a challenge to move in october.

If you’re like me – and you struggle to get regular exercise in your daily  life – perhaps a little challenge is just the push you need. My brother Andrew (who many of you also know as the amazing talent behind our website) has issued a challenge that has lit the fire under my feet.

Our oldest brother Jonathan would have turned 43 in October, so in honor of him the challenge will simply be to log 43 miles during the month of October. Walk, run, bike, swim… doesn’t matter. Just get out there and make it happen.

To join the official 43 for Jonathan challenge on dailymile, just sign up for a free account on dailymile.com and join the challenge HERE. And start moving. Remember: This is not a race to 43… just a challenge to get that mileage in during the month of October. Most of our family is participating and even some friends. You’re invited to join the challenge.

the more, the merrier.

Are you in?

Becky, what a great tribute to Jonathan. I am going to participate! If I don’t make it to 43, It will still be more miles than I’ve done in ages! I also have a Jonathan story I want to tell you…I was at CKU 2003 in Provo. I’m in the middle of remodeling my office and I can’t get to the pictures right now. But I am going to email you as soon as I can get to them. <3

Just joined daily mile and signed up. I needed a kick in the pants and this was it.
I will have to grab a few minutes on the treadmill quick before I head to work, not comfortable walking outside before daylight :( Thanks for the motivation !

  28. Krista says:

What a great way to honor your brother. I was working away & having the internal debate about whether I had time to exercise today. Thank you for pushing me out the door!

  29. JUST the motivation I need and October is the perfect weather for logging miles!

  30. Cari Anderson says:

Becky: I’m so sorry for your loss. That is way to young to pass! I am running in the San Francisco Nike Women’s marathon in two weeks (I’ll be doing the half…I’m not that crazy!) and will keep him in my thoughts. Situations like this remind me that my problems are so tiny and insignificant and that the greatest gifts I have are my life, my health, my friends and my family. We are all so blessed. Thanks for the reminder!

  31. Aby says:

What a lovely tribute Becky. I’m in. I’ll be running for your brother and my Dad. Thanks for the inspiration. ~ Aby

  32. Melanie says:

THANK YOU! This is JUST the challenge I needed. I just charted out my daily walk for the rest of the month.

  33. Amy McK says:

I’m so not a exercise buff or even someone who uses the word on a regular basis but I’m gonna do it! I’m gonna do it for Jonathan and for my Uncle Lynn who died of brain cancer two months ago.

  34. Kelly says:

Your family has been in my thoughts and prayers. I really don’t like exercise, but have signed
up as I think it is a very thoughtful tribute to your brother.

  35. Marne Clark says:

I am in! Yesterday I already logged in 6 miles…took my 3 year old for a bike ride for exercise…but then for FHE we took everyone to the corn maze, and that was quite the walk! My legs are jelly today. Thanks for the push…your family continues to be in my prayers. Miles for Jonathan!

  36. Mary says:

In memory of your brother Becky. Also, your words were also motivating. 6.7 miles between yesterday and today. It is getting me ready for an 8K in November. I will walk it in your brothers honor and all who have left us because of cancer, my Dad included.

  37. Abbeyviolet says:

I am joining the challenge and have finished four of my miles so far and am committing to at least one a day every day this October. I blogged about it a bit here too: http://athomewiththerichardsfamily.blogspot.com/2012/10/each-day-one-mile.html

  38. Cathryn says:

Did some walking this weekend and decided to join the challenge to keep me moving! Thank you!

  39. ckcpurple says:

I’m in!!! I’ll be 43 in December and I just started bicycling as part of a “Get Back on Your Bike” program through work. I just reached 45 miles total today for the past three weeks. I’ll gladly figure out how many of those have been in October and continue tracking my miles for the challenge.

What a great way to honor your brother’s memory!!! Thanks for letting us participate too!!!

  40. Tina says:

Becky, thank you! I needed this motivation. I am a (almost 17 month) breast cancer survivor. And like Jonathon I’m early 40s with young children still at home. The year of treatment was hard, but I’m thankful to still be here with my family. Today I hit the 46 mile mark! Whoot!!! I thought of Jonathon and his whole family while logging these miles. I think cancer survivors feel that we owe it to those who did not make it to go forward in our lives and find some good or do some good. Doing this challenge made me feel like I was doing just that. Thank you for the kick start, I plan to keep the fire burning and make some good in this world. All my best, Tina in Durham
