12 videos of Christmas: no. 5

Friday, December 14th, 2012

I have to believe Monica Bradford of Kansas City, Missouri had a blast making this video. Obviously our team loved this little number that she pulled off – and we think you will too.

In Monica’s own words: I just had to hop on the pop culture band wagon and create my own version of the Call Me Maybe craze. Call it an ode to my favorite scrappy supplies. Or a gal so happy to have both boys in school and the days to herself that she just has to sing it from the mountaintops. Or just call it Monica being super silly. But whatever you call it… Call Me Maybe!

12 videos of Christmas: no. 4

Thursday, December 13th, 2012

Eliu Hernandez of Broomfield, Colorado entered our video contest with this comment: “My sister, Eliza, is a Project Lifer and suggested, insisted, I enter your contest.” We’re glad he did! To create this proposal video for the love of his life, Eliu took more than 800 photos over 10 hours on a weekend. He used 4 boxes of crayons, a dollar bill, and a bunch of change. He also used a lump of coal that he borrowed from her dad a year and a half ago (an idea marinating in his head for a while) and a broken salad dressing bottle. It added up to a 2.5-minute video, a very sore neck and back, and a feeling of complete satisfaction for Eliu.

In Eliu’s own words on Nov. 22: I’ve enjoyed making stop-motion videos for a while now and I’ve been playing with this idea in my head for several months. I had a man-cation last week as my girlfriend was away on vacation for a few days. I showed it to her yesterday. It made her cry right about the time I got a bit of dust in my eye. She said ‘yes’ and we’re now celebrating with family for Thanksgiving weekend.

12 videos of Christmas: no. 3

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

Oh my stars. Kris Murray. Does this name ring a bell? She was one of our unforgettable video contest winners last year and if she ever decides to NOT enter, I’ll head to Alberta, Canada and go knocking on her door. If you missed last year’s video, catch it here. Pure awesomeness in documenting the everyday.

Kris seriously needs to be my next door neighbor. I don’t know her personally, but I love her. I love how she documents. I love how you can tell she loves her role as a wife and mother without trying to paint it as some rosy journey. In her own words:

As soon as I heard this song by Go Fish Guys, I could just imagine my life as a music video to the song and wanted to get started on it so bad! But, I am a procrastinator and only seem to be motivated by urgency. So, I kept putting it off and onto the back burner ONLY until I read about the 12 Videos of Christmas contest. BOOM! Urgency! Instantly motivated. And I got ‘er done! I love a good contest, but I also need a kick in the pants when it comes to making sure I take time to document my BLESSED, beautiful life!

the baby editions have arrived

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

We are tickled pink (… and blue … and yellow …) to announce that all 3 Baby Editions of Project Life have arrived at Amazon! FINALLY. Thousands of us are going to get those baby albums DONE. I know I’m not alone here. It doesn’t matter if your baby’s still a baby or a teenager or 24 years old or …

It works. It’s a solution. It’s simple. Gorgeous. Easy to use. Loaded with prompts so you know what to write about. Loaded with insanely cute filler designs when you don’t want to say anything at all. The Baby Editions are flexible enough that it works for twins (or other multiples), for adopted babies, for pretty much any situation surrounding the start of a new life. It’s really geared to everything that happens in that first year. One year in an album. And yet – flexible to be more or less than it was designed to be. Versatility, baby.

The Baby Editions are seriously awesome. I’m soooo excited for this. I developed these products for my own needs – and yours. Everybody wins!

Okay – enough chit-chat. Here are the links on Amazon. Just click on the product you like and it takes you straight there. We are finding that when you do a search from scratch on Amazon, they’re not as easy to find because they just showed up in the system.

As for the coordinating pieces …

The 12×12 Designer Paper that coordinates with each edition is about a week out from arriving at Amazon.

The Designer Dividers that coordinate with each edition are IN STOCK now [  Neutral  |  For Him  |  For Her  ]

Little boxes of Textured Cards? We don’t have those for the Baby Editions, sorry.

As for Binders? There are no matchy-matchy Project Life baby-specific designs. I personally think our White Signature Binder would be lovely with all 3 editions. And … here are some 12×12 3-ring albums from American Crafts that I think will work awesome as well. Some link to Amazon, some to American Crafts … but you can also do a quick google search to find competitive prices, or see if your local craft/scrapbooking shop carries them. Or you can use another binder that you love.

FOR HIMCasade  |  Leaf  |  Chestnut with Diamond

FOR HERRaspberry with Embroidery  |  Blush Flower  |  Leaf with Embroidery

NEUTRAL - Shadow  |  Sunflower  |  Ash with Embroidered Window  |  White

…..

Check out a sample baby album

The other day we shared sample pages with the Baby Edition for HIM – created by Amanda Caves. Here are some sample “neutral” pages created by Catherine Davis – using cards from the Baby Edition (neutral). Of course we’ll also be sharing sample pages using the Baby Edition for Her soon as well.

…..

A note for customers Down Under

For those of you in Australia, New Zealand, and surrounding areas … I just wanted to pass along that our fabulous distributor/stockist Craft House is supplying a free set of physical cards with alternative spelling for the Baby Core Kits for all orders that have been placed or will be placed before Christmas! (We updated the art on a few of the cards so that it says Mum instead of Mom and favourite instead of favorite, etc.) They will send these to customers in probably a couple weeks from now.

In case you missed it – we do offer these as digital FREEBIES for anyone, anywhere in the world who wants those cards with alternative spelling. They are specifically from/for the Baby Editions of Project Life.

And one more note for those Down Under: The expected ship date to customers on the Seafoam and Olive Core Kits is the first week of January.

Anyone anywhere in the world with further questions – please be sure to contact your local distributor directly.

…..

Happy Shopping!

As for everyone in the U.S. … head over to Amazon and grab what you want! Baby Editions are in stock!

the final installment of inspiration from our 2012 creative team

Monday, December 10th, 2012

I’m not saying this is the final inspiration you’ll ever get from these wonderful ladies. Heck no. They’re all constantly sharing on their respective blogs and through other social media, classes, and other things they do. But this is – (I hate to say it) – the final official Project Life Creative Team inspiration post from our 2012 team. Next week we will announce our brand-new 2013 Creative Team.

As usual with the monthly offering of inspiration, I will share just one glimpse from each of their respective Project Life albums. And then – whenever and wherever you want to see more – just click on the person’s name and it will take you to their blog where they each share more details, more information, more pages, more examples of how they’re using Project Life as a memory-keeping system.

We completely adore how each person’s style is so unique – in photography, with their journaling, and how they bring it all together in their albums. As you see how others are doing Project Life, our hope is that you will feel an increased desire to document life, and that you’ll be more in tune with what your own personal style is. No matter how you slice it, it’s all good. It’s your story.

Be sure to stay tuned on the blog this week. Not only do we have one more final “surprise” from our 2012 Creative Team, but we have more from our 12 Videos of Christmas series, and the Baby Editions of Project Life are expected to arrive on Amazon this week – so full updates will be right here on the blog.

12 videos of Christmas: no. 2

Friday, December 7th, 2012

Just as Santa has his elves, I have my team. I could absolutely, positively NOT do all of this without them. We are few in numbers – but man, they are the BEST. As in – for real. The best. So Brandi is my Project Manager (and my dear friend). Organizing and sorting through all the submissions we get on a regular basis is a project. Specifically, the 12 Videos of Christmas contest is indeed a project. And of course she has done such an amazing job helping to narrow down the selection (I personally hand-picked the final winners), contacting everyone, and everything else involved in the project.

So imagine my delight when Brandi slipped her OWN video into the submissions. Like I said when I announced the contest, ANYone was eligible to submit and she took that seriously … and made a video that’s completely not serious at all. Pure fun. Pure adorableness. With her very best friend (and other dear friend of mine) Allison. They got together in New Mexico over Thanksgiving and did what they love to do the most when they’re together: Laugh, dance, and make videos.

Equipment: JVC camcorder & Canon Rebel dslr  (created with Windows Live Movie Maker).

…..

Speaking of Brandi and speaking of submissions (since she manages that inbox) … I’ll remind you that submissions@beckyhiggins.com is the place to email when you want to SHARE with us:

- your Project Life pages

- your inspiring everyday photo ideas (I post one nearly every day on facebook + twitter)

- your ideas for what would be a great blog post

We are constantly on the look-out for what YOU are doing, how YOU are cultivating a good life and recording it, how YOU are photographing everyday life. Don’t be shy.

12 videos of Christmas: no. 1

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

It’s that time again!

We are kicking off our annual tradition of the 12 Videos of Christmas! You can see some of our videos from the past couple years on our Videos page any time. The idea with this tradition on BeckyHiggins.com – and what it has evolved to become – is that throughout the month of December, on 12 random days, I will share a video. These 12 videos are meant to teach, inspire, entertain, or enlighten you – or just give you a 5-minute break from the routine of your day.  : )

They’re not all specifically about Christmas. Some videos have nothing to do with Christmas at all, but we are sharing the full collection during the holiday season as one little gift to you – my readers, our customers, our friends. This year almost all of the videos that we are featuring were submitted by those who heard about our little contest back in early November. As much as I love making videos, I am truly in the thick of so much product development, that I promise you want me focused on that (and enjoying the season with my family of course) – rather than making videos. And trust me – I have plenty of video ideas up my sleeve for the coming months.

Today we are kicking off the series with a video that will make you either A) wish you thought of this 10 years ago or B) inspire you to do something like this starting right now – whether it’s centered around Christmas or another holiday or a birthday or something else. This was submitted Craig Haslam in California on behalf of his family – his wife Traca and their children Clara, Luke, Eve – whom you will see grow up right before your eyes in this time lapse video. So very cool.

Video shot with a Canon DV camcorder.

Note: I was curious if Craig knew much about my brand or website or products and he said, “Traca has done some scrapbooking over the years, but we just found your blog and contest through a google search for Christmas video contests. I’ve been checking your blog for updates, and I really like your projects and products. We may become Project Lifers too!”

Um – guess what Craig? Be careful what hints you drop because we are so going to hook you guys up with a full Project Life collection so that you can experience first-hand what Project Life can mean to your family … and how much time it can save Traca in the scrapbooking department! Plus – your kids are old enough to be involved too, writing some of your family memories in their own handwriting on our Journaling Cards. Can’t wait to hear how that goes for you! Thank you for inspiring us with this fantastic and incredibly sentimental video idea.

oh, baby. we’re getting CLOSE.

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012

You know exactly what I’m talking about. I’m just as anxious as many of you who are counting down the days until the Project Life Baby Editions arrive! I just got word on the shipping status I think we’re looking at NEXT WEEK as the likely arrival of our Baby products on Amazon! I don’t know the specific day, but if you are following me on facebook, twitter, or instagram I’m really good about updates and will totally keep my readers posted as I always do when new products show up.

International customers: Since our products on Amazon are available only for U.S. shipping, I encourage you to check with your local distributor because I’m pretty sure the Baby Editions are already shipping all over the world (or just about to). Yippee!

…..

Want a sneakity-peekity at an actual Project Life Baby album?? First of all, I published a big post back in August with LOADS of images and even a video. This will definitely paint a picture of our Baby Editions so be sure to check it out. But hot-off-the-press this morning (okay, so no actual presses were involved) … I am very pleased to share with you the first customer-created baby album!

It went a little something like this: We are always on the look-out for Project Lifers via social media and that’s how we noticed Amanda Caves. When I received a few products straight from the factory, I hand-selected 3 Project Lifers to make sample pages for our Inspiration page where we show sample albums. Amanda received the “For Him” edition and you’ll find out soon about the “For Her” edition and the neutral baby edition. Amanda happened to compete her pages lightening-fast (like, over a weekend I think?) … because Project Life is that simple and fast … and she has already blogged about it!

So … without further adieu … please hop over to Amanda’s Blog and check out her baby boy’s Project Life album!

I’ve said it once (or maybe a few times) and I’ll say it a million times over: The Baby Editions of Project Life are a dream-come-true for any parents who want to create a scrapbook of their baby’s first year without all the hassle and fuss that oftentimes comes with traditional scrapbooking. Slip your photos in the pockets. Add some written notes and memories to the already-designed + already-cut cards and slip those into pockets too. That is all.

Best thing since the binky, if you ask me.

project life digi designs on a NEW site!

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

Ladies and gentlemen … okay, who am I kidding? There’s probably like one guy reading my blog.

Ladies … are you ready for this? The BABY Editions of Project Life are now available in DIGITAL format! TODAY!! But wait – there’s more. Along with this announcement comes another announcement (because we’re fun like that). Introducing …

What is AC Digitals and what does this have to do with Project Life?

I’m glad you asked! Today is the launch of a brand-new scrapbooking site specifically for digital awesomeness from the following brands, all part of the American Crafts family. And since Project Life is now going to hit retail shelves in Spring 2013 thanks to American Crafts … we are a part of that family! (group hug)

And in case you didn’t realize … the ever-so-popular brands of Amy Tangerine and Dear Lizzy are part of the American Crafts family as well. Their stuff will be popping up all over ACDigitals.com and in fact – Amy’s Ready, Set, Go collection is available TODAY!

It is with much enthusiasm that we share this news with you today. We’ve been working hard behind-the-scenes to create a site that was clean, organized, simple, user-friendly, full of awesome digital designs, and priced to be affordable. And speaking of affordable … we want to kick off this announcement with a BANG! Everything that we have in store during this week’s Grand Opening is 25% off!! Um, hello.

Let me be sure that I’m clear about this: The BABY Editions of Project Life are 25% off this week!! So not only are they available for the first time ever, but they’re on sale too! questions | answers

Q: When is the physical product for those Baby Editions showing up?

A: We expect to see these arrive to Amazon in the next couple weeks but until we receive further information, I don’t have a date yet. We anticipate that you’ll be able to get the Baby Editions in time to put under the Christmas tree if you’re planning to do that. We are trying really, really, really hard to get the other editions (Olive, Seafoam, Childhood) here quickly as well but they’re a bit behind Baby and “late December” is all we know right now. If you are outside the U.S. you’ll have to check with your local distributor for timing.

…..

Q: I’ve been sleeping under a rock. What are the Baby Editions of Project Life?

A: Oh, just the best. thing. EVER. Sounds like you missed my big reveal back in August. Have a look at this video and you’ll be totally in the loop. If you don’t have time for a 20-minute video, it’s basically the awesomeness of Project Life (simple, fun, pocket-based memory-keeping system) but sooo many of the cards that come in the Core Kit actually have specific journaling prompts to help you really document lots of fun details and anecdotes about Baby’s First Year. Truly, this is the ultimate baby shower gift or gift for any mama who hasn’t documented their baby’s first year – whether their baby’s still a baby – or in college now. It’s that cool.

…..

Q: I’m all about the physical product with no interest in doing digital pages, so why would I care about ACDigitals.com?

A: If you want a heads-up on some of the designs + colors + details +  journaling prompts that are on the Baby cards, consider all the images you’ll see on ACDigitals.com as sneak peeks for what you’ll soon have in physical format. Aaaannnnd … if you prefer “alternate” spelling to some of the words we have in the Baby Editions (ex – Mum instead of Mom, favourite instead of favorite) – those cards are all there for you … right here … for FREE. Some of you outside the U.S. have requested that and we’re happy to make those available. Because we’re nice like that.

…..

Q: What about JessicaSprague.com – I thought that’s where your digital stuff was sold?

A: We initially made our Project Life digi designs available at JessicaSprague.com and we are very grateful to them for helping make it possible when we really weren’t equipped to do it on our own in the earlier days. This new partnership with American Crafts brings about many changes. So so so many exciting changes. One of those things is the launch of this new site to bring all of the brands under the AC umbrella in one place – all shiny + new + beautiful. Hugs to Jessica + her peeps.

…..

Q: Some stuff here, some stuff there?

A: All Project Life digi products that were already on JessicaSprague.com are still there – and will remain there through December 31. Then we’ll move them over to ACDigitals.com and we’ll keep you updated during that transitional time. All NEW Project Life digi products that are showing up now and in the future will be on ACDigitals.com. So today we’re launching with our 3 Baby Editions (For Him, For Her, and the gorgeous neutral colors) and other new designs are showing up soon too! After January 1, Project Life digi products will be found in one spot + one spot only – ACDigitals.com.

…..

Q: So what about the Olive Edition, Seafoam Edition, and the Childhood Editions?

A: Yep – they’re on their way to ACDigitals.com too – and soon! In fact, we are launching new designs EVERY MONDAY in December – so definitely check back each week!

…..

Q: I know American Crafts, Pebbles, Crate Paper all have more collections than what I’m seeing on ACDigitals.com today. Will we see more?

A: Absolutely – and we’ll be adding more + more … and more … over time. Mondays are the magical days that we release new stuff so check back each week!

…..

And because I know you’re excited about all of this, I know you’re wondering how you can follow AC Digitals through social media so you don’t miss a thing!

Twitter: @ACDigitals
Instagram: @acdigitals

Head on over and check out the beautiful new site, the Baby Editions, the freebies and giveaway opportunities, and all the other fun stuff from the other brands too! Wait, what was that about freebies? Yes – we have a handful of FREE Holiday 3×4 Project Life Cards calling your name. Right here. Right now.

…..

giveaway. of course!

And speaking of free … it’s not a true Grand Opening without a giveaway, am I right!? Leave a comment with your first name + city + state/country and we will choose 2 winners this week who will win the full collection of the Baby Edition digi elements (winners choose between neutral, For Him, For Her). Winners will be announced next Monday at the bottom of this blog post so be sure to check back!

…..

If you love what you see, there are lots of people who have helped make this possible – from the designers to the brands to the American Crafts team to my brilliant husband David. But there are 2 people in particular who have just really put in most of the elbow grease on this project and they not only have the rockin’ skills to boot, but they are the sweetest girls and we’re so very blessed to have them as a part of our family! Thank you Kari and Laurie!! You both need a serious nap this week.

(The logo one more time … because we’re so stinkin’ excited)

…..

we have 2 winners!

Congratulations to Stacia in Redmond, Washington and Erin in Winnipeg, MB Canada! Email kari@acdigitals.com and she’ll hook you up with the digital elements for the Baby Edition of your choice.
