Who: Porter’s 2nd grade class
Destination: The Children’s Museum of Phoenix. I highly recommend it to locals & visitors.
Highlight: I’m pretty sure this was the happiest group of 8-year-olds on the planet for a few hours. Watching them play and learn and interact and enjoy this place was pure delight.
Survival: Um. Being squished between 2 boys on the bus, even though there was plenty of room to spread out? And it was 95 degrees? Not my most favorite thing. But I’m soaking in this brief stage of still being a “cool mom” before I’m no longer viewed as cool in any way. Plus — the 3 of us worked well together as we played Words With Friends. We exercised our brains and had fun.
Inspired by: This place is full of creativity. Just look at what they’ve done with CDs and utensils and shoes! And pool noodles! A whole forest of noodles for the kids to run through? They couldn’t get enough.

For those of you who still have questions about the digital Project Life, tomorrow’s post will cover some digital Q&A based on your comments/questions in recent posts. This has been a particularly busy week of nearly non-stop, go-go-go, hardly-any-time-at-the-computer. Please know I haven’t forgotten about you. Thank you for remembering that while I certainly work hard on my business/blog/products … I also work hard as a mother and in service to my church and community.

Our school just went there this year and kids loved it. I wish I had known about it earlier.
Kids always like to sit 3 to a seat, even if there are lots of open seats. My students don’t seem to understand that my “seat” is bigger than theirs! Maybe that is a hidden compliment from them to me.
Love this place we are going there in two weeks with my son’s preschool and I’m very excited
Very “Cool”! You and the museum. I’m hoping my kids will look back someday are remember that I used to be cool like that;). We are currently in the I’m tolerating you but just don’t open your mouth in front of my friends stage. LOL!
My kids once got lost in the “Noodle Forrest” so they’re not to keen on that one, but they love the grocery store and kitchen. What did you think of the new Climber thing?? We haven’t been since they opened it up.
We looooove the museum!! Best membership I’ve ever bought…along with the zoo. The toddler room is also great for the younger ones.
WOW – it looks like a great place to visit. Too bad we live on the other side of the country. You captured some great pictures. I love WWF … if you ever need someone else to play, my user name is @mom2nick.
Have a great weekend.
Wow…that looks like SO much fun…imagine being a kid:) And yes PLEASE enjoy being the “cool” Mom cuz YEP your days are numbered for a LONG time. Mine are 17 yrs. 20 yrs. and 23yrs. And at this point I am not back to being the cool Mom as of yet…still the nagging Mom. YES they need nagged at…at times anyway…lol I’m thinking mid twenties or so then they will like/respect me a bit more then. Enjoy!!!
Great photos! Gave me some great ideas…
And looking forward to your digital PL post…I just started a project on there this week, so I could use any help I can get!
LOVE those first 2 pictures. I am trying really hard to come up with interesting angles for my pics…you are an inspiration. BTW, that looks like an AMAZING museum! : )
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that place, it is the best! My kids always want to go. Sometimes we even brave the crowds on First Fridays so we can go for free. I always volunteer to go on my kids field trips. There is nothing quite like seeing them in their element. Plus being the cool mom is fun too
!
So addicted to words with friends! Lol. Love the school bus photo. I could smell those leather seats!
Love that type of art, the one that looks so cool and you’re not sure what it’ss made of and then as you get closer you realize that they are ordinary things.
Looks like fun. Would love to go to that part of Arizona again. Its been since I was 8 years old, been 22 years!! Yikes!
Whats your user name? I love that game!!
But I’m soaking in this brief stage of still being a “cool mom” before I’m no longer viewed as cool in any way.
^^^ Ditto.
Hey Becky I was close to you today I am visiting town and was in a museum in Phoenix, but not the same one! We went to the MUsic Instrument Muesum! I highly recommend!
I have a military friend helping with clean up in the tsunami zone in Japan. As the volunteers find photos in the rubble they take them to be washed, dried and put in a basket where survivors can come and collect them. If you contact me, I can put you in touch with my friend who took some amazing, heartwrenching photos of this process. I thought of you the minute I saw them! Not sure how to get in touch with you so I’m leaving a comment here ~ sorry to write something here that doesn’t have to do with the field trip!
Oh what a GREAT museum! It reminds me of one in St Louis.
With family in St Louis, we’ve made plenty of trips there over the years. The agenda MUST include a full day spent at the Children’s Museum. What a misnomer! The last time we went, the kids were almost 23, 17 and 17. My DH and I are “o-l-d”. Once again, we arrived within an hour of the place opening and left less than 30 mins before it closed.
Absolutely love places that repurpose what others consider trash!
You may remain a cool mom longer than you think. My kids requested that I don’t talk to their friends when there are lots of people – like the entire sports team – around. Other than that, they think I’m cool.
The angles of the pictures you took are awesome! You have now given me A LOT of ideas for the next field trip I get to go on. Don’t worry about Porter not wanting you to go on many more – my daughter is in 7th grade and actually asked me the other day if I would go on her IMAX field trip in 2 weeks!
I LOVE field trips with my kids! So far, they still love me to come and makes me so happy! I so wish we could ride the bus–some school policy we have to drive behind and follow the buses when we chaperone. Looks like a fun museam!
Thank you for posting this. I am about to go on a field trip with my God-daughter and this gave me some ideas on photos
I love that you fearlessly take pictures of things everywhere, even in stores. I’m hesitant to do that because I think I’ll get reprimanded, but I love the story it can tell. Do you ever get hassled when taking out your camera? Are there any picture shooting etiquette pointers you can share? I bet there are other timid picture takers out there who could benefit from a few confidence boosting do’s and don’ts. Thanks for the constant inspiration, you’ve literally changed the way I record my story.
