scenic panorama

Our little family spent all of last week in the northwest. Going on an Alaskan cruise has been on our bucket list for quite a number of years and we finally did it. Loved it so much. And now we’re getting back into the groove of life. I haven’t even uploaded pictures from the dSLR yet. But I do have a handful of pictures taken on my iPhone that are pretty nifty and definitely worth sharing.

Today is the ” visual yumminess” I spoke of earlier. I’m sharing some panoramic views from our travels. These were all created the same way:

1. Shot with my iPhone

2. Stitched together with AutoStitch app

3. Enhanced (color, border, etc.) with Camera+ app

As you can tell, I have so much fun taking pictures on my iPhone, just like many of you. It’s for sure one of my absolute favorite toys. Actually, it’s more than that. As a documenter of life, I consider it an essential accessory in my world.

AutoStitch, Camera+, and Instagram are my top 3 favorite photography apps at the moment. Enough babbling. On to the visuals.

……….

Seattle. As seen from the Space Needle.

……….

Mendenhall Glacier. Juneau, Alaska.

……….

Glacier Bay.

……….

Near Skagway, Alaska? Maybe? I can’t remember, to be honest.

……….

Misty Fjords.

……….

As seen from our balcony on the cruise ship.

This last picture was shot around 10 pm. Being that far north, the sun sets very, very late. Dusk is unbelievably gorgeous in Alaska. All of what we saw of Alaska is just gorgeous. Like – really, completely, totally gorgeous. We are so grateful for the opportunity to see that beautiful corner in this gigantic world.

I will likely share more pictures from our trip. I’ll definitely be posting some on facebook + twitter for a little while.

Becky, I could not agree more. Love my iPhone for taking pics and I love Alaska (live there). We have wonderful photo opportunities in our gorgeous summer months. Look what I found that I’m contemplating buying for my iPhone to make it even more useful for my everyday pictures:

Do you and your brother have any ideas/thoughts on these? I’m not affiliated with them in any way, just stumbled across them and thought hmm, could these make my iPhone even MORE useable for me as an everyday camera to document my families life?

LOVE them! My hubby and I are going to Alaska next month! This is making me more so excited than I was before. (Plus, my sis moved to Anchorage a year ago and I haven’t seen her since, so I’m really excited about that too!) Thanks for sharing your visual goodies!

Love your photos Becky. Alaska is an amazing place. Glad you were able to experince it. Our family lived on Kodiak Island for 7 yrs. It was the best place to raise kids and has the best fishing according to my husband who has fished all over AK. Infact I just got back from a 2 week trip. We took the Inside Passage on the ferry from Bellingham. It was a gorgeous ride. Then we drove from Skagway to Anchorage where I took a plane back to WA and my husband is still there fishing. I don’t know if he will come back with all the fishing there and now he is retired. :)

Awesome pictures. I remember you talking about the AutoStitch app but couldn’t remember the name of it. Thanks for sharing. How do you print panoramic pictures like that? Are there online print stores that can print custom sized panoramic shots for a reasonable price? I don’t even have Photoshop on my computer; I use Picassa (free program) to print my pictures usually but I’m limited to the standard photo size options. :(

Stunning pictures with your iphone! It is a beautiful state. A cruise ship is a great way to see many different areas (did that a few years ago). Can’t wait to see more pics!!

Alaska is on my bucket list as well. Thank you for making the experience move a couple of spots up on the list with these pictures…..right under the grand canyon and Paris. Next week we are checking off one on our list – Hotel Colorado, White Water Rafting with our six year old and zip lining across the Colorado River! I’ll download the apps you suggested and see what I can come up with. Thanks for always and endlessly inspiring me.

  23. Erin Long says:

Beautiful pictures! Do they live only digitally? How else do you use them outside of the blog? My husband is going to love my request for some new apps :)

  24. borcherding says:

freakin’ AWESOME pictures!! I just got an iphone and have downloaded two of those apps but have no idea how to use them! LOL! Must find the time to figure it all out!! Thanks Becky!!

  25. Raylene says:

Alaska IS gorgeous! We travelled it by motorcycle in 2008 and will be returning next summer! I live next door to the Rocky Mountains, but Alaska has something special . . . can’t put my finger on it exactly . . . but the nearest I can figure is, you travel the highway and you feel like you could reach out and touch the glaciers, the mountains!! The people are also wonderful! So down home and interesting! Not to mention the food is all homemade: not unusual to enter a cafe and see bread rising in the kitchen! A truly unique place on earth! LOVE IT!

  26. Sabrina says:

What amazing photos you captured!! We LOVED the Alaska cruise as well and I have been blessed to have gone twice. I love the apps you shared- you captured breathtaking photos!!

I downloaded autostitch on your recommendation and it totally rocks. I loaded DSLR photos into my ipod (no iphone yet, my contract is up for renewal after the i5 comes out so I am soooo looking forward to trading in the samsung) and stitched together photos that were giving me trouble in cs5. Thanks for the suggestion
