12 Videos of Christmas: No. 7

Project Life is available in 3 ways – something for everyone!

1. physical product on Amazon.com (and also available through international distributors)

2. digital elements on JessicaSprague.com

3. photo books on Shutterfly.com (coming just before Christmas)

Let’s talk about #2 for a minute.

Today’s video is a short + sweet instructional video that shows you step-by-step how to add text to one of our Project Life Journaling Cards that you can get on JessicaSprauge.com. In order to use the digital elements, one really should have some basic understanding of Photoshop Elements (or other photo editing software). That said, I know many of you are really unfamiliar with Photoshop and yet you’re intrigued with our digital products and would like to learn more. That’s super.

My hope with this video is that you’ll see how easy it really can be. Of course there is sooo much one can learn and JessicaSprague.com offers a plethora of classes to guide and teach and inspire. If you want to start small and simple and just test the waters of the digital world, sign up for Up + Running with Photoshop, which is a beginner class that I’m actually going to be taking myself (and it’s on sale right now!).

In the meantime – enjoy this little tutorial.

Many thanks to my very own brother Kevin who put this video demo together for us. He pretty much rocks.

…..

By the way, have you heard? Based on popular demand, we now offer full LAYOUT TEMPLATES for Digital Project Life!! They are available as a set of templates, as well as individually.

Here are some sample pages using the Layout Templates with the digital Project Life elements:

I just received my PL2012 items yesterday and am soooo excited about it. Since both core kits looked so fun I splurged and got both. This will be my 4th year doing this and I loooove it. Thank you Becky and David and team for putting together such an awesome kit.

This was a great video for those who need it, thanks for all the help.

OK, I’m feeling a bit stupid but I still don’t quite understand the digital elements. Are these for use in a digital scrapbook or do you use them with the physical product? If you use them with the physical product – based on the video example – do you put the physical card in the printer and just the type prints out or do you print it out on a color printer and cut the card out of the cardstock? Not sure I’m making much sense here – I’m so confused!

    • Keianna says:

You can use them both digitally and physically. If physical, you fill the card out on your screen and then print on cardstock or photo paper you have loaded into your print. Print and then cut it out and use like any other journaling card in your album. Hope that helps. It is easier than typing in Microsoft word and then taping your card to paper and printing your text on the physical card.

I love Project Life – this will be the fourth that I have purchased it. But I really miss your old blog with all of the Christmas ideas, it is starting to feel like an infomercial.

    • Hi Cathy. I addressed this recently (see this Feedback Friday blog post): http://www.beckyhiggins.com/blog/2011/11/introducing-feedback-friday/

Something else to keep in mind: You are an “experienced Project Lifer” (I love your loyalty – that’s awesome!) … but many, many of my readers these days are brand-new to our product and my blog. The updates + shared inspiration + ideas are helping others get to know Project Life and inspiring them with ways that they may want to approach their own personal memory-keeping.

Because the end of the year will always be the busiest time for us in regards to releasing new products in time for the coming year … there will naturally be a lot more information-sharing on the blog in November/December.

I do appreciate the feedback, although it is inevitable that I can’t please everyone, all the time, always. It’s not possible. I blog for free. I don’t make a dime doing it. I blog to share + inspire + hopefully help others in some way. And of course I blog to share information about Project Life because that’s my job. : )

      • Oh – one more quick note that I wanted to mention is that we’ve been getting a lot of requests for this digital tutorial. So much of what we do is based on reader feedback.

On that note, speaking of reader feedback … I do hear you. I understand those who miss the non-Project-Life blogging. Obviously once the dust settles from all the new releases, and the holidays, and everything else swirling around, you’ll see more of “normal” blogging around here. Project Life will always pop in from time-to-time though. For sure. : )

Your brother does pretty much rock, with all that “technie” knowledge he has!! I’m sure he’d be proud to know that I just bought my first Apple Mac Pro – - but oh so afraid to take it out of the box. LOL!

  5. Leslie M. says:

Wow! I am loving all of this goodness! I am currently taking the “up and running” digital class through Jessica Sprague and love it! I have learned so much! I was wondering if anyone has remmendations on where I could print digital pages in a bound book. I love the compact books! I’m excited to see what Shutterfly offers as well. If anyone has suggestions, I would love to hear! Thank you everyone and thank you Becky!

    • Brenda says:

You’ll be able to load you digital pages up into a Shutterfly book as a full page ‘photo’ (once you’ve created a page in Photoshop you just save it into jpeg format so it will be like any other photo you might load into a photobook), so rather than using their templates, you just fill your book with your own digital pages. It works great. I’ve used Blurb too and liked those results as well.

      • Kari w/ BeckyHiggins.com says:

I know that Jessica Sprague also has a printing partner – Scrapping Simply. They offer photo books through PaperKiwi and often run sales and promotions through her printing link {found at the top of the JS.com website}. Their customer service has always been great for me, too. I have also uploaded my completed pages to Shutterfly and had them printed in photo books with fantastic results! You will *love* seeing your pages in print :)

        • Leslie M. says:

Thank you Kari! I just looked at her website again and found all of the information. It seems simple enough! Can’t wait to see pages printed! Thank you again! Your layout above is absolutely beautiful! Very inspiring… I’m sure I’ll scraplift it soon! :)

      • Leslie M. says:

Thank you so much for the information. I wondered if there was some way to create it through Shutterfly. I’ve heard of Blurb, but haven’t checked into that at all. Thank you again!!

  6. Clara says:

LOVE that there are now digital templates available! I am super excited about this!

  7. Brenda says:

Adobe offers 30-day trials of Photoshop CS (Creative Studio) and Photoshop Elements. They also offer student pricing with proof of enrollment (e.g., report card).

Another option for digital is to print your 12×12 pages at Costco. They have quite reasonable pricing here in Canada as I’m sure they do elsewhere.

Becky – maybe you could do a few posts with back-links to some of your past holiday-themed posts, perhaps with a bit of ‘this-year’ context added in. I know I appreciate that for some other blogs that I follow – it’s often fun to be reminded of those posts (and for your newer readers to see some of them).

  8. Jessica C says:

    Woohoo!! Thanks Becky.
I received my early Christmas present yesterday from my fiancé I opened an email from Jessica Spargue that had 3 gift codes to the 3 out of 4 classes in digital scrapbooking!!
Can you imagine my excitement after finding out about PL only a few months back & gong crazy on supplies & products :D
I cannot wait for 2012 to begin – YOU ARE amazing with everything you have created, I cannot tell you how excited I am to begin PL

  9. Sabrina says:

Thanks Kevin for doing the tutorial! I always enjoy when you make an “appearance” on the blog.

  10. Cheryl says:

I love the layout templates, but I use Storybook Creator by Creative Memories and the .psd files only work in Photoshop. Wish you offered them in .png or better still .page (CM’s file).

  11. Suzanne says:

I just love, love the digital Project Life (purchased from Jessica Sprague) as I have been making my own for the past few years but I am so on board with your new kits and templates. I have bought them ALL! I would love to see – possibly – a seasonal digital Project Life kit or something like that, that may offer a small amount of journaling cards and embellishments for things like Easter, Christmas etc that could be added into the Digital Project Life templates each year. Any chance something like that might be in the works?? Thanks again for the fantastic Digital Project Life.

  12. Luannw says:

I love the classes at Jessica Sprauge.com. They have helped me use my. Computer as a powerful scrapbooking tool. I am about to start my second year in review and can’t wait to use both of your products and sites together.

  13. Maureen says:

    Hi Becky & Kevin –

Any chance of me purchasing the font in Kevin’s tutorial? (Kevin’s Hand)

    Love it.

(Becky – Love you and everything you have done to help me document my incredibly blessed life. I really think you are a genius.)

  14. Jules says:

As a PLer based in the UK it’ll be a few months yet before I get my hands on the physical new bits and bobs for my 2012 projects (its arrival will cheer up the post-Christmas winter blues), I’m so happy that these digital elements are available. They allow me to get my very own Clementine and Cobalt fix in the meantime!
