today.

Today, I am surprisingly not showing any signs of injuries from last night’s handstand fest with my kids. They were completely amused. Apparently I haven’t done handstands for my kids before? I guess I can check that off my bucket list.

Today, the little man tried eating breakfast at the bar like a big kid. Is is possible the beloved high chair will soon see its retirement from our kitchen?

Today, I am all prepped and ready to scrapbook with Porter’s 2nd grade class for the first time. Photos are printed, cardstock pages are printed, pattern paper strips are cut. Check. If you are interested in doing this with your child and his/her class … be sure to grab the free download page templates HERE. All the information is there too.

Today, I am nibbling on these mint brownies for a friend’s baby shower tonight. The top layer? Melted semi-sweet chocolate chips. Divine.

Today, Silly Bandz are scattered, organized, displayed, and worn in our home. Evidence of what the kids are into these days.

Today,  I am taking my “note-to-self” seriously (from last week). I made a quick sign to put by the doorbell. I don’t need a delivery person interrupting the precious nap time anymore. We’ll see if it works. Want one too? Check out the Free Stuff page and download it for free.

PS – I just remembered my web-designer-brother Andrew came up with a clever little no-soliciting sign a while back that you may also enjoy. Click here.

What about you? Name one thing that you are up to today.

I will choose someone at random to win a free 3-month subscription to e-Mealz. This is something new for our family lately (based on many of your recommendations) and we really like it so far. Several of you have asked which plan we’re trying. It’s the WalMart Low Carb plan.

I’ll announce a winner on Friday and also share a code for everyone else to get a discount.

Return my reserve books to the library. Why do all the books you put your name down for on reserve come at the same time — no matter when you order them or where you were on the list? I just read five books in two weeks! My eyes hurt.

  10. Today I’m going to take a shower and feed my baby. Hopefully I’ll make it to the grocery store too.

Just so you know…here in CT, Silly Bandz mean a totally different thing than what I am SURE you in AZ mean them for…here they mean what teens do with other teens…I found out from my daughter (shes 14) and was completely mortified…why they take something so inoccent and turn it into something so bad is beyond me…too much time on their hands I guess…just thought to inform you. Love your site by the way!
Oh…Duh…today I am going over my homeschool books to ready myself for school with my daughter next week.

  18. Sara Blubaugh says:

Today I am dropping my kindergartner outside the front door of school (her third day of school) instead of walking her in to her classroom because she “doesn’t need my help because I’m a big girl”! So proud of her but a little sad too! Thanks for a chance to win.

Today I am catching up – on laundry, housework, homeschooling paperwork; and (hopefully) beginning an exercise routine. Whew! Better get to it! Thanks for the chance to win. I could really use some help with meals. My husband and I are coaching two soccer teams, homeschooling, taking care of our farm, building a house, and leading a Cub Scout Den. I could use every bit of help I can get!

  34. Nikki Witkin says:

I am dying to try e-mealz. I am having a hard time committing, but I think it would be great to try. I’ve been to their website every day since you asked your blog readers for meal plan ideas. Do your kids like the meals too? I have one very picky 4 year old, a 3 year old that will eat just about anything and a 8 month old. I could really use some meal planning help. I would try the Wal-Mart Low Card option too. Great minds think alike. ;)

    • Nikki Witkin says:

Oh…What am I up to? Designing our kitchen and buying new appliances. We are under a FULL remodel. Lots to do.

  35. Jen says:

Taught a fitness class this morning, bought some adorable outfits for my daughter who is starting school in a few weeks (aahh!!) and now trying to tidy up before it’s time to get the kids. Also hoping to stop by the bookstore on the way to daycare… then it’s girls’ night at a friends place for dessert!! Definitely a great day!

  36. Mel H. says:

I’m trying to recover from the sewage flood in our basement yesterday…oh what a mess, but on the bright side…we get to redo the basement?

  37. Coco says:

Hi-I love your blog, but I was surprised to read your sign for people who go to your door (not the one about baby’s nap, but the one where you included the link from your brother, the one that says you aren’t interested if someone is selling something and “buh-bye”); I’m not sure if you use that sign or what, but that was uncharacteristically un-nice and seemingly not at all like something I’d expect you to display. OK,so maybe someone tried to sell you something that you didn’t want recently and that is why you added it. But I thought that some of your religious group occasionally did door- to -door missionary-type work (which might be different to you than selling something), although not apparently common, but I was surprised to see that. Sometimes people who are grasping at straws to make a living or are participating in a charitable collection of some sort, sell things door-to-door, and while this doesn’t apply to me, I remember doing door-to-door sales for school fundraisers as a kid, and, I think that we have to be kinder to those of little means or conditions different than ours, so I found it kind of mean. That you attached that link suggest that you apparently agree w/ the sign, use it, or like it. You always seem so sweet, so I write this so surprised.

Otherwise, I love your blog and the recipes.

  38. Michelle says:

Hey Becky — My SIL had the doorbell problem. Wanted to mention she taped her handwritten sign OVER the doorbell itself. People could still knock on the door of course, but blocking the doorbell itself led to more people *noticing* the sign. Just a suggestion!

  39. Courtney says:

I tape my sign over the doorbell also. And to the above comment… I think you are great and nice and I am definitely not offended by the sign. I would put it up at my house too.
Today I am catching up on my blog stalking.

  40. Holly Alberts says:

Back to work for day two of the school year!

  41. CBS says:

I totally agree that the smart baby sleeping sign isn’t offensive or rude, BUT the other sign mentioned, the link which shows a pic of what Becky says is a ‘clever’ sign that her brother (?) came up with, that says this: “Want to sell me something? Sorry, I’m not interrupted. Bu-Bye! Seriously…Keep on movin’, Now. I’ll give you 5 seconds! 1..2…3 That’s a boy ” is not nice at all. Becky, come onnnnn. It’s not nice. (But like the baby sign.)

  42. Chris says:

Love the babe is sleeping sign. I remember doing a handstand and cartwheel a couple years ago and my wrists and groin were killing me after. I don’t think my handstand looked as good as yours:) What us Moms will do:) LOL!!

  43. Keshet Shenkar says:

    Great giveaway! Love the sign!

  44. Mellena says:

Trying to spend some time with my kids before they go back to school.

  45. Sara says:

Would love to try a meal plan… very cool that they have gluten free options for those of us with Celiac.
    Thanks!

  46. Stephanie S. says:

Today I am cutting price tags off of new school clothes and filling up my daughter’s closet and drawers. Fun for all!!

  47. Joye Bauer says:

I’m going to try and do something similar that you did with Porter’s class, but with my aunts/cousins/sisters instead. We have had a ‘girls weekend out’ for over 10 years, and I want to make a book of it. Any tips for coming up with a ‘template’ for pages that hopefully everyone can help with? The free download is school-specific. You Rock!!
