photo idea: slumber

What is it about sleeping children that is so beautiful? Is it just me – or do you feel the same way? When I see my kids passed out in random places, or tucked under the covers in their bed, I just pause. And look. And kiss their forehead. And say a quick silent prayer of gratitude that they’re mine.

And then I grab the camera.

I’m sure glad that my parents picked up the camera and captured me passed out too.

LOL, that picture of you upside down sleeping is hysterical! :)

I feel the same way! My two are pretty grown, and I still get the same feeling. When my oldest is home from college and safely tucked in his bed in our house, I have such a peaceful feeling. I actually added a photo of him in my PL album just a few months ago sleeping in his bed. It never gets old I guess~

Those are hilarious! And treasures, for sure. I can’t believe you could sleep upside down like that! You must have had quite a headache when you woke up!

  4. Sheri says:

Oh wow, by far the best upside-down sleeping I’ve ever seen. My kids never fall asleep anywhere but in bed…and even then, well….not as much as I’d like.

  5. Kristen says:

That upside down pic made me LOL! So cute. Precious times …. :)

That upside down picture is priceless. I love sleeping kiddo pictures. I have so many. :) My little ones are three and under so most of mine are sleeping baby pictures. Sleeping babies…so sweet!

  7. Sheryl Pyle says:

I love those random sleeping pictures. My kids were better nappers anywhere but in their beds so they would find places like your kiddos did. When they were little they even fell asleep in their high chairs a couple of times. Thanks for sharing those. Your upside down one is priceless..

I love the picture of you sleeping upside down! I too love watching my kids sleep. Even though my son is 9 years old, every night, before I go to bed, I have to check in on him. Sometimes he sleeps like I do. Sometimes he’s wrapped up like a mummy. Somtimes he even snores….My six-year old sleeps on the floor of her room or the bathroom, horizontally in her bed, on top of her stuffies. I love hearing her breathe softly as she sleeps. Thanks for sharing!

There is something about a sleeping child that is a reminder of what a great gift god has given us. Sleeping Angels.

  10. Fiona says:

Hilarious! I love seeing my kids sleeping. They also fall asleep in the most random places ;) I’m happy that I can capture those moments too!

    Fabulous reminder.

    One of my favorites ❤

My daughter used to sleep in different places too. She’s 15 now, but I found her in her toy box sleeping, on the floor at the one end of our pool table, of course I have pictures:) The one of your daughter reminded me of my daughter:) The one of you is pretty funny!!

  14. Lisa says:

These are priceless…OMG upside down AND looks like out like a light!!!

  15. Pam says:

Sleeping children (especially young ones) are very precious ~ it gives one “mommy” time! It’s cute when little ones, just fall asleep whereever they are … I have photos of my babies asleep in their high chair; one is even holding food in their hand!
Love those photos your mom took of you!

  16. Skye says:

When we are kids we can sleep in the weirdest positions…we become adults and try that and regret it with aches and pains! LOL

Now Claire choose to sleep the hard way in the chairs. If I did that as an adult, I would seriously have some issues getting up and walking. =-)

Becky— that is an interesting one from your childhood with your head on the floor and your legs on the sofa!

  17. Melody says:

I read your blog every day and never make comments but that photo is sooooo priceless! Do you still sleep this way….? :o )

  18. Serene says:

My son is 15 and I still get that feeling when I see him sleeping, only now his legs are longer than the bed. Those are some great pics both you and your parents took.

  19. Dawn B says:

I love watching my children sleep. Their innocent faces just make me fall in love with them all over again.

  20. Trina H says:

Thanks for the laugh – loved the photo of Claire and especially the one of you. Also, I too like to watch my kids sleep. I often feel that I have to pull myself away or I would stand there all day or night.

  21. Susan says:

Gee, I wonder where Claire gets her ability to sleep in uncomfortable-looking positions? :)

  22. Jewel says:

Sleeping kid photos are the best! They look so much younger when they are sleeping. Just this morning I wanted to take a picture of my son all snuggled in his bed but it was too dark in the room. Love your photos.

  23. LizPryz says:

Oh my gosh I totally know what you mean!!!! I have taken SOOOO many photos of my little boy sleeping. I sometimes wondered if I was weird or creepy for literally watching him sleep, but now I guess not! There’s definitely a look of serenity in the face of a sleeping child that makes you feel like, for at least that brief moment, all is right with the world.

  24. Emma says:

    Love it :)
my little one fell asleep at daycare with her head in the bag racks, lucky for me the lovely staff got a pic! Enjoy your weekend :)

  25. Topkatnz says:

I have always told people how perfect my kids were – especially when asleep!!lol I was only ever half joking because they always did seem so darned sweet when they slept, no matter how grumpy I was at them:)

  26. Amy P. says:

So cute! The picture of the one of you upside down made me smile!

  27. Sally says:

Oh my gosh — great pictures. And I have to agree — there’s nothing like the sweetness of sleeping children — at any age. My son is 18, and (since he doesn’t sleep well at night) he sometimes comes home from school, and takes a nap. I’ll find him all wrapped up in blankets, fast (and I do mean FAST!) asleep. I just stop and look at him… can’t believe he’s already 18. Precious moments. Psst… don’t tell him I told you =)

  28. Michelle says:

I love that pic of you passed out and hanging off the couch!

  29. Theresa says:

Love the pictures, especially the one of you upside down!! But I’ll never be able to capture these of my daughter… Though only 2 1/2, she won’t sleep until she’s neatly tucked in her bed.

  30. Laura BC says:

Sometimes I need the sleeping toddler picture to remind myself that they do sleep – especially after a hard not of calming them after a bad dream. I have many of my youngest with her bum in the air.

  31. Cheri says:

I thought I was the only one who did this! Love the photo of you upside-down.

  32. JeanD says:

I agree, they are so precious. My favourite though is one I didn’t take of my then 18 year old asleep on the floor “watching” the tennis (we had just got back from a long haul flight uk to Australia)
