shiny & new

So here we are. A new logo and now — a new, clean look for the website!

I’d like to point out a few features, whether you already frequent my little corner on the web or you’re brand-new here. (Welcome!)

PROJECT LIFE. Most of you are familiar with my passion for story-telling and record-keeping in our families and personal lives. Project Life is the product to help anyone (any.one.) be able to do this without spending so much time and stress getting it done. If you already use it & love it, yay! You can snag the Project Life graphic for your own blog if you want. That can be found on the right side of this page. If you want to learn more, the Project Life section of this website is the place to browse.

BLOG. You’re looking at it. It’s where I share and ramble and teach and announce. It’s like what I’ve been doing for a dozen years in scrapbooking publications — only with a blog it’s completely free, more personal, and definitely more frequent. If you want to be notified every time a new post goes live, see those little buttons up by my picture on this page? That’s how you can follow me on Twitter or Facebook or subscribe to my blog with RSS feed.

CATEGORIES. Look to the right. See all those categories? They’re for your convenience. Need some inspiration on organization? Click on that category for all my best-of blog posts on the topic. Got a question that you know I’ve answered before, but you can’t quite remember? Click on Q&A for all the Q&A blog posts I’ve done. You get the idea.

SEARCH. Don’t forget the Search feature on the sidebar as well. This handy dandy little number will help you find anything you’re searching for on my blog.

Note: It takes a lot of work to get every post appropriately categorized and tagged, since I didn’t do that all this time until more recently. (Wish I did.) So with time, the categories and Search feature will become even more comprehensive.

RECIPES. Just like what it sounds to be … the place I share my favorite recipes. I guarantee you that the kitchen is not where my creativity shines. I do enjoy cooking & baking though, and appreciate talented folks who come up with the recipes. When I come upon a recipe that I deem to be tried & true and a favorite for our family, well then — I share it. I don’t take credit for making any of it up and I do try to give credit to where I found the recipe. Note: Right now this section is blog style, but it will soon be organized & categorized for much easier viewing. In the meantime, you can always use the Search feature there to find what you’re looking for.

ABOUT. A little insight into who I am and how I got here.

AMAZON PICKS. I am often asked “What such-and-such do you use?” or “Where’d you get that?” or “What would you recommend?” So now many of our household favorites can be found together – in one place – in our Amazon store. Everything from children’s books to the best bib ever to software and computer accessories, butter bell, cameras, the round brush I use, and yes — even spray paint. All stuff that we personally use in our home. I will add to the list from time to time. Note: You’ll see several categories to the right of our Amazon store. More than just the initial window of items listed. Happy Browsing!

FREE STUFF. This is the place where you’ll find some fun things to download. You may recognize a few familiar items from my blog’s history. Now they’re all in one place. And I’ll be adding more. You’re welcome to have/use/share however you’d like (except for a profit, silly). If you think your friends would be interested in any of it, send ‘em over.

PERSONAL YEARBOOK. This is the big feature to point out in the Free Stuff section. Check it out. A very A+ project to do with your kiddos in school.

By the way — I don’t think I ever showed you where my Doors of Tallinn print (also in the Free Stuff section) ended up in our home office. Adds a nice little splash of color in that lineup of B&W prints above the counter.

Beloved readers, I hope you enjoy coming here. I’m open to feedback. Have something you’d like to see?

Thanks for stopping by.

Becky – the facelift looks great. Clean lines

    Karen

PS – I did like the old blog as well

  2. Amy says:

Overall it looks great! I am finding however the blog harder to read than before. I don’t know if it is font choice or size. Otherwise, very nice!

  3. Amy says:

I love the new look of the homepage. So clean and pretty. It looks great…good job!

  4. Julie says:

Love the fresh clean look, ultra organised and easy to find things. :o )

  5. Megan says:

love love love!! Beautiful job on the new blog!!! a big thanks to the nerdy brother!

  6. Nerdy brother LOL
I have always loved that shelf of pictures and will have to check out that door print! A friend did something similar w/ a variety of pictures from her trip to Italy and it was fabulous! love the new blog, but heck loved the old blog too! Keep up the great inspiration!

  7. Muerinda H says:

Um, I don’t want to be the one to disagree. I ♥ your sites. I been a fan a long time, went to the original CKU, took every class I could from you.

It’s just sooooo white and has a “sterile surgical” feel. It’s been stripped of Becky. Does the “cleaning yellow glove” truely represent you? Maybe there weren’t any cute polka dot rubber glove graphics? Which are honestly cute. I will always read your posts good may have to wear darker glasses. :)

  8. Nicole v says:

A big THANK YOU for ALL that you share!!!
You are very generous with your time, tips, suggestions, freebies and the list goes on!!! Thank you for making it even that much easier to access!!
If nobody has ever told you before…. YOU ROCK!!! Hee hee!!
    Hugs,
    Nicole from Canada!

  9. Holly says:

Love the new site, except for me it is harder to read. I think it maybe the background color. But that won’t stop me from coming here everyday. Thanks for all of your ideas. You are truly inspirational.

  10. Julie Rankin says:

I like everything about it but I think the font is a little hard to read. Can’t wait for the next Project Life!!

  11. Alayna says:

I agree – my first thought was WOW it’s WHITE. Other than that I really like the changes and all the organizational stuff.

  12. Debby Ford says:

Love the clean look. The only thing that caught my eye was it is missing a word in your handwriting. You seem to have “coined” the market on titling things with one word in type and the other in your handwriting. To me, I can separate the Becky Higgins brand just by a title.

  13. Genn says:

    Hi Becky,

I just stumbled across your blog from Erin in San Diego (I forget her blog name!) but I love your blog! I also took Candice Stringham’s photography classes on JS website and I think someone mentioned your name in a chat one time and Candice said oh I love Becky! I could be wrong, and maybe you have no idea who I am talking about, but I think that it was your name that was mentioned. :)

Anyway, you have some great ideas. I love how organized you are, and your blog is. Thanks for being so informative.
    Nice to meet ya.

  14. Lisa says:

I love the organization! Great ideas. The all white I’m not sure about, as well as the “icon” photos for each tab (camera, yellow glove). I think I liked the old home page better with the pops of color, but by no means will that stop me from dropping by everyday. I always look forward to your blog.:)

  15. Jen says:

Hey Missy–love the new clean look. Although I was a fan of the old too. It is really easy to navigate which I like. I am way excited to do my kids school yearbook. Thanks for the free downloads!!

    Miss ya.

    Jen

  16. Julie Bodenheimer says:

First, let me say that you are just terrific! Thank you for all the hard work you put into making this a first class blog. I read in one of your posts that service to others is important to you. If this blog is any indication of the things you do in the rest of your life, I’d say you are hitting a home run in the “service” category!!!
Second: Must…have…sketches…. : – ) I know you’ve sort of moved on to other things, but I am a very big fan of your sketches and I can’t imagine that you’ve totally stopped doodling sketches in your notebook, so if you could see your way to doing a post or download of some of your newest sketches, I, for one, would be immensely grateful.
Third, have you been turned on to http://www.babysteals.com yet? I am not in any way affiliated with them, but I have picked up a few great items at half price. I know you love a good bargain, so I thought I’d make the recommendation….
    Thank you!!!

  17. Chris says:

I love it. Loved the old. Love the new. I enjoy clean & simple designs like this in blogs and websites because it’s so much easier to find what I’m looking for. I also love that you shared the Personal Yearbook. I don’t have school-aged children, but I have been an elementary school teacher, and I think this is a fabulous idea! Now to find some teacher friends to see if they’d like the idea too…

  18. Susan says:

I love your blog!! I was super excited to open my e-mail today and see a picture of my missionary (serving in Finland) and your DAD!! They met when your father spoke in Church last Sunday. So fun! I hope my son made the “Project Life” connection. He said they were amazing speakers. I am so thrilled that my dear missionary is meeting so many wonderful people. I’d love to send the picture to you. How do I do that privately?

    • And Susan…..so glad you got the picture!!! What a blessing these young missionaries are to us Senior Missionaries!!! Thank you for ‘sharing’ him with us over here!! Make sure your son ‘finds’ us again!!! And we will look forward to seeing him again!! Small world isn’t it!! :-)

  19. Jodi H says:

I’m excited you added the categories feature, I always like to use those in other blogs I visit. I don’t envy you the job of going back through old posts and tagging them however, Oy Vey!

I have to agree with other readers… I miss the background color and your personal handwriting. I’m sure it’s fun for you though to change things up :)

  20. Amy says:

Congrats on the new blog! I love that you’ve added the categories.

  21. Kristyn says:

your hard work and planning is evident. as always, thanks for sharing SO much with us! you rock!!

  22. {vicki} says:

    love the new look!

  23. Suzelle says:

    LOVE it….looks great :)

  24. Laura T. says:

Love the new look. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.

  25. Kristen says:

Love the new look. Don’t miss a day visiting your site! Thanks for sharing :)

  26. candy says:

So cannot wait for the school kit. Just wondering what color green did you use for your office?

  27. Judy says:

I, too, am a fan of the “old” blog. Loved your old logo, the colors, the look, etc. I think you’re much more colorful and exciting than a plain ole white blog.

I much preferred the old handwritten becky logo as well. This new one may be colorful — but is not you. Doesn’t represent you or your brand very well (just my two cents for whatever it is worth).

Please expand your “scrapbooking” feature on your website. We scrapbookers are starved to have some Becky sketches & layouts. Don’t forget what brought most of us here in the first place….did I say please?

  28. Karen says:

Hi Becky! Love the new site. I’d love to see more or our organizational tips, specifically your methods of time management. I’ve always known you have to be one of the most organized folks around from following you in CK and then on your blog. I really struggle in this area and wold love to learn from the best!

  29. Elizabeth says:

I am a huge fan, but I like the look of your old site better.

  30. heidig says:

Wow! I am lovin’ this new site. Everything is just a click away, very easy to navigate. And thanks so much for all of the free downloads. That’s really nice!

  31. Julia says:

It’s FANTABULOUS!!!!! LOVE IT! Great, great, great job! Love the update in the About page, love the categories, love the amazon picks, love the freebie section. Ok I love it ALL! Thank you for continuing to be a positive resource to us everyday folks, we really appreciate it!!

  32. Jody says:

I love the new look but I miss the happy colors. Thanks for all the great posts.

  33. Cilla Anderson says:

The new site looks great, I am an organization junkie myself so I really love it. You also inspired me to photograph “window” pics on my recent trip to France. I had so much fun doing it and I love to look at them. Thanks, Becky, you are awesome!

  34. Emily says:

I love the categories! That is so helpful! Looks great!

  35. Yolanda says:

It does look great! I do love organization, simple, and clean too!! Just wondering when we can expect to see the month by month school project that you do with your son? I love the idea and can’t wait to see it!

  36. Rosa Nissenbaum says:

Thanks for sharing Becky! I would love to see something in your recipe section for “Picky Eaters”… perhaps if you pose a question to everyone people would have solutions for picky eaters who don’t eat much… especially anti-mushy food eaters.

  37. Robyn says:

In one of your older posts you mentioned a magazine that you were currently “loving” at the time. I was trying to find it and looked under “home”, “style and design” and “product” and couldn’t find it. Can you please mention the name of it again? I would appreciate it!

  38. Joy says:

For someone who LOVES color, I’m surprised your new site background is all white. It would be a little easier on the eye without the hospital white background. I think that’s why I like the old look better. Sorry!

  39. Priscilla says:

    1) Becky did post the school project, look under Free Stuff
    2) The white is not working for me, the older site looked prettiers
    3) I do appreciate the categories
    4) IMPORTANT –> on my iPhone, the page looks great, on a PC, the logo and the twitter/facebook/rss/YouTube buttons are overlapping on text and the project life logo.

I suggest fixing any bugs the layout might have. COLOR is beautiful too, especially for the background :)

    5) How about tips on using photoshop :)

  40. Jennifer Johnson says:

I love the new site!!! One question, though…the top portion is overlapping on my computer too. Not sure if there is something I need to change to view it correctly? Thanks for all the great ideas and inspiration! Love the categories in the sidebar & SO looking forward to seeing the new project life kits! :)

  41. Jennifer Johnson says:

okay, never mind my previous comment about the overlapping…it is no longer doing that! Love the new look!

  42. Janet says:

    Becky–

I’ve always loved your work! I’m a teacher and this year I’ve decided to do POTD for the school year. Tomorrow is Day #1! By the way, did you know that the White House website has a POTD?

    Thanks for the inspiration,
    Janet

  43. Maegen Jenne says:

absolutely love the face lift! great job! it is so easy to find stuff! thanks!

  44. Lety Kalmikov says:

I love what you’ve done with the place! ;-)
Congrats on completing the make-over and I hope you’re happy with the end result! Thanks for sharing so much with us and I’m looking forward to using your user-friendly site to its fullest. :-D

  45. Claire says:

This is really great, well done Becky. Will Amazon.com be making next year’s Project Life kits available to the UK?

  46. Theresa says:

Love the new look!!! Can’t wait to see all you have in store for us!!

  47. Amy C says:

I think the face lift looks fabulous!! I love you blog and all that you share with the world! Thanks!

  48. Christine K says:

I love the new look. I went to the “free stuff” and uploaded the doors picture to Costco. The photo is fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing. I found a really nice frame for it at the Goodwill. I am a school librarian and this print will be a lovely addition to my second home.

  49. Liz H says:

Super new look. It’s clean and easy to navigate. Categories are awesome. Thank you for all you do!

  50. Michelle says:

I love the new bog look so crisp and clean. I liked the old design too :)
Just wondering if you are going to update the links for April and May’s school scrapbook pages (that you did last year with Porter’s class). You mentioned in the post on May 19th that you were having problems posting them. They are only in PDF files. I love to be able to save them as a .doc Thanks for all that you share with us! I can’t wait to make scrapbooks with my 1st graders this year :)

  51. Alison says:

    Love the changes!

I have 3 paper school kits of yours but I am having a hard time getting them done and am looking forwared to the digital version. I’m just wondering if the design/kit will allow for single pages to be printed out or if it will have to be done as a total book. I would love to do a year at a time and get them printed to put in an album. Hope this makes sense!

Thanks for all you do for your readers. It is a busy life and you are an inspiration!

  52. Susi says:

I love your new website. I am so glad I was browsing my list of favorites and dropped by for a visit this evening. I am so inspired and motivated by what I’ve seen and read so far.

    xo Susi xo
