project life update + your questions

I first wanted to make sure that you are aware of some exciting news: Project Life and our new scrapbooking products coming in October are now available for pre-order for customers OUTSIDE the U.S.

Australian + New Zealand customers go HERE.

Canadian customers go HERE. (And be sure to check out Tammy’s blog post today.)

U.S. + European customers: Because our product is fulfilled via Amazon, the inventory has to actually be in stock before sales can happen, so pre-orders are not an option for U.S. and Europe – sorry.

All other countries go HERE.

*** If you are considering pre-ordering, I strongly encourage you ACT NOW. Our international distributors/stockists do their very best to determine how much inventory they’re going to need, and that really depends on your pre-orders. If you do not pre-order, and they sell out faster than you get a chance to order … well, let’s just prevent that from being an issue. Go now. Reserve anything and everything you want so you don’t miss out.

…..

It’s been a while since we’ve done some Q+A action around here. I will often see questions flying around on facebook + twitter + in the comments here on my blog. Obviously I can’t keep track of it all, let alone address every question. So sometimes I just want to check in with you, my readers, and ask … What’s on your mind?

What questions do you have that I might be able to answer? Could be about our products … or not. Could be technology-related, and if it is — I’ll let my techie brother Kevin address those, because he’s truly the expert in that category. Could be something totally random. Whatever it is, we will do our best to answer some of your questions.

…..

Before I go, THIS JUST IN. I literally just got some pictures from the progress of the production and thought I’d pass along a snapshot of a few of the Core Kits that are being prepared for shrink-wrap at the moment. We’re getting closer + closer folks!

Hi Becky! I simply cannot wait for the new products to be in stock on Amazon; I’m a HUGE fan of all the PL stuff!

I use project life for our “family album”, but I still do some more detailed scrapbooks for my 2 children. In the past I know you’ve done family albums + albums for your children. Now that you use digital Project Life, do you still do individual albums for your children or have you converted 100% to the PL format, even for the kiddos?

Thanks again for creating such fabulous products!

This past year we went on two big trips, to Africa and Germany. In trying to capture the sights and sounds I took a few short videos. The videos are not that great, but I would love to be able to capture the sounds in some way to put in my scrapbooks. Some kind of sound button to push on a page so I could hear the church bells ringing in the square or the sound of the horse drawn carriages on the cobblestone streets. Is there any way that you know of to do this? Thanks for all you do!!

    • Sarah Giles says:

      Hi Carmen,

I’ve never used it myself, but this is one product designed for putting sound in scrapbooks: http://www.picturethatsound.com/products. If you Google ‘sound’ and ‘scrapbook’ there are several types to choose from. I’d like to give one a try too, so I’d be interested to hear others’ reviews!

      Hope that helps. :)

      • Sue Thornton says:

I tried a product called Speaking Up that records for 30 seconds. I think I bought it at a Stamping Up party or one of those. I used it for my grandson’s 3rd year album and it was fantastic. So I ordered two more from the company online and they were horrible. All scratchy and cutting out. Like an idiot I tried one more – still just as bad. I kept writing to the company and finally got a reply that they would get back to me as they were having some issues with the company in China where they get them from. Well, of course, they never got back to me despite my repeated requests. So I am out the cost of three crummy ones I can’t use. But my first one was great. So for whatever that’s worth. Here is a link to what it was. http://store.scrapbook.com/te-ttrsu001.html

Maybe I will try that Picture That Sound one someday.

        • Rosa says:

I had some from many, many years back. I had used one to record my son at a year old saying “I love you, mama”. It was so great and it still works. So, I ordered more and they don’t work/scratchy/cutting out, etc. perhaps they need new batteries? I can’t remember the name of the company, but I don’t think it’s either of the ones mentioned above.

          • Rosa says:

The old ones I had were by Darice. I wouldn’t buy them again. Only the one that I used worked… the rest were duds. I’d be interested to find out if there are others that work much better.

  3. Melissa says:

I have a question for either Becky or Kevin, is a way to retrieve a photo from a memory card that was deleted by mistake??

    • Carol says:

Melissa – I feel your pain; I’ve been there. And I have successfully undeleted the deleted photos…it CAN be done!

First, do not take any more photos on that chip. Then google retrieving deleted photos and grab one of the many free shareware programs out there. Install the program and point it to the drive where your camera card is located. Then let it do its thing…

I’m sure Kevin or Becky may have more advice about a specific program they like/use, but I wanted to respond immediately and at least tell you to not use that card…

  4. I have 2 questions:
    1. After viewing the previous post about the products, are there going to be no decorated dividers? and only the clear dividers with labels. If so, do you have any tips for decorating the dividers? (P.S. I will absolutely miss the decorated dividers!)

    2. Will we be getting a preview of the new kits before the old core kits go on sale?

I would also love to see more of the submissions from the Back to Basics contest, the entries you posted were SO inspiring!

  5. Randi Kraus says:

I’ve got a digital photo organization question! Now that I have 2 kids (we welcomed another girl in June!), I’m curious how you organize all your digital photos on your computer? I have organized chronologically in the past with one folder for my daughter and then by month. Since I have a computer program (Windows Live Photo Gallery) that allows me to add tags to photos, I can always pull up events through the tags. But with 2 kids, I wasn’t sure if I should just continue to organize the same way and have a mix of pictures of both kids within each month (with a tag for ‘sisters’ instead of duplicating photos into a separate folder for those pictures that they are both in). Thanks for any ideas!!

  6. Sheri Thornton says:

Okay, gotta a question. Quite often I sit down to scrapbook, or I even just think about starting another project or finishing an existing one (so, so many), and I start to freak out. I’ll even start to cry. It’s like I get so overwhelmed with wanting to make something nice for the future that I’m paralyzed by totally screwing it up. Now, I’m not a perfectionist, although after reading what I just said, it sounds like it. But really, I just want something nice, that I did, that preserves my family’s history. And yes, I HAVE heard of project life. I even have the two most recent kits—both of them! I’m terrified to open them. I know it sounds absolutely insane. I just want to know if anyone, or even you–the queen of all things absolutely cool and collected and inspired—has any suggestions to how to work through something like this?

    Thanks for your inspiration:)

    • Sarah Giacoman says:

      Sheri,
I used to scrapbook only the tradional way..I did one album for the family and one for each child..so at times I was doing 2-3 LOs that were exactly the same so the kids would always have something special. I am a bit of a perfectionist and it would take me hours to complete my LOs (I totally pre-planned the LO and ordered photos accordingly) . I thought when I started PL in 2009 that I would still be able to do traditional LOs. In 2010 I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do the PL again, but when I looked back at all the photos and journalling I was so surprised about how much I had forgotten. I had not done any traditional scrapbooking that year but was OK with it since I had captured the little (and sometimes big) things that I would probably never had gotten around to with traditional albums. The kids love looking at our PL albums. I love looking back at them probably more so than my traditional albums. With PL you capture so much more and you get to write down all your thoughts about that particular moment just after it happens. Something I don’t think most of us get to do with a more traditional approach. I have done them for 3 years now and love them! I will often do a simple digital collage to add between my PL pages, I am usually only about a month “behind”. I try to journal often and just work on the photos a couple of hours each week, totally doable for most people. I still enjoy doing a small project now and again with paper, etc.. I do find I can be very creative with my PL album either with digital frames or elements on a 4×6 or an 8×10 collage.

All I can say is just open them and start today..you can always go back at “catch up” if you feel the need. What is important is writing down the moments that are happening now. I wish you luck!

      • Betty says:

Thanks for your question Sheri and thanyou for your answer Sarah, helping me sort out some ideas as a complete novice………not even, just getting started :-)

    • Vanessa B. says:

      Hi Sheri -

Thank you for making me feel like I am not the only one! I was struck with this kind of scrapping anxiety for a couple of years and literally got nothing done. I did Project 365 when it first came out and when I did it I gave myself permission (seriously, out loud gave myself permission!) to just do it, no over thinking, no going back to “fix” something because it was “wrong”. It was so liberating. Give yourself permission. Open up one of those kits, commit to taking a picture a day, or so many a week, whatever, and just pop those pics in there. Don’t look back, just keep going. At the end of the day, any scrapping or memory keeping is better than none. My son loves looking at that 365 album. He doesn’t know if I missed a day and took 2 the next. He doesn’t care if the patterns of the papers weren’t expertly matched. He loves the pics and the stories. Period. I think we need a support group!

      • Betty says:

Agree Vanessa, you made me laugh – PL anonymous, I like that philosophy :-)

      • Sheri Thornton says:

Thanks!!!! Sarah and Vanessa and Betty too. I think I actually do have to “give myself permission” to just do it. Or just to tell myself to get over myself and put something on paper. Or at least in the slot. I think that PL will probably help me get over that issue of staring at a blank page and having suddenly nothing in my head when just moments before it was full of ideas. And realize that my scrapbooks are NEVER going to put to the pressure of hanging in the Louvre or anything like unto it so I don’t need to stress out so much about making something amazing. Right now, just doing something would be AMAZING enough. Thanks for your thoughts…very helpful.

    Thank you for your answer.

I have a question about blogging. I notice on most blogs that the authors put their name or logo over the photo or somewhere on the photo, Just like your logo on your photos on your blog. How do you do that and is there a way that it can be done automatically when a photo is uploaded to your blog. I use blogger and I use Picasa and at this time I have to put my blog address on each photo in Picasa then upload to my blog. is there an easier way?

Also, a personnal question.. Do you have a routine you follow everyday & what time does your day begin?

  9. Christie says:

Just wondering if we can find out what the cost of these items will be on Amazon. Really excited to see the new designs also!

  10. Andrea Raponi says:

Hi Becky! I’m a 2 nd year Project Lifer (although I’m 2 months behind) and I love it! I know you have two different “styles” this year, when are we going to see what they look like? I’m dying to know. I have the turquoise edition now, just wondering what the other designs are going to loom like.
    Thanks, Andi

  11. Leslie Murphy says:

Do you still keep “traditional” scrapbooks for your children?

  12. emilee says:

i have a question about what you do to your photos as far as editing for project life. What exactly is your workflow? I feel like my photos stay on my computer because I am waiting to edit them (not necessarily with fancy, trendy actions- but just so they look good). I have used iphoto and photoshop. I like how your photos are cohesive making your albums look like they were meant to be together. I would love for you (or your brother) to share a basic step by step workflow that you use to manage and edit the tons of photos that we inevitably take! Thanks

  13. karen says:

    Hi Becky,

I LOVE your decorating style and would love to see more pics of your home decor or fall ideas. Also, I know you said you may do a blog about your picture monitors in your kitchen and would love to see that! Thanks for sharing all your great ideas!

One more, for you school yearbooks did you actually go in the first day of school and take shots or just go in sometime that month?

    ~Karen

  14. Lisa says:

I was just checking out the products (even though I live in USA) just to get an idea of prices and such. Are the “Project Life Scrapbook Dividers” included in the Core Kit, or do those have to be bought separately? Thanks! :)

  15. I have two questions, one for you and one for Kevin. :)

    1. (For Becky) I noticed on the Digital PL website, there is a significant discount if you pay ahead. I’ve seriously considered getting Digital PL for my daughter’s first year of school. For the amount of pages + details you get it’s an excellent price! My question is this: If I order and pre-pay (to get the discount), will I be able to wait for a year to print? Because the whole point of my order would be to use it for this school year.

    2. (For Kevin) Is there any way to run a .exe file on Mac if you don’t have Parallels or Bootcamp? I have a “Learn French” program I bought for my daughter last year (so I can’t return it, boo!) but it’s PC only and I don’t have either Parallels or Bootcamp.

    Thanks ya’ll! :)

    • Heather B says:

For #2 – Try CrossOver for Mac…. it’s ~$40, but it does NOT require Windows – it helps the Mac read the PC program. Doesn’t work for everything, but you can download a free trial & see or you can look up your software on their compatibility chart (if it’s not listed it may still work… if it’s listed & says it doesn’t work it probably won’t).

I use it for MSAccess & PC Quicken bc neither have suitable Mac substitutes. Good luck!

  16. Jacqueline R says:

I have a burning question that keeps me obsessively checking your blog….when are we going to see sneak peaks of the 2012 designs?? I can’t wait :) .

Also, could you tell me where you got the gorgeous blue subway tile in your kitchen. I have searched and searched without finding anything like it. Love it!

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to your products, Becky!

  17. HeatherC says:

Can you talk a little more about the childhood project we keep hearing about? I was excited when it was coming out this fall because my next baby is due at Christmas but now with it not coming until the first of next year I’m wondering if I should get something else. Can you please talk about what will be in it??? Thanks.

  18. Jamie says:

I am already having anxiety that Amazon will sell out before I can get online and order LOL! I am so super excited and I really think PL is so simple everyone should try and do some form it at least once for their family! My husband and children absolutely love it and all love to remind me to take more pics! Thank you for all your hard work. I think I am going to try and convince the women in my Ward to really give it a shot next year and start a group to keep everyone going!

    • I can ease your fears slightly about amazon! Last year, on Christmas eve eve :P I hit refresh like a madwoman until Project Life officially went on sale and I purchased at the first possible moment… the Project Life kit didn’t sell out until many months later =)

I really hope you are able to convince the people in your ward to do Project Life, it really is an amazing way to display memories and capture everyday memories. I am trying to convince some of my friends to try it, and they seem overwhelmed by the “Picture a day” concept. Most important, let them know this is casual. If you miss a day, you miss a day, you’re not being graded! LOL Do not sweat it, go a day at a time and enjoy!

  19. Heather B says:

Hey! I sent you & Ali this same question on twitter but haven’t heard so I’ll put it here to help you out. ;)

What do you do with your “extra”/empty/not-YET-filled page protectors? I have a handful of in-progress albums using them so I don’t just want to store in the album bc I’m not sure which one I will use them in. They are so floppy that just storing them like paper doesn’t work….. I was using an extra album, but I just started using it for my son’s school stuff this year…. wondering if I need to just buy another empty album of if you have a better method?

    Thanks!

  20. Julie says:

Hi, I was wondering if you are going to have 5×7 single vertical page protectors. That is such a great, easy size to use to highlight a picture but all I can find is horizontal.
    Thanks!

  21. Julie says:

Just curious if the school products will be similar to the Back to School kits you did for Creating Keepsakes kit of the month? Loved those!!!!

  22. Melody says:

TECHNICAL QUESTION: I would like to make a digital photo book using older photos. I have all the negatives, so I could get prints/enlargements made from the negatives and then scan them for use in the photo book. But, is there a better way? If you had old photos that you wanted to put into a pre-made digital photo book, how would you do it? Or, should I just have prints made from these old negatives and make a traditional scrapbook? I would like to enlarge some of these old photos but when I scan the small size prints, they are too grainy to enlarge in the digital photo books. I would love your opinion and help with this project!!! Thanks!

  23. Laurel says:

A question for Kevin–how can I back up my EHD to another EHD? Can I do an incremental backup? I’m on a mac. Yep, I’m a little bit paranoid about my digital files. I always enjoy Kevin’s techy posts! Yay for Apple :)

  24. Kate says:

    Hi there
    I have some questions please!

    1. Are there any ways of doing nice copies of traditional PL albums? I’d rather do traditional albums but the problem is that I need multiple copies and don’t know how to do that. (I don’t want to do digital PL).

    2. Can there be an actual kit, all inclusive, for the School Stuff, please??!! I’ve never done PL before so I don’t know what would be best to order to put together a school kit. I did your Sweet Baby kit, Becky, and loved that it was all there … Nice and easy for me! So, can there please be an option for a full School Kit, pretty please? ;)

    Thanks so much!

  25. Rachel says:

I live in Aus so I need to pre-order, which is fine it made it so much easier last year.

I little confused, when the new designs come out will they be available in a kit the same as previous years, or do I go and pre order the plastic pockets, dividers now?

    • KristinainOz says:

      Hi Rachel,

As I understand even the new designs in the kit will be without the plastic page protectors. I have just pre-ordered loads of page protectors in different styles and an Amber kit. I’m looking forward to the new designs too so will probably order one of the new design kits when they are available to pre-order. So yes if I were you I would order all the plastic pockets/protectors you need NOW. I also ordered the great plastic envelope sleeves too.

      Cheers Kind Regards
      Kristina

  26. April says:

    Becky,

Can we get a 3×4 punch with rounded corners? That would be awesome! I LOVE the journaling cards, but I’d also like to cut photos down and drop them in the smaller pouches and that would just save buckets and buckets of time! I haven’t been able to find one. Has this even been invented yet?

    Thanks!
    April

  27. K says:

I’m hoping to order PL for the first time this year. I have several years worth of photos waiting to be put into a scrapbook. However, I’m worried PL will sell out really quickly and I’ll have to wait another year for more products. Any hopes for keeping your products in stock year around?

Will a date stamp be for sale? What years will the date stamp include?

About the core kits — how much of each item (tile cards, journaling cards, etc.) will be in the core kits?

Also, I know a 3×4 punch has been mentioned — but I just wanted to say I think it would be a super idea and very helpful for doing PL.

    Looking forward to getting started!

  28. Maria H says:

    Hi Becky,

I am in my first year of Project Life (amber edition) and I am absolutely loving the fact that I am “up to date” (well, for this year anyway; I need to go back now and get the last five years done ! ) I absolutely love all your products and I have already pre-ordered all the new styles of page protectors for next year. It’s so exciting, I can’t wait for them to arrive :-)

I have three questions I would like answered; two easy ones for you and one not so easy one for your fantastic brother Kevin.

#1. I would love a 6 x 12 page protector with slip-in pockets for the 6 x 4 photos instead of just one big pocket. Will this style of protector be available for Project Life in the future?

#2. This is possibly a silly question that has probably already been answered somewhere on your website or on Facebook, but what does the “LLC” after your name mean?

#3. (for Kevin) I am having a few ext HD problems that I would like some help with. I am wanting to be able to read and write to my new ext HD, on both my PC and my iMac (running Snow Leopard). My old ext HD worked perfectly with both, just plug the cord in on either computer and away it went. That ext HD “died” and I now find that my iMac won’t write to my new ext HD which I think is formatted to NTFS. I don’t know too much about this sort of thing so I did a wee bit of online research and came across a product called NTFS for Mac® OS X 9.0 (Paragon Software). Is this the product I need or is there some other way around this problem ??? I am basically just wanting to use my ext HD for storage of files, mainly photos and the like, so they can be accessed on either computer. Also, when using my ext HD on my PC it won’t let me save directly onto it from within a programme (eg, Photoshop, Publisher or Word). It tells me the ext HD is full when it is actually no where near full. The only way I can save onto it is to copy and paste from within Windows Explorer. What on earth am I doing wrong? This new ext HD (a WD 1TB) seems to be doing everything it can to make my life difficult, and I don’t know how to fix it. Please help !!!

Many thanks Becky. Looking forward to hearing the answers to these questions.

      Maria,

Answer to #2 i think is Limited Liability Company, I too was curious and googled it. I stand to be corrected. :-)

When can we expect the prices for the US products to be posted or should we assume the “out of the US” prices will be the same as US prices?

  30. cloudy.ya says:

    Hi Becky,
    here are my ?’s

-could we please get some more info (sneak peaks) on the Childhood/School memories PL., & 2012 products before oct.

-what will we need for the Childhood/School PL. (page protectors) or will it be sold in a kit?

    thanks,

  31. Kristan says:

Hi Becky! I love PL…it’s my favorite way to document anything now. I’m totally hooked. Respectfully, my ? is….it seems like whenever a new product is expected out, it always ends up being much later than anticipated. Do you think this will always be the case? It is hard to plan for gift giving this way.

    Thank you so much!!!

    Kristan

  32. Noelle says:

Becky, I’ve been loving doing project life this year. It helped me stay focused on the important things when I was unemployed the first half of the year. My question….for PL 2012, if we want the new designs, should we order the core kit when it hits Amazon in October, and then buy the 2012 designed elements when they come out, or will there be a different core kit for those. I’m a little confused as to what I should be rushing to buy when?

I feel about as excited for the new PL as I did rushing home from school to see the Sears Christmas Wishbook the year the Cabbage Patch Kids first came out! (I was 10)

  33. jan says:

    Hi Becky
I’m interested in seeing/hearing about the changes you will be making to your kids personal scrapbooks this year.

  34. Melissa B. says:

    Hi Becky!

I’ve got your old school kit and I’m wondering if I should hang on to it or let it go. Would it mesh with the new one you’ve got coming out? Would really like to know how the school/childhood kit will be made up. I’m in the mood to start going through all my old school papers and photos and at least start organizing them. Can you give us any hints at all? :)

    Thanks!

    Melissa

      • Sara B says:

I have the 4 of your former school kits too and would love to be able to blend them with the new stuff somehow (because I have a feeling I’ll love elements of both kinds and I”ve already done through 4th grade for my oldest already!

        Sara

  35. Susan robinson says:

I was wondering will you have viewings of the new products earlier on?i want to see those so i know if i need to act on early sales of the core kits, or if I wanna wait and grab the new stuff!!

  36. I have an 8yr old who NEEDS to keep everything. I know it is associated with the fact that we move often. But it is so hard to keep everything :) I am seriously contemplating Project Life for her and would love to hear your thoughts on that?! I think it would work because she would see that she has an allocated space, so she will either need to take photos and store the memory or a snippet of a particular item, or ticket stub etc.

  37. Nicky Hurt says:

I like to go back and watch some of your older videos, especially the 12 Days of Christmas (I think it was 2009? Definitely before you changed servers). Is there any chance you’ll be re-hosting those videos? They can’t be watched as-is. I know it’s not a priority, but it would be nice. :)

  38. Sabrina says:

Hi. I am so happy you are doing this!! I would LOVE to know the following:

    1. Is Project Life the only type of scrapbooking you do now?? Do you do the same format for you children?

    2. What do you do with your more-than-one photo on a particular day?

    3. And just like several others mentioned I would LOVE LOVE some help and preparation on the childhood kit. I feel as thought my son has a good 20 pictures per day and/or 20 pictures per week and/or 5 stories to be told per week. Its a ton of photos!! So what are your tips on putting together a childhood album?

    THANKS!!

    • Re: question #2
I have purchased American Crafts 12×12 photo pocket pages. They will hold 12 pictures for the full but if I don’t have quite that many, I will cut it in half to hold 6 pictures, if I only have 3 or 4, then I will put pattern paper in the left over slots. There are definitely days that I can’t choose just 1 picture!

  39. Belinda Cleminson says:

Hi there just a quick question, I love camera + app on my iphone i use it all the time and get amazing photos thanks to you. Do you know if you can get camera+ to use to edit photos on the mac desk top i think i remember reading it somewhere but can not find where.

    Thanks

  41. Rosa says:

I have techy questions for Kevin.

    1. I have a 3.06 ghz intel core 2 duo imac (2008?) 1TB hard drive space, maxed out at 4gb ram. When running photoshop my computer sometimes slows down and actually freezes for a short time when trying to use the text. Should this be happening? Is there something I can do to make PS work more smoothly?

    2. I know you have recommended Drobo as an EHD for people with large photo libraries. How many photos and movies should 1 TB hd space be capable of holding without slowing down my imac down? WHEN do you transfer your iphoto library over to an EHD? I’m not sure how to keep separate libraries and not sure if I’m even making any sense!

    3. What is the easiest way to transfer my iphoto library off of my computer and onto EHD?
Would you recommend using library manager?

    3. I have half of 2011 photos, in iphoto, on my computer and the other half on my EHD, is there a way to combine the two so the iphoto libraries of 2011 are together?

    Becky:

I have the school kits that were released a few years ago. I was wondering if these will jive with the newer school kit coming out in 2012.

Could we get a little sneak-peek of the school kit, please? Maybe just a little crumb of something…? :)

  42. Megan says:

I ordered your baby kit that is still available on scrap and paper. Can you show us some of your layouts for Crew using the kit? I know you have a video on an old post, but when I try to watch it, it says unavailable.

    Hi Becky,

I am purchasing PL for the first time via the Australian pre order and can’t wait for the adventure to begin, however have a couple of questions.

    1) Should I be ordering all the varied photo/pocket pages from the current pre-order for Amber and Turquoise PL and for the new designs that are due or will that be a seperate ordering process altogether?

    2) I am scrapbooking for the first time and would love to do PL and some tradional scrapbooking but would love any advice on where to start? I have 3 kids and feel so confused about how to tackle our memory keeping, do I just do family PL and one album for each kid. Any suggestions of how people scrap would be great.

Also, how do you organise the photos you dont scrap but want to keep?

I think when that delightful white box comes my way with that “rainbow” coloured logo I may have just found my pot of gold. x

    Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited, thankyou!

    Becky,

I have your “old” school days kit and wonder if I’ll be able to use the papers, embellishments, etc. with your “new” school kit. Can you give us a sneak peek as to the colors, style, anything your using in the school kit?

I would love to see more ideas of how people are using pieces of PL in non-scrapbook ways.

    Kevin & Becky,

Some photo organizing questions for you two:

Do you rename your photos or do you leave whatever “name” that the camera gives it (i.e. DSC1054)?

I’m starting to keyword my photos in iPhoto and am getting confused as to what keywords to use. Do either of you attach keywords your photos in iPhoto? Are your keywords broad and general or are they specific and detailed? Can you please share your keywords so I can get an idea of the words I should consider using?

Can you explain how you process your photos when you come home from an event. For example, Becky, when you take photos of Porter and classmates when you visit the class or go to a school function what do you title the event, rename the photo and keyword the photos? Do you enter anything in the caption/notes section?

Even with iPhoto photo organization is a huge struggle for me so any tips or suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so very much!

Will there be a kit for the monthly version of PL? I can’t fathom committing to a weekly version, but would love to be able to create a page or 2 for each month and include more details about the whole family, not just the world according to our daughter. Thanks!

are you going to bring back the 2010 design? I LOVED that one and couldn’t afford it when it was available.

just to be clear, I’m talking about this design:

Can you tell me what brand the white chairs are you have in your office and where you purchased them? I’ve seen similar ones on Oprah and love them! Thanks

I’m sooooo excited that it’s almost time to order new products, can’t wait. I love love my PL and have so much fun with it.

The only questions I have for the moment is… have you been decorating lately, any spray painting, crafts for kids?? Anything like that you could share. Thanks for everything.

  49. Lindsay says:

First of all thank you so much for project life! I’ve gone from scrapbooker wannabee (buying lots of pretties, planning layouts, dreaming things up in my head…but never actually acomplishing anything) to actually getting a years worth of memories documented!! thank you, thank you, thank you!

My question is …do you add any traditional layouts and “life stuff” to your PL album? If so are you still able to get it into one album or do you split the year into multiple albums?

  50. Tina Thunell says:

Would love some holiday decorating ideas. Will there be a Christmas card designs this year? Thank you for sharing and being so nice.

  51. Tiffany says:

I’m also interested in knowing if you maintain personal albums/yearbooks for each of your kids or if you only make copies of Project Life albums for them.

Thanks and I love your blog!

  52. Maureen says:

I keep an extra album around just for the purpose of storing the extra page protectors. I know I will never ever use this album for anything other than storing the page protectors because it is a “defective” We R Memory Keepers faux leather album that the company did not want back because it is, well, defective. The issue with it is, laying flat, the front cover bows slightly and it shouldn’t. It works perfectly standing upright on a shelf, sandwiched between some other albums. So, it is my permanent storage for page protectors. It’s the best way I have come up with to store the page protectors but curious as to how others are doing it!

This was in response to this post earlier in the thread but it did not end up under her question…

Hey! I sent you & Ali this same question on twitter but haven’t heard so I’ll put it here to help you out.

      Thanks!

Must confess I’m a little confused. I have a Turquise Project Life which I have been using this year. I’m not sure what will be available for 2012 & if I need to be pre-ordering items (available in October) for 2012 or are these just available if we need them for 2011 & previous years??? Hard to know what to pre-order when the 2012 items are unknown.

  54. Lindsay says:

This is more of an organizing question. Where in your home do you keep your finished albums? Are they on display or in a closet to pull out? I feel like I’m constantly trying to find available space to display/store our growing collection.

  55. Hi Becky,

I LOVE using Project Life and wanted to thank you for making such an easy-to-use product for us to document our everyday lives. :)

I wasn’t sure where to post this, but I have a suggestion for the sheet protector pages. I’m sure you’ve probably already heard it before, but just in case, would it be possible to make them so the 4×6 photo slots could open from the side and not the top? I have photos sliding out of the album. Just wanted to mention that in case you’re still in design for the 2012 ones.

Looking forward to the new products. Thanks again, Becky! God bless!

I read a lot regarding project life and I really love the idea of capturing the moments of life and to fill the albums with photos, journaling etc.

Unfortunately I did not find a place where I can order your kits (I live in Switzerland). It’s really sad because how can we start then…

    Thank you.
