Over at BigPictureClasses.com, they have a fun way of sharing teacher bios. Instead of this-is-where-I’m-from-and-what-I-do, each teacher shares very current snippets about who they are right now in this moment.
This got me thinking … this is such a fun + easy way to capture a quick bit of journaling that you and I could do right now, for our Project Life album … or any scrapbook we’re working on. Are you with me?
Here is a list of prompts I was given when I joined the collection of teachers at Big Picture Classes:
…..
{ challenge for you }
Fill in the blanks. Finish the sentences. Get these little snippets into your journal or scrapbook or somewhere. There are no right or wrong answers. Just follow the lead from each prompt and complete each sentence authentically. Be you. And then – pass along the challenge. Perhaps you’re feeling inspired right now, as I felt inspired by BPC. Share the list with your family members. This is a great little list of journaling prompts that anyone can do. Kids included.
Okay – I’ll start. Here is my list actually from my bio on BPC:
…..
i was … just thinking about how I need to be better about writing down my kids’ quotes.
i am … exactly between 30 and 40.
i think … I am incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by amazing women in my real life.
i wonder … what it would be like if I got 8 hours of sleep on a regular basis.
i wish … everyone knew their divine worth.
i save … Box Tops for my kids to turn into school.
i always … crave a little silence.
i can’t imagine … existing without my family.
i believe … everybody’s story is worth recording.
i promise … I really got a D in High School Photography.
i love … home.
i scrap … more simply than I ever have in my life and the result is that our family’s story is told more honestly, more accurately, more completely than ever in all my life.
…..
Of course I had the kids do this for their albums. I just wrote a handful of prompts on a 3×4 grid card and gave them a few minutes of quiet to fill it out. Simple. And now the card oozes their personality in every way.
Translations (to save you time, for those who want to decipher what they wrote):
PORTER: I am really smart, awesome, fast kid. I think that I have a great family. I wonder if (blurred) and (blurred) like me (I promised I would blur the girls’ names). I wish I could be my own secret super hero. I always thought I was a small kid. I never should meet a bad guy. I love my family. I believe that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live.
CLAIRE: I am six. I think that my future is true. I wonder if I can get another grandparents (four’s not enough?). I wish that I can have a house (she knows when she has her own, she can have as many pets as she wants). I always want to live. I never eat poop and pee (awesome). I love my family. I believe Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father.
No help from me. I so love these. And now they’re going in their albums (and yes, they are signed and dated on the back). Come on. Take two minutes, grab a little card, and write some “I” statements.

Those are absolutely precious. Thanks for sharing!
[...] saw this post on Becky Higgoins’ blog and I got the urge to write this down Right Now. With everything that’s happened the past [...]
So going to do this. I think it would be awesome to have my daughter do one every year on her birthday. It would show a progression and maybe start a tradition. Thanks for sharing!
I love Claire & her answers!
I am doing this today! Thanks for the inspiration!
Your kid’s answers made me laugh, and smile-so real and honest. I am doing this with my family! Thanks for sharing.
Such great news about the poop and pee, lol. I love the honesty of kids, I am going to try this with my son later (he’s 6). Can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
I never eat poop and pee either
I almost spit my favorite beverage when I read the “I never eat poop and pee.” So like my middle child – he happens to be 6 years old also. I think we’re going to do these today. part of my 12 on the 12th for this month is photos of my 5 kids… these will be perfect little compliments to that.
Copied it down for me ….. But then I want to do it with the grandkids also!!!
Love hearing them talk about their faith at such a young age! Warms my heart!
these are wonderful…and perfect timing…I had an empty spot on my page layout and was sitting here thinking what to put in it…this is so perfect!!…THANKS BECKY!!
I am SO RELIEVED to hear that your daughter “never eats poop or pee”. You know, she’ll THANK YOU someday for saving that.
Thanks Becky. These are perfect for how I feel today. Would love to try to get my 2 older boys to try them also.
This is such a great idea and the thing to get me started this time! Thank you!
Yet another Becky blog post that will get pinned over and over. Thanks for sharing – I will be doing this with my children over the weekend. My teenager will be thrilled….
I love your kids’ comments. “I never eat poop or pee”. Great to know! I love how kids think. Thanks for sharing.
HAHAHAHAHA! I took a break from reorganizing my scrap room to check your site. Claire’s “I never eat poop or pee” statement gave me the much uplifting laugh I needed! My little one is 3. I’m going to try it with her, but I’m not sure how well it will work. However, I will be doing this with my third graders at school. I make a class time capsule with them to be opened when they leave our school in eighth grade. I’ve been doing it since the school opened. This would be such a sweet thing to include for them to see in five years. I think it would be great to have them write them again in eighth grade before we open their time capsule…just to compare their answers before they graduate to high school.
totally love this!! hilarious :0
This is great! I just had my granddaughter answer questions about her mom (my daughter). In her “just turned 6″ mind, her mother is 2feet, 4inches tall. This is a great way for you to capture their quotes.
Such an awesome idea!!! Where would I be without you?
But more seriously, I was wondering how Claire is doing? I haven’t seen an update since the video you did. I’m not trying to be a nosy-nellie, just hoping she’s better, maybe even learning to walk again.
Thanks for sharing your inspiration! This is a terrific idea!!
How cute, did Claire say this because of Oreo? I no kids but I have been with a new puppy and feel surrounded by poop and pee so this stands out
Dying to find out how hard it was to house train Oreo? This was my first puppy so I am new to this part of the training. While I know they have accidents, I hope my puppy learns quickly
i cannot stop laughing at claire’s answers!! so sweet – what a treasure.
This is fabulous! I have to share! Thanks for your ongoing inspiration – keep it coming!

I love this, will be doing it with my three kids, ages 14, 4 1/2 and 3 and sharing it with others too. I love Amy’s (comment above) idea for the time capsules at school and will share that idea with teacher friends as well. Thanks Becky, your posts are always so uplifting.
Love this idea and so going to try it. Your kids are adorable.
So I am trying really hard to use all my PL products and put my printed pictures into plastics but I keep getting stuck because I am not sure how to proceed. I like to put pics in chronalogical order of when taken but, for example , if I have a few horizontals and a few verticals printed then I choose one page protector, but when I flip it over and go to do the next page I have all horizontal pics and they don’t work with that same page layout/ the back side. How do people get around this? I have worked with that issue with pics I am taking now by playing with them before printing to make it work but what tips do you have for working with pics you already have printed? I would love any suggestions as I feel stuck! Thanks so much!!
They are sooo adorable!! ♥
PS: Just wanna let you know that I finally jump in to try PL once my goodies comes from US, we can’t get the supply here so I need a little help from my sister at US to get them, but I believe it worth!
I love this and it really allows you (and others if you so choose) to see who you really are.
I was reading Porter’s card from the picture and just about started crying when I read the last line. SO special and what a testimony at such a young age. You are blessed indeed!
Just did this with my boys aged 5 and 6. Their answers were hysterical! Definitely something I will treasure when they have grown up.
Thanks for the great idea!
I want a do-over.
My only child just turned 26 and sad to say I was not a scrapper when she was growing up.
I took a ton of BAD photos but very little journaling after her first year
Oh how I wish I could have her 6 year old thoughts and handwriting to look back on.
Such a sweet memory to preserve.
If I could rewind time, I would do this activity at various ages and watch the changes as she grew.
I have often wished I had written down certain things at different stages of my life and see how my views change over the years. What I loved at 15 would be vastly different than what I loved at 25,35 etc. What I worried about at 21 (did I even worry at that age?) would be completely different than my concerns at 51. I will see if I can get my daughter to do this , it might be fun to see how things change for her as she continues to find her way in her adult world.
What a fantastic idea. Your children are adorable. You are blessed and highly favored indeed.
Beth! A fun mother’s day gift for both of you would be to start writing a journal that you send back and forth with questions, memories and random musings. Would be a lovely, life-long gift! Let me know if you need prompts/ideas/encouragement – I think it’s never too late to start recording the journey even if parts are told in retrospect
First, I am laughing so hard at little Claire’s answers!! Sounds like something my kids would say! So I guess we will find out. I am going to have my kids do these. Thanks for the absolutely precious idea!!
