Perhaps this notebook looks familiar to you?
This is my beloved Marimekko grid notebook that I picked up in Finland a couple years ago. I talked a little about it in a recent Feedback Friday post. I mentioned that I was almost to the end of its pages and couldn’t find the same notebook anywhere online. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for alternative options. The pages are filled with notes and sketches – mostly related to running our business.
Product ideas, sketches for product design, website design and organization, and obviously many other things.
Imagine my surprise when I received this package in the mail this week. A dear reader/customer in Finland decided that she would send me a replenishment of the notebooks! Seriously, this is one of the most thoughtful gestures ever. Johanna told me that we actually met each other when David and I were visiting Finland. We stopped by a scrapbooking event (crop) that was going on while we were there, where I chatted a little with the scrapbook-loving Finns. Johanna is now in her second year of doing Project Life.
The last part of Johanna’s enclosed letter reads: If you don’t need these notebooks, feel free to share them with your readers or with your kids. I don’t mind.
Um. Are you serious? I’m so stoked to have these – and so grateful. Trust me, I’ll put these to very good use!
She continues: I just wanted to express my gratitude. Project Life has made my life a lot more stress free. Now I can preserve memories fast and scrapbook the ones I want, not all the ones I need to.
And then, with all the warm fuzzies flowing through my heart at this point – I knew that I would absolutely want to pass along the kindness … from Johanna to another dear reader. So I’m sending the blue version of this notebook to one of you. Someone will be randomly selected and announced tomorrow when I do another giveaway for something totally unrelated.

I am going to cut some Forthysia (which I just learned how to spell right now) and bring it over to my friend who just had to go back to work and is away from her “babies” 9, 11, 13 and 20 for the first time. She is overwhelmed, stressed out and blue. Forthysia is that pretty yellow flowering bush that comes in early spring. I hope it cheers her up.

Oh my gosh, that is such a thoughtful story! My ancestors came from Finland, my great great grandfather was a reindeer farmer! I was blessed to have met (over the phone) a distant relative who shared with me stories of the family and another family line dating back to 1680. Needless to say I was thrilled! To have something sent directly from Finland would be so exciting to me!
My sister is my best friend, we work together and share the same hobby– scrapbooking. She recently lost her beloved dog, Maggie. Unbeknownst to her, I made a donation in her dog’s name to the ASPCA. I am in the process of making her a canvas collage of some of Maggie’s photos and in the corner will be a small notation of the donation made in her honor.

I have a bag of avocados I am taking to a friend whose son has Crones disease and I just found out he needs to eat these on a daily basis. I have 50 trees so while they are ready I decided to give her bags full to ripen and freeze so they will always have some for him. Little fact: avocados do not ripen on the tree, they have to be picked and let set for approx 10 days to ripen.

My favorite sketch paper is one I made and punched for my circa notebook. It is basically a piece of paper that is full of dots on a grid so you can use it as regular lined paper or grid paper.
I would love to try this one. No notebook goes unloved in this house.

I actually stopped to assist a woman today that was out of gas. She had a gas can, but no funnel. She asked if I had one and I didn’t, so she said there wasn’t anything else that I could do. I drove away and right into WalMart’s parking lot, purchase a 97 cent funnel and took it back to her. Such a small thing, but I’m sure to that woman waiting it was sweet relief.

I have been thinking about the topic of kindness a lot lately, and how if we take a minute to step back, pause, and be kind to each other the world will be a better place. But also what if we stopped minding our own business and started sharing with others the lessons we’ve learned in our lives. So for my act of kindness, I was talking to the owner of a store and she mentioned her daughter was trying to get into nursing school, I told her that I was a nurse at the children’s hospital. She said her daughter was discouraged because it takes so long to get into a program. Even though I didn’t know this woman or her daughter, I offered her my email address and asked her to have her daughter email me if she needed someone to talk to for advice or encouragement. I know what she is going through and I have lots of advice I’d be willing to give and time if she needed someone to listen. It made me feel so good to be able to pass on some wisdom. It’s so easy to get caught up in our own lives and in negativity. I’m trying to see the positive things that happen every day. I recently started a notebook and instead of “journaling” I’m writing down all of the things everyday that make me happy and that were good. Not only does this bring to my conscious that there are so many good things every day, but it helps me with my project life! When I sit down to create my layout for the week, I have reminders for my journal cards. and it’s turning my project life album into a more positive, happy space!

Today when one of my clients forgot her leather gloves at my clinic – I dropped them off with a fresh bunch of organic kale. I told the lady at the front desk to give this ‘bouquet’ to her along with the gloves. She had just told me a few hours earlier she had made a batch of kale chips and loved them! Funny how I did that random act today and come home and see this blog for the first time. Another one of my clients told me about project life yesterday and how she was using it!
