I don’t know what it is about photographing food, but I find myself staring at edible delights from behind the lens on a regular basis. Sometimes it’s to accompany a favorite recipe (for crying out-loud, I finally posted a new recipe!). Sometimes it’s to capture the essence of what our taste buds experience on special occasions.
For those of you doing Project Life, consider photographing what you eat. After all, food is part of your life story just as much as anything else. Think about it from all angles. The examples shown here are “special occasion” foods because they’re from our travels abroad this summer. But don’t overlook that bagel you have almost every morning for breakfast or Mom’s famous meatloaf that you enjoy monthly or the snack you reach for while working on the computer.
By the way, the last picture is my personal favorite. If that doesn’t tell the story of how delicious the dessert was, I don’t know what will.

For crying out loud, what WAS that dessert, anyway? Do you have the recipe for THAT? I enjoy your blog everyday!
I love photographing food! It sits still, and it’s usually patient enough for you to take as long as you want. (That is, unless you want to eat it while it’s still hot.)
Wouldn’t a Project Life book of the food you eat for a year be WONDERFUL! Think of all the fabulous meals you make on a daily basis and record that in one place! It could include recipes or resources where you found the recipe.
And the pictures would be DELICIOUS! The perfect book to flip through on those “What do you want for supper?” Nights.
Mmmm. I’m getting hungry already.
Angie – that is such a GREAT idea!! Even if you were to do it on a weekly basis not daily. WOW!! They would be such a great things to pass on.
Dang. I’m hungry now!
Would you be willing to share a little more about how you organize your recipes? I’d love to include pictures with my recipes but don’t have any really good ideas at the moment.
Tabitha –
Explore Tastebook.com for a great professional recipe book – made by you. Enter your recipes and upload a picture. They’ll do the printing and send it to you. Great stuff!
If you’re not really up for that, I’m thinking Project Life with a page for each recipe. Include pictures of the dish and in one of the picture spots, put the recipe card. How fabulous! I’m so excited about it all!
I’ll have to check that site out – thanks!! I like the Project Life Idea as well.
Becky, Becky, Becky…. All I can say is “Thank You”.
I know there are alot more of us out there – the mother’s/females that pull out their camera’s and take picture’s of all different kinds of things besides birthday parties, reunions and wedding’s. Just the other day my husband thought I was nuts when on the way home from an outlet mall (which I must say was an experience as he has never been to one) that I was taking pictures of the big pillowy clouds. And what does he do the next day?? Yep, you guessed it! He took my camera outside to take pictures of the big pillowy clouds. :O) You gotta love them! Thank you again!
p.s. I am going to Texas to visit my daughter and we are going to go to the “First Monday Trade Days in Canton”. I can not wait to see what pictures I get plus all the goodies I will purchase. I will be thinking of you and spray paint.
The dessert looked fabulous! Have a recipe for THAT one?
Blueberries are in season here ….
Can you share that dessert recipe? It looks FANTASTIC!
I would love the recipe for the bluebery cake. Can you share??
So many delicious food! I just had dinner and looking at this, i want to eat again…
Those food photos are really, really good. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
So do you have the recipe for that dessert? It was all I could do to keep from licking my monitor!
Those pictures make my mouth water!!! You definitely have a way with food photos. I would love to know exactly what each of these dishes are!
OK you got me…I wasn’t expecting that for the last photo…but how appropriate, as it looks delicious!
I recognize some of that-like the Karelian pirakka!
Yum!
I too would love a recipe for that cake, though I’m thinking the berry is a local-to-Finland type.
Suddenly hungry! I love taking food photos too….especially produce!
Becky what is that crusted salmon thing it looks delicious! Is it your recipe? if so can I have it?
PS: Since I am the cook in my home I also take pictures of the cooking process from my perspective, I made a LO of that during week in the life and it is for sure my favorite page!
