Dear Santa.

I have nothing to add to this. I am busy trying to pull myself out of a mushy puddle on the floor.

  2. Leslie says:

How cute! What a kid….so, what does Santa think about the idea? LOL!

  3. Kim says:

    Dear Santa,
I think you just might need to come through for these kids and get them that sweet little dog they so badly want. They have been really great kids and I am sure they will feed her every day and take her on walks and just love her so much! Please Santa!

This is just sweet and so very much a child’s heart. My older kids used to write letters like this and my younger ones now do as well. Every year we get them, sometimes just plain and sometimes like this one here of Porter’s, pulls on them heartstrings! We have 2 dogs and they really do add alot to our lives and the kids love them. We have always had a dog, from the time I had our first child 17 years ago. It was have a baby, get a dog. I don’t know what we were thinking with that logic, but it was so very awesome watching our sweet baby girl (and then her sisters as they came along) grow up with that dog. That dog has since passed and although it was hard (another life lesson for kids) I would still do it all over again. Our dogs now are very protective of the kids and yes, I do alot of the care for them, but the kids help when asked to. They are our family’s dog and we all pitch in. They love to wash them and that is always fun to witness! So, after you pick yourself up from that mushy puddle, dust yourself off and start thinking about it! It will be fine! Just tell yourself…I am Becky Higgins and I can do this! Hang in there! :)

  4. debbie susee says:

That is so sweet! So, is Santa bringing a puppy for Christmas?! :)

  5. Heather says:

How on earth could “Santa” refuse this request?

Good luck not giving in on this one, Momma :)

Porter is so talented! I love his artwork!

Oh this is such a sweet letter to Santa. How could the jolly guy ever say “no”?! LOL We have 2 Shih Tzus and LOVE them dearly. They are awesome pets! Really. :)

  16. jen shears says:

We have a rule that Santa does not bring pets. That being said, there was a LOT of talk of asking Santa for a dog this year. You can see the result of that here:
    http://jenshearsdesigns.blogspot.com/2010/08/gone-to-dogs.html
I have to say- it has been AWESOME! He’s AMAZING with our daughter!!! Good luck- since we’re all puddles of mush- and it’s not even our sweet child’s handwriting!!! :D

  17. That is absolutely precious! I couldn’t help but give an audible “Awww”.

  18. Julia says:

Sounds like you are going to have yourself a little puppy. My four children really wanted a puppy and each day on the computer screen appeared a new picture of the most adorable puppies. We ended up getting a puppy and he is my pal now that all of my children are in school. Sweetest letter ever! Good luck.

    Julia

  19. Lain Ehmann says:

He is something else!!! Definitely scrap-worthy. :)

  20. Ivana Clay says:

That is the sweetest! He must be an excellent big bro, to be requesting gifts for his sis! LOL! Hope Santa takes this letter to heart, too!

  21. Kristy says:

This letter is priceless. Reminds me of the list my niece wrote on her own a couple months ago, “Top Ten Reasons to Get a Dog”.

His handwriting and drawings are great too!

  22. Tammy Slack says:

Wow! What a great kid. I have treasured everyone of those moments in my home! :-) You are a lucky Mama.

Well…..Santa Brought a puppy to my daughter 2 years ago and WOW! it was fun! I had a little pomeranian hiding under the tree skirt myself as a girl….

  23. Lisa says:

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH…well my daughter got a new choc. lab puppy this…a.k.a. “Mia” she is adorable and not around 40lbs. a handful and controls my life:) BUT there is nothing like a puppy making a home. They will always remember this MEMORY forever and forever…hope that helps.

  24. Amanda D says:

That’s adorable! Will Santa be able to come through?

  25. Got kids? Gotta have a dog! :) Good luck saying no to this one :)

  26. Monique says:

Mushy puddle is approved! and so is the puppy???

  27. Sheryl Pyle says:

Aren’t these just the best days ever. Love to look back at these precious notes.

  28. Lynn M says:

Oh, Santa you’re in BIG trouble now! Loved this. Thanks for the smile this afternoon. As a dog mom to a 75 lb. golden retreiver, a “Shih Tzu gerl” puppy is a piece of cake. And how darling that Porter is writing to the “big guy” on his sister’s behalf.

  29. Paula (NZ) says:

Bless – that’s so fantastically sweet. I agree with Kim – pets make a family and not only do they love unconditionally, the kids learn so many life lessons too.

  30. Donna says:

OHHHHh Santa, you are (snivvel and sob) soooo in trouble, how are you going to get out of this one and HOW CAN YOU SAY NO, lol sure wouldnt want to be in your boots right now. lol ps I have 5 cats and a bird so how much trouble could one lil puppy be.

  31. kim m says:

OH please let them have a puppy!!! Animals teach children and adults so many wonderful things in life. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Think about how wonderful it would be for them and not about all of the work for you. I promise it will be the best Christmas ever….EVER!!!

  32. Cheryl says:

This made me totally teary-eyed. What a sweet big brother and what a great letter to Santa…love the part at the end where he says he will still like Santa if he doesn’t get his wish. Awww! : )

  33. Dear Porter (and Claire): Your mother grew up with dogs in the family, and secretly I’ll let you know she LOVED them (starting with Duke, and all the way through Punkin — remember, Becky?). So I know you’ll have a dog before long. It’s not a matter of IF, just WHEN. Hang in there (until Christmas?). I’m sure Santa will get your letter. We know, ’cause his workshop is here in Finland. We got to meet him last Christmas. Love, Grandma and Grandpa Allgaier

  34. Angela Williams says:

You ARE buying them a puppy for Christmas, right? So, so, so, so sweet!

  35. Gloria says:

Who would not turn into a puddle. This is some serious stuff, Santa how can you refuse, the sweetness, the drawing (no presure) and not to mention he will still like you if not.
    Gloria h

  36. Pam says:

Oh, that is just too precious! It is the sweetest thing ever. So…..?

  37. cristalfab says:

If Santa brings one, there will be LOTS of mushy puddles, so get ready!

  38. ErikaB says:

So sweet and thoughtful! I don’t know many little boys who would be so kind to put a request into Santa for a little sister. Made me smile!

  39. Brandi C says:

And if that didn’t break your heart….I can’t wait to hear what the Higgins children get for Christmas! Also, another reason I scrap. What parent wouldn’t want to remember these precious days! Good luck :)

  40. Judy says:

    Oh, I’m mushy too!

We recently lost our 13-year old Shih Tzu, and I am still unbelievably sad over it. “Hershey” was absolutely the best dog I’ve ever had (and trust me, I’ve had every breed both big and little). We got here as a puppy.

    Here are here best traits:
    1. She never barked (when she was a puppy, I thought her barker was broke!)
    2. She was playful her entire life and until the day she passed. They are known to be a very playful breed. If there’s no one home to throw the ball, they will play with their toys and entertain themselves.
    3. She was unbelievably lovable (even after being scolded, she would wag her tail and give kisses)
    4. She was funny. Such a big personality for a little dog.
    5. She didn’t shed (however, she did require regular professional grooming). We kept her coat short and the eyelashes long.
    6. She slept in a crate.
    7. She was easy to train.
    8. She loved to cuddle.
    9. She loved my kids.
    10. She followed me everywhere.

This was a hard post to write, I really miss her. If your family is blessed to have a Shih Tzu to love and care for, the rewards will be many.

    Please, Santa, grant Porter’s wish.

  41. Alicia says:

Love love love this. Such a sweet boy you have.

  42. Heidi Rizley says:

    You are toast!!!

  43. Wendy Orme says:

    Oh, how sweet!

  44. Rowie says:

What a lovely big brother he is

I especially love the spelling mistakes makes me much happyer:-)

  45. Heather V says:

That is probably the most adorable thing I’ve seen today. And I spent a good hour looking at baby pictures, so that’s saying something! Hope Santa’s ready for a puppy, because how could you resist that letter? :)

  46. Melanie A. says:

    Could he be any cuter!

  47. Sabrina S says:

“Like” (oh wait, this isn’t facebook?)

  48. carol haney says:

Shih Tzu’s are the best dogs EVER!!!! You need to get those kids a Shih Tzu! Might I suggest an adult dog from a shelter. You can get pure bred dogs if you look. And if you get an adult you won’t have to deal with the teething and tiny bladder. We got our girl when she was 3 years old. She’s never given us a smidge of trouble. Good luck “Santa”. :-)

  49. peggy says:

Love, Love, Love the pic of Santa and his beard.

If you have a wonderful place for the dog when you travel, go for it!

    peggys

  50. Jennifer Carreiro says:

Doesn’t it take your breath away. I love the little notes from my kids. His writing a note for his sister is the best – save it for when they’re fighting. So sweet…

  51. Stephanie says:

NOTHING is cuter than a child’s story with illustrations to match! I could look at that stuff all day! Sometimes, I shrink the ones my kids do at school down teeny tiny so I can fit them onto a scrapbook page! They are soooo fun to go back and look at ! :)

  52. Karen says:

Santa at the Mall told my kids last year that he can’t bring dogs on the sleigh because they scare Rudolph. They were satisfied by that answer.

  53. Melissa says:

Oh, man; I hate it when the kids play the Santa Card. How do you get out of THAT other than a ‘consolation prize’ and a carefully worded return letter?? LOL

  54. Andrea Beck says:

Oh my word! Precious beyond precious! I will also say that our shihtzu is a fabulous dog. Wonderful with children. Not a barker or yipper. Bellalina wears costumes. She has jammies from Target for each holiday (a steal at $5 a pair). She has a drawer with hairbows for her topknot. Seriously, we will always have shihtzus. Their temperment is phenomenal. Just like a little baby. The fun you will have not only on Christmas but for years to come is priceless. :)

  55. AND A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY TO YOU BECKY……We have a wonderful daughter!! :-) We hope you have a wonderful day……..

  56. ninarsku says:

that is just too cute… <3<3<3

  57. Sandra says:

I think the time has come Becky.

  58. Ali says:

Oh Becky….! Are you going to follow through? We are all on tenterhooks waiting to see!! Hey, I grew up with dogs, loved them to bits, but there’s no way I want one now!! LOL. So we have a cat, and even he gets me all mad with his fur and the fact he stays out all night howling! Anyway, happy birthday my dear! The same day as my dear darling who is now 9 years old. Where did the last 5 years go??

  59. Jenny from Germany says:

    Priceless!!

  60. Lisa A. A. says:

A little over a year ago, I caved on the puppy desire of my kids. We adopted a shih tzu from a rescue center. Then, 3 days later, we went back for his brother. Life has never been the same! They drive me nuts, but, I’ll admit very quietly, I love the little trouble makers!

  61. Janie says:

Oh my word, this is exactly what my kids did too. One day they were feverishly making “homemade” cards and when they were all done, they bundled up and when I asked where they were going…they said, “Just going to sell these Christmas cards so we can buy a dog.” They were also on the phone once, calling everyone listed in my phone book…asking if they would like to order Christmas cookies that would be hand made by them. (we eventually caved in and got a dog that May)

  62. Melissa de Freitas says:

Move over and make room for me in that puddle!!!

  63. kat-in-texas says:

Ha Ha!!! Get them a dog already!!! Love it!!!

  64. Lisa says:

Absolutely priceless! I think you should put Porter’s artwork up for auction! My twin’s never asked for a dog but their father thought they should have one. Last New Year’s Eve we picked out a yellow lab and named her Leah. When we went to pick up Leah, her sister was the only puppy left. I caved and we took “Sophie” home also. They are eatting the house and driving me crazy but I love them to death! Our cat is still hissing & spitting at them and lives in the basement now! Only one word of advise – it’s just like having a baby in the house again but you will love “her” to pieces.

  65. CArol says:

So cute! That’s a keeper for sure. We have a shih tzu/poodle, also known as a shih poo A great dog, so gentle and cute and loyal, always at my feet. Great with kids too. He’s 2 soon, never has done a mean thing to anyone. And the bonus, he doesn’t shed!

  66. Sarah Corrigan says:

OH.MY.WORD. That is absolutely PRECIOUS!! 1) That he’s thinking of his sister, 2) that they will still like Santa even if he doesn’t get them the dog!! Frame that baby and keep it up year round. :)

    Sarah

  67. Lori Hunsaker says:

Happy Birthday Becky!! I work for Travis Williams and he told me today was your birthday. I am a big fan of yours and love to read your blog (and buy your books – ha!) Hope you have a great birthday. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent with all of us!

  68. Heiseysis says:

Too absolutely cute!!! And happy birthday to you!

  69. Kendra says:

    Happy Birthday!

I hope Santa brings them a dog! I was not a “dog person” until we got our cocker/springer spaniel, Millie. We have had MANY dogs and breeds. One was all my husbands & I tolerated him. The others – I would rather just leave at a memory. I always thought I would appreciate other peoples dogs until we found Millie.

  70. Carolyn Ray says:

    Hi Becky

I just wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday!! I believe it’s today (the 21st) I remember from last year and it’s the same as my husband’s!! Hope you had a great day!!

  71. Camie says:

I think you better get ready for a dog – how can you not :)

  72. Jane Pearce says:

How cute is that? melted my heart too.
Happy Birthday and I hope you have/had a wonderful day. It is the 22nd here in Australia so I am thinking that it is still the 21st in USA.

  73. Suzanne B says:

Dear Becky: I see a ShihTzu in your future! :)

  74. Sue says:

That is such a cute letter and so heartfelt! Come on Santa!

  75. Dana says:

I’m just sayin’… those are the best breed in the whole world. Our “Daisy” has become a “member” of the family, and my dog-hating husband has a new best friend (he absolutely loves her! She has won our hearts, and my kids have treated her like a best friend, a toy, an accessory, a sister, and sometimes a dog– and she goes along with it all as patient and loving and cheerful as can be! AND she doesn’t shed!

  76. CarolineD says:

Looking forward to posts, pictures and pages of your new puppy!
    mwuhahahaha, sucka.
(Said with loving empathy, because I too have kids…and they have a dog…)

Can we have a “Name Claire and Porter’s Puppy” contest?

  77. Sheri B says:

Genuine laughter here! That is adorable. Porter has great penmanship, too! Thanks for sharing, kiddos bring such joy don’t they? : )

  78. Robynn says:

Oh cute! Your kids are SO getting a dog for Christmas! Are you going to wrap it up or have it lick them awake on Christmas morning? Better start planning now!

  79. CHERYL says:

PRICELESS!!! FRAME THIS ONE FOR FUTURE DAYS….

  80. Trina H says:

Porter is just so priceless. You must be exceptionally proud of him.
