Becky, I was wondering if you consistently use the same “filter” on Instagram? And which one you love the most?
I have several go-to favorite filters. There isn’t just one filter that is so perfect for every shot, know what I mean? The same filter used on a nature shot vs. a still life shot vs. skin tones will look totally different. So the filter I use really depends on the picture I take. To answer your question, here are my favorites.
I snapped a quick still life picture to demonstrate how different filters look on the same image. While these are my favorite filters for this particular image, they’re not necessarily the same favorites for skin tones. So here are a few more favorite filters.
{ tip of the day }
That picture of me? Not taken with an iPhone. My friend + super talented photographer Natalie Norton snapped that picture of me with her dSLR. Did you know that you can instagram (yes, I’m using it as a verb) photos that aren’t necessarily taken on your iPhone? True story. I figured this out accidentally a few months ago and it’s just one of those things you iPhoneographers must know! You can get any image from your computer to your phone with syncing … or you can email the image to yourself then save the image to your photo library and there it is! All ready to be instagrammed. : )

Do you personally combine Project Life with POTD?
I have been doing the 365 or photo-a-day approach for the past few years. This year is different for me. For 2012, I am using Project Life to document our family’s life one week per layout. Sounds kinda the same, right? Yes, I will still end up with the same number of photos and pages in my photo book (I am using the Clementine Edition on Shutterfly in the 8×11 format), but I’m just more relaxed with this approach. The end result will be equally cool to past years of documenting with a picture every single day. Hope I’m making sense. I am really, really happy with this approach. In fact, I will be honest and tell you I have done one layout in 2012 so far (you can see that HERE) and … that is all so far. The idea of “catching up” on the last 4 weeks might feel a little overwhelming if I’m trying to keep up with the POTD approach. But I’m not. That pressure is gone for me this year and I know that this weekend I can skim through my pictures from this past month and easily get caught up in probably an hour.

Are there any Project Life kits for 8.5 x 11 scrappers? I’d love to buy Project Life but I don’t want to switch formats.
I totally know what you mean by wanting to keep all of your books/albums the same size. The reason 12×12 makes so much sense is this: 99% of us print our photos in the standard 4×6 size. The whole idea behind Project Life is to SIMPLIFY the memory-keeping process. Adapting the design of Photo Pocket Pages so that they adapt for an 8.5×11 album isn’t simple. It would require the user to crop photos and get creative that way. We are always open to ideas and suggestions and possibilities. Smaller versions of Project Life very well could be part of our product offering in the future.
…..
I take a lot of photos daily on instagram with my iPhone. Have you ever considered making Photo Pocket Pages to fit the 4×4 photos? I have found sleeves that hold the 4×4 photos, but nothing that can fit journaling cards too & such.
Yes, we are working on those now. I’m super stoked.

I will give you updates so you don’t have to wonder.

Will you please share more layouts that are more like the pictures on your home page? They are basic: Pictures + cards from the Core Kit. Beautiful and simple. Those pics show the true beauty of what you have created! A brilliant idea. As a full-time employee and a full-time mom who loves creativity … I just think seeing “basic layouts” is important. Just a thought.
I completely agree with you! If you missed it, be sure to check out my Project Life in its most basic form blog post. I would be thrilled to see more submissions from Project Lifers who aren’t necessarily getting “creative” with their pages. If you are simple with your style and using our products in the most basic form … please submit your layouts. Then I can be better about sharing those. : )
…..
With the way your Photo Pocket Pages have evolved and expanded in recent months, why are there no horizontal cards in the Core Kit, to work with Design B + Design D?
Because, like you mentioned, of evolution. Now that we have different configurations of Photo Pocket Pages available … including many more that are in the works right now … it absolutely makes sense to include horizontal designer journaling cards in the Project Life Core Kit. We’re re-ordering more Core Kits in every edition and these will now include a box of horizontal journaling cards. They’ll probably show up to Amazon around May-ish.
In the meantime … if you already have a Core Kit, you also have a stack of 3×4 grid cards that came in the kit. These work for both horizontal + vertical use. Leave them plain, or dress up the edge with a simple strip of Project Life Cardstock if you’d like. We have cardstock collections for every edition available right now. You can see them all HERE.
…..
Do you think you’ll ever do a Project Life booth at CHA? I kept thinking about it during the show!
While I have fond memories of attending craft and scrapbooking trade shows many times over the years, I’m just not there “in the scene” these days. I totally recognize that it’s unconventional for our company to not exhibit like most other scrapbooking companies. But I think we’re unconventional in a lot of ways and we are quite content with that. Exhibiting at a trade show or a consumer show is not a small project. Any time I would invest even thinking about extra stuff like that (let alone actually working to make it happen) just means less time designing products and inspiring others to document their lives. Right now I’m focused on the core of who we are … and what we do … and how we can help others.
One day, perhaps. But this isn’t my season for trade show exhibition.
…..
Have you ever thought about selling Project Life on TV? Just throwing that out there. I know you’re thinking big and I can totally see it.
Yep – we’ve thought about it. I have experience with QVC from “back in the day” when I did a bit of that in my last job (designing stuff for QVC, selling stuff on-air at QVC, etc.). For many reasons and thanks to my experience, we’re opting out of QVC scene with Project Life. At least for now. But I’m a never-say-never girl.
One day, perhaps. But this isn’t my season for QVC.
…..
Becky, I use Picnik to edit and number my POTD photos. They are closing in April. Do you recommend any other (FREE preferably) photo editing sites? Thanks so much.
Honestly, I’m really only familiar with my own little system, which is iPhoto on my Mac. That’s where I organize my pictures. I welcome others to share their thoughts, experiences, and ideas in the Comments.

What’s going on with Project Life in the UK + Europe? Is it no longer going to be available on amazon.co.uk?
The way Project Life will come to customers in the UK and all over Europe has been modified and we feel this will be a much better customer experience for those in that part of the world. You can read all about it HERE.
…..
Let’s see some Project Life inspiration for teens and tweens.
Amen. Anyone of any age is invited and encouraged to share your Project Life pages with us. Email submissions@beckyhiggins.com. Remember: It’s not the creativity that matters. We want to see how you’re documenting your life with pictures + words. Same goes for those of you in your retired or empty-nester phase of life. We would love to see how you’re using Project Life!
…..
I bought your original baby kit from several years ago and it is pure genius! Are you considering bringing that back at all?
Yes. Can you picture it? Project Life: Baby Editions. It’s a natural idea! The old kit that I did still required you to put pages together and get a little creative. I am such a fan of further simplification and that’s exactly what you can expect out of all of our products. I do not have an expected date (I know you’re going to ask), but at least you know it’s in the queue.
…..
Hey Becky, I’m working on my first Project Life album and I’m realizing that my husband and kids are the main subjects my project. How do we (the documenters) make sure that we are included and not forgotten?
1) Hand the camera over and ask someone to snap a picture of you. 2) If no one else is around that can snap an occasional picture for you, learn about the timer option on your camera. Then set the camera down on the table while you’re working on homework with the kids, the floor while you’re changing a diaper, the counter while you’re doing dishes or working on a project, or a tripod if you have one. That’s a sure-fire way to get yourself in more pictures.
…..
Do you have an estimated time frame of when the new Project Life template will be uploaded to Shutterfly?
You haven’t heard – it’s already there! And we are LOVING it! Read more HERE.

I love your teal ottoman! Saw it posted on Pinterest & on your blog. Could you share where you got it?

It will be a special edition. Your questions will be answered by the other half of us – David Higgins. So … what’s on your mind? What would you like to ask David? He has been 100% involved in taking this little idea in my head to what it is today. He’s not a scrapbooker but he knows a thing or two about … just about anything. : )

I am one that had been frequently posting on the blog and on facebook about the horizontal journaling card issue. I honestly think it is crap that you are telling us that NOW there will be journaling cards in the core kit that will be horizontal. The rest of us are supposed to buy a set of cardstock and make our own. Thanks.
I’m sorry this upsets you so much, Karalyn. I didn’t say anything about expecting anyone to do anything about buying a set of cardstock. I was asked a legitimate question and I am simply sharing an IDEA for those who need horizontal journaling cards. Those grid cards that come in the Core Kit are wonderful and versatile and can be used just as they are. But adding a little strip of paper (just dig into your stash of scraps; doesn’t have to be our designs) … or ribbon … or anything at all … can dress up the card in a snap … IF that’s what you want.
It’s an option … a solution … for trying to get around the fact that we didn’t have horizontal cards in the last round of Core Kits. As mentioned, we are EVOLVING. We are growing. We are working out kinks and continually trying to improve our products for the best user experience. I am very open with my readers and customers and in no way did I “hold” any of this information from anyone. In fact, we are just barely wrapping up the designs on all the horizontal cards. Soon they will be available in digital format. Again … it’s an OPTION.
I’m not sure how you got the impression that this is something I could have shared earlier, as we are only now placing a re-order on all of the Core Kits (just one edition is sold out right now but we’re gearing up to have more + plenty of ALL editions).
Sorry about it sounding like you were withholding information – I didn’t mean it to as I don’t think you were!! I meant it as with core kits going forward there will be horizontal journaling cards in the kit, when I assumed they would be there with the original kits.
I guess I just didn’t want to a) use the grid cards to make other journaling cards, b) buy another product (as I have not purchased the cardstock since I didn’t know if I would use it and I already spent $100) and if it is digital I have to pay for the product, paper, ink to get it printed/copied. I want it to be easy for me to use and this has been stopping me.
I love your products – and love where you are going with Project Life. I went to CKU in 2003 in Utah and met you. I’ve bought at least 2 of the kits – Project 365 and another Project Life kit, in addition to the current kit. I will more than likely continue to buy your products as well…Project life, school kits (as I have 2 little ones and that will be coming up fast!), etc.
Sorry if I was rude/harsh/etc. I guess I just need to “get over it” and put more focus on working on my PL and the other unfinished projects.
Karalyn,
I have the Cobalt edition and many of the journaling cards can be turned horizontally. I also use the back of some of the vertical cards (that I don’t like as much) and decorate as I see fit.
We are all evolving with Becky as she realizes the potential of these great products… Companies are always making new and improved versions… we just have to go with the flow.
Will the horizontal cards be available as an individual item for those that already purchased a core kit ?
I like that idea. Maybe a little “kit” enhancement for those of us who want 25 or so of the horizontal cards…
eww.
If you’ve been posting about it it sounds like Becky listened and is making it happen. Don’t point out an issue and then complain when it is fixed. I’m so thankful for these products and how they have changed the way I organize and show my photos. I, for one, appreciate all Becky has done and appreciate her willingness to make improvements as quickly as possible, with amazing quality, and most importantly, with integrity.
Amen Sister!!!!
I agree Vanessa. The comment was very rude. Sorry Karalyn but maybe next time you will slow down and take a breath before shooting off a message like that.
Sorry Vanessa, Angela, & Cheryl, but I had already commented and had had zero response from Becky. This was on a post from maybe 2-3 weeks ago? Also a post on Facebook, where someone else wanted an answer too. It wasn’t a hard question/concern and it doesn’t take that long to post a response.
Maybe I was too quick to leave a comment, but it was how I was feeling in the moment.
Time to move on.
It’s easy to turn a card and write on it sideways. I’m doing that a lot, writing perpendicularly to the lines, and it’s not a big deal. They look great in the pocket pages when surrounded by all the other sideways cards and photos. Would horizontal cards be ideal? Sure. But the regular journaling cards work out just fine too.
I have gone through a bunch of options, just haven’t found one that is for me yet. I don’t like the lines going vertical when the text is horizontal – just my opinion, that’s all.
For photo organization, I highly recommend Picasa! It is a FREE Google product. I love it and everyone I share it with loves it too! Plus you can EASILY put two 3 by 4 photos together on a 4 x 6 and it is WAY faster than Photoshop! I’d be happy to share how. Here’s a link to get it: http://picasa.google.com/
I totally agree. Picasa is awesome. I too have been using it for Project Life over Photoshop. Just easier and faster. When I have a few pictures for a 4×6 slot, I just mark them and then select collage. You can then add them all to a 4×6 and even add spacing between the photos so they look like the templates that are floating around. Then, I upload through Picasa and print with Persnickety Prints.
I like to add vertical pictures to the journaling slots too. So now I use Picasa. No resizing necessary. Persnickety just added a 3×4 printing option. LOVE IT! So easy!!
I also agree. Picasa is good and free. We haven’t had it since we got a new computer a few months ago but from what I recall I liked the collage option and you could put text on your pictures as well.

Free editing software online Gimp. Don’t know if they have an app yet
Are the big pack of photo pages really going to be $19.99!!?? That is $5 cheaper than before, so that is great!
And what are the horizontal journal cards going to look like and when you reorder the kits to include these, when are they going to be available?
I love all your products and am a huge BH fan…thanks for being you and doing what you do!
EEK! Totally my error. So sorry. Fixing that right now.
The Big Packs are $24.99. I should get more sleep. ; )
Thank you Sheree.
Unfortunately, QVC does not do scrapbooking shows anymore. HSN is the place for Martha Stewart, Anna Griffin, Sandy Genovese, and many others. They even have their own line, 3 Birds. I have been very happy with their shipping to Hawaii, always expensive, and their scrapbooking/craft days. Hugs & Aloha
I JUST GOT MY NEW Clementine Edition.. like JUST now and am SOOO excited to get started on it!!! I still have until mid March to finish up my last project life but I’m LOVING the Clementine design!! Just wanted to say GREAT JOB and THANK YOU again!!!
So happy for your enthusiasm and kind words. You are why I do what I do, Desiree. Have fun with Clementine!
for those affected by PICNIK closing on April … another alternative to use is PICASA … since picnik was acquired by Google, Picasa and Picnik are now integrated since they are both owned by Google
Hi Becky!
Thank-you to you, your family and your team for creating awesome products for us!
I am not quite a full year into doing Project Life, but I am LOVING it and I am so happy for all the memories and stories I have been able to record! Things and bits of our lives that otherwise would have been lost, forgotten or stuffed into a junk drawer are now recorded!!
I have seen requests (and your replies) for a page protector for 4×4 photos, but I would really love one for 3×3 photos (able to fit a bit more on one page) or even one with 2×2 photo pockets!!
Thanks again!
Debbie
Thanks for the mention
Yesterday the 6 yr old granddaughter “kept score” for our Rummy-O game… all her little letters and numbers on a pad – Going right into the Project Life as is
Love how that works out !!!
Thanks for the update on when the new pages will be out…. have been checking EVERY DAY!!! LOL … will give myself a break, but already have my HUGE pages order made out!
I was curious how your view towards Project Life has changed over the years. I understand that it is evolving and changing, but how has your attitude changed about it?
I know this approach has changed how I scrapbook and document our life, making it much easier. Is this what you wanted?
Regarding Picnick. Another FREE online photo editor is Pixlr.com. However, it is not as simple as Picnick. It is more like Photoshop Elements. It has videos both on the site and on Youtube that explain how to do things.
When is the turquoise core kit returning to stock?
I have a turquoise core kit, and would love to swap for a clementine edition. I am in Minnesota, and could send it to you if you are interested.

Please email me so we can work out the details……Thanks
Can I get your email address? It is not published. Or feel free to email me at star_babe3@hotmail.com to work out the details.
Thanks!
Yes! Picasa all the way. Their “collage” feature allows you to put a bunch of pix onto a 4×6 print too, which makes it easy to cram more pix in when you have an overflowing week! LOL! A tip for that: if you’re printing them at Costco, make sure you chose “thin white border” around your collage, otherwise they chop some of it off.
Thanks for the tip on the border! I will try that.
I have just been going great guns on my PL this year. I bought the Cobalt digital kit (my fav) from Jessica Sprague and the D Template and am following the POTD format. Since I wanted more horizontal journaling cards I just opened each vertical card in Photoshop, rotated it and, if need be, I got rid of the little lines that are now vertical. Or in the case of the ones with the wide blue lines, they look perfectly fine in the vertical position. And on a few favorites I just cropped out the design and pasted it onto the plain grid card. And I even created a few of my own for fun using the free grid card and the little embellishments. Love them all and they work great! I just saved all of my horizontal cards into a separate folder so they would be easy for me to pick from.
Now, just to make it all even easier I have been creating the full 12X12 pages with everything all layed out and just waiting for the pictures and my journaling when the time comes. I’ve put in the title cards with dates, journal cards and day stickers. When a full page is complete with my pictures and journaling I download it into Shutterlfy and drag it into the book and it’s done. Once I get all my pages set up for the year it will be as simple as last year’s digital book was. I’ve already completed pages through the end of April. I just do a few a day. If I figure how or where to share a couple photos I will.
Thank you Becky! I have never known anyone as caring and responsive to your customers’ wishes. As my grandson would say – “You Rock!!”
Hey Becky, I just wanted to let you know how much I absolutely love working PL on Shutterfly, once I figured out how to get to your product there it was a breeze. Now let me tell you I am so computer illiterate that sometime turning on my computer can be more than I can handle but it truely is as easy as everyone has been saying it is. I just about have a whole book done just with my January pictures and it is so much fun to click drag and see results. I totally had my feet dug in to not like this way of doing project life but wow with results like this I just may switch. Thanks for making life so Easy you are my EASY BUTTON lol ok Donna
I am very happy to hear there will be digi versions of horizontal journal cards & I love the flexibility of some of the cards already in the kit to use them either horizontally or vertically. I used Turquoise last year & I did a lot of pages with the Design B page protectors & used some of the journal cards sideways – there were 3 or 4 designs that worked. But I didn’t even think of using a strip of the cardstock on the blank cards. What a brilliant idea!
Becky I was wondering if it’s possible to find out what the fonts used on the title and journal cards are? Are they standardly available fonts or were they specially designed for Project Life? I am doing a hybrid album this year & would love to be able to replicate the fonts.
Thank you
This week I got distracted by the on-line Project Life possibilities out there. I too had horizontal spots & wanted to fill & went looking for free printable journaling cards…I spent my whole morning on-line & then printed & trimmed & then that was it…I haven’t finished the week, the photos are in & 2 bits of journaling I did in the week on Evernote have been printed but that’s it. I normally have the whole week done in that one morning using just the kit &i have used the horizontal slots before…so back to basics for me & I am limiting myself to a few favourite PL bloggers.
I am so glad to have your submissions email, I wanted to share my title page with you, it’s using design E & I hadn’t seen any examples for that design out there.
You ROCK Becky!
Becky, thank you (you + your family) for all of your hard work and for bringing back the joy and simplicity to scrapbooking.
I have sincerely considered going back through my photos and filling in the missing gaps with PL. I have plenty of stories that were never told because I thought I needed elaborate layouts and now I know that I don’t. I have all 5 PL kits (the red album from the first year, both Amber and turquoise, clementine and cobalt). I love them all and use them all in different ways, but the one thing that remains is they are colorful, fun, simple and doable. I love it!
However your company evolves, I respect and appreciate that evolution and growth because I know it comes from a place of trying to inspire and respond to your customers. I support you.
Thanks again!

I was wondering if you have a timeline for the 3×4 journaling card punch… I know you have mentioned it is in the works. But, will it be available in a few months, at the end of the year, next year…. ? Thank you!
I’m curious about that, too.
A punch would be nice. But until then, if you have a cricut, you can cut a rectangle (I use the one on plantin schoolbook) at 2.83 x 4.00. Then just use a corner rounder.
I feel like I’m counting down the days til Christmas.
I’m so extremely excited for the plastics to be back in stock so I can start my first PL.
I am so excited about the possibility of a Project Life Baby Kit!! Do you know if they will be gender neutral or will you have a separate boy and girl kit?
Becky—
I just have to say how much I admire you for the hundreds (if not thousands) of hours you, and David, have put into PL….I know you’ve had almost sleepless nights making everything perfect for your customers. There are thousands of people who appreciate you, your integrity, your hard work, your creativity, and the way you run your company. I love that fact that you’re “not done” just with project life…that you want to press forward and create other solution based scrapbook products. I am a forever believer in PL, and Becky Higgins LLC.
This is my 3rd year doing PL and I feel like I’ve really found my groove this year. I’m doing a week at a glance approach (I like this so much better than potd) and since these are now my family scrapbooks I’m taking the time to add a few creative touches here and there. I love that the creative simplicity of this product, but I also love that you can add simple creative touches as well.
Blessings,

and I also used the clementine digital paper in my blog header this year. LOVE!
So excited for the plastic pages to get back in stock so I can keep going. Silly me, I should have ordered more in the beginning! Thanks for making PL easy and doable for this mother of two young’uns!
Nicole
First-great product and really excited to be doing it this year after a year hiatus. Really looking forward to the pages that will hold instragram photos, but sometimes I just print them 4×6 or 3×3 and put them on journalling cards.
Second-A question for David-When do you sleep? LOL
Would you consider offering the horizontal cards in a separate package, similar to what you offer for the grid cards? I already have 3 core kits, so I would love the option of ordering just the horizontal cards. Thanks for listening to our suggestions, and trying to keep us all happy. I am sure the task seems monumental some days.
Okay, so I just finished my first month of POTD (Yay!), and I have a question. As I was taking my photo each day I found myself wondering if I needed to take a vertical or horizontal picture, because it wouldn’t work to take horizontal one day, vertical the next, and so on, because the sheet protectors aren’t like that. How is everyone dealing with this? I ended up taking all horizontal (which isn’t my fave) just to be consistent, because I won’t be printing out my photos and assembling the pages ’till the end of each month. Any ideas? Thanks!
I deal with the same thing. This year I’m doing all vertical photos for the D Template but often take horizontal pictures. So first I create a new document in Photoshop that is a vertical 4X6. Then I either crop my photo into a 4X3 so it will fit cross-wise in that 4X6 space or I just drag the photo, as is, on top of that new space and size it down so it fits across the space. Then I change the background color to something that complements the photo and sometimes add a little title or something in that extra space to jazz it up a bit. Or you can put some digital paper behind the photo. Or, many times, I crop two pictures and fit them both in, one on top of the other. (Or side by side if you’re doing a horizontal space.) Two 3X4′s make one 6X4. So, is that “clear as mud?”
Wish I could explain it better. But it’s easy.
I’m definitely dealing with the same thing. I have mostly the horizontal design pages, but I also got a few that use vertical pics. However, like you say, if I incorporate the vertical design page protector, then I would also have to use it for the next week. My solution, while it’s not ideal, works for me. I’m working really hard to keep this very simple because I really don’t have much time available to work on it and I really want to keep it up. Therefore, I just put the vertical ones in sideways. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than nothing.
Thank you for your updates and your great products.
My question is about process. I’m thinking you’re working on a range of things now and I’d love to see how something like the school kit evolves. For example … Do u initially mockup things up and hand test them? Do u approach a handful of designers and see who meets your design brief the best? Etc etc … I just think that behind the scenes stuff would be so interesting … And would give alot of people a new appreciation for the HUGE amount of work that goes in to getting ‘just’ one kit off the ground!
Thank you …
Oh, those are very good questions, Kate! I, too, would love to hear and see the process of how the kits and everything come together. I totally believe it is a HUGE amount of work. Love you, Becky!
I totally agree…and would be fascinated at what this process looks like!
LOVE this idea!!
Question for David… What do you do other than your co. With Becky.? I.e. your other occupation. Also what’s some of your favorite things about Becky.
Question for David: How are you involved in your personal/family scrapbooks? Do you do some of the journaling? I guess I’m looking for ideas on getting the hubs involved in our scrapbooks.
Hi Becky, Great feedback information. I wanted to ask the same things as Lori H asked, for those of us who have already bought the core kits, would you please consider offering the Horizontal Journaling cards separately.
Thanks
Banu
David
How did you become interested in Project LIfe? What is your occupation and how do you split your time between PL and your primary occupation? Would also love to see the evolution of the PL kit.
Becky’s blog only shows the positive …what are some real moments in your family life (except for sickness and bruises).
Just because you mentioned the possible PL Baby Kit, will the school kit be “PL” style or more like the old version with 12×12 papers and such? Since it sounds like this is in the works maybe you know this already. Thanks!!
I have a question – either for David or someone else out there ‘in the know’…
I’m using Acorn to edit some of my PL photos. I have a photo of my DH taken through a window, so there is ‘window flash’ (for want of a better term!) on part/s of his face (ie, it looks like he has white paint on parts of his face). I think the easiest way to ‘fix’ this is to copy part of his facial colouring and paste that over the white part/s. But *HOW* do I do that???!!! Please, I’d love some help
I have no photo editing experience except adding text (using Acorn) in the past (and I muck that up half a dozen times before I get it right!).
Kind regards from downunder…
How do you print instagram photos? Everyone talks about the 4×4 size and I haven’t figured out how to do it.
I’m not sure if you print at home or order your prints. There is an app for the iphone called postal pix. You can order 4×4 prints from them directly them. If you print at home, there are ways to do it with photoshop or picasa. With picasa, make sure you choose the shrink to fit option if you are printing on 4×6 paper. And you will probably need to add a thin white border to make sure none of your photo is cut off. This may be different for each printer. I did a blog post that explained how to print two instagram pics on one 4×6 here – http://www.debduty.com/2012/01/printing-instagram-photos-for-project.html
If you have any questions, feel free to email me!
Becky, I love how you expressed that some things are just not in “season” for you right now. I find it so hard to say no to things are good/I really do like but know I just don’t have time for during this stage in our life. I’m going to steal that line:)
2 questions for David:
1. Now that Project Life is HUGE in the scrapping community, it probably seems like it was an easy bet to everyone. But when you and Becky first acted on the idea, how did you weigh the personal risks, to your finances and your family time, etc?
2. What are three of your favorite things about Becky…and does she really not eat Raisin Bran any more?
Will the new horizontal journaling cards that will also be available on Jessica Sprague be designed for each separate theme or will they be kind of generic to all the kits? I have prepared my digital pages to be ready for dropping in photos and typing the journaling for half the year so far. But I may hold off finishing to see what other fun horizontal cards you come up with. Because, of course, I can ALWAYS use more. Just like my physical scrapbook products – enough for 10 lifetimes already! Shame on me.
But you can never have enough Becky.
As a third year medical student who also loves to scrapbook and is addicted to project life(its the only way I have been successful in keeping up with scrapbooking despite my busy school schedule!!) I have some questions for David:
How did you choose the field of Anesthesiology? What do you love about your speciality?
Thanks!!!
To the one who asked about a replacement for Picnik…I came across this blogpost.

Instagram page protectors – now just stop. I’m only allowed to handle so much excitement every calendar year. Absolutely AMAZING. If you make them for DVDs, I might go into cardiac arrest.
I love this comment! Good idea on protectors for DVDs. What kind of stuff do you put on the DVDs, if you don’t mind sharing?
Hi Jenny! One of our creative team members had a great idea for incorporating DVDs into her Project Life album … you can see that here : http://www.cherisheveryday.com/2011/12/creative-team-inspiration-december.html
I’m not sure if this has been answered – I’m sure it has. If each page protector just has “PL” materials in them and pictures, how many pages can fit in the binders. Trying to figure out how much I can put in my baby’s first book – do I include a weekly journaling of my maternity or is that a new book!?
The 60 pack will all fit into 1 binder. keep in mind though, the more “extra” things you add, the less page protectors you will be able to fit in your binder.
There are a couple of good alternatives to Picnick. If you are looking for an experience very close to Picnick, try fotoflexer (www.fotoflexer.com). It has a lot of the same effects, stickers, frames, etc. If you are looking for an experience a little closer to Photoshop, try Pixlr (www.pixlr.com). Pixlr has two editors. The first is Pixlr Express. It is a lot like Picnick. It is simple to use. If you want an experience a little closer to Photoshop, try Pixlr Editor. There are lots of good tutorials.
I saw that someone recommended GIMP. For me, I found GIMP a little hard to learn to use. It is not very intuitive. There are lots of tutorials, but I found the learning curve a little too steep.
Becky,
This is my 3rd year doing project life and the year before that I did a picture a day. I love, love, love this system! My albums stay up to date and my kids are constantly looking at them. They help me remember all the good times we have and how blessed our family is. My question is: Can you show more examples and ideas for a simple way to use the other page protectors other than design A? In the past I used A and had a system down to print out my horizontas asl 4X6′s and my verticals as wallets. I bought the big combo pack this year and am having to rethink thinks and it is lots more complicated. Any suggestions? Also, with the vertical 4×6 slots, how are people doing the titles since the white space is sideways?
oh, oh, oh! What a good thought to print your vertical photos as wallet size!!!!! Brilliant, thanks for the great tip.
Hi Becky,
I use a core kit, matching cardstock, Design A style layout, and I’ve added in some washi tape as super quick and easy adhesive. I’d like to submit some of my layouts to you but wasn’t sure where to send them? I’d love to e-mail them to you. Or, if it’s easier, here’s a link to all my Project Life blog posts. http://ericasdoingsomethingelse.blogspot.com/search/label/Project%20Life
This is my first year doing Project Life and I’m loving it so much! Having these little everyday moments captured means so much to me. We almost lost our son last year and I’ve come to cherish the everyday more than ever.
Anyway, you requested some pages from simple Project Lifers and I’m pretty sure I fit the bill.
Thanks for creating this great way to cherish the everyday!

About the horizontal journaling cards, there are several in the core kits already that would work as horizontal. They don’t have lines on them at all or they have a grid. I would like to be able a “deck” of all horizontal cards, though, to ensure that I would have enough.
I’m so excited to hear that the photo pocket pages will be in soon! And I didn’t know that the core kit came with a set of grid cards. I just ordered my kit a few days ago along with some B and F photo pocket pages. Those grid cards will be great for horizontal journaling cards! Thanks for the update and I can’t wait to get started!
You’re doing an awesome job!

I just wanted to say that I love love love love love….. the Shutterfly version of Project Life. I love the fact that once a week I can sit at the computer, collect the photos from the week (easily added via the shutterfly app on my phone and/or through iphoto) Then it takes me about 15 minutes to choose the layout I want, write my journaling, and add photos to the layout. I love this, and it make documenting my life so much easier. Thanks for partnering with Shutterfly for this project.
Are you going to be adding in the other layout designs that you have with project life into shutterfly like you did with Design A? That would be pretty cool. Anyway… Thanks so much!
Any chance Shutterfly will be getting Design D pages – love the one that’s been loaded already, but have loads of portrait images that don’t quite work with Design A.
Ditto Julia! The Shutterfly versions ROCKS! Would love to see more focus on this version in the future. Idea pages on your blog, what you and other CT members are doing with it, etc…
Thanks so much!
Kristen
Can you share your instagram screen name? I searched Becky Higgins and it said no results, then I searched just Higgins and didn’t see you either.
Becky, if you are still looking for people with a more simple style using the core kit, please check out my blog. I have a few weeks posted, and a few more that will be posted soon. I am adding a few simple things like tape and twine, some die cut shapes from the papers and some printed embellishments from the digital kit. Hope this is helpful!
Hi Becky (and awesome team!), I just happened upon this post today when searching for something about Instagram. I thought it was so fitting (and funny) that I found it today, the day of Project Life’s TV debut!
(You know, since you said this wasn’t your season for TV). Did you think you’d be there — and at CHA — just a year later? Way to go! I am so proud to be a Project Lifer!
