So we’re just going about our business one day last month and we get this email from Jeff of Phoenix, Arizona. Love the emails from the guys because they are fewer and farther between than the 99% females we usually hear from. This is what Jeff writes:
Seven years ago when my wife was 30 years old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Our kids were 6, 2, and 1 at the time so needless to say it was a very scary time. After a double mastectomy and 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy, she was declared cancer free by her oncologist. The ordeal had a profound effect on how Jenny looked at life. When she was going through treatment, she was challenged by a fellow patient to write down everything she wanted to do in life and “go for it”. He wasn’t going to survive and he had regrets about putting things off and not doing things because they seemed too crazy.
The treatment took a lot out of us emotionally and financially and 6 years went by until Jenny came to me early this year and said that she wanted to start a blog to document completing things that she had on her bucket list (we call it her life list). So, for Mother’s Day I had jennymeyerson.com designed and hosted and off she went.
Jenny is a little crazy and a nerd (in a good way) and one of her list items was to dance with strangers in front of the monuments in Washington DC. This summer we went to her 20th high school reunion in Virginia and spent the week touring DC and taking video. I was so embarrassed about asking strangers to dance that I would walk about 100 yards behind Jenny with the camera while she asked people to dance. To my surprise, people loved it. Eventually, she even got me to roll down the hill in front of the Washington Monument and to dance with her in front of the Lincoln Center.
Okay. Nod your head if you are totally loving Jeff right now. Awesome husbands rock. This is my favorite part, which was Jeff’s response after we notified him that the video was one of our picks to feature. He says, By the way, Jenny knows that I submitted the video but I haven’t told her that it was picked. I decided to keep it a surprise and let her see it featured on the site. She goes to Becky’s site just about everyday.
Hey Jenny – SURPRISE! : )
Jeff and Jenny used their Canon 5D Mark II SLR Camera for the video and edited the video using iMovie.

I am so happy that everybody is getting so much joy from the video. We had so much fun making it and had an amazing time together in DC. …and I’m BAWLING. I’m smiling and laughing and crying and sobbing and wishing it wouldn’t take a major life event like that to make ME get up and dance. (Because it probably would.) Jenny: I’m inspired to take life by the reins right NOW and dance like there’s no tomorrow. What a happy note to start my day on! AND…what a wonderfully supportive husband to get involved making his wife’s dreams come true.
Seriously…that made me SMILE SO HUGE! Way to go Jenny and Jeff! I would love to see Jenny’s face when she sees that her video was picked! My favorite! Way to dance as if no one was watching! But…we’re all watching and smiling! Go Jenny!
Oh my goodness, Jenny and Jeff. I am smiling and yet feel as if I am about to cry. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I am going to watch it again and grab my kiddos to dance with me (incidentally they are about the same age so the ages of your kids when the cancer diagnosis came – turning six in two weeks, just turned three, and 14 months). We’ll turn it up extra loud and say a prayer for you.
This was totally AWESOME! Brought a huge smile to my face this morning! I need to be more like Jenny and be more “free” and not worry what others think so much! I have also been wanting to do a “bucket list” but never get around to it. Thanks Jenny for the huge smile this a.m. and the inspiration! I am so glad you are doing well and cancer free! have a blessed holiday season!

Congrats to Jenny and Jeff! What a great video – so much fun. It’s great to see you have so much fun after all that you’ve been through. I was also diagnosed with cancer at the age of 30 (hodgkins lymphoma) and know how expensive it can be and tiring. So glad to see you up and out having fun. Laughter really is the best medicine. I’m excited to check out your life list.

Just Beautiful. I love hearing stories like this and seeing people being free.
I was fine until the shot at the end of the family. Now I can’t stop the tears in my eyes. What fabulously lucky children to have their mom, and to have a dad that loves her enough to do this with her! Congrats on beating cancer!
So precious! I had tears in my eyes from watching. So sweet of her husband to do that for her. I felt bad in the scenes where she dances alone, wish I could be there dancing with her! Thank you for choosing this one.

I loved this video!! I live in Australia & have not travelled outside of Australia. All I’ve seen of Washington is from movies & the news. I always got the impression that Washington was a very “sit in your chair with your back straight”, very official & ceremonial type place. I loved how Jenny showed me the fun side if the city. I laughed & smiled the whole way through the video.
Very beautuful and inspiring. You guys make a cute couple.
Best video so far!
