trip and being so generous to share this print.
Just what I needed to keep the energy going today! I’m finally getting a scrapbook room and am in the process of painting and decorating.
Inspiring project! Thanks for sharing the idea, and the print!!
AMAZING!! STUNNING! I have started thinking of something in our city or on my next vacation that I might could do this with. Thanks for the idea and thanks for the opportunity to use this in my studio at home!
I have a whole bunch of doors from Santa Fe, NM. Love them. What a great idea for displaying them. Thanks for the inspiration.
Ever since I saw your bathroom grid of frames (white ones with the label holder) I’ve wanted to duplicate it somewhere with either pictures of favorite places visited or I’ve always envisioned a wall collection of places we’ve lived (and will live) being in the military. I’d either purchase art done of our area from local artists or take my own pictures of a landmark that represents the different areas we live in.
Love the doors!
All I can say is…LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!
It’s like you read my mind about wanting to print one for myself! Thanks so much for your generous sharing spirit! It’s a beautiful collection!
This is a beautiful collection of doors. What a great thing to think to do while on your trip. I had a friend who took pictures of clothes lines when she traveled! She had them from all over the world, and they were a wonderful and poignant collection of a slice of people’s lives.
I think you’ve inspired me to take a photo safari through town to “shoot some doors.”
I’ve been taking pictures of doors for years. We have a row of pictures above our bed- doors from India, the church in Denamrk where my mother-in-law was christened and Peru. Fun to see your collection. Such a warm welcome. So glad you got to see your parents. Love ya!
I love this! Saving now. Would love it in a poster size for my kitchen. So colorful and such a great idea!
Wow! I love your idea, and it has totally inspired me. Thank you!
I took pictures of doors in a city in Spain a couple years ago. They were nowhere near as colorful as yours!
I downloaded the 8×10. I remember the doors in Tallinn but wasn’t creative enough myself to snap the pictures. Now I can use your doors to remind us of our trip to Tallinn. We loved it. Thanks so much for sharing!
I want one of those doors on my house!!! What a wonderful idea. However, I just want to know … why didn’t you tote one home for a give away?!?!?! LOL!!!
Love photos of doors – thanks for sharing them with us
We just got back from Yellowstone last week. I am going to try this concept with all of the different geysers we saw there – THANK YOU for sharing your idea.
Are you kidding me? in the unlikely event one of your readers would print! Yah – DONE!!! As soon as I saw it – I printed it. Got a frame in mind for it already!

Super Duper Cool. Thanks for sharing.

TOTALLY cool art you’ve made!!!
Thank You so much for sharing your wonderful idea!!! This is an awesome idea and awesome photos!! You are so very kind and generous!!
Wow, love this! What amazing doors! I really love how you put them all together.
Thank you! This will look amazing in my son’s nursery! All the right colors!
That’s fantastic! I love it!
How beautiful!! Would you please share with us how you got these allon one picture? Ironically I spent 3 hours in Photoshop last night trying to find and easy way of doing this exact layout. I recently got married and we had a photobooth at our reception. I want to creatate a collage using my favorite photo of each guest. I thought it would be fun to hang a large print of this in our home!
Thanks for sharing and for being so generous. What a wonderful surprise! I have the perfect spot it. So happy right now. Thanks again for making my day
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing!!
Absolutley beautiful …thanks for sharing, I will be printing this. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for your generous share! I love this concept and adore the doors and colors in this.
I’m another one who would love to know how you put it together. I have a difficult time with the spacing between each—-I just can’t ever get it to line up right with the number of photos I’d like to use!
Thanks again for the awesome share!!
Gorgeous!
Becky, each day I read your blog, I walk away inspired to look beyond the obvious. Never in a million years would I have thought to slow down and look at the doors of places while I was travelling. But I have to tell you, I’m dying to go on a trip where I can have that opportunity! In the meantime, I’ll be looking for something like that here in AZ
For you to share the opportunity for us to have this same picture in our homes is incredibly generous. I will be printing one to hang in my office, as a piece of Becky Higgins inspiration to continue to remind me to “check the doors” as I walk though this life. Thank you so much for touching my life this way. You are amazing!
I love this idea! You are so creative and take the best pictures. You have really found your calling. Thanks for sharing too!
The photos and the layout are lovely, what a talent! And, how nice to share with us!
I did a very similar layout with doors in Italy when my husband and I visited there two years ago. The only difference is that their doors and masonry are all golden and brown, so the overall image is a different tone. Great fun to see the difference in this little detail!
This is awesome! I love the idea, I love the colors, I love the layout. What a totally cool thing to create and then hang as a special reminder of your trip! I have only JUST begun taking digital photos, could you share the steps that you took to create this?? I’d love to do something similar with some nature photos that I have! Thanks so much Becky!
Thanks for sharing with everyone!!! this is such an awesome idea…and has inspired me to do a collection of my family and friends doors and/or porches. It could be used as a game with kids to recognize peoples doors/porches maybe as well!!!
Thanks for sharing Becky. Friends of mine have the same concept in a frame in their house though the photos are of pubs of Ireland. Guess you could do it with anything one likes. I love old churches myself, perhaps I could give it a go with photos of those.
You take such great photos! What camera/lens do you use and do you use “auto” while taking photos? Any advice or tips you can share? Thank you so much! LOVE the doors and the colors!
I love using photos and personal things collected from trips to decorate my home. I recently took landscape photos from 12 of our trips to decorate a huge wall in our bedroom. I changed each photo to black and white and cropped it down to 6×6 in photoshop and printed them from scrapbookpictures.com with a white border. Then I collected 12, 12×12 white frames from Michaels (on sale to boot), and filled each frame with a lightly patterned piece of sb paper. I added the photo, had my hubby measure out a grid on the wall, and voila….a beautiful reminder of some wonderful trips we’ve taken.
Here’s the link to my blog where I posted the finished product.

Love It!!! You’re an inspiration as usual.
way cool – and thanks for letting us print it out also – I was going to sugget you sell prints of it, and then read the rest of the post and saw that you offered it.
Love this! Can’t wait to have this framed for my sister with a note attached “when one door closes another one opens”…she’s in the middle of a divorce and moving…etc…a perfect house warming gift for a new place. Thanks BH for sharing!!!
I love doors too!! When I went to Mexico 2 summers ago, I saw some of the most amazing doors, so this trip there I will be taking lots of door shots. Thanks for the inspiration
Thank you for sharing this with us, my chance of getting anywhere as interesting as finland are nill. But I do have something to look for on my next outing admittedly closer to home, it might not be beautiful doors but I’ll find something.
Thank you for sharing your trip with us. I love this picture. Doors have always been fascinating to me.
The doors are beautiful! I didn’t even know the country Estonia existed until my parents got new neighbors who were from there. We live in such a big world!
OH thank you, I have done this with other places I have been, just love IT !!
LOVE this idea…I’m always taking pictures of collections of things I like, now to just get them all organized and into a frame to display them!
Thank you Becky! I did the same thing when I went to Ireland last year. They also have the most amazing and unique doors.
this is great Becky! We’re headed to Florida….I’ll be on the lookout for a vacation collection. Thanks for the always wonderful inspiration.
so neat! I am getting ready to go on the worldwide photowalk with my 10 year old son. I love this idea to make something to put in his room of his pictures taken that day.
love the inspiration here. and your generous spirit- I’m thankful for that too.
This is absolutely spectacular! And it is so kind of you to share with everyone!!
WOW! I love it. You are so creative and have a great eye. This is such an inspirational piece with the concept of opening doors, too. Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful collection. So much character. Thanks for sharing
What an amazing way to remember the trip! I LOVE this idea, and once again may have to copy you! Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, right? BTW…spent my morning spray painting anything that would sit still….love all of the color!
Thanks for sharing your amazing work! I’m seriously so excited to get this printed and hang it in my home as well. We’re a family on a budget so it’s even sweeter that you are just letting us enjoy this artwork as well! Just found your blog a few weeks ago and am loving it!!!
I love the picture and want to make one. What program did you use? How do I create something similar with the pictures of doors I took in the UK?
I’ve been reading your blog on and off for a few months now and this post absolutely inpired me to comment. I LOVE IT! You have an amazing eye for capturing things that others don’t even think to photograph. Thnaks for inspiring me to pick up my camera more often!
thank you for sharing as the doors are stunning

I passed it along to my college friend who emigrated from Estonia with her family when she was a child. She goes back to this very town often, and was thrilled to see the photos. She is an interior designer, and is now following your blog!! Thanks!
Love these doors! It’s something I’m always drawn to photograph too! Thank you for sharing the prints!
Thanks. I seen posters done this way for Washington, DC and Williamsburg, VA. I think it is a wonderful idea. Good Work!
I took a lot of pictures of doors in Savannag – this is a really great idea!!! Thanks for sharing
It is my husband’s 50th birthday next week and although we have organised a big family gift, I was looking around for something small (not expensive!!) to give him. The doors of Tallin is perfect as his father’s family is from Estonia and we have never been lucky enough to travel there.
Thanks Becky, you solved my problem!
Becky
Just wanted to thank you for the great picture of the doors. I printed it out in the
8×10 size and it is beautiful. I went to Marshall’s last night to look for a frame and
the first one I saw as I turned down that aisle was the frame for me. I love, love
Marshalls. It is a brushed silvery frame with a little texture on the outside and the
middle. I chose a little bit larger frame than the picture with a small mat. I LOVE
it…………………Thanks for sharing.

I did this with the photos of doors I took in Dublin Ireland. It was an amazing trip and I love looking at all the different colours and details of each one
Those are amazing!
This is so beautiful. I too have been inspired to photograph interesting doors when we travel. Last year as I was taking a picture of a door while vacationing in London, an English gentlemen asked me why I would ever want to photograph a door. My husband gave a little laugh and said he has been wondering that for years. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Becky:
I loved the Doors of Tallinn. It was really fun for Barbara and I to be there with you. I saw many of the same doors also, but I took pictures of only one of two. You took 30 or more. I love your creative mind.
Come back and see us. Next time: On to Saint Petersburg.
Kent and Barbara Michie
i have many siblings and we are all adults now. This picture is inspiring me to make a similar collage of all of the doors to our homes, maybe with my parents’ door in the center. thanks! it would also be neat to have a collage of all the doors to homes you have lived in. thanks! julie
I Love this project….I have always taken pictures of doors and gates…..your photos are great.
Thanks so much for sharing with us!!!
I have always loved doors. My things is church doors especially. This is absolutely beautiful. You should sell these as prints. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for sharing! Absolutely beautiful photographs.
I love it and thank you for sharing…you are very talented. (from Australia)
I take photos of the name of the city every where that I can find it and put it in a collage. It is especially interesting in cities that don’t use Roman letters for their characters. Your collage came out wonderfully!
Wow Becky, thanks for the idea. I am traveling in Colombia right now and I saw some beautiful doors in the colonial parts of Bogota. I will definitely go back and photograph. Thank you!!!!
That is really cool! Do you have instructions on how I can create my own similar project?
We are currently living in the Philippines and my entire family is fascinated by the jeepneys here! We have taken dozens of pictures and now I know exactly what I am going to do with them! Thank you for another wonderful idea!
I downloaded this file and had it printed at Walmart. Size of print 11 x 14. It came out very pixalated and blurry. Any suggestions on how to get a clear print? Thank you.
I’m glad to know I’m in such good company! I love doors and windows. On my recent trip to Bulgaria I was drawn to the very neglected ones with evidence of crumblage. I love to think of all those who may have passed though a particular door or gazed out a window.
Thank you for sharing these with us!
Becky, What BEAUTIFUL photos. I know this is a weird question….would it be possible to get an original file of this “poster”? My husband served his mission in Tallinn, and I would LOVE to have this printed as a poster and framed to hang in our home. It’s a GREAT piece of art!
I know if I try to enlarge an 11×17 image to the size of a poster, it will be crazy fuzzy.
Thanks!
Tamara Wheeler
beautiful pictures, my aunt is a big fan of doors & i know she doesn’t have this collection – it’s going to be a great bday present, thank you!
I love this idea!!! I have had a similar one in my head for awhile….my question….How do you get all the photos onto one photo…is it a photo program?
Thanks, Janet
Love, love, love this! I plan to pair it with Matthew 7:7 or D&C 6:5 to hang in my foyer and as a Christmas gift to a special person that knocked on my very own door not so long ago. Thank you for your continuous labors in love.
What a wonderful idea. I love taking photos of old, interesting doorways and have dozens from my honeymoon in Greece. You’ve inspired me to do something similar with them.
This is beautiful. I’m sorry I’m not that savvy, but when I right click the image size (11×16) and save it is not a large enough file for that size. What am I doing wrong?
I just found this pic. I served my mission in the Baltic States and spend 6 months in Tallinn–I can’t tell you how many times I walked through old town! The doors are BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for sharing this!
My family lived in Tallin for 2 years
My mom has many such pics ..I love it!
this print was ‘pinned’ on pintrest and i had to repin! i was born in estonia and lived there for several years before moving to america. while my entire family has been back to visit several times, but i have yet to make that trip. thank you for this awesome print! i am printing one for myself and even one for my mom. thank you again!
I love this!!! I saw a print very similar to this hanging into a restaurant once and I wanted it for my home. Thank you so much for sharing! I am going to upload the image right now and order a print! This would look really cool on a canvas, too. Thanks, again!
I did the same with doors and windows in the Caribbean, a very colorful place. I also love churches and barns, and interesting architecture. You took beautiful shots, thanks for sharing them!!!
Thank you, Becky! Doors fascinate me, too….and just this week I got a mailing that inspired me; Double doors that opened in the middle to reveal the message inside. Made me want to design a template….

[...] On the road, I had a great conversation with my mother in law, one of my best friends. She spent her first eighteen years of life in Germany. She married a navy guy {my father in law} and moved back to the states shortly after their wedding. She has now spent a few more years living in the United States than years in Germany. But she’s been back for visits {I went once, too} and her sister is still in Germany and they are great about not letting the miles separate them. The other day her sister sent her a beautiful picture of a front door, which got us talking about the difference between doors in our area compared with doors in her hometown, Lutjenburg, Germany. front door in Provence Between that conversation and my visit in the Northeast, which is so rich in culture and history, I’m inspired to give my door a little punch of color. One of my favorite tours on this vacation, was our visit to Mount Vernon, George Washington’s estate. I have a few pictures I’ll be posting soon about that visit. Each room throughout the house has the original colors. Back then, men decorated the houses, with exception to the master bedroom, which is decorated by the woman of the house. Bold colors back than were a symbol of wealth and position. Each room throughout the house had a vivid color on the walls, until Martha and George Washington’s house, where the bedroom had a very neutral wall color and almost a fog blue colored trim. I’m most impressed, Martha had some great taste in color! Becky Higgins [...]
I absolutely love the doors of Tallinn. I was also fascinated by the beautiful colors and architectural design and the wide variety of styles when I lived in Estonia for a year and a half. Thanks so much for sharing. Some of these doors bring back wonderful, special memories of roaming the streets of Old Town.
I love this – my son was in Tallinn Estonia and his camera was recently stolen. He is so sad to loose the pictures he took there. it will be great to be able to print this picture and have it framed for him.
This is BEAUTIFUL, I am hoping to get a print done soon and hang it in my entry way. Fabulous work and a very impressive Vaca!!
When my son was in junior high, he went on a 2-week mission trip to Estonia in 1995. We lived in England at the time & became good friends with missionaries there. When they moved to Estonia, they invited him to come with there with the high school missions group. I love this door print. I’m excited to print and frame it as a surprise for him. Thank you so much for sharing.!
