weekend vote

Life is full of big decisions. For everyone.

That’s why it’s just fun – once in a while – to make a decision that’s not serious at all. Not life-changing. Not big.

Like this.

I am pulling together another 15-minute floral. (Remember these and these?) Just something fun and fast and a beautiful splash of Fall color for our entry way.

Love the pot (already had it). Check. Love the big flowers that I got 50% off (Hobby Lobby’s current sale). Check. Love the green filler stuff. It’s pretty. But … do I like it in this context?

With: Kind of fun and a little unexpected. Helps lighten it up and possibly adds some needed character?

Without: Simple is good, right? Although without the greenery, I’d shorten the stems a bit more so they’re a tidge more cozied into the pot.

Okay, I know. I’m a nerd. But humor me and put in your vote.

With? Or without? What’s your opinion? Majority will win.  : )

Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I’m leaning toward with the filler. Also, aren’t there some sort of rules or guidelines on how high the arrangement should be relative to the height of the vase? Do you even care about the guidelines? : ) I’m just curious. I love all of your vignettes around your home. They’re great! I’ve tried to make my own arrangements, and I just get frustrated and quit.

  2. Amy Mize says:

    with!

  3. Lisa L. says:

    Yep. . .with!

  4. Rosa says:

I’m in the minority early on, but I like things simpler lately. So, without and closer together! :) This is fun.

  5. J Allen says:

Forsure, with, just because I love green!!!

  6. mel says:

I agree – without and closer together :)

  7. Ramona says:

Ususally, I am a simple clean kinda girl but in this case I like it with. :)

  8. Sally says:

    WITHOUT.
With is good, but WITHOUT is more like, “hey, I had these great flowers growing in my garden, and I plucked them to put in this cool pot.” Just more random – not so “planned” looking. I like it.

  9. Lisa S. says:

    Without.

  10. Jennifer B says:

I vote with–just cause I like the extra color in there!

  11. Pam Spradlin says:

With and I would still shorten the stems very slightly.

  12. Suzann says:

Both are nice, but I like with. It’s not too much, but just enough to make it extra special.

  13. Kim D. says:

    without & closer

  14. Steph Connor says:

Without and closer— the color of the pot against the flowers adds enough contrast:)

  15. I like it best WITH! It adds an extra POP of color!

And I must say I love the colors together! So very pretty!

    with

  17. Green says:

    without and closer.

  18. Vicky says:

Without – shortening the flower stems is a good idea… The contrasting colors are terrific already, doesn’t need more than that really…

  19. janet says:

    I’d have to say without!

  20. karen says:

  37. Nicole says:

  38. Christine says:

    with

  39. Melissa de Freitas says:

Hmmm…love just the orange and the blue. If you added the greenery, maybe just a small peek of green ring around the mouth of the vase below the orange flowers ?

  40. Amy Wimer says:

Without. I like the simplicity of just the blue and orange.

  41. Marta V says:

Wow, this is tough, I really like them both. If you would add just a touch of the greenery, maybe once strand, it would be perfect, if that doesn’t work, without.

    WITH, WITH, WITH…

  49. Meghan says:

I’m going for “with”! Loved your post on the pumpkins too. Just saw a neat idea at a shop in Sedona, AZ. They had pumpkins made from gorgeous velvet, stuffed and then real pumpkin stems sewn on top – all beautiful deep colors, burgundy, brown, orange…really pretty! I think they would be easy to whip up!

  50. Heidi says:

    Without!!

  58. Michelle says:

    withouth

  59. Jennifer says:

Without. Love the vase and color combination!

  60. Kimmie G says:

WITH. A florist I love once told me that you need to have everything in threes. Three colors or three types or three sizes etc… blue vase, fall flowers and green whimsy

  61. Jennifer says:

    With, it looks unfinished without

  62. Amber L says:

    Without

  63. Kim H. says:

Without, but both ways are gorgeous so it’s a win-win.

  64. swandessa says:

    without

  66. Carrie says:

    without!

  67. Tricia says:

    Without.

  68. Karen says:

    without!

  69. Becca says:

Without. I think the greenery makes it look untidy.

I like it better with. Fills in some of the nooks and crannies, just like in a wildflower garden.

  71. Brittney says:

without- I like it just simple

  72. julie says:

    without and stems trimmed.
i am laughing b/c i just got back from joann’s with my three girls (10, 4 and 20 months) where we picked out our spray paint and florals and foam to go in a container (picked on another outing) which was all inspired by your previous posts!

  73. Janel says:

With – since it’s for your entryway, it gives it a little more personality to say “Hi, welcome!”

I see on this page I am not in the majority. I definitely vote without. But I wouldn’t shorten the stem very much either. I just like it the way it is. Good luck.

  81. Christine says:

Looks like I’m not with the majority either – I like it better without. I think the flowers look great on their own :o )

  82. Steffani says:

    Definitely with!

  84. Dawn Womble says:

    With.

  85. Dina says:

    without.

    simple is good.

  86. Denise says:

Without. While the white filler is unexpected, it takes away from the natural beauty of the vase & flower.

  87. wendy says:

With, I like them both, but if I had to pick, it would be with:)

  88. Tania Foote says:

    with

  89. Callie Feyen says:

First, LOVE the vase. Second, LOVE the color of flowers to go with the vase. So my first vote is without because the two colors are lovely together. But the filler looks very nice as well. So I’m not sure. Wasn’t that helpful? :)

  105. Jean says:

Without – just love the orange and blue together.

  106. Jennifer O. says:

    With

  107. Kerri says:

  110. Denise Weatherby says:

    without

P.S. I can not wait until all the teenage boys finally leave my house so I can have cute stuff like that!!!

  111. Kendra says:

I say without. I am a simple simple gal. Either way is beautiful though! You have inspired me to go back to Joann’s and buy some sunflowers I saw there. Now I just have to find a vase! Shopping here I come! :0)

  112. Sandra A says:

  122. Rhonda Z says:

Without, because sometimes less is more

  123. Arrica says:

    With. With. With.
You need the greens to balance.

  124. Stephanie says:

    without. simplify :)

  125. Steph Helmke says:

I vote “with” and here’s why…the filler helps separate the flowers and you need something light when you are using dark flowers, it makes them pop! When you don’t have the filler in there, the flowers just blend together…

I love the color combos and can’t wait to see your final product. :)

  126. Donna Mayo says:

With, just looks more natural :)

  127. Jackie Durning says:

    without, less is best……

  128. MaryAnn Perry says:

    definitely with!

  129. Kristen says:

Without – the size of the smaller flower needs to be slightly larger – these flowers get lost among the “huge” orange blossoms. Love the look. May have to run to H.L. to find some new additions to our home.

  130. deborah says:

Without. And I wouldn’t shorten the stems. It looks more natural and artsy this way like you just walked through a meadow picking flowers and dropped them in a vase when you walked in the door and took off your wide-brimmed sun hat that you set on the table next to them. :-)

  131. definitely WITH!! the fillers really make the flowers pop.

  196. Gretchen says:

With, but don’t shorten them to much. Just a touch so they add some whimsy. :)

  197. April says:

Like I said on FB, without. The greenery is too distracting. I also wouldn’t change the stem length. I think tighter would make it seem too cramped. Would perhaps need to see it first, though. (Easier to take away than add back, though. *sigh*)

  198. Erin says:

    With.
