Who puts pictures of them-self like this on the web? Seriously – who does this?
Apparently me. Yep. Totally me. Totally happy. Totally making homemade videos. Then. And now.
If it’s been a while since you’ve seen my Videos section, be sure to check it out. A few favorites to point out:
Each week in my Project Real Life class I have a video or slide show presentation there in the classroom as well. Class has been in session a week now. New content was posted to the classroom earlier today. If anyone is having last-minute thoughts about registering, it’s not too late. Big Picture Classes will close that door next Wednesday October 17.
It’s always exciting with a big shipment arrives at Amazon! I’ll be brief with my words, because I know many of you want to breeze through this fast – and get shopping. ; )
The follow items have been sold out and are now back in stock on Amazon. Remember: Only customers in the U.S. can order from Amazon, so if you live anywhere else in the world, check with your local distributor for product availability and timing in your area.
As for brand-new items … it’s all about the Month Dividers, friends! We have a designer set to coordinate with each of our existing editions (Cherry, Turquoise, Amber, Cobalt, and Clementine).
We even have Month Dividers for the 3 Baby editions! The actual Baby Core Kits are not due to arrive until December but if you want to grab these Month Dividers now, they’re available. And so very sweet.
Click on any image to take you directly to that item on Amazon.com so you don’t have to do a search from scratch. Everything you see here can also be found in our Products section of the website (we are currently working on updating the links there). In fact, if you want to see the Month Dividers in the context of the other items they’re designed to coordinate with (namely the Core Kit and Binder) – you can see all of that in the EDITIONS section.
Obviously what you’re seeing with these Month Dividers above, are graphics. Here are a couple real-life photographs to help you understand what they look like in person. They’re a very thin and made of a very crystal-clear plastic-like material, so as to not add bulk to your album.
Photographs are windows to our memory. Reflections of our life. Reminders of our blessings. Each Wednesday we feature 5 personal favorite photos from a Creative Team member or a friend. These 5 photos will remind of us why photography is so beautiful and why documenting the everyday is so important. The goal is to leave us all a little more inspired to cultivate a good life and record it.
Our inspiration this week comes from Creative Team member MaryAnn Perry. Here are some of her favorite tips – in her own words.
…..
Don’t stay in one spot when you take your pictures. Move around and get creative! Challenge yourself to take photos from different angles. By changing the angle in which you take the photo you can change the emotion and feel of the photograph.
When I took this photo I was actually sitting on the floor with my camera tilted upward to get the shot. I wanted to catch the girls looking at their daddy in awe as he told them about his job as a firefighter. The angle of the photo highlighted the emotion on the girl’s faces and emphasized the size contrast between my husband and girls.
…..
This was a totally random photo I took. I love handwritten notes and letters. I love to write and receive them. I get excited EVERY DAY to go to the mailbox. I know you can email and I know you can email pictures, but there is just something so much more fun about getting them in the mail. I think it is important to include photos of things we do within our everyday lives. We can make it different or more interesting by changing the angle in which we take the photo. In this photo I used a wide-angle lens and got in close to take the picture.
…..
Include pictures of your loved ones’ favorite hobbies. My husband plays the guitar and we love to hear him play. He is good for the short time that he has been playing and the girls and I recently surprised him with a new guitar. I wanted a photo of him playing… not something posed. For this photo I was on my knees, and had the lens focused on his front hand playing, so when I took the photo the rest of his body blurred slightly.
…..
This photo is from a pit stop during a recent road trip. The photo was taken at an angle just above my chest… is that technical…. hmmm well I was on my tippy toes…. to get the shot… my husband is really tall. But my point with this photo… is it’s an everyday shot but it tells a lot about my husband and me… It’s our favorite splurge snacks… only the ones reserved for a vacation splurge… that’s important and needs to be documented!
…..
Get down on their level. This photo was taken of my daughter early in the morning while she was playing with her train set. I was sitting on the ground on the same level that she was playing. This angle allowed me to let her play and still get the picture I wanted…. her playing trains. no cheesy posed shots… a simple reflection of our morning together…

The purpose of my blog is to share with you ideas on how to cultivate a good life – and record it. I hope that’s what you gain from coming here.
There is one thing I have always tried to be careful about. This is a quote from my blog last week (on Oct. 3):
Depending on how long you’ve been familiar with me, my brand, my blog … most of you know that my faith is at the center of who I am as a human being. I most definitely consider myself a religious person. However, it is not my style to shove religion down anyone’s throat. So much of my personal happiness is because of the principles I’ve learned in my life as a Christian – but I don’t expect everyone to share all my same beliefs. And I’m very respectful of the fact that probably every religion (and the lack thereof) is represented in my readership here. I love that.
I wanted to preface with this because today I watched a talk by a man – a leader in our Church – that I respect and appreciate so very much. As I was deeply moved by his message about Regrets and Resolutions I couldn’t help but feel very introspective. But I also couldn’t get you (my reader) out of my mind. What he shares is completely timely for so many of us, especially those of us who love the art of doing something with the memories we’re making and the lives we’re living. I thought about sharing some quotes, examples, and even my own feelings about what he said, and expressions of what I’d personally like to work on right now.
And then I realized that there is no better way to convey this message than to just invite you to watch with your own eyes, feel with your own heart, and decide what message is in here – for you. Something that you need to hear right here, right now. No matter what your religion or nationality or location or marital status. This message applies to each of us.
Part of cultivating a good life is opening your heart and allowing the wisdom of another be just the boost you needed right about now.
It’s here. The end of our big birthday week. (sniff sniff)
Thank you sooooo much for celebrating with us as you shared the Project Life love, did some shopping, supported us with your kind words, downloaded our freebie gifts, “liked” or “re-tweeted” or “pinned” what you saw around social media, and showered us with birthday wishes + testimonials + genuine gratitude. You have reminded us over + over this week why we do this. I feel grateful every day for a lot of things in my life. Mostly my family and my faith and my health. This little gig we’re doing is also a very special part of our life. You are a big part of our life.
To wrap up the birthday week we will announce lots of lucky of winners – but first – some news, my friends.

{ don’t fall off your chair }
I have joined Pinterest. You can see my pinboards HERE.
True story. I KNOW, right?? I resisted for soooo long. I really held out. I stayed strong. I stayed away. I made a very intentional choice to not “go there” because it’s so up my ally (images and ideas + organizing them all), that I feared I would be “sucked in” and there just isn’t time for more stuff in my life right now. You know? However … I knew all along that it would probably be a matter of time before it just made sense to bite the bullet and do it.
So I did it.
I’m there. I’m on Pinterest. I’m pinning. At least I’m trying to figure out how it all works. There’s not much yet, mind you. I’m JUST beginning – today, in fact – and you’ll see there are just a few things in there. But I will build upon this and hope that you enjoy this avenue of continued inspiration. Those of you have recommended I do this: You will be the excited ones about this news. And then … there will be a few of you who will undoubtedly say – What’s Pinterest? : )

Project life allowed me to tell the little, everyday stories that never would have made it into my traditional family album!-Amy Beatty
I was feeling so guilty that I had fallen behind on scrapbooking the events in my new daughter’s life. I felt overwhelmed and sad that I didn’t have the energy or desire to document some of her firsts. Then, my scrapbooking life changed when a friend directed me to your website. I was in love at first sight and ordered a kit to document my daughter’s birth story. Now, I have a personal baby book done “Project Life style” that I was able to complete quickly. I know my daughter will cherish it forever.-Jenny
Project Life has changed the way that I approach my scrapbooking. I was always a traditional paper and glue scrapbooker … but after completing my very first entirely digital Project Life book… I must say that I am hooked. This is easy, fast, and beautiful. This works for me and my busy lifestyle. I am still preserving my memories via stories and pictures. My only wish is that I had Project Life years ago when I had my first child!-Rosa Nissenbaum
Party people! It’s Thursday! Today is extra special for a few reasons. It’s Day 1 of my Project Real Life class. Totally did not to expect to wake up with butterflies in my stomach. What the heck? I’m so grateful that you feel good about your decision to sign up. Anyone else still interested can still totally register HERE. We haven’t closed that door yet.
But there is so much else going on today. We want to celebrate our 3rd birthday with a gift for YOU! And not just a few select winners. We want ALL of you to enjoy a little something from our team.

{ life quote cards }
You’ll notice that we have a shiny new featured freebie on the Free Stuff page; it’s the first thing you see on that page. Our amazing designers have pulled together a collection of Project Life cards that you can print at home – or you can have outsourced with your favorite printer (our favorite is Persnickety Prints) – and place the card in your Project Life album … or use it as part of a gift tag … or stick it on the fridge … or pass it along to a friend or …
The designers of these cards are from our Creative Team, our pool of product designers, and even our own marketing director (and resident techie guru) – Kari Holt. There are several designs to choose from, a variety of generic/life quotes, and they’re all available in both vertical and horizontal format, as well as 3×4 and 4×6 sizes. Take your pick, or grab them all! They’re free. They’re fun. They’re yours.
Speaking of the awesome-sauce Creative Team … the birthday celebration continues with more, more, more! You guys KNOW how much I love our Creative Team – collectively and individually. I love them. These are not folks I contacted and said, “Will you please use my products and share them with your readers?” No. It didn’t work that way. They already loved and used Project Life. They already had a passion for documenting life. They have a knack for solid photography, and a unique style – each with her own flavor.
Right now, each member of our Creative Team has a brand-new blog post that features thoughts & tips that you’ll enjoy. Plus – they each share a couple of their favorite add-on products. AND … we are giving those products away! Do you know what this means? Each of the 13 blogs will have a different giveaway opportunity! That’s crazy fun! So be sure to check out each one.
I used to be a traditional scrapbooker. Over the years I spent so much money on all the fun papers and embellishments that I ended up in terrible debt. This year, I finally faced my debt head-on. Starting January 1st, I decided not to buy any unnecessary items for an entire year. I called it my “Stopping Spree.” Of course I ordered my Project Life in December, so I could continue documenting my memories all year. I just feel that Project Life is such an economical way to preserve everyday life!-Kate
It’s been said that pictures are worth a thousand words. Then how much is a picture with words worth? In my opinion, it’s worth every minute that you spend putting it all together, because for every minute you spend making a scrapbook, you get the rest of your life and your kids’ lives to enjoy it. Project Life makes it all so easy, so clean and fast, and so fun.-Kathrine
Today I celebrated my grandmother’s 96th birthday with my family. NINETY SIX. It was such a special day for my family. My grandma was SO happy, and really looked like she was on top of the world this afternoon. When I got home, I grabbed a journaling card and wrote down how special today was, and how I will never forget the look of my Grandma’s face when we were all singing ‘happy birthday’ to her. She was BEAMING. I was so thankful to have an outlet for that memory. It makes me so happy I could cry to have that down on paper. Thanks again for all the wonderful work that you guys do. I already know that I am going to cherish my 2012 album forever.-Molly
Just a temporary post with a temporary message to let you know we’re experiencing a temporary delay. : )
Today we have something very special up our sleeve – a little birthday gift for all of YOU! Based on the timing of my other posts going live this week you may have expected to see today’s post around this time, so I just wanted to let you know … it’s coming.
We are mid-way through the big birthday week and today I want to focus on my online class – Project Real Life – which starts tomorrow, if you can believe that. Aaand give away 3 seats in my class! So keep reading.
{ being clear about a few things }
1.The purpose of this post is not to try to twist anyone’s arm into signing up for my class. We are not hungry for registered students. In fact, the number of students already signed up very much exceeded ALL of our expectations. And we are so very thankful and excited about that.
The purpose of talking about this class one more time before it actually begins is this: There are many of you still uncertain about whether or not this class is for you. You have questions. You are seeking for a little more information. I am more than happy to address those questions so that you might feel more informed about your decision. If you end up registering, that’s super. See you in class tomorrow. If not, I totally understand that this isn’t the right time or the right fit for you.
2. If you’re wondering about something that perhaps I do not address in this post, it’s quite likely that I’ve already answered the question in another post. I strongly encourage you to read this one.
3. I have poured my heart and soul into the content development of this class, and I have done so (and continue to do so) with great joy. But this is not a solo act. Please keep in mind that the value of this class goes beyond what I’ve prepared for you. Big Picture Classes is the platform and the infrastructure in place that allows me to focus on what I’m doing as an instructor. They are the logistics + the designers + the tech support + the editors + customer service + the classroom management pulling out all the stops behind the scenes. And I love them for that.
Persnickety Prints is my other amazing partner on this huge project. They graciously and enthusiastically accepted the invitation to provide each of my students with a set of exclusive Project Life cards (which Lili Niclass designed). And I love them for that.
But it’s just not that simple. Because the number of students grew and grew and exceeded our expectations, they have worked triple overtime – even brought in extra help – to make it possible for all my students to receive the set of cards. It has been an enormous undertaking and I am so very thankful to them. And, hello. Guess what they did!? They made this quick video to give you a little behind-the-scenes look at pulling off the project.
…..
{ your questions }
Will your class work for all formats of Project Life – digital, traditional & Shutterfly?
Yes. It’s more “conceptual” – so no matter what your format or style, you will certainly be able to adapt the ideas to whatever you’re doing.
…..
What will the class offer for someone who is already doing Project Life and is in a groove?
Putting together a Project Life album doesn’t require much instruction, so that’s not what this class it about. If you’re already doing Project Life, you will simply find yourself (I hope) thinking more along the lines of how you can cultivate a better life and document it … and this of course will fit right into whatever you’re already doing with your Project Life album.
…..
I have all the Project Life materials but am unsure where to start. Will this class help me?
For absolutely sure.
…..
Is there a lot of downloading involved?
A couple handouts each week is the standard downloading in my class. So no – not much downloading.
…..
I’m holding out for the Baby Edition. Will I be lost without having any Project Life items?
So you’re taking the class, but not actually planning to do any pages along the way? That is perfectly fine, and I think you’ll still feel like you benefit from the content. Warning: You will likely get the itch to document your “everyday” life in addition to your plans for documenting Baby’s life. Just sayin’. Bottom line: You do NOT have to participate in any actual activities or assignments or challenges or anything of the like. You can simply sit back and read, watch, and enjoy the content if that is what you prefer.
…..
I’m single with a very active life. I have done Project Life for 2 years but each time I stall around April, mostly because I don’t have enough time. If I sign up for PRL I think I am just asking for more disappointment – convince me!
I don’t want to convince you because then I feel like I would aid in setting you up for disappointment. Do not force this if it doesn’t feel right for you. That said, this is my convincing argument (*wink*): Forget about what you have done, or haven’t done, or wish you had done. Start with right here, right now. Come along with me on this journey to document your here & now, instead of focusing on the stalling that happens in April each year.
I don’t take a picture a day, or even a week. Will this class help me with my kids’ baby books or something else that is not a “365″ project?
As I said above, you totally don’t have to go along with my daily and weekly prompts and challenges for documenting your life right now. If you are strongly interested in focusing solely on using the Project Life products for your kids’ baby books or some other theme, I do touch on that – but it’s not a huge focus. I won’t be talking a lot about my products, actually. I mean – yes, I recommend using the Project Life system for organizing and keeping your photos + memories, but I’m not digging in deep about how you can use this product and that product – because they’re really so self-explanatory.
…..
How fast does your internet have to be? I live in a rural area and still have dial-up.
Our classroom area was designed with simplicity and load-time in mind so that everyone can enjoy these classes. We will include an option to view transcripts of both the video files and live chats, in case load-time is cumbersome with your connection speed. All downloads are saved at a manageable file size. All students will be able to view the classroom pages quickly & easily.
…..
Can you share more of the content your class will cover?
Each week is a little different. Some weeks are very philosophical with my own thoughts on cultivating a good life – and how to go about working on specific areas in your life. Some weeks I’m way heavy on the video or slideshow content and give you lots of visuals. Some weeks I’m really tip-driven and you’ll get loads of tangible ideas to apply in your life. Some weeks I’m fun. Some weeks I was moved to tears as I pulled together my thoughts for you.
My class is less about my products and more about cultivating a good life and recording it.
I came across a blog post that someone published just yesterday. She is a recently-divorced mother of two who felt compelled to share why she signed up for my class. This is a quote from Maughansters, Inc. (that’s the name of her blog): Part of what actually spurred me to just sign up for the class is I want to create the life I’ve always wanted. I fully recognize that a class and/or another person cannot create the life I want for me. That is something I need to do for myself. But I hope that through this class and learning and recognizing how to prioritize and organize, that I’ll recognize ways to create the life I want. -Stacey May
I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m not pretending to be a life coach or therapist. But I do sincerely hope that my class (including the interaction with fellow students) results in some introspection for each of my students. And of course more thoughtful picture-taking. ; )
…..
Does religion makes for a big part of the class?
Very interesting this came up, and I’m happy to address this. Great question.
Short answer: I focus on principles – not religion. Once in a while you might hear words like “blessings” or “prayer” or I might even quote a scripture. But I’m not your Sunday School teacher in this class.
My goal for you in taking this class is that you feel enriched, motivated, and inspired to cultivate a better life – and truly liberated in the way you approach the documentation of that life. You will get a healthy dose of my personal real-life insights about both of those areas – creating and documenting a good life.
I should note that if anyone genuinely wants to know more about my beliefs, I’m always happy to chat about that and will gladly do so. But I don’t use my blog or my classroom to get preachy. : )

Does BPC offer a payment plan?
Unfortunately, BPC does not offer a payment plan for classes at this time.
…..
Will I still get your exclusive cards if I sign up this late in the game?
Today is the last day to register for the class if you want to receive the happy mail (package of Project Real Life cards) from Persnickety Prints. If you sign up AFTER today, you will have access to the digital files for these cards inside my classroom. Just to be clear, allPRL students will have access to the digital files. BPC is officially closing registration on the class October 17 so you still have a couple weeks to decide if you want to be a part of the class … and you can always “catch up” on the first 2 weeks of content if you join us late. That’s not a big deal.
Everyone already registered in the class should have received an email explaining about the shipping times for the set of cards. Some of you have received them. Some of you will get them really soon. Some of you have another week or two because you registered later, or you’re international. Please know that it’s so not the end of the world if you don’t have the cards this week. I promise. You can slip them in later. It’s truly okay. : )
…..
I want a Project Life edition that isn’t back in stock yet. Do I need to have this in time for class to start on Thursday?
Nope. You’re going to be just fine. Everything that can possibly be done behind-the-scenes to get the Cobalt and Amber Core Kits back on Amazon, is happening. (The Cherry, Turquoise, and Clementine are all in stock.) Cobalt & Amber are very, very close and I think it’s safe to say we’ll see these become available about this time next week.
…..
I understand you will have video presentations. But I’m deaf. Will you have transcriptions available?
Yes – BPC provides transcriptions in the classroom.
…..
I don’t know if I have enough time for the class each week. Can I really add one more thing to my life?
The beautiful thing about how my classroom is set up, is that anyone registered in my class has access to the content indefinitely. It’s yours to refer to over and over and over. You don’t have to “keep up”. You don’t have to sign in every week. You just do what you need to do, prioritize what you need to prioritize, and when you have a few minutes to pop in and check out what’s been added since you last checked – super. If you don’t have time until after the holidays, that’s A-OK. Of course you’ll miss all the timely tips that fit with the week we’re in … but there is plenty that is still totally applicable year-round.
There is no set “time” that you have to be anywhere. New content is added to the classroom every Thursday – but you’re not obligated to be there that day. Know what I mean? We’ll see you when we see you. This is a NO PRESSURE classroom. I will be doing 3 live chats, but we’ll share more information about that as the class moves along.

The awesome thing is that you do what you do with love. While it can be super time consuming {and all consuming, I’m sure} it is clear that you are passionate about every aspect of your business and that shows to everyone you have contact with. You can tell by reading through comments on your blog and Facebook that your customers continue to be amazed at your willingness to respond to feedback and your desire to provide them with the very best products – from thoughtfully designed packaging to completely versatile designs. You are not only a remarkable individual but you truly stand out in the business world. If more business owners ran their companies the way you (and David) do and cared just a portion of what you do for your products and customers, the world would be a better place … true story. -Kari
I love and adore Project Life. Almost every Sunday as I finish up the previous week, I find myself looking back through prior weeks. Little things I’d forgotten about are remembered and usually bring a smile to my face. I find myself almost every day searching for some small aspect of life that I usually overlook. Something to document because those are always the things I always find interesting about my grandparents. From the new TV stand, to the price of gas, to my breakfast of DD glazed donuts and coffee, these are thing little things that will never make it into my scrapbooks. But, now they’re here. And they’ll be here for my children and grandchildren and great grandchildren to see. -Amy
Project Life is impacting our quality of life! What I realized is that PL motivates me to get off the couch and do things! It makes for a more interesting album, and a more interesting life. So on weekends or special days, I’m constantly thinking about what we could do in our home or community that will make me look back and say… “Wow, we did a lot of things.” It makes my kids more rounded and healthy, and it makes me feel like a better mom. PL motivates me to get out of a rut and really live. Thanks! -Beth

The week-long celebration continues! Today I invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy a short video that is less than 5 minutes long … and that has nothing to do with Project Life. Today we’re talking home decor and DIY and I’m sharing a behind-the-scenes look at our “memory niche” in the kitchen of our home.
A few things to point out that I didn’t really cover in the video:
1. PHOTOS: WHAT’S ROTATING? On a typical day, you’d see everyday family pictures rotating on these TVs in our kitchen. During the holidays we usually have photos of that particular season from past years rotating. And of course for special events, we cater to the occasion. In the video, there were just a few rotating photos of the kids because we just had a combo birthday party for Claire, Crew, and our dog Oreo a few days ago. Just a few weeks ago we had a bunch of silly photos of our friend Allison as we hosted her 30th birthday bash at our house. Last year we hosted a friend’s 40th surprise party and his family dug up all sorts of old photos of him that we displayed. When visitors come to stay with us, we usually try to sneak a few pictures of them in the rotation. We constantly mix it up.
2. WIRES: WHERE DO THEY GO? Well, they plug into the wall. Go figure. We put a power outlet behind the “door” so there were no wires hanging out anywhere. Nice and tidy. The third wire is actually a cable wire – in case David did decide one day to have a game playing in the kitchen. I haven’t caught that vision yet, but I suppose it’s not completely out of the question.
3. JOHN: HOW CAN YOU HIRE HIM? Now obviously I don’t expect most of you to take on a project like this. But … I also know that a few of you will likely be interested in doing something similar in your home. If you happen to live in Arizona and happen to need any woodwork done, John Broderick is the man. He is genius with anything wood and has done a few amazing projects for us. bbfurn@juno.com | 623.566.2232. I’m sharing this with you like I would share a great resource with any friend. Not because John asked me to say anything but because he is just so darn talented.

If I could describe Project Life in one word it would be SIMPLE. I love the fact that all I have to do is snap a pic, print it out & journal. I will never be one of those people who says “Gosh, I’m so behind on my scrapbooking…” Project Life has allowed me to enjoy the creative aspect of traditional scrapbooking, but with no more stress! -Carolyn Farnsworth
I loved the idea of taking a picture everyday and documenting daily life. I decided to do this as a way to show my husband what the year was like for us while he is deployed. It will be great to have this album as a way for us to look back at what we did while he was away. There is no way I would take on a project like this without the Project Life system. It is so beautiful and makes it so simple. Thank you for such a great product! -Cassandra Wiscarson
I love it!! I love how simple it is. I love how it can be used in a million different ways! I love how my family can get involved… grab a journaling card and add a piece of them! I love how I don’t have to think about making it “look great” because it already does! I love how it makes me think of those little moments to capture… instead of ‘just’ those big events! But most of all… you said it perfectly… it’s my story… my way. I love it!! -Nicole V

All I can say is that I believe God has heard your call because He certainly placed it on my heart to respond. It was loud and clear. And when He's involved, great things far beyond what you and I can comprehend will occur and I pray that gives you peace today and the days to come.

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is that small voice at the end of the day that says 'I will try again tomorrow' " - Mary Anne Radmacher - The last year has been really difficult for me, but this quote always seems to help. I hope it helps you and your family, as well. Don't forget, miracles really do happen. Hang in there and keep your chin up.
