san francisco

David and I just spent a few days in the San Francisco area. A bit dreary and rainy for part of the time (matched how I felt … been under the weather). But there was also some really lovely sunshine. All of it together felt very … Fall. I looove Fall.

Speaking of an airplane view, this was my reading material for the flight there. If  you missed it before I’ll say it again, I really like Seeing the Everyday magazine. Like — so, so much. I appreciate how it focuses on relationships and how little moments mean so much and how it uplifts the reader to be a better contributor to a happy, rich family life.

Anyway … back to San Francisco.

If you happen to be in the area, and if you happen to like Indian cuisine … we recommend Little Delhi on Eddy St. So delicious! And easily the best naan we’ve ever had. Ever.

We rented a tandem bike and ventured off for a couple hours. I had to get over the feeling of not being in control of the bike (not a natural feeling). Once I fully trusted David, who was in front and really controlled the steering and pedaling … it was actually a lot of fun.

We biked on the Golden Gate bridge and enjoyed incredible views and beautiful weather.

Being on the back of the bike also meant I could easily juggle the point & shoot camera with one hand. (No dSLR for this trip.) And that resulted in a self portrait. On the back of a tandem bike. Yeeee-haw! I’m such a dork.

San Fran is absolutely one of my most favorite cities! LOVE it! Although I’ve never ridden a bike in the city, but would love to do so.

We rented a tandem one time in Glenwood Springs to ride the 18 mi canyon. We feel in love with it, and later that summer drove back up there and bought the bike. We’ve had a lot of fun on that bike together. We even rode the MS150 bike race on it. BTW, the person on the back is officially called the “stoker” and you must have complete trust in your “Captain.” I, too, have lots of pictures from the backseat, and everyone thinks that’s rather humorous. People yell out, “hey, she’s not pedaling!”

  10. What fun! So glad you had awesome weather for your bike ride!!

Great pictures… and looks like it was a great vacay! Love your self-portrait… nice to see you put yourself in there too. :)

An unrelated question: Do you keep ALL of your photos on your imac ALL the time or do you upload them to another source and ever delete them off of your hard drive? I know you back them up to something, but do you really keep all of your pictures on your imac? Curious.

    I hope you see this!!

Becky, You are in my head. I took a picture of our car silouhette when traveling this weekend and I had just taken a picture looking down at my pregnant belly right before you posted the photography challenge of looking down. Great minds think alike ; )

A couple of random questions for you….
    1. Would you consider doing a twelve days of Christmas again?
    2. When can we expect to hear news about the 2011 Project Life?

  25. Amy C says:

I think your self portrait is great! You are very good at taking those, you can hardly tell you took it, and it’s even a vertical picture! Good Job! :)

    Becky,
Thank you so much for sharing your pictures, your family and what you do. I wish we lived closer. Back in July/Aug I went and visited my daughter (1 of my 4 children) down in Texas for 3 weeks. She started giving me weird looks at the end of the 1st week when I brought up things like “Becky” did this and “Becky” did that? She could not remember anyone from Michigan that I knew was Becky and finally had to ask. I told her all about you. Your great ideas for scrapbooking, your blog, your spray painting, your photography, your decorating ideas and so much more. Nope, I did not stop bringing up your name on my trip. :O) She has now checked out your blog/web site and I think she is almost as hooked as I am.
    Thank you!

Becky, tandem bike riding is alot of fun! Once you are comfy with all the issues and the mechanics. I believe that tandem bike riding can be a metaphor of marriage/relationships. My hubby and I got one in ’97 and it has been a marriage savor. I urge all my brave bike-riding able friends and couples to try riding ours or to do what you and your husband did. You should give yourself credit for sticking with it – busy streets and all. It does take trust to sit and ride in the back. Tandem bikeriding can be an equalizer for couples who have different athletic abilities. No biker way up ahead getting annoyed at the slower one behind. Plus, all the talking and chatting you can do – no one can leave the room or look at the computer/tv! Like you, I take photos from the seat in the back. I don’t think you are a dork at all! Keep exploring. I would love to hear more about what you think about tandem bikeriding, etc.
