I’m answering more of your questions today. Random topics.
Q: Please tell me where you got that wallpaper in your kitchen!
A: The company is Seabrook. The name of the book/collection is Shadowplay. I did a google search and found this page of information. But it was my interior designer friend Joan who found the wallpaper back when we did this, so she ordered it. As soon as we saw this print, she and I both knew this was the one for our kitchen.

By the way, Joan was very instrumental in the recent changes we’ve made to our home the past year or so. She’s the one who twisted my arm to go with grey walls and I’m SO glad. This is another topic for another day, but should you happen to need some interior decorating help and you’re in Arizona, feel free to contact Joan for a consultation.

Q: Where do you get the small square canvases for your kids’ handprints? (Shown in this post.)
A: I’ve been getting them at Michael’s and I always use a 40% off coupon because they’re not cheap. I prefer the 8″ x 8″ size. And I recommend using the same size from the time you start, for those of you who might be just starting this now. Back when our oldest was a baby, I went with a small canvas because I didn’t have the full vision at that point and, well … his hand was small. The vision, by the way, is a complete set/grid of all these same-sized canvases with progressive handprints.

Q: Do you have any photos in boxes or are all your photos in albums?
A: No boxes. All of our most recent photos (from the past 15 years) are either in albums or on our computer and of course backed up. Most of our childhood photos are safely stored and organized in hanging-file-type bins, waiting very patiently for me to tackle that project. And I will tackle it. I am planning to do it digitally so as to make copies of our childhood books for our kids.

Q: If I were to go through your purse, what would I find?
A: Nosey, nosey. Okay, so here are 5 things you can count on finding: 1) diapers & wipes 2) Ice Cubes gum 3) a pen 4) WetSlicks lip gloss and 5) my point & shoot camera.

Q: I love the apothecary furniture in your office. Where did you get it?
A: Thanks! Picked it up at World Market. But that was about 4 years ago and it’s not likely they still have it, sorry.

Q: When you add text to your photos, can you still print that at Costco or do you have to print it on your home printer?
A: You can print any JPG anywhere. When you add text in Photoshop or with any software, you just need to be sure your final copy is a JPG. That’s what you’ll upload & print.

Q: Are you happy with your Nikon? Are you using the kit lens? Why did you choose it over Canon?
A: We always used Canon. Then 2 years ago, the
Nikon D90 came out right before our 3rd child was born, so we jumped on it because it was the first dSLR to have video capability built into the camera. We wanted that excellent SLR quality for our video, not just our still shots. That’s the reason we got a Nikon. Now the video in dSLRs is more common. Honestly, I don’t feel all that biased about Canon vs. Nikon. I’m no pro behind the camera. I just like taking pictures. A good resource for digital camera reviews is at
dpreview.com. Oh and yes, I’m just using the kit lens right now.

Q: How do you find the time to do everything? I’m a working mom and feel like I never have enough time. I bet you don’t watch TV, huh? Is that the answer?
A: You’re a smart woman and exactly right. I hardly watch TV. I wouldn’t say I never watch it. It’s just incredibly limited. I absolutely rely on my toddler’s naps and my kids’ bedtime. I recharge with regular date nights with the hubby. I try to cut out anything in my life that doesn’t fit into one of these categories: essential, enriching, serving. Being overcommitted isn’t all that fun. But being busy and serving and doing … that’s all good. I try not to multi-task if I can help it. I struggle with that, but I’m working on it. I also use iCal to keep all of my commitments organized.

Q: I’ve noticed that you have a lot of enlarged family photos on your walls. What do you do with the older ones when you replace them with newer ones?
A: I used to hang on to the old prints. But I was never using them again. Enlargements are really cheap at Costco, so as weird as it feels … but in the name of de-cluttering … I throw away the old prints. Besides, I don’t change out the really big prints very often.

Q: Please tell us about the new school kit. When is it coming?
A: Yes, we are developing a kick-bootie school kit. A lot of thought is going into the organization and system and design and everything. It’s going to be very fool-proof, user-friendly, perfect for the non-scrapbooker, and will cover all school years, from preschool through high school, in one kit. Plus, it’ll be versatile enough for homeschool use and even students outside the U.S.
The next round of Project Life kits (yes, that’s plural) should be available in time for the holidays this year. Since that has been a priority, the school kit will be come out after Project Life. The plan is early 2011. You know this is the place to come for all the latest scoop.

Thanks Becky! Very interesting answers. I have a question about the school kit. Will it be similar to your previous school kit? (which I already have and love and use for my 2 kids). I was just wondering if I could use both or if I really would not need the new one since I have the old one? Hope that makes sense!
Essential, enriching, serving. Love that!
I’ll second that!
Me, too.
I had the same question as Theresa. I bought 3 school kits (and admit that I have not done a thing with them…yet). Are you still using that school kit for your kids?
Would love to know other paint colers you have in you home,
I love the Green in your office and the color gray that you used I wish you would give us a tour of all the colors in your home I need some insperation.
Hi Becky – Can you let your brother know that I love all the new changes to this site, i.e. the navigation items on the right side.
)
Thanks – Julia.
Here’s a question: out of all of the questions that you are asked over and over, what made you choose those questions, and do people really ask you what is in your purse? I’d be too embarrassed to ask someone that, but anyway: These are questions that I see you being asked a lot (but you haven’t answered yet)–so how about these: Where did you get your chairs (that you show in some posts, that are white?)? A ton of people (myself included) would love to know about your organization tips and favorite organization products/finds…and I also have seen questions about missions and your religion and other such questions. I also see lots of people asking about your paint colors. I haven’t, but it has piqued my interest. So, how about ten more Q and A’s?
Seriously I love your blog.
Great post. Learned a lot. Thanks.
Just a comment about big prints: Glue them onto a poster board and make homemade puzzles for your little ones. They won’t last forever, and eventually you’ll have to throw them out (either from damage or lost pieces
But you kids will have a blast putting together a puzzle of themselves in the meantime
Becky,
I am anxiously awaiting the new Project Life. I am in love. Just rec’d Project Life for my 2010 POTD on 7/21. By 8/15, I was current to 8/14 with photos in place, and journaling completed. I LOVE this system. Next year, I am thinking that rather than strictly doing a POTD, I will use each 2-page spread for an Ali Edwards week-in-the-life kind of layout w/ pics, journaling and various bits and pieces of memorabilia. Can’t wait!
<>… Wow! I find this so inspiring! Just wanted to let you know
Well, I tried to copy and paste something you wrote, but it didn’t work. You said you cut things out of your life if they don’t fit into the categories of “essential, enriching, or serving”. That’s such wonderful advice, which I intend to place in my long term memory.
This is probably one of my favorite posts. I love how you fit it all in.
I have to say that I also love how you have evolved as a scrapper, because it is real. I am struggling right now with guilt over not doing actual layouts, but it is so not me right now and you help me realize that is okay. A very Ali E moment, but it’s good to know that it is okay.
Thanks for all the great posts, advice and recommendations.

Hi Becky! I am totally curious about the “cube like” bookcase in your office- I see that you have cropperhopper paper holders in it. I just purchased the expedit bookcase from Ikea and much to my dismay, the cropperhopper paperholders do not fit in it! For shame!!!! Do you have the expedit? Did you cut your cropper hopper paper holders? I would so appreciate knowing how you did it. I am on a huge organizational roll here, since moving my scraproom, and I am very inspired by your ideas and order. And I am even going to try spraypainting thanks to you!!
Thanks so much for the Q & A. Love it! Thanks for the wallpaper info, trying to get some new decor in our house and I was thinking about maybe going a wallpaper project. Love the part about the “essential, enriching, & serving” thinking about posting that in my scraproom to help me have some perspective. Thanks so much, it is good to find out about how other moms live their lives. Love your blog!
I think you need to give us a house tour…they’re my favorite thing on the web…especially before and afters.
OK-wierd question for you–was wondering what type of makeup you like to wear and if you have any favorite lipstick brands and colors? Thanks for any help-
Becky! Love the new blog design.
Thanks for the great post Becky! One question on the school kits. Seeing as how they are coming out in early 2011, if I wanted to start them for this coming school year (Sept 2010), what kind of documents/information would I need to gather to put in the kit once I receive it?
Hi Becky! I just noticed that the personal yearbook info is posted on your Free Stuff tab, but I can’t get the pdf download link to work. Would love to take this with me to our “meet the teacher” night for my son’s preschool on Thursday! Thanks!
working now – thanks so much!
Thanks, once again, Becky! Love the new blog organization…so great that you have included your shopping list in the Free Stuff…thanks for sharing and inspiring…can’t wait for the new kits…you never let us down! (I think that I might just have to cut back on some of my TV watching! Just not Glee!)
I have your two other school kits and the expansion packs… and I am pleased to say I AM USING THEM!!!! I LOVE them in fact…. my two girls love helping me every summer do their previous school year. Every time we have a new babysitter here, they show her ALL of their scrapbooks! Now I am glad you are are coming with another one because we are having ‘another one’ too! I can’t wait to see what it is! Plus now I can save in advance for it! Thanks!
It is always a real joy to come to your blog, thanks for sharing all your ideas. Love also the new look but I have a small bug when using Google Chrome. In the first page of the blog, your items listed at the beginning (home, blog, etc) goes over the title and your text and they are really difficult to see. I did a snapshot since I don’t know if my explanation are clear enough
you can see my snapshot here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9865281@N05/4901406145/). (send me an email if you have problem seeing the picture)
thanks again for your generosity and creativity ! You’re a real inspiration =)
wow, that was fast! the layout is perfect now !
Soooo excited about the new Project Life kits and the School kit! Thank you for providing them to us!!! You are awesome and I appreciate all that you share with us through your blog and other resources!
I’d just like to say that I love Project Life. I am currently using the non-digital version, and my photos are in there thru mid-July (so I’m not even very far behind).
I have 2 children–one in 8th and one in 1st–so I’m super excited for the School kit. (I actually have your paper school kit and accessory kit that I’m using right now for my younger daughter). I am on the fence about getting digital versus non-digital for my next Project Life kit. (Maybe both?)
I was wondering if any of the pages of the non-digital version would have the vertical orientation for the 4×6 pages in the new kit.
{giggle} I AM a nosy-rosy!!! I hope you weren’t offended. It’s just one of those silly, “Wow, I wasn’t expecting THAT question” kind of thing.
I asked this ~>Q: If I were to go through your purse, what would I find? A: Nosey, nosey.
