I’m not much of a shopper. Just ask my friends. I don’t live to shop. I don’t enjoy rummaging. I for sure don’t love trying things on. I think most things are overpriced.
I know. Sounds like I’m super fun to shop with, right? Actually, shopping with girlfriends really is fun for me, and this usually happens about once a year. I love their opinions. In fact, I rely on their opinions. Tell me yes or tell me no. Just tell me.
Anyway – yesterday I was on a mission. As a family, we hit our local Nordstrom Rack with a specific list of who needed what. I need black dress shoes. There were no black dress shoes. But here’s what I did find.
No – I didn’t buy the polka dots or the boots. I’m far too practical for that, and not nearly fun enough with my everyday style. But the green shoes? Oh, for the love of Chartreuse. You know this is like my “life color” that I can’t seem to escape. In fact, I’ve actually tried to not like it. I’ve tried to paint my office a different color. But I am just drawn to it and that’s that.
So I got the green wedges. On sale, of course.
And since I tie everything back to memory-keeping … I will tell you that I loved being able to snap a few pictures during my little decision-making. Because even if you don’t shop much, and even though obviously you don’t buy everything you look at, it’s really fun to see different styles that you’re drawn to for different reasons.
The polka dots and the boots may not be in my closet, but it’s still part of who I am in some small way.
It’s all part of my story.
Next time you’re at Target or the mall or the flea market or wherever, consider snapping a few pictures of things and styles that you’re drawn to. Simply because personal style is part of who you are.

great shoes! and I love very much shoes!! even if… I wear often the same pair of shoes, for reasons of comfort.
it’s so important to cultivate own style! it makes us different from others and unique.
Becky,
I love taking pictures like that now. You will look back in a few years and be glad you did to see the difference. It will be interesting when your kids get into college and those designs comeback in style and they think they are a “new” style. You can show them! When my daughters were in High School thought bell-bottoms were a “new” thing. Ha! I had pictures to prove other wise. They could not believe it!
Thank you for sharing and I “love” the green shoes.
Lori
Becky, green is the new black, right?
What a fun idea to snap pics of items you’re drawn to. I, too, see things I really love but wouldn’t consider buying/wearing, but nonetheless, love them! … like those polka dot shoes … swoon! They look SO fun!
Becky I love you ideas and I do want to do the journal but I can’t find a kit:(.. I saw this on a video and looked at amazon but all I see are the various tools not a complete set to order can you help me ? I wanted it in the Colbolt blue…and I wanted so badly to order one!!!! I am at your mercy!!!! Thanks!
OH I love LOVE this post….I SO get what you mean…you may not buy them BUT they are part of “you”!!! Love this Becky…thanks for sharing. AND I have lots of sage type green in my house, and STILL would paint it the same color!!!
Love this post because like you I don’t much like shopping for clothes…it is a necessary evil in my opinion!
That’s a really interesting thing to take a picture of! I like the idea.
I have major chartreuse shoe envy right now! I am so not a shopper either but am seriously loving those shoes, they are so my color and style. I would rather shop for scrapbook stuff or home decor items any day rather shop for clothes. I just took a pic of my friend and I in Target with all the colorful pottery they have out now, love!
Oh love your shoes…I however would have so gotten the boots!!! I have been to that store when I visit my mom. We also always hit Last Chance. You mentioned it a few years ago and my daughter loves it.
We are twins… I don’t love shopping either, but I love to be in style. Love
the pics!
LOVE the green wedges…wish I had a pair for myself!!
Shoes shouldn’t cost as much as the house payment! Love the green. The boots are super cute but way to warm for Northern California and although my husband would appreciate the black heels they would just gather dust in my closet!
Great choice Becky!
You sound like me when it comes to shopping – especially for shoes! I *love* the green ones you picked, btw. SO CUTE!
I love your pics and the caption!
Is it okay to take pictures in the store? I don’t have a smartphone, only digital camera. I am afraid to take it out and take picture. I am embarrased if people look at me and see that I am taking picture (moreover if I don’t buy it). Any good tips? Thanks!
okay, I have a random comment for you, but I can’t help it after a post like this. I took an online 3 hour class that teaches you how to dress and accessorize for your personality and personal style. Now I love to shop. I can shop quickly (and find things I love!) and and I can confidently decide for myself if I like what I see. No more dressing room trauma. Anyway, if you’re interested- here’s a link. Its on sale this month for cheaper than its ever been. I am not part of the company or anything, I just really love what I learned from them. Here’s my share link: http://jacki.dressingyourtruth.com/truefriend/
Its even spilled over into my scrapbooking style. LOL
Where did you find the chartreuse pair?
