Got another giveaway for you, for those of you weekend readers.

One reader will win a seat in Photo Preserves, taught by Laura Vanderbeek. This is a class to teach you how to digitize, restore, and display your old photos. Great idea, as I think a lot of us could use some guidance in this department. The class runs March 31 – April 13. Leave your name, a general idea of where you live, and maybe an idea of what your collection of old photos looks like right now. This is open to international readers as well (nothing to ship).  : )

A randomly selected winner will be announced on Monday.

I have inherited hundreds of old photos from my great grandparents dating back to as early as 1901. Some of them were even developed in my grandma’s home darkroom. They are currently stored in an accordian file folder.

  2. Donna G. says:

I live in Tennessee. In the South, we’re all about collecting photos of our relatives. We’re not as big on labeling the photos (as to who’s who), but I’ve got a large collection of old photos, and no idea what to do with them.

I just lost the last of my grandparents last summer and as time passes, I find myself holding onto the mounds of photos that are left behind. I have aspirations of digitizing these photos and memorabilia so I can share with the family as well as preserve for years to come. Thanks for the opportunity!

  4. Marty Ward says:

I am just completing a winter long project of turning my newly married sons old bedroom into my photo/memorabilia room. I am the keeper of all of my Mom and Dads family photos from their childhoods and before, my childhood photos, my mom was an avid photo taker and memory keeper as well, and I have probably 25 of her albums of day to day photos from the 1980′s-1990′s plus my children’s (pre-digital) photos not to mention all of the digital photos from recent years. Luckily this is a passion of mine. I am in the “getting organized” faze. I would love to win the Photo Preserves class taught by Laura Vanderbeek. I can use her guidance and expertise in this endeavor! Thanks for the chance to win Becky! P.S. I am starting my Project Life album this weekend as well.

  15. junae9 says:

I have my grandmother’s three albums that I have been fooling around with, trying to figure out how to preserve and share them with all of the other grandchildren. This would be extremely useful and make my time more productive rather than spinning wheels and guessing how to repair these old photos. I’m in Maryland.

  16. MaryAnn Kearns says:

All of my childhood photos, and my husband’s childhood photos, are in boxes in storage, waiting for me to do “something” with them – rather than just placing them in “normal” photo albums, I was thinking of scanning them, and putting them in digital Project Life albums. But I would love some other ideas, before I get started on the project.

  25. Pat says:

I’m Pat in North Carolina. My photos are a mix bag of the past 50 years and some beyond. It is mind boggling to attempt any type of scraprabook, but there are some that I would like to display some way or some how. Any new fresh ideas would be just might be the key to getting something done.

    Hi Becky,

I live outside of Philadelphia, PA & I have a huge collection of old photos from my grandmother. I am working on sorting them & am going to use a lot of the ones of my dad’s childhood in an album about his growing up years (in the format of the Cathy Z. All About Me album). The rest, is yet to be determined. I would love some hints & tips on organizing, storing & using them. Thanks for the great giveaway!!!

I just got all of my grandmother’s pictures in boxes and old (sticky) albums. They need help.

  126. Erika says:

Erika from Eastern Shore of Maryland. My old photos are in giant cardboard boxes, distributed between my house, mom’s and in-laws. Some are categorized by decade. It’s a daunting task to arrange all of them in some order, so joining others who are doing the same thing would be GREAT!

  129. Leanne W says:

I would love to take part in this class. I am 70 and have several photos of my grandparents, greatgrandparents and also one of my great great grandfather. How amazing is that! I love to see my grandparents when they were young, and have a beautiful pair of photos taken of them individually just prior to their marriage in 1914. The one that fascinates me the most is of my grandfather with all his siblings (when he would be about 8 years old) and his parents. Just love the old photos! I have them in boxes having taken them out of the magnetic albums when I was given them years ago.

I spent last year collecting memorabilia and pictures from each of our boys’ great-grandparents in hopes of starting albums to document each of their lives…what a blessing it will be for our children to look through these and read about their great-grandparents’ everyday moments after they are no longer with us here on this earth. After completing the great-grandparents books, I would like to document the grandparents’ lives. Right now, all of the pictures and memorabilia are stored in boxes and envelopes just waiting for the next step! The Photo Preserves class would be amazing to help me in continuing this process as well as future ones that involve preserving our family history and precious memories!!!

  132. Kerri says:

Oh, how timely! I just took all of my husbands photos out of their hostile environment (sticky albums) and put them in the Turquoise addition of the Project Life Kit. They look amazing in their new home. I want to do the same with all of my childhood photos using the Amber album. What keepsakes these will be for generations to come. Many of these old photos are in need of repair. Would love to take the Photo Preserves class and get the proper guidance.

My old photos are put in ghetto scrapbooks (no cute stickers or die cuts, just taped to pieces of paper) that I did back in high school. At least they’re not in those glue pages from the 70′s that are not acid-free. I would love to learn about how to digitize old photos for my parents. They have drawers and drawers of old photos that are just sitting and collecting dust. This would be a great gift I could do for them.

The photos I have in boxes are the ones from my childhood and some from my husbands childhood. I know there are more, I would just have to figure out where they are. I am “up to date” with our married life, which is always refreshing.

  138. Fiona says:

    Hi from Christchurch, New Zealand.

Having survived two big earthquakes, my biggest worry is the fact that I have inherited all the family photos from two sides of my family and how close we have come to losing these. All ideas welcome as to what to do with the boxes of photos and so would love to win a place in this class.

  139. Quinna says:

  142. Roberta D says:

    Roberta from Portland, Oregon
Love the idea of being able to restore the pictures I’ve had handed down from past generations. I’ve been doing genealogy research for the past couple of years and it is my goal to create and album/book for my siblings and my children. The photos will really bring their stories to life but the photo’s I’ve inherited need a lot of TLC.

  143. Jennifer says:

My father recently passed away and my sister has been going through all his photos. She is sending me some of those as well as his yearbooks. This class would be so great!

  144. Shelagh says:

I would love to win this! I’m from New Jersey and I have lots of photos from my parents who are both passed away. The photos are in various forms and mostly in shoeboxes however, some are in the old cling type albums and some are in frames. a few of the photos date back to 1920 or so with a few being from my father’s military days in WWII so I would love to digitize them all to preserve them but most of all to share all of the wonderful photos with my siblings.

  145. Great give-away! My next to-do project is to tackle all the pictures from my childhood. My mom wasn’t much of a scrapbooker, but she saved everything. I’d love to dive into this, and create something memorable for my brother. Oh, and myself! ;) I know my kids would love to see all the pictures and memories from when “mommy” was a baby. :)

  146. Mich says:

This class would be perfect for me. Between my husband and I, we are down to 1 parent left. When I looked through all the photos, I noticed many have lost the facial details due to aging. How wonderful it would be to restore this, especially those pics of our childhood. Someone here posted using the PL books to put there childhood pics which I think is a wonderful idea! I have always taken photos but they are in all sorts of books, including those horrible magnetic ones. When my youngest starts driving, that may be a project I’ll have to undertake.

I love the fact that I have a mother in law who is 96 and healthy enough to tell me the story of her life and her parents life as well as their parents. When I found all these pictures in my home, I decided that I will take a Saturday and have her tell me about every person in every picture and tell me some stories about life from those pictures and to journal them. Now this is truly a blessing and a miracle all in one.

  157. Christina A. says:

I just completed a wall of old photos hung gallery style in my guest bedroom. Most of the pics are black and white but 2 are hand tinted old pics. One is of my grandparents and one of my husband’s mom’s high school graduation. I love it. I framed them all in black frames and pulled them all together by adding a silhouette of my daughter and a black and white of my wedding photos. I love the end result which gets me to the point of old photos. During the hunt for all these pics, I have found many old pics that are faded, torn or have spots on them. I would love to learn how to restore these photos so that my family’s legacy will continue through my child.

Hi, all my precious old family photographs are packed away in a cupboard and not looked at very often. Just yesterday I looked at the bare wall in our hallway screaming out for these photographs to be framed and displayed.
