Giveaway: Ruby Bloom Boutique

So did you see Lisa Bearnson on HSN selling Project Life? Didn’t she look amazing every single segment, with all those darling outfits? I definitely thought so. What’s really kind of fun is that most of what she was wearing was from Ruby Bloom Boutique, which is run by our friend Loni Stevens and located in Utah but – lucky for the rest of us – they have an online shop.

Guess what? Ruby Bloom is giving away a $50 gift certificate to one of my readers!

Ruby Bloom Boutique is a new online boutique that focuses on women’s clothing, sizes Small to Large and XL-XXXL. Sometimes finding stylish plus-sized items can be especially hard and Ruby Bloom wants to take the challenge out of it for you by hand-selecting pieces that help you feel chic and beautiful – and allow you to embrace the skin you’re in. They order a limited amount of each item so their store stays fresh and current. If you love it, don’t wait. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

One lucky winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Ruby Bloom Boutiques’ online store. This is open to everyone, anywhere in the world.

You know the drill. No gimmicks or requirements when I host a giveaway on my blog. Simply leave your first name, city, state/country – and that’s it. We will randomly select and announce a winner and add it to the bottom of this post on Monday – so be sure to check back!

slowing down

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

Last week we were able to get away as a family – just the 5 of us – and head to the middle of nowhere for some much needed down time. We went to a dude ranch in southern Utah (and seriously … driving there, you really are in the middle of nowhere).

We played + explored + relaxed + rode horses + did archery + clay pigeon shooting (I nailed it on my first shot and was DONE) + hiked + rested some more + were fed home-cooked meals (I’m a believer in no cooking on vacation) + hung out with the locals + the kids roamed around on the property making up games + befriending every animal in sight.

We just … slowed down.

So lately, with all the activity going on between HSN, and new digital releases, and Project Life inspiration, and contests, giveaways, and sales … I feel like my blog was in desperate need of a post that had nothing to do with products. Today I’m just sharing PICTURES. No details about the specifics of our trip, no personal family memories, not even page examples of these photos slipped into Project Life Photo Pocket Pages.

Nope. Just pictures. All taken with my iPhone 5S. I didn’t bring my dSLR. Shoot, I didn’t even bring an ounce of makeup on this trip. Or any type of hair-styling product. For real. So … you know. I was looking pretty awesome all week. Ask me if I even cared about any of that.

Our Spring Break was all about quality time together. Away. Heavenly, really. And in case you’re wondering, YES – we definitely recommend the Rockin’ R Ranch if going to a dude ranch is of interest to you. We’ll for sure go back. Our kids prefer this over a Disney trip. (Gasp.) True story. And so do we.

it takes a village

Monday, March 25th, 2013

That’s it.

It’s over.

Project Life had its tv debut today. And I just got word – almost everything Project Life has sold out. In less than 24 hours. The only items left at the time of me posting this (24 hours after it all kicked off) are the Project Life 18-pack Journaling Pen sets (my personal favorite must-have) and the last few hundred of the “Today’s Special” – the Project Life KIT (Jade Edition and Blush Edition). When those kits officially sell out that means that 25,000 more Project Life kits are being distributed to homes across the nation. I am floored. Honestly.

I know you guys know this, but truly – it takes a village to make something like this possible. I am honored to be associated with dedicated, hard-working people who know how to make things happen.

I’m so grateful to HSN for believing in Project Life and seeing how valuable this system can be for their audience. I think they were a little surprised to see so many kits sell before Lisa even went on air. You guys weren’t wasting any time, were you!? (Awesome.)

The team at American Crafts is responsible for getting the product MADE – quickly, efficiently, and delivered to HSN in time. And when you receive the product and love the quality, you can thank them for that too.

Project Life isn’t Project Life without awesome design work. The AC in-house design team knocked out the Blush Edition and one of our all-time favorite Project Life designers, Lili Niclass, knocked out the Jade Edition – in record time! To this day, one of my very favorite parts of my job is working closely with the designers to make these products perfect for you.

My own little team has been a huge support in helping prepare for this occasion, as well as on this actual day. A special thank-you to Brandi (“Becky Higgins Customer Service” on facebook) who stays on top of answering so many of the questions that fly around.

Our awesome Creative Team pulled together a collection of really fantastic page samples to show off how simple + easy Project Life is for memory-keeping! Love you girls!

Crew was hanging out with us today, BURSTING with energy and David went into super-hero action and took him out today for a chunk of time so I could keep you guys updated via social media and watch HSN closely. It was kind of an intense day. Most supportive husband ever. I was lucky he had the day off.

Good grief, I’m sounding like this is some sort of award-winning speech. Sorry! I just feel really grateful. But – Lisa Bearnson. Can we just give her a standing ovation right now? Didn’t she ROCK it today? Welcome back to tv, Lisa! You are so loved and you have been so missed … and you did SUCH a great job selling Project Life today! THANK YOU friend, for all that you are – and for all that you mean to a lot of people. And thank you for hand-picking Project Life as the Today’s Special that you wanted to feature in your HSN debut.

LB sitting 8x12 copy

Okay – since I’m in speech mode, let me just wrap this up now by reminding you … that YOU are exactly what keeps me going. We love our customers. We are so grateful to you, not only for tuning in and shopping today (because that’s just FUN) – but also for telling your friends to tune in!

And more importantly … for so many of you that have been “with” me long enough, you already know what your loyalty means to me. I feel your support. I feel your enthusiasm. I really do, and I’m not exactly sure how to articulate what it means to me. This isn’t about selling product. I feel like so many of you really get why I do this, and that means a lot to me. I want to support you as you strive to cultivate a good life and record it – and I hope that you continue to enjoy Project Life as the tool, the system, the concept – that helps bring that all together in your life.

Big, giant, squeezy group hug.

3 “mini” sets available today only on HSN

Monday, March 25th, 2013

So many of you watching & shopping today. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the warmth + support + enthusiasm that continues.

I wanted to share real quick about this whole AutoShip option on HSN today. About half of you who are ordering the Today’s Special are opting for the AutoShip. Smart. You’ll LOVE it.

If you’re not really sure what it is … here’s the scoop.

Whether you purchase the Jade Edition or the Blush Edition, you have the option of adding the AutoShip to your order. You’ll see this online HERE or you can ask the HSN customer service rep that you speak with on the phone. Basically, what you’re signing up for is this: A Mini Album + Mini Kit combo will be automatically shipped to you 3 times throughout the rest of this year. HSN charges your credit card when they ship each one and it’s $24.95 per set. AWESOME deal. You can read all about the AutoShip details HERE.

This option is exclusive to HSN with the purchase of the Today’s Special – and exclusive to today. In other words, if you think you like it – don’t miss this chance. We’re not even half-way through this day at the time of me posting this and we’ve already sold 13,000+ Today’s Special kits.

If you’re feeling bummed that you might miss out on these 3 awesome sets because you’re not in the U.S. (HSN is a U.S. shipping only shopping channel) … here’s the good news: This Summer (Winter for those in the southern hemisphere) we will be launching 3 Mini Kits by these same beloved designers! So if you love Dear Lizzy, Amy Tangerine, and Maggie Holmes brands … you’re still in luck.

Keep in mind that the 3 Mini Kits we’re releasing by these designers will be different than the 3 that are available via HSN AutoShip. And as always, HSN is offering these at a fantastic price, so seriously – don’t miss out. You will be so happy to have these darling sets – for yourself, a child, or even as a gift for a friend.

Now – here’s a look at what’s included in the AutoShip program.

In JUNE, you’ll receive the Dear Lizzy Mini Kit + Blush Mini Album combo:

PL_Mini_Kit_DL_EC

In SEPTEMBER, you’ll receive the Amy Tangerine Mini Kit + Chocolate Mini Album combo:

PL_Mini_Kit_AT_EC

In DECEMBER, you’ll receive the Maggie Holmes Mini Kit + Rain Mini Album combo:

PL_Mini_Kit__MH_EC

Each “set” includes the Mini Album, which has all the divided pages already sewn into the album for ultra convenience, and it holds 80 4×6 photos + 80 3×4 Journaling Cards. You also get the Mini Kit, which has 100 cards – 20 that are 4×6 and 80 that are 3×4. It’s all very smart, very versatile, very organized, very very fun designs! Hard to resist – I know.

One last note: If you have already placed an order with HSN and now you wish you knew more about this AutoShip option, just contact HSN Customer Service and ask if you can add the AutoShip option to your order. Fingers crossed! Go to HSN.com, “My Account”, or call 1.800.284.3900 from 8am to 1am EST.

welcome to Project Life

HSN LOGO

hello + thank you

There are many of you visiting my site and my blog today that are brand-new to me, my brand, and Project Life. And I want to extend a very warm welcome to you! You likely just learned about Project Life from watching HSN. I’ll come back to that in a minute.

I wanted to take a moment to extend a very heartfelt note of GRATITUDE to so, so, so many of you who have been long-time fans/customers/readers. Thank you so much for your love & support. Thank you so much for being so enthusiastic about this monumental occasion of Project Life making its TV debut. You have cheered us on and we have felt your kindness through all the notes (via social media, mostly) and want you to know that I am truly humbled by your loyalty. THANK YOU. I know Lisa feels that love & support as well as she makes her debut on HSN.

down to business

How to watch? To watch the Home Shopping Network, search for HSN on your tv. To watch it live via the internet, go to HSN.com.

When is Lisa on? Lisa Bearnson will be on air at all these different times throughout the day – today, Monday March 25th – EASTERN Standard Time: 12 midnight, 1am, 8am, 12 noon, 2pm, 5pm, 6pm, 9pm, 10pm. Project Life will be presented in all of her “Papercrafting with Lisa Bearnson” presentations, but those times in RED are dedicated “Today’s Special” presentations alllll about Project Life.

When is it best to tune in? Whenever it’s convenient for you. That’s why she’s on so many times throughout the day. It’s LIVE, so nothing is “re-played” but she’ll be sharing & selling the same stuff all day long. If you don’t want to miss out on something, I definitely recommend tuning in sooner rather than later. HSN ordered a lot of Project Life product, but no one has the crystal ball to know when anything will sell out. When they’re gone, they’re gone. Similar items are coming to stores in May, but not packaged or “kitted” the way it is for HSN.

Added note: In just the first 1.5 hours, we have sold over 7,000 kits. Act fast, guys.

Prices. The discounted prices on ALL of the Project Life items that are on HSN today are insane. I’m just saying – if you think you’ll find prices like this when these items show up in May (to stores and online) … you just won’t. This is the time to take advantage of serious bargains.

Links. In addition to the “Today’s Special” (Project Life KIT), there are several other Project Life products that Lisa is selling for AWESOME prices right now on HSN. Click on any of the following links below (under the product pictures) and it will link directly to those items on HSN.com for your convenience. Or click here to see them all in one place. Yes, they’re available and selling right now.

brand new to project life?

In light of the fact that many of you are brand-new here, I want to make sure you feel like you understand the product. Project Life is incredibly simple but it doesn’t hurt to do a little “orientating” when you’re brand-new to a concept or system. Be sure you check out our What is Project Life? page that includes a helpful description, short video, and even a step-by-step slideshow of getting your album set up.

When you visit our Inspiration page, you’ll see several different Project Life sample albums (yes, there is more than just the Jade & Blush Editions that are shown on HSN today). They’re all put together in the simplest form; no embellishing or cutting or adhesives or extra anything. Check out my post – Advice for Project Life NEWBIES.

If you’re feeling inclined to get creative with Project Life (or maybe you’re a crafter or scrapbooker that already has a ton of supplies that you want to put to use!), we have a full Creative Team that regularly shares Project Life inspiration. Once a month I have a big blog post with a sampling of their stuff, and this is the most recent Creative Team post.

I use social media to inspire. Follow me on facebook or twitter or instagram for ideas on memory-keeping, everyday photography, organization, lifestyle, and general thoughts on cultivating a good life and recording it. Throughout today I will be sharing lots of samples using the Project Life products sold on HSN today.

If you’re more of a digital crafter, you can find the digital version of our Project Life products on ACDigitals.com. Every Monday right now we are releasing a new edition and that new edition is always 20% off the first week it’s available. We won’t see Jade or Blush until May, but there are plenty of other editions that you just may love. In fact, today we are releasing the wildly popular Midnight Edition. The physical product of the Midnight and other editions – is coming to stores in May.

why project life? 10 reasons.

In case you’re not able to actually watch Lisa present this on HSN today, here are some bullet points (in no particular order) that I would personally share with you about Project Life. WHY has this system become such a phenomenon in the scrapbooking industry? WHY are thousands upon thousands of people who “gave up” on scrapbooking now finding joy in this hobby of memory-keeping again? WHY are friends telling friends about Project Life?

1. Just add your photos & journaling – that’s all! The organization and design of Project Life means that SO MUCH is already figured out for you. Different from traditional scrapbooking, there is no stress about where to place photos, which papers to use, techniques to incorporate, products to coordinate.

2.  No more guilt. It’s so common for so many of us to feel “behind” or feel like we’re failing in the department of memory-keeping or creating albums for our family or for ourselves. Stomp on that guilt! Let go of the pressure! Attack this with the EASIEST approach to scrapbooking ever!

3. This is the more affordable way to scrapbook! This hobby can get very expensive, very fast. With Project Life, you can stick with the basics (album, photo pocket pages, core kit) – and that’s all you really need! No additional purchases necessary. Everything you need comes in the “Today’s Special” on HSN today.

4. Doing Project Life can be therapeutic. Because you don’t have any “creative pressures”, and you’re literally just slipping photos and memories in pockets, this allows you to be more reflective on the memories you’re preserving – which leads to increased gratitude for your life (even during difficult times) – which leads to greater happiness. Really.

5. ANYone can do this. No skills required. So many people doing Project Life are people who have said “scrapbooking’s not for me” or “I don’t have time for that” or “I don’t have a creative bone in my body.” Kids are doing this. Teens, grandmas, first-timers of every age … even just having your kids write on some of the little cards is a great idea! Many Project Lifers are those who used to be scrapbookers and they just got overwhelmed. They found themselves collecting product but not doing anything with it. Now they’re fully involved in memory-keeping again because it’s do-able. And fun!

6. Project Life doesn’t take up so much SPACE. You don’t have to fill a room or closet full of supplies. That’s why it’s so revolutionary in the scrapbooking world. Everything you need comes in this kit! You don’t even need adhesive or scissors!

7. It’s still a scrapbook. Even though skills and experience are not required … the end result of slipping your photos and memories into pockets results in an incredibly beautiful, incredibly cool scrapbook. You will be so proud to say, “I made this!” So many people think that scrapbooking has to mean “creative layouts” and “many, many hours”. Nope. Doesn’t have to be any of that.

8. Everything that comes in the kit coordinates so well. No guess work. No shopping for other embellishments.

9. Project Life is super flexible. If you want to go back and catch up on 5 or 10 years in one album, you can do that. If you want to be super ambitious and start recording life with a day-to-day or week-to-week basis (some call this approach “Project 365″), you can do that. In fact, there are enough pages and enough cards to fill an entire album with 365 days – or 52 weeks. When using the kit, find a “system” that works for you. Some people dedicate a little time once a week – or once a month – to add to their Project Life album. Some people actually put together an entire album in one sitting over a weekend. It’s THAT easy.

10. The cards are versatile. “Side A” of every 3×4 card is designed for journaling. There are lines or grid lines to guide you in keeping your handwriting straight. “Side B” of every 3×4 card is a filler design so that when you don’t have much to say, you can simply flip the card over instead of writing something. Also – the Title Cards have both horizontal and vertical variations. Every card is double-sided for SUPER functionality. And by the way, there are soooo many cards that come in the Core Kit. In fact, you’ll fill an entire album and still have leftovers! Great for putting notes in your kids’ lunches, or adding a cute tag to a gift.

…..

The blog today is loaded – I know. I don’t want to overwhelm you, but I want you to feel informed – and inspired. Please come back. HSN is a super big deal today … but there are always fun things happening around here. In fact, I’ll just put a little bug in your ear right now and let you know that we are having a very, very, very special thing happening next week. Totally worth staying tuned in, especially if you love a good sale.  ; )

organizing plastics

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

If you’re gathering quite the collection of “plastics” (Page Protectors, Photo Pocket Pages), you’re probably ready to get them in some sort of order. That’s me for sure. I was starting to feel like if my plastics were better organized and therefore more accessible, it’s just a more convenient and smarter system. Right? So this is what I did … and perhaps what some of you have done as well.

038916

The Classic Faux Leather Album, as seen in our CHA-Winter catalog (found on the sidebar of our Products page), will be available in May. The Scrapbook Dividers are currently available on Amazon, and also coming to stores in May. The package of 15 dividers comes with the label stickers. You can see that I organized the plastics by having each size/design in its own labeled section.

038917

038918

038919

038920

038921

That’s it. Easy-peasy. Simple. Organized. I took these pictures half-way through my organizing, so you’re just seeing the different sizes of Page Protectors. I will fill a second album with all the Photo Pocket Pages and the labels will be labeled with A, B, C …

PS – The Project Life Slick Writer pen? That shows up in May too.  : )

Anyone else have an organizational tip for storing plastics before they’re filled and placed in a scrapbook?

new digital releases happening now

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

600x200emailBack in December we introduced you to AC Digitals – the new home of our Digital Project Life Products as well as the one place online you can find digital collections from the American Crafts brands. We are thrilled to let you know that we have already started to release our brand new Project Life editions in digital format! You can look forward to seeing a new edition added to the AC Digitals shop every Monday leading up to the time we see physical products arriving in May. Just yesterday we released the Kraft Edition and you can get it for 20% off through Sunday, March 24th.

In fact, all new releases at AC Digitals are 20% off the first week they are in the shop. What does that mean for you? It means you can save 20% for an entire week when you see a new Project Life edition or other product released. We all love a bargain, right?

There are several ways to make sure you don’t miss a single product release. First, you can sign up for the AC Digitals Newsletter that goes out every Monday with information and links to all of the new products. We also post product previews on the AC Digitals Facebook Page and Instagram account. Occasionally we offer giveaways or special promotions on our digital products through those accounts, as well, so it’s definitely worth following along.

I know many of you have already snatched up the Holidays Mini Kit from last week and/or the Kraft Edition from this week. So fun! Remember: Even if you’re not a digi gal, you’ll love checking out the previews on ACDigitals.com because that will show you details of what is coming in the physical kits (again – those are going to be available in May).

Feeling behind?

We received this email, and with Stephanie’s permission, I’m sharing it with you today.

…..

Dear Becky,

I’ve actually been meaning to write for sometime. I have been in love with your products after my bestie introduced them to me starting with the release of the Amber Edition. (Yes, I mark years by Project Life Edition). I bought the kit and went to work. Editing photos, adding cards, etc. I was thrilled about this new way to scrapbook. But first let me rewind and give you a little history.

As a former scrapper before scrapping was cool I loved making books in the early to late nineties. Then mission, career, marriage, and kids and in a blink of an eye I have 10 years of nothing documented except via negatives and portable hard drives. (Believe it or not, snuggling up with your kids to cozy up with the laptop and view old pics isn’t ideal in my mind). Fast forward to now…

Time for honesty. Life is insanely crazy. We added a baby to the mix almost one year ago and he has some unique health challenges that keep us hopping and living around his med schedule. I work full-time and when you add eating and sleeping, there isn’t really anything left. My confession is that my good intentions have gotten me: 1 Amber edition half done but no journaling, 1 clementine edition with first and last pages put in but nothing else, 1 baby boy edition with first and last pages, 1 baby girl edition with first and last pages, 1 olive edition still in the Amazon box that it was delivered in last week, a secret desire to order a mini kit and album for my 7 year old, a half-taken Project Real Life class, and a whole lot of feeling behind, a little guilty, and not knowing where and how to start digging myself out without missing the sweet albeit sparing moments with my family as it is.

I know you have a balancing act with career and family, and we’re about the same age… How do you do it? It sounds silly because project life makes things so simple but I’ve almost wished that there was an answer for people like me that just want to be told exactly where to put what and simply don’t have time to think or be creative in the least bit at this stage in the game. I love the first and last page cards for that reason. I only wish the whole album was like that. Nothing to think about unless you wanted to. A quicker than quick solution to slap things in without much thought. Scribble down a note or two and move on. I know, you’re thinking, we’ve made it so simple already… But just letting you know that I am out here waiving the white flag (while meanwhile logging on to Amazon and buying the latest insanely cute edition). Love your products, love the concept, and love the passion you have for what you do.

All the best,

Stephanie in Texas

I wanted to share with you Brandi’s response to Stephanie because it’s a message to so many people who feel similar to how Stephanie feels:

…..

Hi Stephanie,

I wanted to let you know we received your email. Your story is so similar to so many of our customers, which is, as you know, why Becky created Project Life. Life is busy. Our priorities cannot be scrapbooking when our time should and is spent doing do many other things. We get that. Cut yourself some slack. Of course, we also get that you want to complete an album. As you said, there is something about snuggling up and looking through a finished album versus scrolling through the computer screen. I have a few suggestions for you, that I hope will help you feel motivated to get started (again) and will relieve some of the overwhelming feelings you may have when you look at how far behind you feel you are.

It seems silly to say, and it might be hard to do, but only think about 1 album at a time. As a long time Project Lifer, I have learned that if I think about the catching up I need to do, I feel defeated before I have even started. Realistically speaking, your family has survived this long without a finished album – they will continue to be okay, so don’t stress about the past photos, yet. Focus on your most current year – 2013. We are only 3 months in. This should take no time at all to get caught up (a few hours in front of the TV while doing your album will do the trick).

Once you are caught up, find a time system that works best for you. This might be adding your photos every day, week, month or (as I do) one time at the end of the calendar year. Yep, I take 1 day in December, when my husband takes the kids for the day, and bust my entire year out, because that is what works for me. Do what works for you. Once you have figured that out, begin to work backwards, one album at a time. So, while you are staying current on 2013, you will add 2012 to your plate also. Once you have completed 2012, you will start 2011, and so on until you are “caught up”. Keep in mind your past years can be a lower priority. So no need to stress over it, but know that if you are caught up on 2013 and are hanging out one night, you can always pull 2012 out and bust out a few pages/months. Eventually, you will be caught up. I am 100% current with my memory keeping, using this process, and it feels great!

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions on how to get started and I would be happy to help walk you through the process.

Brandi

…..

Me again:

I whole-heartedly understand where Stephanie is coming from, and I whole-heartedly agree with Brandi’s response. You have to find an approach that works for you. As always, I encourage simplicity. Your family cares far more about being able to actually enjoy memories and pictures than how you think you “should” creatively display them. Let go of creative pressures. Seriously. Be creative if you have the burning desire or the innate love to do so, but please don’t embellish your scrapbook pages with a bunch of product because you think that’s what scrapbooking is “supposed” to be. Project Life is simple for a reason. It’s helping us get our scrapbooks done.

In light of what’s happening one week from today (Project Life makes its debut on HSN), I encourage you to tune in (or visit HSN.com that day, since you can also purchase online) and consider taking advantage of one of the two Project Life KITS we are offering that day. I know 99% of you have the desire to “catch up”. Me too. I get it. I want to be sure you know that what we are selling on HSN on March 25th is such an amazing deal that you will not want to miss out on this opportunity to use one of these kits (Blush or Jade – or both) to “catch up” and stomp all over those feelings of guilt.
